Replaced the water tank (10+ years old which has water leaking signs already) on the same day. Two technicians came to install it from 4pm-ish to 8pm-ish and did an excellent job. However, instead of fixing the problem, he informed my elderly mother and sister that they would need to call another plumber to resolve the issue. This left them without water and in a vulnerable position, which is particularly concerning given their age and circumstances. It is disheartening to see a business take advantage of those who may already be struggling. I believe that all customers, especially the elderly and disabled, deserve fair treatment and reliable service. We had this company come out in January. The plumber at that time knew the problem and performed a temporary fix. He said the part will eventually fail and would need replacement but his temporary fix would extend that need for a bit. We had a great experience with him so we called back to have the repair done when it eventually failed. When we had our appointment this time, it was between 3-5 pm. No one showed up and I had to call to check on them at 5:20. We were told he was stuck in traffic and would eventually be there. He got there about 6:30. He checked the issue and said he had to buy the part but the part store was closed and would have to come back the next day. He said then that the replacement would be almost $500 but if we paid cash, he could make it $450. I thought that meant it would take a long time to fix as the part was under $100 (also available at Home Depot and Lowes that are definitely open at 6:30 on a Thursday). So we agreed to the repair. My husband said he was there for less than an hour. It seems that $450 is extreme for such a quick repair, especially given the poor communication. read more

1. Had plumbing issues November 24 2021. 2. The plumber came over at 9:00Pm. $200.00 just to walk in the door. (fair) 3. The main feed was backed up thus sewage was backing into both tubs in both bathrooms. 4. The plumber had to remove the toilet for access. $650.00 (standard) 5. The plumber snaked and the far bathroom cleared but the tub in the bathroom where he snaked did not. 6. He told us to put drano in that tub. Since it was the night before Thanksgiving , we let him go even though the job wasn't complete. We thought they would come back and finish the job if the drano didn't work. 7. They tried to tell us that feed to that tub was blocked, spoiler it wasn't. The water eventually went down, very slowly but eventually backed up again. Plus when taking showers, both tubs backed up. Flushing was slow too. 8. December 6 the issue fully showed itself again. This is not surprising because the job was not completed correctly the first time. Both tubs backed up again. 9. Called the plumber back. $250.00 (I removed the toilet myself) 10. The same plumber snaked the same toilet but this time both tubs cleared as all other water in the system cleared as well. 11. The plumber then said "NOW IT IS All CLEARED", implying it wasn't cleared the first time. 12. The plumber walked into our house without a mask, I found out he did so the first visit as well. There is no doubt in my mind that on the 11/24 visit he did not do the job correctly. Maybe he was in a hurry because it was late and thanksgiving. So, Rudy showed up on time.....said it was gonna cost at first $420???? Then he went down to $375, then when I said 'No way", he said he could go down to $350. This, for about 15-30 minutes of work. You're asking what he had to install? See photo. All I needed was the p-trap installed. The photo was my old one from a two basin sink. I reached out to CalTek around 8:30 in the morning since my kitchen and master bedroom sinks weren't draining. A nice lady picked up the phone and said she could have some one out between 9:30 and 10:30am the same day and provide a free estimate. The tech Jordan showed up around 10am and took a look at what was going on. He said that the main line was clogged and he could get it fixed and provided an estimate. He didn't have the right snake with him since the one he had was for a larger pipe. He explained using it on this clean out might damage it. He can pick up the right one back at the shop, but he has another house to stop at before he could return to fix our clog. Said he could be back around 12pm. Around noon I got a call stating he was on his way. Jordan showed up at our doorstep around 12:10pm. About 20min later he was all done. Pipes unclogged and everything draining fine. Jordan stuck around as I asked him about thankless water heaters. He was super informative. I definitely recommend CalTek based on our interactionsl w/ Jordan. I had an excellent experience from the first phone call with Iris she was an excellent customer service rep, and it was refreshing to get a friendly , caring person on the other line. Our bathroom had a bad smell we had an another company come out and they quoted us $17,000 to re-pipe our 1200 square-foot mobile home. They were going redo all of the sewer pipes. We thought that was a bit much so when I called Iris, she sent her excellent crew out to take a look we had. The person who came to do the repair was nice. However, I'm still having the same issue with the leak underneath my sink. They put a new kitchen air gap and caulk to make sure their was no surface water coming in. I asked if I use my dishwasher would it leak and he said that it would be safe without leaking. I ran the dishwasher and the leak still persist ($280 for an item + materials that = $35). They told me I need a new faucet since they found another leak on top as well that would cost $280 to replace. The faucet was safer to use than the dishwasher and will install new faucet manually instead of asking Caltek to come and replace. Overall, overpaid for unsatisfactory service. I had a leak in the water main pipe in my front yard. Called Caltek. Jesus came out, looked at it and quoted me $1,250.00 to fix/replace the broken elbow PVC piece. Said it was a flat rate. Basically told him that I considered that highway robbery and that I wasn't interested. Then, I called another (reputable) plumbing company. They came out and fixed the problem on the spot for a flat $300.00. You can do your own math! Ridiculous! read more

EDIT to respond to the business owner: Thank you for your reply. You are 100% correct in that I should do better research in the future, which is why I said shame on me. I did not know how much this may cost and that is why I did not decline service. It was not until afterwards when I shared with some people what I spent that I was told I may have been taken advantage of and called around. Had I of known better, I would have thanked your plumber for his time and sent him on his way. I also acknowledge that my service call was on a Saturday which warrants an added surcharge. Next time I know yo ask for an itemized estimate that explains all charges and fees before I accept service. I thank you for this lesson. I would again like to reiterate that Jordan was very polite and performed a quality install of the disposal. Unfortunately for myself I was desperate to have my kitchen sink leak fixed on a Saturday afternoon and because of that I believe I was taken advantage of. The plumbing company I normally use was unavailable so I called CalTek. When Jordan got to the house I was quoted $610 to replace the garbage disposal which included a $40 first time customer discount. It was not until after the work was done that I was told by multiple people that I was bamboozled with that price, so I started doing some research. The garbage disposal used can be found at Costco for $99. Now I understand that a Saturday last minute call may warrant an "emergency fee" however I now realize that $500 for labor is absolutely ridiculous. I called the company I normally use and asked them for an approximate charge to replace a disposal on a Saturday and they said $285 with the disposal included. I should have just ordered take out over the weekend and waited until Monday when my regular company was available. Shame on me. The only reason I gave two stars is because Jordan was polite and did a good job installing the disposal. It is very unfortunate to feel taken advantage of because I was unaware of the costs and desperate. read more

Had them come out to my moms house to check out a clog on January 11th. Fixed the problem (clogged pipe just outside the house) but drained the raw sewage out on the ground all on the side of the house. Only discovered it when I went outside the next day and smelled a horrible smell. Didn't mention anything about the spill, just said it was fixed and left. read more

UPDATE: After posting this, Iris called and apologized for the miscommunication. They accepted the credit card as payment. The communication to the customer still needs work, but the professionalism displayed and accepting the payment method as originally agreed, gives them one more star. (and I might use them again). ------------------------ Needed the entire lateral sewer line between the house and street replaced. Called 3 different places to get quotes. Caltek came in at the middle and Jesus seemed really nice. Since this is major work, it's not cheap. Caltek neglected the mention a few things and lied about something big. They don't currently have a license. They're "in process" whatever that means. Because of this, they aren't licensed to dig up the street, and sent another company to come out and look at the problem. However, Caltek didn't bother to tell us this and that someone was coming, so we weren't home. The other company showed up and was not happy no one was there. Next, someone was supposed to call on Thursday to confirm work start on either Friday or Monday. Guess what? No one ever did. We found out they were coming Friday when we heard a loud noise outside the house at 7:15. My neighbor said they were actually on-site at 6:30AM. They also didn't mention they'd be destroying bushes, although "not respsonsible for landscape damage" was written nearly illegibly in the contract. It would have been nice if they'd mentioned it when talking to us. Before all this work started, called the office and spoke to Iris to verify they'd take a credit card and was told no problem. When Jesus showed up to collect the funds, he said he needed a check. The credit card fees were too high. Then he offered to take my credit card if *I* paid the fees which was 5% of the cost of the job. Why do *I* have to pay for _your_ cost of doing business? This bait and switch about payment is ridiculous and has left an extremely bad taste. Did the work get done? Yes. Were they professional? Mostly. Would I recommend them? Absolutely not. read more

Where do I begin....My garbage disposal went out and we tried replacing on our own due to it leaking. To my surprise my husband called this company on Thumbtack and they accepted right away. Once they arrived, they quoted over 700.00 to fix and replace the disposal along with the faucet. We had 2 options (faucets to pick from) both looked flimsy. However, due to the leak we picked one. After install, I noticed how cheap the faucet was but decided to deal with it. After 4 months, I decided no way, and it was faulty unit. I was told there was 1 year warranty...umm not, it was 70 days on the install and backed up by email by the company. To make a long story short, we decided to ask for a install on a better quality unit and was quoted 250.00 with discounts included. My husband was not to happy seeing they where the ones who did the install and saw the issue after Rudy came back and understood I had to push the handle down hard just for the water to shut off. It would not last another 3 months. They said, call the manufacturer! Anyway, I found another contractor that treated my house like his own and was willing to do the install for 140.00. I have a new plumber for life. Someone, I can trust and not just another number. I believe now with patience and time, my new plumber would have did the first install under 500.00 bucks. My point, they charged me over 700 bucks for a poor quality unit that would not last for a year! The install took them only 40 minutes at most to install. Do the math on that! I would have ran to the store myself to buy a quality one than having them come back out to install a better quality one. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE! Last month I called Caltek because my parents had a water leak coming from the ceiling of the first floor. I wanted someone to go over and see what was going on. When I called they said sure they can get someone over and that the fee was about $180 so I agreed. Once the tech got there my parents explained to the tech (Jesus M.T.) that after using the tub upstairs they noticed water leaking from the ceiling of the downstairs. The tech proceeded to tell them that they should call the insurance and go through them because it would cost about $500 to start ripping apart the drywall to "see" where the leak is coming from and THEN more money to repair the issue and the drywall. Jesus never went upstairs, never looked at the tub, never tried to duplicate the problem. Simply just stared at the ceiling and said "yup there is a leak and it's a lot of money". My parents declined any repair. The next day my dad calls me and duplicates the issue by filing the upstairs tub with a little bit of water. Called Caltek again because I was at work and disappointed with the outcome of the previous visit. I thought they would send someone else more qualified unfortunately they sent the same guy and he had the same response. This time I spoke to him and asked what the $180 fee was for and he said just to get him in uniform and at my parents door step. At this point, I told him never mind we'll fix it ourselves, thank you. After work I went to go check it out myself and will a single cup of water found that the drain from the tub has a small opening between the gasket and the tub and water was leaking from there. Unbelievable. I could not believe this guy couldn't go upstairs and simply just look at the tub to find the root of the problem. It was a simple fix and definitely not a "$500+" repair. Either Caltech tried to scam my parents out of more money or they just hire techs that are too lazy to do their job. read more
