Sooooo fluffy!! Alpaca and Angora bunnies oh my! My Little Sister (Big Brother Big Sister) had a birthday blast enjoying all the bunny cuddles and alpaca hugs. She was so excited as she had never seen an alpaca in real life before, and suddenly she was hands on feeding babies and moms!! She was soooo excited! So, many thanks to Padma who made our experience so special, and Sassy Girl, Lola and the other alpaca friends we made, and Snow White the bunny and her fluffy pals too. Padma showed us how to refine the fleece and spin it and we had a go at carding too, and she answered all my questions with ease. It was fascinating to find out more about alpaca....did you know they only give birth during the day, usually in the morning ? Easy to book online, especially with Kamaaina rates being honored, easy to find even though you are venturing into someone's driveway, park and walk a few steps to the alpaca so good for children and elderly/disabled, a small gift shop selling beautiful gifts is right there, compact, cute and incredibly fun. We took a day trip to Maui and I had the brilliant idea of visiting Maui Alpaca. I booked it online and the instructions to get to their location were quite easy (also thanks to the cute alpaca signage!) Our session included a bit of history, introduction to the lady alpacas including feeding them and taking pictures. The alpaca fellas were elsewhere on the farm. You also get to visit their little Angora bunny farm and sit with the ever so fluffy bunnies. Finally, before visiting their cute shop, they teach you a little thing or two about the different types of yarn. All that in an hour. So glad we booked Maui Alpaca. Most memorable experience ever! Highly recommended when visiting Maui! Who knew visiting an alpaca farm would be on your Maui must-do list. The visit is only about an hour and it may be short but you do so much in such a short time that time flies by. Our guide was fun, knowledgeable, and you can tell she has a genuine love for what she does. I can only imagine how many times she's shared this tour but every time she does it's like the first time. You can also tell that the alpacas really do love her which is a great sign that they're treated with respect and have a great life. Did you know Alpacas can actually remember you? Getting to feed, pet, and hang out with alpacas was great and don't get me wrong, I thought the extra stuff would be boring but I thought it was really interesting learning about how the fur is made into yarn and actually seeing it made. I also of course really enjoyed petting the bunnies and just seeing a different side of Hawaii that I didn't think was so important. Lots of opportunities for the kids to hold, cuddle, and feed the alpacas and learn a bit along the way! Alpacas on Maui?! Yes, yes, and yes. What an absolutely, cute little farm that was a joy to visit a few weeks ago! They are located in Kula, Maui in a beautiful neighborhood that I had no idea existed even though I've passed it so many times in my life, lol. I made a reservation via email as they were hosting a special event and promptly received a confirmation. Be sure to read the directions they provide on your confirmation and you'll easily find your destination. Upon arriving to the farm, we parked in the grassy area next to the little shed. There was already an alpaca waiting to greet us and we had the perfect photo op immediately upon arrival. We walked towards the fenced in area where the herd of alpacas were. Our guide taught us about alpacas and told us their story. We were given food to feed the alpacas and were allowed to pet them. There was also a brand new baby alpaca. I needed a second to gather myself and contain my excitement, lol. It was SO cute. I wanted to pet it so badly and the owner tried to get it to come, but she just wanted her mama. Haha. I appreciated the effort though! After that, we moved over to the rabbit enclosure and learned about their angora rabbits and were able to pet them as well. It was pretty cool seeing them in their burrows and watch them hop around. We then were taken through a demonstration of how they turn the alpaca wool into yarn and were able to touch and feel the different types of yarn from alpaca, to llama, to rabbit. We also had a fun Q&A portion where everyone got to win small prizes. All in all, it was a nice day at the farm and we had fun seeing the alpacas. It's a unique activity to enjoy with family and friends. Their gift shop is also super cute. It's a little pricey, but truly, raising these alpacas are a labor of love and after learning about them, you can see why it's pricey! Definitely visit if you can, especially during the month of September where kama'aina can get 50% off. read more

This was such a great experience! Erin was super friendly and educated on all things alpaca and angora bunny. She had so much information to share in a fun, entertaining way for both adults and kids. They have a little shop w yarn and gifts from their wool. So fun having wool from an animal we know by name. Highly recommend them! Side note: their outhouse was adorable! GET UP CLOSE WITH ALPACAS AND ANGORA BUNNIES. My wife knits and this was a must-visit for her since they have a giftshop that sells alpaca made goods and yarn. Location is upcountry but the road is very easy to drive on with only a short dirt road and small hill to climb once you turn into the actual farm, you park near the porta potty and farming equipment and then walk down. The visit starts right away with meeting and feeding the alpacas, the owner and staff clearly are passionate about animals and the ground are well maintained and each Alpaca is named with distinct personalities. One of them was a rescue and it was sad to see how scared it was of humans. The others aren't so shy and will come right up to you and gently eat from the bowl, they will also eat from your hands but ask staff first if its OK. The kids loved feeding and were absolute smiles the entire time. After this you can see HUGE and furry Angora rabbits, they'll let you take them in your lap and pet them. We got to process the fleece into yarn using simple mechanical machines that "poofed" the fleece, separated them into strands, and then a spinning wheel to turn it into yarn. My wife was super proud she was called a "natural" at spinning. The giftshop has yarn made from some of the alpacas you just met! read more

While planning activities for a Maui trip, I came across Maui Alpaca, an 8 acre Alpaca Farm estate located in Makawao, Maui. My friends love animals, so I knew they would love to visit and see these super cute animals in person. The farm offers a few variations of tours including a picnic and an upcoming trekking tour where you can take an alpaca for a walk on the slopes of Haleakala! We chose the daily farm visit which is a walking tour to meet and learn about the alpaca and angora rabbits. The tour also included feeding the alpaca and lots of cuddle time with the animals. We also received a fiber and spinning demonstration and got to try our hand (and foot) using a manual spinning wheel. It was not easy, but fun to experience. If you're coming to Yelp to find out if Maui Alpaca is a good place to visit--let me just tell you YOU NEED TO COME HERE. Once I heard that you can have a picnic with the Alpacas, I was sold. Upon arrival, we were able to park very close to the area we had our picnic, which was nice because we forgot a couple things in the car and had to go back and forth. Erin, our tour guide/hostess, greeted us with a big smile and warm energy. We were allowed to wash our hands at a sink by the picnic table before sitting down to enjoy our meal. My friend and I both chose the turkey option for our sandwiches and it was delicious. There were different chips to choose from and Nori as well. A bowl of fresh fruit and lemonade really hit the spot on a warm day. Erin put out some hay near the fence our table was by so that the Alpacas would join us for lunch. It was so cute to see them all munching next to each other. After eating, we were each given bowls full of grain for feeding the Alpacas. We went into the large gated area where they roam freely. The older ones are more used to people, so they weren't afraid to approach us for food. The babies took a bit longer to warm up, but they all eventually came to hang out with us. They were all very well behaved and some even loved being pet. After playing with the Alpacas, we moved on to the Angora rabbit area. Erin had us sit down and placed a rabbit in our arms. They are sooo soft! We learned a bit about them too. Super glad this was part of the experience too. Finally, Erin showed us how they use the rabbit fur and alpaca fleece (from grooming sessions) to spin their own yarn. We got to try an actual old fashioned spinning wheel (yes, like the one from Sleeping Beauty). Super interesting and glad I got to try! By the way, Erin was just lovely. She taught us so much about the Alpacas and was very knowledgeable and able to answer any questions we had. She really made the whole experience so wonderful. She took tons of photos of my friend and I feeding the Alpacas in action, which I totally appreciate! I will definitely be back with my family one day! This experience was worth every penny. Wow! What an awesome experience this was. We celebrated my daughters 3rd bday. Erin and Stacey did a phenomenal job, you can tell there's love and passion in what they do. My daughter felt special and heard. The picnic was lovely. The sandwiches were first class as well as the snacks, fruit, desserts and drinks. The tour itself was very informative we learned so much about alpacas and the Angora bunnies. We got to feed, pet and walk the alpacas. Oh my gosh. Where do I even start!!???!? I heard of Maui Alpaca (I don't recall how) but I always thought it was a farm near my house that I drove past every day. I literally drive past a farm with alpacas at least twice a day. Apparently this is not a public farm and also not maui Alpaca. Maui alpaca is located in the subdivision Kula 200 across from the Pukalani longs/CVS kulamalu center. It's pretty easy to find. The farm is by reservation only but it was extremely easy to get our reservation. We didn't have to book it that far in advance. Parking is convenient and on a dirt lot. The tour we did was an hour tour that started at 10am. First we got to feed and interact with the alpacas and we were lucky enough to see babies too!!!! If you time it right, there are baby alpacas in a different area. Everyone got food to feed them and you're allowed to take pictures. They're pretty social (some more than others), and like to be pet (gently). There were only two staff members and they were AMAZING!! (Shoot I didn't get their names). They treat you like family, are great with kids and are soooo knowledgeable. After the alpacas, we got to meet the angora bunnies in their hutch and play area. Depending on the time of day and the rabbit... you might be able to hold them, if not, definitely pet them. At the end of the tour they show you how they make yarn and there is a cute little sustainable gift shop with local products from the farm. I would definitely send people here and go again!!! read more
