If you are near the area of Milford CT near exit 35 off I-95, strongly recommend Mattie's Service Center. On hour 4 of our 8 hour road trip from cape cod to Maryland, we heard a very serious noise from our vehicle . The noise and sensation was feeling very unsafe so we stopped at auto body shop and were recommended Mattie's Service center on Manson St. Workers were extremely attentive, kind and helped right away to find and explain the problem. It was serious and could have been very dangerous if we hadn't stopped. Thankfully Jake and Matt B. fixed the issue right away and made sure to give us a detailed report of the service. After having someone (a friend of a friend) mistakenly not do a great job on my breaks and ended up twisting a break hose, this specific individual I could not return to because of sexual harassment, unfortunately. So, I told Mattie's what happened and they totally took care of my twisted hose and did a safety Inspection for free! Not a whole lot to say, but a straightforward review. I tried out Mattie's Service Center on the recommendation of a friend of mine. I'm used to going to the dealership because it was almost impossible to find a mechanic that was honest and fairly priced. Mattie's is just that. Honest, fair, up front, and timely. I was selling a truck and needed to get it running. I didn't know exactly what was wrong but I had an idea. Mattie's found the problem quick, gave me a fair price on fixing it and got me back up and running. Exactly what I needed. They didn't try to upsell me, they didn't exaggerate the problem, they got it done for basically what they quoted and when they said it'd be done. I'm very sad that I have to leave a less than positive review, since the quality of work done, timeliness, price, and friendliness of the staff deserve 5 stars. However I can't ignore the fact that both times I entered the shop lobby (on separate days), none of the staff were wearing masks. CT is a state that mandates masks in businesses, and this shop does have clear signage requiring customers to wear masks, so I was very surprised to see no employees wearing them. When I asked about this, I was told that since the staff is behind plexiglass, they don't wear them. The plexiglass of course helps, but the air can circulate above, below, and around the sides of the partition, and every other business I have been to (including other mechanics and my own workplace) still uses masks in conjunction with plexiglass, so this was very unsettling to me. In addition, none of the staff driving customers' vehicles were wearing masks or gloves in the vehicles. The person ringing me up DID put on a mask when I asked, so I appreciated that, but it is clearly not common practice for the staff to wear them. Both of these things together make me concerned that this business is not taking steps to protect customers OR their own staff during the current pandemic. If I had known this before I brought my car here, I would have gone elsewhere, because I felt very unsafe. I'm honestly shocked that no other reviewers have mentioned it, so I thought someone should say something in case this is a concern to others who are vulnerable to COVID. So many 5-star reviews make it clear this business does good work, so I hope they will improve their COVID safety in the future. read more

They're not trying to squeeze extra money out of you and are honest about what immediately needs to get fixed and what work can be done when your budget allows for it. Everyone that works there is really friendly and willing to take the time to help the customers understand what is going on with their car. i've been places where they try and take advantage of you being a woman but Mattie's is honest and trustworthy. They don't communicate when service will be finished. They promised my car would be done before 5pm. They never called. My car stayed there overnight and I had to figure out how I was getting my kids to school and myself to work. When I talked to them the next day the guy just said "yeah your car is ready". When I picked it up I nicely inquired why it was kept overnight and why they didn't call me. The guy snapped at me and said he had a lot of things he was doing! - Sorry, not acceptable when you have someone's car they rely on. The waiting area and outside were clean, I was greeted warmly and the service was thorough. Even more impressive was the conversation I heard with the elderly gentleman in front of me who appeared to be a regular customer. He paid for his service and asked about a noise. The mechanic said, "the car is older and it's a $1200 repair you don't need because the car runs fine. I was referred to Mattie's service center by another college at work. He stated they send all their service trucks there. So I dropped my truck off and had service done. I also had them look at a few other issues. They did a great job on the service and they took care of some of the other issues and they didn't hike up any prices and they even recommended to take the truck into another place because they didn't want to dive into something they weren't 100% sure on how to repair. Hands down, the best mechanic I've ever been to. The guys here are great. They have been maintaining/servicing my F150 and my wife's Jeep since we moved to our current home in Milford in 2011. Until dealing with the guys at Mattie's, I was always skeptical as to whether mechanics working on my vehicles were: #1 honest with me and #2 able to accurately diagnose and fix problems as efficiently as possible. With Mattie's, I don't even have to question it. They've ALWAYS been honest with me and they've ALWAYS been able to find and fix the problem. And they are very fair with their pricing. I think it's also worth noting that I have an aftermarket warranty on my truck, and they've never had a problem handling or getting claims approved. Mattie's is the Best! We were greeted with a smile when we were feeling rather blah with a vehicle that would not charge the battery. Tried fixing it ourselves to no avail. A little time passed and were told that the part for our Jeep was no longer available, so the technicians fixed the part. This place is great! I brought in my 2004 Honda Element for an estimate on suspension repairs. The service and attention was First Class. The waiting room is clean and well-lit. There is wifi. The mechanic first took me for a test ride in my car, to see what exactly the trouble was. This is important. This way, the mechanic knows exactly what needs attention. After returning to the garage, (the garage is also very clean, well-lit, and organized), and putting the car up on the lift, the mechanic gave the car a thorough inspection. Then he brought me into the garage to show me exactly what was wrong with my car. The gentleman actually showed me the wear on my car, and the way that was affecting the handling. This is unprecedented. After this very thorough inspection, the mechanic gave me a detailed estimate of what needed repairs and what I could expect to pay. He also gave me some options as to what needed immediate repairs, and what repairs could wait for a little while. All-in-all, this was one of the most pleasant visits to the repairs shop I've ever had! This business is run by a crook. While working in the area on business I had the oil changed in my car. The car was 3 months old and this was the first oil change. They improperly lifted my car to perform the oil change. In doing so, they cracked the rocker panels on both sides of my car. I complained to the mechanic, and called my insurance company. They have ignored my calls, ignored letters sent by my insurance company, lied over the phone and hung up on them when they have called. Do not do business with this company. read more

Mattie's handled a vacation trip problem superbly. Enroute to Milford, my car began making some rumbling noises in the front end. I was going to vacation in NYC for a few days so wanted a shop to fix the problem while I left the car in their hands. Mattie accommodated a same day drop off, and pick up three days later (over the 4th of July holiday). They spent a bunch of time diagnosing my wheel bearing problem -- left, right, or both -- and called me in NYC with an estimate for both. Car was ready for me upon arrival and the problem was fixed. I was pleased with their customer service; they seem very professional and appear to have a well-run shop with certified and educated techs. I had a nail in my tire and first went to Town Faire Tire (mistake). They tried to sell me a new tire instead of fixing it. They used predictable scare tactics with me on why a plug would not work.
