This spot is such a hidden gem! We stopped here for the 5-7 pm happy hour. The interior is beautiful, and also completely empty...I was wondering why it was so empty. The price points are high - but hey it is a classy spot. The HH ceviche and duck bao ($9.50) were great bites to start. For my entree I ordered the mussels ($22.50) - the mussels could have been larger... but that broth tastes like pepperoni pizza, in the best way possible. First visit and first impression - impeccable service, with above average food. We had a work dinner here, with a few people celebrating birthdays. When we sat down we were greeted with a birthday card and a customized menu, with name specific birthday well wishes at the top. That set a high bar for the night but the staff lived up to it! I thought everything was delicious. The service was excellent and the seats were comfortable. We got the Indian puff tacos, crispy cauliflower, quinoa falafel, burrata, mushrooms, lobster rolls, tomahawk ribeye, etc. all the appetizers had a twist and fusioned with something else. I went to a while back when this place first opened. I have to say the inside is so nice. It is a great venue for date night or girls night. The staff is very welcoming and very attentive they give you recommendations. We got a variety of plates cause we like to just share everything and taste many things. We did get the chimichurri steak, which is delicious and cooked perfectly. You must order the beads. It is delicious with some type of goat sauce that they bring it in. This is one of the popular dishes there. We also shared the muscles. They were in a very good sauce where you wanna continue to dip bread in to savor it. The little wedge salad plate we got I have to say was good but make sure you finish it because it does get soggy and not good after that. They have a large menu for their cocktails. I'm surprised that not a lot of people are talking about the kitchen. It's amazing across all the three boxes - food, ambiance and service. They're hidden currently by construction tbh. That's not serving them well. Across from tenten, next to Devil May care - we stumbled upon this place in search of a friday happy hour. They have a happy hour every day and their menu is fusion menu of fusion of Indian, American cuisines. The bartenders were really nice. They had a very good selection of food and drinks in their happy hour menu. You can find a big gin and tonic for a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend this place. If you're in the Neighbourhood check it out some of my favorite dishes, here were puffy tacos, cauliflower, and corn salad. read more

Really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. For starters, I recommend getting the carrots yes, the carrots. They serve it with some whipped feta, which is out of this world. Also, their Ceviche and Crudos are worth a try. Very fresh. If you try the Duck Bao's, please note that the meat is more of a braised duck and not a peeking duck version. read more

We were very grateful to have a reservation at this place given the fact that there were 13 of us. The restaurant was beautiful and staffs were nice. Mixed drinks mediocre. We ordered a lot of different dishes but the star of the dinner was their curry flavor cauliflower 9/10. We all agreed that the kitchen lacked of organization since French fries were the last dish that came out after the proteins were served. Like oversalted to the point where that's all I could taste. Service was meh. Our server seemed checked out and things took forever. For what we paid, I expected way better - both the food and the attention. The place looks nice and I can see what they're going for with the menu, but they're not nailing it atm. There are too many other great restaurants in dt Austin to waste your time and money here until they get their act together. Maybe give it a few months and check back? I was in town for the F1 Grand Prix, hosting customers and partners, aiming to give them a top notch experience. We made a reservation for 10 at 6 PM, thinking that we'd easily make it back downtown within 2 hours. After the race, we braved the (awful) traffic and realized we wouldn't be able to make it in time, so I called the restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by an understanding and accommodating response, allowing us to push things back by an hour. When we finally made it to the restaurant, we were all pretty tired and hungry. Thankfully, The Kitchen gave us such a lovely experience. The decor and ambience are top notch and the service is fantastic. It was a little concerning that the restaurant was mostly empty, but it was thankfully not in any way a predictor of the quality of the food. I am guessing that most people wanted to head home after a long weekend. Before we ordered food, the table ordered a round of drinks. The Old Fashioned was spot on -- not too sweet, with a exclusive to the restaurant bourbon, and a perfectly clear big ice cube. Others expressed that their cocktails were also on point. The food was a very good surprise. The Kitchen is largely family style eating, where dishes arrive as they are ready, allowing diners to share a large variety of dishes. The Thai-style Crab Fried Rice was the first dish that arrive, and was fantastic. It was followed by a beautiful pasta dish, hearty bone marrow with braised lamb, mini lobster rolls (phenomenal), and more. I highly recommend The Kitchen! read more

Stopped in for brunch with the family. Every dish ordered was fantastic. Started with the beignets, and apple danish's. Then moved on the a dozen oysters. Tried the cubano for a sandwich and it was amazing. Tried some of families orders such as the shrimp and grits, and the ceviche. Was all amazingly good. They offer valet service for only $13! Well worth it. Will be going back to try their tomahawk dinner entree because it looks amazing and have heard great things about it. Dramatic, theatre like, sensual with a touch of western. Should belong to steakhouse/upscale category. My main hype is the mussel dish. It's not hard to get the mussels right but Kimbal added youtiao to be the accent to this dish. As a kid raised in China, youtiao is our breakfast street food: it was cute and nostalgic for me. My wife and I went to The Kitchen today, 2-1-25 as one of the restaurants for our trip to Austin for our 13 year anniversary. I knew of this place during to being a fan of Elon, and his brother Kimbal is the owner. The food was wonderful and tasted great. The atmosphere was nice and the restrooms were clean and smelled great with the candles lit in there! I would definitely come again. Thanks as well for the pancakes on the house for our anniversary. Despite the reviews, we still wanted to give them a try because the menu offered some options that sounded too irresistible to pass up. After our experience, I will definitely be coming back! I can't believe how stunningly pretty this restaurant is! The hostess was welcoming, our server Addi was so nice and offered great selections and our food was delicious! We arrived during their Rose All Day offering and had crisp wonderful glasses of their Raventos Blanc and August Kessler. For two people, we shared the cabbage, cauliflower, burrata, gnocchi and crab rice. Although the flavors are all over the place, from India to China and Italy, it still works and we loved every bit of it! The cauliflower, burrata and crab rice were my top favorites! We were not really wowed by the dessert menu and opted out. However, after just checking their online menu, it looks like things have changed and the strawberry cake is calling my name. This place is an absolute disaster. So pricey, and both the food and service are horrible. Went for dinner on Saturday night of their opening weekend, and waited 45 minutes for a drink. 2 of our plates were served before the martini came out. When my martini did come out, it was made wrong. The person I was dining with didn't get his drink -- that he ordered as soon as we sat down -- until he asked for the check. Even worse, the manager came over and offered dessert on the house because of the drink debacle. They then ADDED THE DESSERT TO OUR TAB, in addition to leaving our drinks on the tab. The food was incredibly below average for the $$$ price tag, but the service is an absolute clown show. 0% chance I ever return. read more

Some of the dishes were special and outstanding (the Crispy Cauliflower, Gnocchi, and the Grilled Oysters), and some were only amazing (the Denver Steak was a bit too salty for me, but still very good). But there was nothing mediocre. The hostess and our server and everybody else we came in contact with were incredibly friendly. We felt well taken care of. Went for dinner Friday Dec 5. We didn't have a reservation but that was no problem. One thing I did note was a gentleman came in to ask if there was valet parking which there was not. I felt bad for the guy because they seemed baffled by this question. "Park on the street and hope you don't get towed. That's what I do." Maybe have a script with general info about parking. Inside it's a very pretty space, the bar looks particularly inviting. The menu is organized in an interesting manner. There are items that lean more toward appetizers mixed with entree items. According to waitstaff there are no appetizers or entrees it's all meant to share. As someone else noted the restaurant is a little dim and the menu printing is light and the font is small. Now the food, ceviche flavor was great, the pieces were just a bit chunky. I liked the yucca chips served with it. They were a nice crunch that didn't take away from the flavor of ceviche. Carrots were good, I guess they're know. For these? They were just a bit different than described. Waiter said crispy outside and creamy inside. There wasn't much crisp. We ordered the redfish which was a massive piece of fish! There was a sauce on it that was very good. Overall a nice experience. read more

Would have provided 5 stars but the restaurant was so cold the experience wasn't as nice as it could have been and the music was off putting. Rap and dance wasn't what I would expect at a place like this. The restaurant looks unwelcoming from outside, in fact it doesn't look open. We live in the area and have walked by it several times without really knowing it was there. But once inside you are greeted with a beautiful ambience, vaulted ceilings and an upscale but very comfortable even homey environment. We didn't have reservations so we sat at the bar. The service was excellent, the bar was busy but we were greeted quickly. She explained the shareable menu and made some recommendations. We had the carrots, the cabbage, beets and the KC steak. A few glasses of wine and the cheesecake rounded out our experience. Bartender was great, funny and she had everyone laughing and talking together. Each dish was delicious. Surprisingly delicious for how simple it seems. Flavorful, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. They are not making anything outrageous just doing good food very well. Which is nice on one hand (quiet, easy to be seated), but not so nice in a venue that seems to have spent most of its creativity and money on atmosphere (rather than food).
