If you get referred to Dr. Zachary Dodson's office at Maui Endodontics, just know that you're in good hands! I had to get a root canal and was referred by the lovely Dr. Lisa Shitamoto so I trusted her referral choice. The staff at Maui Endodontics were great starting with Danielle on the phones getting me scheduled in and rescheduled several times later but was super friendly at every interaction. She was just as nice in person! I think it was Kelly and another girl who assisted Dr. Dodson but I cannot remember their names, they were equally as great. Dr. Dodson, as mentioned in several other reviews made it a point to go over the procedures and what to expect while doing several checks to make sure I was ok and not in pain. He even apologized for the delay but I only waited a whole 5 minutes or so. Not unusual for Dr's offices but I loved that he cared about every patients' time. The root canal was super easy and it was my first one so I didn't know what to expect but it was quicker than I expected and recovery was easy. Overall, I am super happy with my experience and hopefully I don't have to go back for anymore bad teeth haha but I know it'll be a positive experience! Highly recommended. read more

It pains me to leave a bad review, but his lack of skill caused a minor issue to balloon into needing a root canal, multiple rounds of antibiotics, and now I have to go to Oahu to fix my tooth. That was my first root canal, and (I couldn't believe it) one of the easiest (dare I say pleasant) dental experiences of my life, and I'm 53. Seriously. I couldn't be more pleased. I've had *cleanings* far more uncomfortable than that. I was in agony... came in for a consultation at 2:30 (tooth-hurty, I kid you not ) and they were able to squeeze me in at the end of the day. I was pain free and driving home with a smile on half my face lol before I could even process what just happened. Dr Zach and his staff were refreshing. His skill and experience were evident, and his pleasant demeanor (and the courtesy with which he treats his staff) was a welcome bonus. They are a highly functional team. There are not enough kind words to say about Dr. Zachary Dodson and his amazing team. To preface my review, let me just start by saying that I am not a dentist' ideal patient. I have an extreme fear of having dental procedures done due to a poor and painful prior root canal (not done by Dr. Dodson). After sharing my fears, anxiety and concern with Dr. Dodson and his team, they immediately made me feel heard, validated and calmed my nerves to the best of their ability. They are very professional, caring and patient. They talked me through every step of the procedure, they made sure to check in with me often to make sure I was pain free and completely numb. Dr. Dodson is very efficient with time, I felt like I was only sitting in his chair for 20mins! That is not to be confused with him rushing the process, it's exactly the opposite when with them..they check, double and triple check to make sure the work is done well! Even though I thought I had calmed my nerves before my appointment, I wound-up crying in the dentist's chair before everything started. I even apologized for being a 'baby' because that is how I felt. I couldn't believe I had that much fear that I would start crying. It could have been embarrassing, but Jas and Dr. Dodson were so kind and patient. They calmed all my fears and talked me through everything, and I mean EVERYTHING including the "pre-numbing" BEFORE the actual needles. I felt virtually NOTHING the ENTIRE TIME!! (Now almost 24hrs later - and I have experienced no pain or swelling.) I went from being tense, ready at ANY moment to raise my hand because of pain, to totally almost sleeping. In fact I probably would have fallen asleep if Dodson wasn't constantly checking how I felt, or verbalizing the pressure I would feel, or the sounds I would hear. I marvelled at his constant checking-in with me, to make sure I was ok. 2.5 Hours at dentist!! But the actual root canal only took like 20-30 min (or at least it felt that way)!!! That's how patient & caring they were!!! God-Willing, I will never go to ANY other dentist for endodonic care. And all of a sudden my back was moving. A MASSAGING DENTAL CHAIR!!!! She giggled and let me know all of the chairs installed are massage chairs. A perfect way to calm a body prior dental work! I told Doc, "if he could do cleaning and not just specialty dental work so I can come back twice a year for cleaning!" All the equipment is high tech. Amazing investments!! read more

Well folks the reviews and stars don't lie. If I could give more stars I would. Yes, Dr. Dodson and we mustn't forget the office staff are as good as they say. I've lived in Maui most of my life until I moved to Las Vegas and come back several times a year to help my family and maintain my home here. On my current visit I started to get a really bad toothache which I expected might happen because my endodontist in Vegas said I need a root canal or a tooth pulled, but decided to wait until I got back. Long story short I needed a emergency root canal they took me in the next day and did an outstanding job! Oh, did I mention that the tooth that needed the root canal was NOT the one I thought needed one? Yep the dentist in Vegas was wrong! Dr. Dodson found the correct tooth! From the front desk to the (massaging) treatment chair, Dr. Dodson and his lovely staff make you feel welcome, comfortable and secure that you are in excellent hands. The both times I have seen Dr. Dodson -once for a root canal evaluation and once for an emergency- I experienced tremendous care and support. He has the rare gift of really listening to his patients and carefully and thoroughly explaining all treatment possibilities so you feel confident and clear about the procedures. Dr. Dodson was born and raised here on Maui to a dentist father and dental hygienist mother, so it seems serving Maui with the highest quality endodontic care is in his blood! There is something to be said about generational professions. Sometimes it doesn't work out and a bitter descendent is at best zombie-walking through a profession he or she feels shoe-horned into, and then there are times when it seems something magical has happened in the DNA and the kid just gets it, no questions asked, and reaches ever further heights in the field. I've never had any experience with his father, but if his son is lecturing internationally and nationally and faculty of multiple dental schools, he must've been doing something right, and Dr. Zachary Dodson clearly has a lot of drive and passion to offer the absolute best dental care he can. During my appointment, he paid the utmost respect to my wishes, even when it could have been interpreted as due to ignorance on my part. He was nothing but respectful, kind and patient. Did I mention he was seeing me on a lunch break due to my emergency situation (chunks falling out of multiple teeth!). His entire team was wonderful as well. This is one of these experiences where you just say Wow! Came to doctor Dodson for a root canal, was referred by a local dentist on Maui. The overall experience was great. Doctor Dodson is a true professional, informed me about the procedure, cost, recovery. He is on top of his game, very well trained, walked me through every step of what he was doing and what to expect; very delicate, which is important given the nature of root canal procedure. Having high anxiety and never having a root canal procedure done I was a wreck! However, Dr. Dodson and his staff were caring, professional and knowledgeable which eased my nervousness. My 21-year-old friend Josh had just moved to Maui to go to college. He woke up one Friday morning with a blazing, painful wisdom tooth and he was miserable. Josh did not want a weekend full of pain. New to the island, Josh had not yet established any medical care relationships. I called Dr. Dodson's office and explained that Josh was in some terrible pain. They arranged their appointment schedule to fit Josh in that morning. Upon examination, Dr. Dodson advised Josh that the wisdom tooth needed to be removed and he could do the procedure immediately. Josh's experience with dentistry was limited to the occasional dental cleaning. Oral surgery worried Josh and his apprehension was clearly evident to Dr. Dodson and his staff. Dr. Dodson explained the procedure in step-by-step, reassuring detail for Josh. Notably nervous, Josh agreed to the oral surgery. I went in to my regular dentist for emergency work, she ended up being to busy to take care of me and referred me to dr Zachary Dodson, at first I was nervous because I have been getting work done with my regular dentist going on 10 years +. But the care I received once I get there was amazing!! They were very thorough and walked me through all the steps of the procedure and made me feel very comfortable, once the root canal got started the dr noticed that my gums had grown in to the cavity and had to do gum surgery witch he just did it and didn't charge me for it! With everything going on in the world and for him not to know my financial situation I don't think he understands how much that meant to me! All said and done this was the quickest root canal I have ever had! Also his assistant was top notch, I look forward to going back and getting my other issues resolved.
