Hands down one of the best brunches I've had in Austin! Mattie's is located on a beautiful property with indoor seating in a historic home as well as outdoor seating in their beautiful gardens. Imagine dining in a garden oasis surrounded by stunning oak trees and peacocks! It was awesome. The food was for the most part fantastic as well. We ordered: - Fried chicken eggs benedict - unique southern twist on a brunch classic. It was absolutely delicious, and I appreciated that the chicken had a nice kick to it! - Pork chilaquiles - my girlfriend loved this. - Coconut chia pudding - so good and served with fresh fruits which elevated the flavor further! - kolache - this was the only average item. Not super flavorful. Our server was friendly, attentive and efficient. Valet service was $10 and well worth it! Matties also offers a wedding venue and an inn onsite, both of which look absolutely dreamy. Highly recommend, wonderful experience overall!
Mattie's has always been on my radar ever since moving to Austin 6 years ago, but until now, I have never had the chance to check it out. My fiancé and I made a last-minute, day-of dinner reservation for 9pm (we like to eat late, so the timing was not an issue for us). We were a little confused at first when we arrived, given that it is in a residential neighborhood, but we found free street parking just in front of the property. There is also $10 valet parking available on-site. Mattie's is located on a beautiful, stunning property with tons of trees and garden spaces, as well as a few other businesses (ex. I think there is an inn there, too). The restaurant itself looks like it used to be a gorgeous, huge house that they converted. When you walk in, the host stand is at the base of a big staircase. We checked in and were immediately seated. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, and we quickly ordered the biscuits as a starter, a beet salad, and the duck and risotto for entrees, as well as a bottle of wine. Our server let us know that the entrees are really big portions and we would likely have enough to take home (which ended up being true). The biscuits were so delicious. $8 for 2 biscuits, which were a good size, drizzled with honey and a side of butter. The beet salad was also tasty, with iced goat cheese, nuts, and some other ingredients. The duck and risotto were huge portions. Mattie's is definitely expensive, but you seriously get what you pay for, which is not something that can always be said for an expensive restaurant in terms of portion sizes. I truly have never seen such large portions at an expensive restaurant, but I am not complaining! Definitely a great spot for date night or a special occasion!
Everything we wanted and a little bit more.had made reservations a while ago in anticipation of my husband's 50th birthday had completely spaced on the fact that it was SXSW weekend you would never have known from the calm, cool, collected staff, provided absolutely stellar service. Our server was amazing. The setting is stunning. The peacocks were out in their full regalia, including Han Solo...ask the team if you're unsure. Perfectly crafted drinks, exquisite food, and a beautiful setting, all in the heart of downtown Austin thank you for your care and what turned out to be the perfect dinner.
How has this review been sitting in my drafts??? A friend suggested we meet up here for a Sunday brunch. It was the most beautiful day! And the most beautiful spot to sit outside and eat delicious food!! The location was in an unexpected, "hidden" location in a neighborhood. The property, inside and out, was gorgeous. The service was fantastic. Super friendly, fast, and helpful. I NEED to go back!!
Always a delight to dine at Mattie's. Took my dad and his girlfriend to brunch. They loved the property, food, and attentive service, We started with pimento cheese spread, and the fried green tomatoes with crab. Very rich treat. My dad tried the breakfast plate and his girlfriend had salad. I enjoyed the farm salad with salmon. The server suggest that I try the preserve lemon dressing, which was perfect. Don't forget to wave to the peacocks.
First let me tell you, I don't pay attention to where we were going to brunch and screamed with excitement pulling in and seeing the beautiful peacocks walking the property!! OMGosh! They are so beautiful and magnificent! The restaurant itself is so nice too. It's beautifully decorated and rebuilt to retain its original charm. Our waitress was very happy and bubbly and seemed to love the food here. I started with a mimosa, which was good but seemed like I was getting someone's left over glass since it was only maybe half full. We got the biscuits and strawberry butter to start. The biscuits were not warm and the honey drizzle was everywhere. The knife and the edges of the plate they brought with it was covered in it so we were covered in it. The burrata and peaches salad was ok. The peaches were not great, some had an overly fake smoke taste while some had zero taste altogether. I had the bread pudding French toast with strawberry rhubarb compote and it was very good but very sweet. I would tell any sweet loving person to get that. My husband got the bowl and he enjoyed the cucumber salad in it. All in all the ambience was a 5 star but the food and drink 3.
Let me start by saying that the chef who made the coffee french toast has this down 100% and it was probably the best french toast Ive ever had. Now as for service, hence the 1 star and if I could give zero I would. The lady who had the ipad in her hand (i approached her to ask if theres a ramp) she pointed and said its over there - waaaay around the corner of the house. For FOH, please get some etiquette training! We had reservations and it still took a good 30 min or so to get seated. So I went to the bar to get some cocktails for brunch. The girl tender sucked - I spoke to her and her response was rude. The dude tender was awesome and very nice and accomodating. We agreed that our server was having an off day bc she wasnt having it. I also noticed I was the only non-white person in the entire 2 rooms. Hoidy toidy and was I sitting in a plantation? Seriously guys get w the program. The only thing we liked were the peacocks and the INN looks modern and nice with an event canopy area in the back of the house. Its a shame this place felt off and unwelcoming and the parking is riddick as it is only valet.
This is a truly unique dining experience in Austin! You pull into the driveway and are immediately greeted by many peacocks - there was even a baby peacock while we were there. The trees are beautiful as well with a setting that makes you feel as if you are far outside of the city. The restaurant itself is inside of a historic home which gives it a super cozy atmosphere. We ordered the biscuits, shrimp & grits, grilled chicken, and risotto. Everything was delicious, but our favorites were the biscuits and chicken. The chicken came with an amazing burrata salad on the side that really stood out.
Amazing interior and great for gatherings. The restaurant has many rooms inside a large property which feels cozy like a home. Service was great, couldn't have been better. We got couple apps, biscuits and fried green tomatoes. Had a larger party so got to try a bit of everything. Duck was my favorite and they cooked both steaks to perfection. Every entree was nicely done I will say I was impressed with their sides/veggies and big portions. Their desserts were well done too. I wasn't a huge fan of both appetizers, biscuits were a bit dry imo.
Overall tonight Mattie's was a miss. This was my third time at the restaurant and the other occasions have been much better. The ambiance is 5/5, great restaurant with plenty of parking and wait staff is very nice. If you arrive early there is a bar you can get a drink even order food. We got a few appetizers tonight which were all good: Peaches and burrata Pimiento cheese Carrots Most of the table got the steak frites. This dish for the entire table was completely oversalted. The French fries were inedible for everyone there was so much salt. Literally. The steak also had too much salt. Serving a $40+ meal that was salted too heavily for an upscale restaurant needs to be fixed. I would be surprised if this was an isolated incident.
What a fantastic find! Even though it was raining it was such a cool building to have brunch in! I thought the food was really good, although some others didn't love their food...I can't wait to come back and try other things. Def a spot to bring friends/family when they are visiting. It's one of those places where you're just like...."i love austin".. only thing to really ding them for is the auto grat..kinda lame but won't affect me.
Mattie's is a beautiful vintage space with lots of outdoor seating and a beautiful peacock who roams the space. Their julep, shrimp and grits and biscuits and gravy were great. We enjoyed our time there and the service provided.
This place has southern charm! Loved the vibe, service, and food. The parfait was so good and so was everything else I tried. Bring a good appetite. Also they have peacocks roaming around outside which is so cool and adds to the charm

When you arrive you are greeted by some beautiful peacocks roaming the property. The restaurant is in a large house / mini mansion and seating is available inside and out. The service staff are very friendly and you really get the Southern hospitality at this place. It was a nice experience and the best restaurant I've been to Austin thus far. It is one of those places that I felt like I could not get this experience in New York. The food was great too. Loved the biscuits and the Pan Seared fish was nice. Would highly recommend the 1965 Milk Punch for Dessert. read more

This place has it all! If you love true southern comfort food, then it's a must. We started with their infamous biscuits that were to die for! We also had the carrots, pork ribs, fried chicken, cauliflower side and for dessert, Texas pecan pie. Every bite was so scrumptious, it was like you were eating in your southern grandmother's kitchen. The restaurant itself was like being in a movie. A beautiful, white house with a wrap porch. It was just so charming. And the service was equally as outstanding! Honestly, I have zero complaints. Highly recommend! read more
Was super excited to be introduced to this place for brunch with my girl friends and so glad I went! Phenomenal food, fantastic location/vibes (check out the beautiful peacocks roaming around), great service, and good times. Perfect for a weekend brunch, cute date, or family gathering. Food: - Milk Punch French Toast, $19 (5/5): SO delicious, probably one of the best French toast dishes I have ever had! The bread was perfectly cooked, the flavors were amazing, the fruit and lemon zest and cream were a perfect blend. Will come back just for this! - Fried Chicken and Eggs Benedict (w/side salad), $21 (4/5): An enormous serving of crispy seasoned fried chicken on top of their house made buttermilk biscuits with 2 poached eggs and traditional hollandaise sauce. Really filling and even slightly overwhelming, so the side salad is a nice break. - Banana Bread Coffee Cake, $8 (5/5): exactly as expected, super moist and flavorful, perfectly baked, and served with fresh butter. - Basmati Rice Bowl, $18 (3/5): generous portion of rice with roasted veggies in coconut curry, a bit bland in flavor but decent. Overall, 5/5 rating! Can't wait to come back for a nice dinner date and more brunch! One of the best brunches I have had in Austin. read more

The atmosphere here is great. You really feel like you have stepped out of Austin and into another city. The food was great and the drinks were too. Service took a little bit longer than normal but they are pretty booked up normally, so make sure to get a reservation in. read more

One of the cutest places in Austin! The grounds are gorgeous and the house is a whole vibe. They have peacocks on the grounds too! Food is delicious w/ homemade southern menu. Went for a friends birthday brunch and will definitely come back. Our server wasn't the best, but the rest of the staff was friendly and accommodating. read more

I came here for brunch after seeing it was rated #1. And I absolutely can see why. This was the first time I experienced true Southern hospitality in Texas. From the host, waiter to the manager everyone was very friendly, and knowledgeable! The inside was very clean and was a huge house! I loved viewing the peacocks walking around outside! We sat inside but definitely will sit outside next time to get a better view of the peacocks. The fried green tomatoes had to be my absolute favorite. The shrimp for the shrimp an grits needed a bit more flavor, and the grits were a bit more sweet and prefer more savory. The potatoes, bacon and eggs were also really good. I want to try the quinoa bowl next time. read more
Mattie's exceeded my expectations! I had heard of the beautiful grounds with live oak and roaming peacocks but the food was equally impressive. The milk punch was delightful and an adorable serving in tiny cups. Although it was brunch time, the sour cream and onion dip sounded too good to pass up as a savory and shareable bite. The fried chicken eggs benedict was a literal and visual feast with smothered biscuits, hefty fried chicken and perfect eggs. I made a reservation way in advance to dine at Mattie's and would not return without one based on the amount of people waiting in the heat. read more
Matties is now one of my top brunch spots. I had friends in town and I took them here for my birthday celebration. The seating tables are also spaced out inside so everyone's not sitting on top of each-other. The Food- I order the Basmati Rice bowl which seemed like an hit or miss choice since it is such a random dish on their menu, it was so delicious. I LOVED it! It was Spicy, packed with veggies, fresh tomatoes and served over a creamy coconut curry sauce ( the photo does not do it justice)! We also ordered the 1965 Milk Punch Carafe for the table. It was a great choice (be careful you can get tipsy quickly with these small but mighty glasses) The service-attentive, friendly, inviting and all around professional!! Our serve brought out banana beignets for my birthday with a candle which was given complimentary and she even gave my party half off the Milk Punch Carafe. There is free parking available onsite, I've also never had a problem finding street parking in the area either! I would recommend making a reservation if you would like to sit outside because weekends and Sunday brunch always seems to be busy! Make reservations! Walk in took us 2.5 hours to get seated(( even though we came at 10:45 for Sunday brunch (they open at 11).. we left the place after 3pm! The grounds are beautiful!! Love the peacocks! Beautiful patio, we dined in May, so the weather was perfect! The food is pretty good. I would recommend dining there, mainly because it's such a pretty place with old oak trees and peacocks. read more

The FRIED GREEN TOMATOES!! The same beautiful grounds of Green Pastures with a new, modern feel! The fried chicken was so much better than I expected it to be, the biscuits were heavy, but delicious and shareable. The Hummingbird Cake was so good that I had to order more to take home, and my table could not stop ordering the 1965 sweet cream drink! You absolutely cannot go wrong at this restaurant from. Definitely visit if you are from out of town! This is a historic home turned restaurant tucked away in the middle of SoCo Austin! read more

An absolutely great hidden gem. I went there for brunch on Sunday around 10:50. They opened at 11 and we were immediately seated. If you come with a large party over 4, definitely make a reservation. The service was impeccable and the food was good too. We started with biscuits and fried green tomatoes. Both were amazing. I would liked to have more. It was 2 biscuits and 3 to 4 tomato slices cut in half. Both entrées were good. We had shrimp and grits as well as bacon eggs and potatoes. We thought we missed the famous peacocks but saw them on the way back to the car. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 was the portion sizes. I'll definitely be back. read more
We went to Mattie's for my birthday and I'm so glad we did! The grilled chicken is very similar to the french coq au vin and if you're a fan of wine sauces this is your plate. The pork chop had a blueberry bbq sauce that's unlike anything I've ever had, it's def a must try! We also had the honey butter biscuits as appetizers and were amazing. 10/10 would recommend. Also, the peacocks hanging out throughout the restaurant? Absolutely cool!!! read more
A historic South Austin farmhouse with peacocks prancing around the front driveway...This is definitely a destination restaurant! My NYC-now Austin residing friends wanted to show me the stylish side of Texas so they booked a dinner reservation at Mattie's. At first I was going to ask them to choose another restaurant. I had studied the menu online in advance and thought to myself "oh no American Southern Comfort Food? That is dangerous diet territory for me!" My naturopath back home has me journaling EVERYTHING I put in my mouth - No carbs, no beans, grains or legumes! Sugar also a no-no! Temptation would be so great...put a buttermilk biscuit in front of me and there's no way for me to avoid taking a bite! But I decided, hey I'm only in Austin for another day, I could cheat a little. When we drove up, peacocks were everywhere, some males courting the females while restaurant guests seated on the side outdoor porch tables watched. It was magical. We were half hour early so the staff allowed us to go inside and take a self-guided tour of the different dining rooms, bars and alcoves inside and upstairs of the farmhouse. Every room was gorgeously decorated. There was a private party in one of the larger dining rooms upstairs. We were seated in a cozy banquette corner in a dining room downstairs. We ordered Wood Grilled Rainbow Carrots with, cardamom yogurt, pistachio, peppers, sumac vinaigrette; Wild Mushroom and Burrata with confit garlic, truffle oil and 10yr. aged balsamic; Beet and Citrus Arugula Salad with fennel, iced goat cheese, candied hazelnuts, preserved lemon vinaigrette; Crispy Cauliflower with Thai bird chile, tamarind BBQ sauce, scallions, cilantro; Fried Brussels Sprouts with mint and "coconut bacon". I did eat 1 tiny bite of Buttermilk Biscuits with butter and local honey. The food was delicious, but the place and ambiance (inside and outside) steals all the spotlight. read more

The ambiance of this beautiful historic home was impressive. Our server Amy went the extra mile in taking care of our table. Amy's wine and food recommendation was on point. Oh my gosh this place is AMAZING everything about it. The food is so fresh and everything on the menu and so good. I got to try the Brussel sprouts, the cauliflower, the pork chop dinner, the pimento cheese appetizer, the burger, the French fries and the drinks. All so good. They have a great wine selection and staff that knows a lot as well. The venue inside and outside is STUNNING. Literally such a hidden gem. Definitely recommend. Can't wait to come back and try their fried green tomatoes and their brunch! read more

Truly one of my favorite places in austin. We ordered so much food and not one item disappointed. You can't beat the venue itself, if it is nice weather it is so great to sit outside and they have great music playing you feel so relaxed in the trees. They even have peacocks roaming! We were really lucky to have Rubilee as our waitress. She told us the backstory and history and was very helpful! We loved her and will be back soon read more

We love Mattie's! Everything from start to finish was wonderful. It is such a magical setting and we always try to sit on the porch where we enjoy the vast property with its massive trees, peacocks and chill vibe. The food was amazing including the carrot salad, biscuits, salmon and pork chop. Our service was stellar and they treated us to champagne as we celebrated our anniversary. This is a spot if you're looking to make a special occasion extra special though you could dine here any time and appreciate all of the things that make Mattie's the magnificent restaurant that it is. read more
Came here for Saturday brunch with a group of friends. My friend got a reservation for 11 am in advance. It was pretty quiet when we arrived as they were just opening and there was plenty of parking. Driving in we were a little confused as it feels like a residential property but you'll the parking lot soon after driving in. When we left at around 1:00 pm the place was starting to feel very crowded, so I def recommend an earlier time frame. The grounds are beautiful and so is the decor inside. Our server was prompt and friendly. We had a special of the day - brisket hash, butter biscuits to start and the chorizo gravy and biscuits. I enjoyed all three but wish we had ordered the fried chicken as that looked to be the best plate on the table. The milk bunch is served in little glass cups which was very cute. read more
TLDR; Get the Biscuits!!!! Decided last minute to take a trip down to Austin for the long weekend, so hopped on Yelp to find the best brunch and dinner spots. Came across Mattie's, and was immediately sold on it by the reviews of the biscuits! I love biscuits! Pulled up Resy and was able to grab a reservation for Sunday! On Resy, it stated that they would be doing a buffet instead of their usual brunch menu. This wasn't an issue because I liked the option of being able to try a few different things since I'm not from the area and no telling when I would be back. About two days before arrival, received an email from Laura confirming that it would be buffet style and if I was ok with this. I thought this was a great and personal touch. In my reply, my only question was would the biscuits be on the menu, again, I love biscuits, lol! Laura said not in the traditional sense, but that she knew and guy *wink wink*! When we arrived, checkin was a breeze and while we waited to be seated my wife went searching for the resident peacocks! It's not often you can see such beautiful creatures up close. After being seated and drink orders taken, our server took the time to walk us over to explain the buffet stations. I think this was great because it help guests navigate where to start first. Overall, the food was delicious. We really liked the salad options - the tomato and watermelon, and the wedge salad. Although served buffet style, both were fresh and crisp. The shrimp and grits, bacon, and pork chilaquiles were also delicious. Some of the items fell victim to the buffet style and were cold. Not a big deal though. Now, back to the biscuits. Remember, Laura said the biscuits would be on the menu, but not in the traditional form, so we asked our server what dish had the biscuit. He shared that it was on the benedict, which I passed over when making my plate. I like benedicts, but wasn't drawn to it on the buffet line. My went back up to get us a couple so we would at least say we had the biscuit. Shortly after, guess who walks over...Laura! She introduces herself and ask us if she wanted us to talk to that guy she knows to see if he could sneak us some biscuits before they become part of the benedict, to which we say, YES, PLEASE! About twenty minutes later, three of the most perfect biscuits with raspberry butter floated over to our table. They were perfectly crispy on the outside and hot and fluffy on the inside! In short, they were out of this world. However, the fact that they actually made us fresh biscuits showed that this is the type of place that values their customers...even first timers visiting from Dallas. Beautiful brunch spot serving delicious farm-fresh Southern fare. Food (5/5 Stars): The brunch menu features tasty starters, salads, and breakfast entrees. The Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict and Biscuits + Chorizo Cream Gravy were so delicious (the warm buttery biscuits were a favorite). Great flavor in all of the dishes - definitely one of the best brunch spots in Austin. Drink (4/5 Stars): Very large selection of wine, curated cocktails, spirits, beer, etc. They offer Mimosa Packages during brunch, as well as $8 Bloody Marys. The Bloody Mary I ordered was delicious - the perfect balance of spice/vodka/tomato juice - served with pickled okra. Service (5/5): SUCH great service! Our server was super friendly and attentive. We had a reservation and were seated right away. I'd highly recommend a reservation if you don't want to wait - although they can be hard to come by on weekends. Atmosphere (5/5 Stars): Beautiful, clean atmosphere! The outdoor seating is shaded by huge oak trees and they have fans/misters to keep everyone cool. There's also a few peacocks roaming around the property? Indoor seating is located in various rooms inside of a lovely Victorian-styled home. All in all the property was gorgeous and perfect for brunch with friends, date night...they even host weddings! read more

My Adventure at Mattie's My beloved and I dolled ourselves up after many months of pandemic garb and hailed a chariot to take us to Mattie's! We arrived, right before sunset, to a beautiful green expanse with some of the curliest trees I'd ever seen. Walking amongst the lush grass and patio tables were two grandiose peacocks making their rounds, ensuring all was well. One covered in rich emerald and midnight blue plumage, and the other white as a newly fallen snow. We took our time admiring the surroundings and taking photographs with our small magical rectangles before making our way inside. The ambiance was lovely, low-lit and magical. As there were not many other patrons upon our arrival, the mistress at the front let us have our pick of where to dine. We promptly took a peek into the two rooms immediately adjacent to us to see which one tickled our fancy. My beloved always so kind allowed me to choose the minty green room with the bar and mustachioed saloon attendant. The furniture was wood and leather and marble and dreamy. To begin our night I ordered the Artemis Cup, a little fruity, a little spicy, a lot of vodka and flowers and delight. To wet our appetites we ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes with crab + shrimp salad and creole remoulade. It was the most fresh and delicious crab I'd ever had! So fresh, I could swear I heard it's crabby claws in the back complaining about it's recent demise. One can not visit a place like this and not order Buttermilk Biscuits. To our surprise they arrived at our table with a gift: a little serving of strawberry butter to lather the biscuits up before taking a bite. Oh my! To finish filling up we ordered and shared Mattie's Fried Chicken. I mean it's the namesake dish so we had to sink our teeth into it! It brought along with it, mashers, bacon and baby kale-shaved brussels sprouts. Greedily we ordered House Frites to fill our bellies. What a gleeful meal this turned out to be! Juicy, perfectly crispy, not greasy, and flavors aplenty! We filled up and enjoyed our company while we finished our drink before heading back out into the night! The night's warm air enchanted us to stay a bit longer, no rush to get back to our home. Empty patio seats inviting us to sit for a moment and enjoy life. After a while we decided to go for a stroll towards the road. Walking arm in arm enamored by our experience, when all of a sudden the terrifying wail of a cat being assassinated! We lept right out of our shoes and looked around to find the source of the danger but could not locate it. From the bushes? From behind the other vehicles located across the way? Another shriek of warning! "GET OUT OF HERE" it cautioned. To our dismay the horrific sound came from straight above our heads! We ran back towards the low lights of the house to safety and decided it would be best to sit again for a bit longer on the patio seats until our heart caught up with us. After pondering a moment we realized the absence of the peacocks! But do they even fly!? How little we knew about these devine monsters. We looked upon our magic rectangles and discovered that they do in fact fly up into the trees after dark to be away from predators. Feeling like we could empathize with the creatures now as we also would do our best to stay away from predators we approached again the path. SQUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! They did not trust us to be so close to the tree in which they sat, and in such darkness we had to force our inferior human sight up into the darkness to see if we could spot them! The outside and inside of this place are so quaint and charming. It's essentially an old mansion turned restaurant, so you're eating in different rooms like a dining room or family room. We got the sour cream and onion dip- 10/10!!!! And the jalepenos kolache was really different and yummy. The shakshuka was so good and hearty, fall vibes. No but recommended. Just expect a wait if you show up without one. I recommend going right when they open.

There is not, but you can put it in the notes as a request and ask when you check in.
How big of a group can I make a reservation for before it has to be an event?
6 is the most you can make a reservation for on their website before reaching out to their events dept. We called and made a reservation for 8 and they didn't charge extra, they were able to book it as a normal reservation for our group.
Do they have outside seating available for brunch or just pick up?
