Visited on a random selection by my partner. We are visiting Austin periodically for her job. I'm from Southeast Texas so, I understood, and was very comfortable with the ambiance. She really liked it as she got to appreciate the concept if the fresh ingredients in the meals. Chris is an uber good host and made her experience much more comfortable with his product knowledge. The food was fantastic. We may have randomly discovered this spot but, it is now a destination when we, and our families are in Austin. Amazingly great. read more

Reservation for one at the bar for Sunday brunch and the two peeps at the bar, Mel and arghhhh forgot the other name so sorry...we're both great. They provided the history as it was my first time in. Love this is a farm to table restaurant and's you could tell by the freshness of the food. Went with the pop tart, more like a a toaster strudel, so flaky and light. Did not finish it as the main beef hash came out at the same time. Y'all this b was one of the best hash's I've had. Beef extra tender and seasoned well, sweet potatoes were delightful, eggs poached perfectly and the sauce was too good to describe. It was savory and sweet in all the right ways. That plate was empty upon finishing. They only have valet parking at $6, and Sunday morning around 10 am zero wait with service super fast. I was out in less than an hour. Keeping this b on the short list of places to go as well as recommend to others. The vibe was laid back with a diverse playlist going. Ample indoor and outdoor seating. Jacoby's has a half-off steak frites special every Thursday, and it's a great option when you're looking for a satisfying meal and a good deal. They also offer half off their chicken fried steak, but I personally prefer the steak frites. The fries on the side are really good, and I believe they come with house-made ketchup, which is so much better than your typical store-bought ketchup. The steak itself is flavorful and always feels like a fun Thursday treat. The only thing to keep in mind is that the portion size can vary a bit from week to week, so some visits may feel more generous than others. I've also noticed the steak quality has gone down after some time. Overall, though, Jacoby's steak frites special is definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a solid weekday dinner deal. read more

I picked this spot initially because I wanted to support the LGBTQ community at a time what hate is bubbling over. I also was being devious, knowing that they would not initially be overwhelmed by the outside appearance, very rustic, seemingly 1920s neon sign.... but inside, wonderful. Our table was ready on arrival, they had even arranged for us to use an alternate entrance right next to our seating to better accommodate one in our party who uses a wheelchair. The server was delightful and attentive. And all five of us loved our apps and entrees. Everything was very fresh, beautifully presented and, well, scrumptious. We especially enjoyed having "family" sides that could be shared. At first glance, the menu seems rather limited. But the chef has created a masterful offering that covers just about anyone's pallet. No one said, "there's nothing here for me." All-in-all, this is a great place for a special dinner! read more

First off I truly enjoyed my entire experience and am looking forward to returning on Thursday for their dinner specials! We walked in and immediately my wife was attracted to the attractive glassware sets they had for sale and I saw some cool tin cups that reminded me of old western movies. Their lot is small and to park in it you need to valet but the pricing was not too bad, reasonable $6. Once we sat down we were greeted by one of the nicest waiters I've had in ages named Pedro, he really put this place on a higher grade for my wife and I. My only mistake was thinking I could handle an order of biscuits and gravy just the two of us, the biscuits were a little dry but the amazing gravy really elevated the dish. Would not recommend ordering those unless you were in a bigger group because the entree portion sizes are pretty big. My eyes locked onto the chorizo migas almost immediately and I did think to myself "how good can these be since this place is obviously not a Mexican spot?", but I wanted to give them a shot and oh man was it worth the gamble! I've had migas a million times and I can confidently say this is top three I've ever had, the chips were perfectly crispy and not soggy at all and this remained the same throughout the meal somehow. Normally after a couple minutes those chips lose their crisp but these did not. The pico had amazing flavor and a good kick and the eggs were so well seasoned 10/10 recommend this dish. They really sold us on the meat sourced from their own ranch and although it was cooked perfectly my wife did say it was a bit chewy and not worth the price tag so she wasn't as happy with her choice as I was. To summarize I was pleased with the lovely atmosphere, excellent service, and amazing migas. I'm usually unimpressed with the Austin food scene. The scenery and the service is honestly just amazing. The Jacoby Beef Hash may have been one of the best breakfast items I have ever had. 9.8/10 Tater tots were very nice with the manchego cheese and potato combo... chefs kiss. Perfectly fried just get extra sauce. 9.1/10 The strawberry cake was delicious. I have no notes, just get it. 9.8/10 Overall 9.5/10 I don't like showing Austin love because the whole city is overrated now and days, but this place does brunch right. read more

I would've loved to rate this place higher given all the hype my friends have given me. Unfortunately the brisket in the mac and cheese was fully of fatty pieces and the pieces that were lean sub par and not flavorful. I tasted the rest of what my friends got and I wasn't that impressed either. It's getting 2 stars for the vibes and waiter was alright, also since it's my first time and the mac and cheese itself was good. I would love to try their brunch. I tried Jacoby's Restaurant & Mercantile for Easter Brunch. The seating was primarily outdoors with beautiful views. It was a little chilly outside, but they had outdoor seating. The food was great. There were both breakfast and lunch options at a buffet. The buffet included salad, fruit, mini cinnamon rolls, macaroni, grits, hash, prime rib, waffles and chicken fried steak. There were also a selection of desserts. The mini pecan pies were excellent. Service was friendly and attentive. read more

OVERVIEW: We pulled up for brunch on a Sunday around 11am and managed to park in the grass just off the busy road (they have valet but it's not complimentary). Seated right away for our 11:15am reservation, service was smooth. The menu offers up apps and sweet and savory dishes, along with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The prices are steep, but the portions seem generous. Unfortunately the value for me wasn't there - nothing stood out to me for the price point - and I don't think I see myself revisiting. QUICK FACTS: - Parking? Valet for $ or a few spots off the road in the grass (beware of all the towing signs). - Reservations? Yes, recommended but not required. FOOD RATINGS: - Tater tots (3/5): Described more as a cheesy mashed potato that's fried, these were exactly that. A little too mushy for my taste but not terrible. - Chicken fried steak and waffles (4/5): This was probably the best seller. Great flavor of sweet and savory, and adding an egg was perfect. - Chorizo migas (3/5): This was good but too salty, and I love salt. Not sure if it was the queso or the eggs themselves, but after a few bites I needed something sweet to break it up. We came on a great night when steaks and martinis were half off! It had been a few months since our last visit, but the food and service were just as excellent as we remembered. We ordered the steak frites, the chicken fried steak, and a couple of dirty gin martinis. Sitting at the bar, we received exceptional service from Ronnie and Mel. Great food, great service in a rustic setting. We came here with a group for Sunday brunch and had a great experience. The weather was nice so we sat outside, it was perfect. We started with a round of the cold brew, espresso martini's- they were great. The table shared the cornbread and deviled eggs topped with bacon to start, both were delightful. Someone is our group got the grits and said they were the best she has ever had. I ordered the turkey club, it was tasty but not sure I would order again. Nothing bad just nothing outstanding. Hubby got the steak and said it was phenomenal. They also have a little shop that sells cute random things. I would def return next time I'm in town. I will make sure to get the steak :) read more

Went for brunch on a Sunday. Real busy, we called ahead and they set aside a couple of chairs at the bar. That was typical of the service for the entire meal. It was great and it stood out. We also witnessed something real cool. Someone sitting next to use was using a debit card that was not clearing and about $5 short. After a couple of tries she discounted the bill and left enough to also tip the server. That was next level customer care. The food was also good. I ordered the avocado toast and asked to an egg on top. That was was the move the creaminess with the egg yolk and guacamole was great. It needed some heat so I added some hot sauce. I also ordered a side of cheese grits. Very nice job, they were cooked perfectly and a perfect amount of cheese blended in. They also added peppers for a slight hint of heat. Cool rustic place with nice feel. There is no self parking, you must valet. It was $6 to park. Overall good food and feel. Solid 4 to 4.5, bumping to a 5 for great customer service. Market price Fillet mignon with up charge of grits and Brussels plus up charge of bone marrow butter was spot on. Perfect cuts of meat. Highly recommend it you're looking for quality protein. The grits were not worth the up charge but the Brussels were crunchy and sweet--what great texture. House made Strawberry Cake was sweet and simple. Good to share after a filling meal. I came here after having heard about it as a great brunch spot. Being a little tired and weary after my recent trip, I appreciated the friendly and efficient service here on a Sunday evening. I was able to get a table for myself on my date outside with no wait. The chicken fried steak was one of the best I've ever had -- fresh, cooked in clean oil, with a light, crispy breading that was seasoned perfectly. The mashed potatoes were creamy and topped with a delicious gravy, and the fresh cracked pepper on both the steak and potatoes was a nice touch. The cocktails were also on point. Ate at this spot for brunch while visiting Austin. To our surprise, the only parking available for this establishment is against a fence along the street. Otherwise you had to valet. Nice and quaint on the inside with a gift shop type vibe at the entrance. The candles smelled so good. When we entered, the hostess asked if we had reservations which we didn't. She in turn, said we could sit outside as if it was a punishment but the weather was perfect for outside seating. She sat us at a table that was near something that was dripping water from the ceiling which I felt, so we asked to move and did. Their outside dining had a nice outdoor country type view. I ordered the chicken fried steak with gravy and waffles. Our waited said it was a popular dish. It was pretty good. The gravy was a bit bland, however. My BFF order the grilled meatloaf sandwich. She didn't like it at all, unfortunately. We didn't realize until we left that we completely forgot to get the famous strawberry cake. I do recommend giving it a try. We've dined at Jacoby's twice since our last review--once in March 2024 and again in October 2024. It makes perfect sense--spring and fall are the best times to enjoy their outdoor patio, especially with our pup! The back patio is one of our favorite spots, and it's even better when the weather is just right. If you can snag a table closer to the water, it's a fantastic spot to watch the sunset--especially if there's water in this stretch of the Colorado River. Just adds to the charm of dining here. Servers are always friendly too! They've changed their happy hour setup, now offering specials on Wednesdays and Thursdays instead of a standard HH. Be sure to check before you go! We've tried most of their appetizers, different cuts of steaks (including specials), and several mains--the fried chicken steak is always on point. The cocktails are tasty and reasonably priced, especially during their Wednesday Happy Hour Deal and Thursday Steak & Martinis special. Parking can be tricky since the restaurant is off Cesar Chavez, which tends to get busy, but the FREE valet is always available--a huge plus. Looking forward to our next visit! read more

My friend and I came here for a bite to eat before a ghost tour. She had made reservations online, which is highly recommended. I showed up first and was annoyed with having to pay $6 for valet parking. The attendant backed my car into a spot right near the entrance which I clearly could have done. Also, what was weird was that Venmo was specific to him. For starters, my friend and I got the deviled eggs with bacon. Why was it three pieces instead of four? It is annoying when restaurants use odd numbers. Is there some weird science behind that? The eggs were good and I loved the spicy hot sauce. However, I do not think they were worth the price. For my meal, I ordered the steak fritest. The steak was overcooked, and my meal came out just warm. I would never complain about this in a restaurant, but I was disappointed. I knew the steak and fries would have been better cooked med rare like I had asked, and coming out to me hot. That is why I am not changing my review rating. My friend had ordered the shrimp and grits and Brussels sprouts. The sprouts never showed up with our main course, and we had to ask about them. We ended up getting them complimentary, which was appreciated. The Brussels sprouts were amazing, the star of the whole meal!!! They were a fresh batch, flavorful, and just amazing overall. I had tried two drinks while here. The Marfa margarita was tasty, and the flavor was great. I would recommend getting that. The spicy Texan...I don't know where to begin...they must have run out of jalapeno peppers and subbed red bell pepper; it lacked both booze and spicy. Overall, I would come back here. I know my review does not sell it but I felt like maybe some of the issue was due to how busy it was the night I went. One thing to note is food allergies. The Crab Cake Benedict was perfection-- savory, decadent, briny and sweet with a dash of lemon. WARNING: the crab cake benedict runs at a steep price of $26. I also got to try a few of the morning side dishes, but noticed they were definitely hearty... as most southern cuisines are ie: smoked cheese grits, mac and cheese, etc. DRINKS: SO many to try that sound precisely curated with sooo little time and money! We were told to order the biscuits and gravy by others who've been so we did (plus an order of the deviled eggs). Probably shouldn't have ordered both because we were full. We split an entree as a result, the hash, which was delicious but we both wished there was more meat in it. The seasonal cocktails were the highlight of the meal! I thought I'd been to every famous brunch spot in Austin already, but my friend booked Jacoby's today for his going away meal, and it was such a wonderful experience from start to finish. The hostess initially sat us on the lower level of the patio, but I felt like it was more lively on the actual patio so I asked to move, and she was able to oblige almost immediately. Such great service! Our waiter was so sweet and awesome. I told him it was our friend's farewell brunch, and he brought out a really nice strawberry cupcake at the end. I honestly think the brunch food is really solid. I do love brunch but find that I don't have a strong opinion of most brunch plates I order, but today, I felt bad for wanting to eat every single bit of my chicken fried steak and waffles. I don't normally love chicken and steak because fried chicken is so heavy, but I absolutely love that they sub chicken fried steak as the main protein and also offer delicious gravy with sausage. The hardest decision is what to order for brunch--savory or sweet? For once, I was so satisfied because the gravy and sausage were savory but the maple syrup with the waffle was sweet. I tried some of my friends' steak and eggs and brisket benny, and both were also very delicious. Everything was super well cooked. My three friends and I also shared a carafe mimosa, and it was pretty strong. Not badly priced either for two full bottles of champagne. Service was on par--shoutout to our waiter! What a wonderfully surprising meal I had at Jacoby's! This unassuming little spot is tucked in between large buildings and s almost feels like an afterthought, but don't let it fool you. The inside is cozy and welcoming and almost feels like you've landed in someone's parlor The staff was friendly and helpful, even giving me a place to stow my luggage as I came right from the airport. "We don't want you to be crowded at your table" the hostess said. The food and drink were both homey and refined. The flavors had an upscale sensibility coming from traditionally down-home dishes. I had the meatloaf and the strawberry cake, the matriarchs recipe, and now I'm disappointed I did t try the pimento cheese too! All their steaks are grown on the Jacoby farm and are dry-aged 21-28 days. I'm really down for that type of "farm to table" supply chain. And I do think it showed in the quality. We came for happy hour, so the chicken fried steak and the steak frites we half off (I think the bill ended up being $14 and $21 respectively). I think the star was the chicken fried steak. Really crispy exterior, pillowy white gravy, tender steak inside. If I had to be critical, I think there may have been too much crazy, because it didn't add a ton of flavor (you can, of course, add pepper yourself). It did come with a little arugula salad, with a vinaigrette, which did provide nice contrast. The steak frites were solid (though not amazing). There was some gristle near the ends, but for the most part, the steak was tender for a sirloin cut. It was also cooked very well to specification, but did need a little salt to really bring out that beefy flavor. Even though they weren't meant to be the star, the frites actually shined. The service and ambiance I found very pleasant as well. Our waiter was attentive, but not overbearing. Also was happy to answer questions. The patio was lit just enough to provide a hip mood/vibe and had overhead heaters for when it started to get cold. We walked through the backyard on our way out, and it looked like a cool spot to have a beer on a warm night before your reservation. All in all, I'd recommend Jacoby's, it's well- worth the stop! But definitely recommend stopping by during happy hour, otherwise the price tag gets a little heavy. read more

I had previously been to Jacoby's for brunch but this was my first time for dinner. Service and portion sizes exceeded expectations, most of the food was pretty good, and as always, the strawberry cake for dessert was LITERALLY the icing on the cake for a great Saturday night dinner with family. If you've never been, the parking is valet only but the service is complimentary and tips are accepted. SERVICE - Our waitress, Kristie (not sure on the spelling), was FANTASTIC! She was very personable and checked on us frequently to make sure we had what we needed. Our food came out quickly and our water glasses were constantly getting refilled. PRICE - The portion sizes were larger than we were expecting (some of the pictures online made the dishes look small) so I think the pricing is reasonable for what you get. STUFFED YEAST ROLLS (7/10) - The menu says "3 for $14" but they accommodated us to have an order of 5 so everyone in our group could try one. The rolls were glistening with butter when they came out and were each a good size. The filling is very sloppy joe-esque with chopped pieces of beef in a rather sweet sauce. They're tasty but they don't knock your socks off. 1/2 LB CHEESEBURGER & FRIES (6.5/10) - The burger comes on a fluffy, toasted bun with lettuce, tomato, and red onion with pickles, ketchup, and a garlic aioli on the side with a pretty good portion of fries. The burger was cooked medium but there was almost no visible pink on the inside so I personally thought it was a little overcooked. The fries were pretty basic and weren't super hot so I ate a few and left the rest. This burger filled me up and was decent but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to anyone. BBQ MEATLOAF (7/10) - This was my husband's dish so I only had a small bite to try it... it was pretty good but didn't blow us away. It was a good size portion and the meatloaf was pretty moist. The creamed green beans and mashed potatoes were basic. MANCHEGO TATER TOTS (8/10) - I had previously tried these during brunch and they were just as good as I remembered! The inside texture is softer than a regular tater tot... closer to mashed potatoes. But, they are nice and crispy on the outside and the Jacoby's Special Sauce that comes with them is delicious! It has a slight heat that adds a nice flavor to the cheesy and salty tots. I'd recommend these to anyone I know coming! MAC & CHEESE (5/10) - I remembered this being WAY better when I had it for brunch... although that could be the difference between adding brisket and having it plain. Considering there are three different kinds of cheeses added in, the flavor is pretty muted and boring. Even with 5 people, we still left a fair amount of this behind because it didn't excite any of us. CRISPY BRUSSELS SPROUTS (8/10) - I didn't get a picture of these but they were very good! I feel like every restaurant has some sort of brussels sprouts dish and they're all basically the same but these actually stood out with the mustard flavor. I LOVED how it paired with the slight sweetness and the pecans. My only complaint is that these weren't very "crispy"... they were definitely on the softer side. Crisp these up a little under the broiler and they'd be a 10/10! STRAWBERRY CAKE (9/10) - Listen... I have dreams about this cake. Often. I'm usually team chocolate when it comes to desserts but this strawberry cake is PHENOMENAL! All you have to do is smell it and you're instantly reminded of those Good Humor strawberry shortcake ice cream bars. The cake is soft and fluffy, the frosting is dense and sweet, and the strawberry flavor runs throughout every bite without being artificial tasting. I do think the cake layers were slightly over baked on our slices because you can see the darker color near the middle frosting line. But even on a bad day, this cake is on another level. I will get this every single time I come! Other members of my group also ordered the Gulf Shrimp & Grits and the Hoppin' John with shrimp added... they had nothing but great things to say about the dishes and the portion sizes on them were bigger than expected. I think Jacoby's is a great option for brunch and a decent option for dinner. We were there from 6:30 - 9:00 pm on a Saturday night and it wasn't overly busy at any point but they were packed when I came for brunch so it seems like a lot of people agree. I had no idea this place had such a wonderful patio and lovely riverside ambiance. We did a whole food tour for my husband's birthday week and this was on our burger stop list. He loved it. I was impressed by the vegetarian friendly options too and came back stuffed from an excellent meal. The place is charming, service is great, definitely recommend for a date night, special occasion or to impress out-of-town guests. read more

I have no Yelp pull but I'm a veteran hospitality human from NYC for over 15 years. I'm new to Austin and was excited to try Jacoby's since it's near my apartment. The space itself is beautiful but everything else is a train wreck. * staff was inattentive and some were noticeably intoxicated * menu 'looked fun" but was wildly boring and under seasoned * no one checked in with me at all after being served my app or entree * drinks were honestly not good Overall for the price points, it was severely lackluster. Was shocked to see this place had a 4 star review - had a very pleasant experience this morning! Went with a friend to grab their weekend brunch as I had heard fabulous things and I can tell you I was not disappointed! Valet is required but is complementary for eating with them. They have a large indoor and outdoor seating selection with misting fans for hot days and most is covered from what I saw. The interior decor felt like a rustic cabin, it was beautiful! For food we both ordered the Beef Hash as beef is their speciality, sourced from their farm just a few hours away with natural no hormone raised cows. The hash was incredible! From the flavor of the beef to the mixture of potatoes onions and peppers I would come back again just to get this! In tandem we ordered a warm cinnamon roll that you could tell was baked fresh. It was the best cinnamon roll I've had in I don't know how long! Big shoutout to Rachel as she was fantastic, not to mention if for whatever reason she didn't have a sec to check in the staff as a whole was ready to help. I went to Jacoby's for the first time on a first date so limited pictures. ;) It was rainy and cold so I was glad we sat inside. We were in a tiny back room that looked perfect for a tiny private party or gathering. It was just past the bathrooms if you want to check it out. PS I love the bird wallpaper in the hallway outside the bathroom. Check that out too!! :) The service was fantastic from the valet, to the hostess, to our server. It was spot on. I loved the ambiance in our tiny room. I wanted to take the lamp and run. Well, walk carefully to my car. I'm a sucker for vintage and this lamp had my grandmother's living room written all over it. (See pic) We ordered the deviled eggs- topped with bacon- because...duh!?! They were amazing. They bacon had a little spicy kick so if that's not your thing get it without bacon. I ordered the burger and it was presented beautifully. It had fresh lettuce and tomato and delicious spicy pickles. Next time, I will ask for extra pickles. The fries were a "tiny" bit undercooked. I love good crispy fries. I had a dig around to find some really good ones. My burger was cooked to my liking-medium rare and the bun was fresh and light. There was a bit too much bun for my taste. I would definitely come here again and taste my way around the menu. Go check it out! read more

I've seen this place on so many "to go lists" in Austin and I'm thankful for my friends who managed to get a last-minute reservation here for one of my goodbye dinners. We were there in the evening so I didn't get to see the views, but this place has a lot of character. I love the decor and all the pieces they have, it's like walking into an antique/art store. The food selection was great! Someone from our party decided to order pretty much all the appetizers, which made for a fun, family style setting. We all got to try everything! Then for the main entree, I feel like you had to go for anything with beef. Some friends ordered the steak, but I opted for the burger, which I actually think was way better than the steak. Drinks were decent, actually they're pretty strong! Service is great, staff was super friendly and very accommodating for our large party. I even got a selfie with our server when we asked him to take a photo of our group. Parking is mostly street, but they do offer valet. read more

Loved our early Mother's Day brunch at Jacoby's. The beautifully decorated outdoor patio with views of the river made for a lovely and inviting atmosphere. The house-made baked items were standouts on the menu. Our favorites were the scones and cinnamon roll. You must try them. We also really enjoyed the Mac n cheese and Bloody Mary (seasoned and garnished perfectly). Service was so friendly and attentive. I would love to come back for dinner. we had been meaning to check out Jacobys for a while and it did not disappoint for brunch! Really cool interior and massive exterior on the banks of the river. My only feedback is that the experience would be elevated with espresso and other coffee options available. The drip coffee was good though! Service was nice and attentive and we didn't wait long for the biscuits (the star of the show), and shared the chicken migas and beef hash. It was evident Jacobys use quality ingredients and meat sourced from their ranch in Elgin. read more
