We decided to venture out beyond Destin and do some exploring -- and that's when we stumbled on Maui Bus Stop in Fort Walton Beach. So glad we did. The loco moco was great, the teriyaki steak was smoky, well seasoned, and tender, exactly what you want. The mac salad side was creamy and just a little sweet, a perfect complement. And the prices? $10 for a loco moco is absolutely insane in the best way possible. Worth the short drive from Destin. Tried Maui Bus Stop and honestly was very disappointed. The small plate came with 2 scoop of rice and steak, but the steak was super dry, burnt, and tough. Spam musubi falling apart quick when my girl picked it up (it should stay together until you bite that sh*) The smothered sauce tasted like mostly soy sauce mixed with cornstarch, and too sweet.. poured over the meat. The rice and musubi were bland and not seasoned at all, and the overall taste was very plain. The BBQ/teriyaki chicken was also burnt and cold when served. To make it worse, the portion size was VERY small for over $12. The quality, portion size, and taste did not match the charge at all. Tasty Hawaiian food. Simple and to the point. I enjoyed how the kalua pork tasted. I wasn't super "wow-ed" about anything here, but it wasn't bad at all. I had a decent lunch! Just as I mentioned in my first review several years ago... Maui Bus Stop is as close to a trip to the islands as you can get (food wise) without actually traveling 4327 miles to the real deal. Selections here are slightly limited if you're looking for a full service restaurant or lunch stop. However, the foods are absolutely spot on for plate lunch offerings in both taste and style. Over these years, I've tried all of the things that are offered here. The meats have remained consistent, although I found today's Kalua pig to be a little salty. The Shoyu chicken was tender and very flavorful; it also had a nice char and a smoky flavor that I found to be pleasant and authentic. The Loco Moco is always a very filling, treat with brown gravy, adding its distinct savory accent to it all. I thought today's sides were a little skimpier than the past - perhaps 1/3 cup instead of a half cup+ each? OR...Maybe my appetite was bigger than I realized and my estimates were off. Regardless, good sides, all around! Very prompt and polite service with a smile takes me home to the islands each time I visit. read more

I usually do not ever like teriyaki flavored proteins, but this one HITS DIFFERENT! The chicken is marinated beautifully and so juicy. I especially love it when the extra glaze pours into the rice and leafy greens. Dude, so freaking good. They have great portion sizes at an affordable price point!!! Maui Bus Stop is a definitely a go to place when we want take outs. I would get their regular and my husband would get da'bus. I like to get chicken and steak or sometime switch the steak for the pork. My husband would do chicken and steak. The service was not too bad. We usually just DoorDash, especially when our baby was a newborn. It's a cute spot to hang out and eat, but we just take it home or DoorDash since we have the little one. read more

I arrived to the restaurant right when they opened. Place was clean and service was fast and friendly. Food was hot and very tasty if you don't mind sweet. I ordered the regular with the chicken and beef, and macaroni salad as my side. Both the chicken and the beef were very tender. Rice was good too. Definitely a good bang for your buck. After a long flight from Virginia myself and the family decided to try this local jaunt since having traveled to Hawaii for authentic food we decided to see how close they could come, and they made a valid case for authenticity . But the Mac salad was more sweet lacking tanginess, the flavor on the cabbage was ok but it is traditionally shredding on the bottom the steak needed the garlic butter flavor present and the teriyaki chicken was cooked well but there is a marination process which we could tell immediately but all in all it was ok. After another disappointing visit at Pounder's, I thought I'd see what other Hawaiian Cuisine northern Florida has to offer. Maui Bus Stop appeared on my map while visiting Fort Walton Beach. It's only about 5 minutes from the Pier. The prices were fantastic! Our food came out fast and fresh, and we seated ourselves outside to enjoy the rest of the evening. My party of 4 loved the food, even in comparison to the (over)hyped Pounder's Grill our coworkers frequent. I decided to swap out the rice for cabbage on my 2 meat plate. I was expecting the usual shredded cabbage, but the whole leaves were a nice surprise. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The kalua pig though, was my favorite. One of my gripes about the hawaiian restaurants out here is that they don't have self serve sauce, but my meal didn't need any. Everything was moist and well seasoned. The spam musubi was interesting. I'm not used to the sauce being on top of the spam, usually it's between the spam and rice. It was decent though, and the rice was fresh and soft. I'm not a fan of their macaroni salad. I bought some just to try, but it tastes like slaw dressing. I like my macaroni salad made with mayo, preferably kewpie. No biggie though. I know others probably prefer this. The meats alone will be a craving for a while. Very good. read more
