We have used this plumber for multiple properties in the past, which made this experience especially disappointing. A water heater failed after approximately four years. We were told it was out of warranty and that nothing was wrong, despite an active leak and recurring gas error codes even after multiple restarts. When we contacted the manufacturer directly, Rheem confirmed the unit was still under warranty. Because of this, we hired a different plumber and replaced the unit. We are now dealing with ongoing issues with the manufacturer regarding reimbursement for an identical replacement water heater. Communication during this process was poor, and we felt blamed for the issue rather than supported. In a text message exchange following the service, we were told we should "hire some other plumber" going forward and were referred to as "clowns." Screenshots of this exchange are available. Given our prior history with the company having done 2 water heaters and multiple plumbing repairs over $5000,, the handling of this situation and the tone of communication felt unprofessional. Had a faucet handle break off and water was going everywhere throughout the bathroom and the laundry room, we were having a baby shower at the time and it was pure pandemonium. Lol use Yelp to call a lot of plumbers but only RJ from Mattson Plumbing return my phone call! I was in a panic and couldn't turn off the water. He told me he would be there in seven minutes. I think he was there in five! He was fantastic. Amateur. Amateur on his skill, amateur on his word, amateur on his professionalism, and amateur on his accountability. If you have the courage to hire this company, pray that the job is easy and turns out perfect because dealing with him afterward will be a hassle. Issue #1: A trusted contractor referred him to demo and install a new shower valve in the bathroom I was remodeling. Once the job was done, he was given a check for the job, and I asked him to give me a bid for the work done so I had it for my records. I continued to ask several times, and over six weeks later, I still don't have it. Issue #2: After he finished the job (and already having lost my trust and respect for having failed to provide me with the bid), I called in a plumbing foreman I trust to finish the job he started and install the fixtures. While here the foreman brought to my attention that RJ did not strap the handheld piping (see photo) for the new shower. And that's after the 5K tile job was finished. I know, I should have had someone review his work afterward, but how would I've known of his amateur skills... Since I did not want to cut corners on the job, I immediately contacted RJ and told him he needed to come back in, get behind the wall and do the job right. He came back in, met with my title guy (who, understandably, wanted to avoid breaking into the tile work), and they both opened two different cuts on the drywall to see if RJ could get back there to strap the piping. The first hole was done next to the tile work on the wall behind where the toilet was going back in. He decided he couldn't fit.He then suggested breaking the wall above the tile work (8 feet high). He still wasn't able to go through. So I had to SETTLE for him, just caulking the handheld instead. While there, he admitted his mistake of not strapping the pipe but made no apologies for the inconvenience caused. Before leaving, I ensured he knew he was responsible for the damage (it cost me $200 to have it fixed), and he went, "Call me later, and we'll figure it out." I texted and called him several times during a 10-day period, and nothing. Crickets. He even ignored the GC who referred him to my house. Then I decided to finally call him on his BS via text, to which he responded. We went back and forth for a few minutes, and he continued to act as if he did nothing wrong (despite having admitted himself on site). At that point I decided to just leave it alone because $200 isn't worth the negativity of dealing with unethical and unaccountable professionals. It's mindblowing that somehow he thinks I'm responsible for the damage done during the process he led to try and fix his incomplete job in the first place! Issue #3: While doing the job on the first day, RJ pointed out that one of my newly installed faucets was faulty as the cold water pressure was weak. He suggested I go in and purchase a new one, which I did. However, when the foreman mentioned above was over to install the fixtures, I brought this to his attention. Apparently, all he had to do was look under the sink and untangle the cold water faucet connector to release the pressure. Imagine that! The guy told me to spend another $130 on a new faucet without taking the time to bend over and look under the sink. Stay away. read more

RJ from Mattson plumbing installed my water heater in 2022. RJ refused to send a receipt for the work even after repeated requests (he just kept promising to send tomorrow and then stopped responding altogether). NOTE TO OTHERS: please make sure to get a paid receipt from him before making any payment. The water heater had a leak less than one year after install. After many requests, he finally came to take a look. He initially misdiagnosed the issue, then later said that he needed some parts, then took weeks to reach out to the manufacturer. The manufacturer shipped some parts overnight, which RJ finally installed, but this didn't resolve the issue. RJ again stopped picking up the phone and stopped responding to any texts. The unit was still under warranty, but he wanted us to pay $500 for service. Note that the issue wasn't fixed and his work order clearly mentioned that he provides 2 years of Warranty on install, and unit has its own warranty. I agreed to paying that but requested a receipt first, but he again used those deferral tactics saying send me the money first and he will send a receipt the next day. Looks like this is his standard practice, and he is doing something fraudulent by not officially reporting those earnings. NOTE TO OTHERS: Please stay away from this company. The unprofessionalism of this company has caused us significant pain (being without hot water for more than 3 weeks). He still refuses to send us a receipt for the water heater which we need for manufacturer warranty for further repairs. I contacted RJ with Mattson Plumbing on 05/04 to take a look at a sink in our primary bath and I scheduled an appointment for them to come out on 05/09 to assess the situation. The guy who came to our house was great! On 05/10, I received a text from RJ about the services that were being recommended and we scheduled an appointment for the work to be done on the afternoon of 05/17. About 40 minutes prior to the scheduled arrival time on 05/17, I received a text that their schedule was running behind for the day (totally get it - it happens!) and we rescheduled for today with an arrival time between 10:00-11:00am.
