We decided to go here for brunch on a Monday to use a gift card our son & daughter in law gave us last Christmas. We are really glad we did! The vibe is very much old Austin, located in a little blue cottage on the corner of Waterston Ave and West Lynn Street in the Clarksville neighborhood just west of downtown. There are lots of outdoor seating options, but since we didn't have a reservation we opted to sit inside. We were surprised at how many people were there for a Monday morning. We were quickly attended to by Stevie, our server. She was very friendly and took great care of us. My wife wanted a mimosa (didn't see it on the menu) but Stevie made it happen. I chose the Huevos Rancheros and my wife had the Rice Bowl with the chicken option (+$12.00). Our food arrived in a relatively short time and we were very pleased with the presentation. The Rice Bowl was huge! Lots of veggies to go with the chicken, black special rice, poached egg, and greens. The Huevos Rancheros was not as large a portion, but was amazing. The sunny-side up eggs covered a bed of black beans, ranchero sauce, cotija cheese, and cilantro on a wonderful fried tostada. Very tasty! I devoured it all without prejudice! My wife's Rice Bowl (I got to taste it) had an amazing blend of flavors with all the different veggies, chicken, and salsa verde. There was enough to take leftovers for later in the day as it was a large portion. Bill came to ~$70, so a little pricey, but all in all, a great dining experience. Great spot for a brunch date! I was a bit concerned about the weather since we had planned to sit outside, but their covered patio worked out perfectly. It started raining shortly after we were seated, and we stayed completely dry. They were also very accommodating with a last minute change to our reservation when we had an extra guest join us, which we really appreciated. My wife ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes and I had the steak and eggs. Both were great. The steak, in particular, was cooked perfectly. I've been excited to go to Josephine House as I love the Clarksville area and restaurants that look like houses just draw me in! I went for brunch and thought the service was very good. The space, vibe, and decor both inside out were great. For the food, we had a pastry (very good), the pancakes, avo toast, sides of bacon and scrambled eggs. The lemon ricotta pancake was great! I thought the avo toast was also pretty good. The sides were more ehhh with my scrambled eggs being undercooked and underwhelming and the bacon being mostly fat and not crisply. While i love the decor (especially the outside where they have like almost these little cabanas), the tables, silverware, flatware etc didn't feel like the freshest and cleanest. So overall, I would def return as it's a good spot, but not in a rush to put in on a rec list or bring friends/family visiting. We showed up in between brunch and dinner so we were kindly allowed to sip or tea/drinks and enjoy some bread while we waited. Services so exceptional and the food as well. We ordered the lamb bolognese and steak frites. The frites were perfection and the steak cooked to tender juiciness. They serve it with a house steak sauce unlike others with chimicurri. The decor is charming, the vibe is cozy, and our server was genuinely sweet without being pushy (which I always appreciate). The schnitzel was pretty damn good and huge. I loved how fresh and herb-forward everything tasted. "For to drink": Go for the Scarlet Sun -- a coconut-washed bourbon cocktail that'll get you buzzed but still feels light and refreshing. It's culinary noise taking up space but not really elevating the food scene. For that same money, I'd rather support a spot that brings bold flavors, creativity, or maybe global influence to the table. At least give me something memorable. My friend came across Josephine's House via an Instagram post and wanted to try it out! It is really cute on the inside w/ limited seating so def make a reservation. We shared the buttered croissant which was flaky on the outside and very buttery breading. I ordered the lox and chef's kiss; love the layering of the sour cream, hash brown, and lox. My friend ordered the huevos rancheros; interesting how they place the egg and toppings atop a tostado chip to easily pick up and consume. We have eaten dinner and brunch here and loved both experiences. The food was top notch and the portions were sized perfectly. Often nice restaurants don't give you enough food, but that's not the case here. You also don't have to leave stuffed, but if you do you can walk around the cute neighborhood a little. The restaurant is in an old house. It's adorable even though I'm a little torn about housing options shrinking in Austin. At least this cute house didn't get torn down for high rise condos! Came on a Friday morning for brunch with my husband. Managed to get a reservation for 10:15am the night before, which was lucky because everything from 10:30 to 1:30 was already fully booked. The atmosphere is incredibly quaint. Very clean, bright aesthetic; it's genuinely enjoyable to sit and soak it all in. We ordered a cappuccino and a masala chai latte to start. They're on the smaller side, and we both ended up ordering a second one, but the chai latte was easily one of the best I've had. I savored every sip. For food we got the shrimp and grits and the rice bowl with steak. We were both very happy with our orders. I loved the different textures and flavors in my rice bowl, and the steak was cooked very well. I do wish the pickled vegetables had been pickled longer or cut a bit smaller, but overall both dishes were really good. Service was very nice and friendly, just a little slow. Given how often I saw our server running between tables inside and outside, and how busy they were, I'm not surprised things took a bit longer. Both had a decedent rich flavor and the waitress heated them up with us and sent them over in a cute little basket. For mains we ordered the huevos rancheros and the avocado toast. The huevos was a little small portion size but for us it was perfect since we weren't starving. The avocado toast was decent in size and had an egg on top to fill you up. They have a full service coffee bar with lattes or just drip coffee that was equally as good. If you're looking for more of a boozy brunch they also had some nice bubbles and cocktails! Seating was a little cramped since the indoor space isn't huge but we enjoyed the fact that it was more quaint. Want to come back and try lunch or dinner next. We used Josephine House, specifically the Apartment for our wedding reception and it was absolutely perfect. Working with them went very smoothly, and Merry was patient and answered all my questions. They were also very accommodating to my nephew who is allergic to nuts, providing him a basket of his own pastries with no nuts. Our wedding was initially scheduled the day of the freeze when everything shut down, and so we had to reschedule, and they were very helpful with that process as well. I was given updates and communicated with when they decided to close due to the weather, and I really appreciated that. Day of, the room was decorated beautifully with flowers. We were able to hook up our music easily, and the private bathroom was very nice. Our server was absolutely wonderful and attentive. The food was delicious- we had a salad, a collection of pastries, a cheese board, yogurt, burgers, and of course their lemon ricotta pancakes. Everything was amazing and brought out at appropriate times and our guests were very satisfied and impressed. The coffee they had was wonderful as well. This was my second time at Josephine House, and as expected, it was delicious! I met a friend for breakfast, and we made a reservation in advance. We were seated immediately at a table inside, in their beautiful dining area. I was so thankful to have the inside table, since it was in the 90s outside, even at 9am! The dining area has a few 2-top tables, as well as 2 longer tables for groups of 4-6 people. We sat at a 2-top, and it was the perfect size for us, as well as pretty comfortable wooden chairs. Also, pastries are displayed at the end of the dining room, making it really easy to choose what you want! I thought this was a nice touch. The service was attentive and quick throughout our meal. We never felt rushed, and I appreciated how knowledgeable the staff was about the menu. Although I didn't get the chance to take a picture of the food (my friend and I were too busy catching up!), I ordered the Greek yogurt with a Nutella morning bun to share, and my friend ordered the pancakes with a side of bacon. We also ordered drip coffee, and it came with a french press for the table filled with extra coffee to refill our cups.
