I had this place called "Maui Manjookies" bookmarked on my places to visit on Maui, but ever since 2020, I stopped commuting to Maui on a weekly basis, so now when I do go to Maui for work, it's a rarity. Sold at a store called - "Mikes Mini Mart" in Kahului, you can get an array of different types of Manjookies. I was also told that Pukalani Superette also carries the Manjookies, but truthfully, I've never noticed the Manjookies, probably because I was sidetracked by their Chili Frrrrrrried Chicken, everytime I go to Pukalani Superette! Lol! Today, I finally got my Manjookie fix as one of my good friends - Nathan Y. brought me back a omiyage gift pack of Manjookies that consisted of - Lilikoi Pineapple, Strawberry, Matacha, Blueberry, Ube, & Cranberry Guava. What can I say about da Manjookies??? It is as advertised! The Manjookies have a different texture from traditional manju, & their unique fillings are not too sweet. I didn't eat all six Manjookies by myself, as I shared it with my ohana. I can see why folks would dig this treat, as it's like a hybrid of a manju & cookie! Great products, but their hours of operation has changed. You can always visit Tamuras for some goodies. It won't be everything, but it something to try. Twice we went and unfortunately no luck. First time we went Saturday and there was a sign they would return at 4pm by that never happened, we waited 15 min past. Went on Monday in August 2025 where there new hours took in effect, and it wasn't open. Visit their IG page. read more

These are incredibly delicious - a buttery pastry/cookie outside and a slightly chewy, fruity interior. They have become my only Maui omiyage since I first came across them a few years ago. While at the Food and New Products Show I ran into a friend who recommended the manjookie. The name is a play on Japanese manju and cookie. The price is a little high at $12.50 for 5 but they are good! I got the lilikoi-pineapple and they reminded me of Taiwanese pineapple cakes. The dough was buttery tasting and nice filling without being too sweet. They have other flavors I want to try now that I know they are good and worth the price haha. Heard about Maui style Manju but can only find regular Manju where I am. A friend was going to Maui and I asked her to stop by this place if she was in the area. She was so sweet and went out of her way to bring me some. She brought back 2 flavors, the red bean and the ube. I believe the ube was actually Okinawan sweet potato from the taste, which I actually prefer. The "ube" cookie was buttery and the filling was just the right sweetness and softness. The red bean wasn't to my taste. The cookie was still buttery but the red bean was bland, crumbly and hard. Not sure if it was an off day for that flavor, but one of these days if I go to Maui, I'll have to go myself and compare. read more

I'm all for supporting local but I have my limits. Their prices are pretty ridiculous for what you get. I understand Maui prices are going to be a little higher and especially for specialty items but brahhhhh one "little" manjookie is over tree dollas. Bag of 5 is $12 something. And for those prices you'd think you'd get a little more cheery customer service. Maybe it was just the end of aunties long day but still. They are located in the industrial area of Kahului. There's a few parking stalls available. It's a tiny little shop, seems to be local female owned. They have great snacks/omiyage! Their baked manju is a combo manju/cookie so the pastry is different from the usual baked manju and is delicious. Hence the name manjookie. Love the chewier texture. They give samples so you can try for yourself. You can purchase their different flavors individually wrapped so you can give give an assortment, or in a bag of 5 of one flavor. Their cookies are yummy, too. Loved the Cranberry-Guava Manjookie flavor the best, along with the peanut butter cookies. But ALL were great. The Lilikoi-Pineapple is very "Hawaii" If you are taking to the mainland. It must be relatively new because even my Maui friends didn't know about it when I mentioned the place. Hours may vary so call to be sure they are open before you go. When we went, the lady (owner's mom) was there from the morning but said she was going back to school (teacher?) in a few days so the store would only be open in the afternoons. My cousin shared these manjookies when we recently visited Maui. She wasn't sure that we would like them, but she had nothing to worry about! I got home to Oahu and promptly ordered some online. We enjoyed their cookies, too, but the manjookies are unique. I called and I think I spoke to the owner, who was very friendly and helpful, and my order was delivered in no time! They aren't cheap, but you can tell they use quality ingredients and these are certainly nice for a treat or for omiyage. read more

Only to find to our disappointment that the Manjookie with the black bean bag was old. It definitely was not fresh with the black bean filling very dry color. What exactly is a "manjookie"? It's a hybrid word combining the Japanese pastry "manju" and "cookie". For those that don't know, a manju is a small, circular-shaped pastry that has a soft cookie-like exterior, hollow in the center and traditionally filled with mashed azuki or lima beans. Here, they take it a step further with fruit fillings of strawberry, cranberry, coconut, lilikoi pineapple, guava apricot, strawberry lilikoi, strawberry guava and sweet potato. While I have yet to try them, we picked up a box for a family friend in Oregon who was requesting some. They aren't sold individually but come in a small box/bag for around $8.00 that yields about six pieces. Shipping is available. They also sell traditional cookies in a variety of flavors. I tried a sample of their Shortbread Macadamia Nut and it was good! Very buttery with a light crunch. The bags sell for around $9.00. THE STORE: The goods are sold inside of the Mike's Mini Mart which is directly across the street from Maui Toyota & Del's Farm Supply. Even though it's a "mini mart", I didn't see any convenience store retail sans for a soft drink refrigerator. The store is clean and well-organized. Be sure to check out the cookie samples at the checkout counter. SERVICE: We were greeted as we entered and offered assistance from a friendly gal who I presume was the owner. Their cookies are hella good! I didnt get to try them all, but I really liked the coffee cookies and the strawberry lilikoi pineapple ones. The fruit ones go great with tea. They aren't cheap but it is definitely a different type of cookie I've ever had. They have samples in the store. Forget those other hawaiian cookies from the chain store. These are better souvenir gifts from Maui! Everything was self explanatory. There wasn't too much interaction with the lady behind the counter. There was a cute paper foil designed shopping bag they offered if you spent $60! $60 for a gift bag?! (You get a real bag if you spend $60 at the cosmetic counter, just saying!) Heck, I love anything Peanut Butter and loved the Crunchy Peanut Cookies as well. Very convenient location, near Maui Toyota, but keep in mind of their business hours and they are closed on Sunday's. You can get the manjookie and cookies at Pukalani Superette and the airport, but your selections will be limited. They really need to update their Yelp hours and post signs at their Kahului location that the store is closed and not operating. We attempted 3 times, thinking that the store was just closed early because the door actually has one of those clock signs that states will return at a certain time. Finally I saw the announcement on their website that the storefront is closed. We also went to the store and market mentioned to try to find the Maui Manjookies products, but none of them carries the lilikoi pineapple manjookie. We were told to check back, but every time we went back to Tamura's Market or the Ma'alaea General Store Café & Deli, it was mostly cookies and other products. Manjoo or Manju. Little pastries filled with yummy sweet bean pastes or jams. The pastries themselves are dry and crumbly. Their fillings really hold them together. Lilikoi Pineapple and Purple Sweet Potato were my favorites! I tried to save some to bring home for family to try but they got pretty squished in transportation back to CA. Sad. I went to Maui on a day trip from Oahu a few days ago and was looking for manju to take back home. I vaguely remember a place decades ago in Wailuku where I drove near the water which was on my right and the manju place would be farther up on the left - could have been Home Maid Bakery, it was so long ago. Anyway, I didn't go there and ended up at Maui Manjookies. I figured I'd give it a try. The lady was very helpful. It was only then when I looked at the manjookies and realized it was manju and cookie put together. I bought a bag each of the azuki bean and the lilikoi-pineapple. Gave the azuki to my son's family and I kept the lilikoi-pineapple. To me, the lilikoi-pineapple is to die for. They were pretty pricey at two bags for $20 but I figured why not. Still got the flakiness of the manju but filled with delicious lilikoi and pineapple. Luckily, there are a few places on Oahu that sell Manjookies - I just hope they have the lilikoi-pineapple. read more

The owners mom greeted us and said if we wanted to try anything she had samples to provide. Haaaaaaaah??!!! Samples???!!! But ofcourse we'll take samples. LOL. *BEWARE* accepting samples will make u buy more then ur supposed to. And it will make u open these cute little bagged up cookies while driving to ur next destination making u turn back around and buy more to bring home again. (I'm not kidding). I went twice in one day. ‍ They also have cookies and carry those thin beef jerkies and dehydrated fruits. Let me start by saying CONGRATS on a fabulous product!! We stopped by to visit with Jannelle and Momi and they unveiled the Manjookie baked goods!! The packaging/logo is eye catching, which reflect the quality, flavor and yumminess of the baked goods contained within, you can taste the LOVE ! We all agree, the outer baked cookie vs fried style has a much better flavor and mouth feel/texture - and the inner ononess, what can I say... it leaves you speechless. We were so impressed with this that we sent off a few packages to our parents on the Big Island - one bite and they are hooked! The ate both packages within a few days - loved them HA!!! So of course we ordered one package of each flavor to be shipped to them! When we returned home to Florida we sparingly shared our goodies. My sister couldn't get enough of them. She even hid her cookies from her family so she would have a chance to enjoy the Manjookies we gave her. Yes, she did bring them out a few days later - only because I told her I was placing an order for more - so she order ten packages with a variety of different fillings !! She also shared HALF a cookie with her good friend who will be visiting Maui in December. Her friend has made Mike's Mini Mart aka.. "Manjookie Mania" mart a destination during her vacation. As for us - we like to heat them up a little in the micro or even better - in the toaster oven !! OOOOooo - the smell, 'fresh' baked Manjookies! Now, I've only been raving about the Manjookies - but let me tell you about the cookies, yes, cookies! Choco chip and Corn Flakes are the flavors we took home with us. OMG - I should have picked up more!!! I love crisp, crunchy and flakey cookies. The cornflake cookie tasted like I was eating a toffee or toasted caramel cookie - YUM!!! The choco chip has just enough chips to accent the flavor of the cookie, not overwhelming it! We shared a baked manapua (bun filled with sweet BBQ pork) - filling is ono and the outer baked covering is consistent with the 'yumminess' flavor of the Manjookies. WHEW.. Winner!!! When visiting Maui - stop by the store and pick up a few of these wonderful goodies ! And, if you aren't - never fear, you can place an order for them just like we did!! read more

So delicious! Honestly better than regular manju with the flaky texture. This manjookies is literally a shortbread cookie outer layering with the inside filling. Delicious manjookies but way OVER PRICED! $12.00 for 5 manjookies is a bit ridiculous. Also, If you guys are open stay open, and if you leave, turn off the open sign and put a note on the door or something saying be back in a few minutes or some what. I heard the rumors... I tracked it down... I came, I saw, I bought, I ate, it conquered me! I AM OFFICIALLY HOOKED!!! So, I heard this rumor about shortbread. A friend of mine just mentioned shortbread and said something about Mike's Mini Mart. Being a shortbread freak, I decided to check it out. Mike's Mini Mart is located on a side street, Hanamau Street, in Kahului, between Alamaha Street and Hana Highway. Same side street as Maui Toyota and Del's Farm Supply. Parking here, however, is a %@#^&%!!! Although there are a couple of stalls in the warehouse parking area where they are located, depending on what time you go, you may be out of luck. Now, to the good stuff! I walked in and saw a shelf full of what looked like manju. After looking closer, these were labeled as manjookies. Huh?! Apparently this is a mixture of manju and cookies. Several different flavors also, including strawberry, peanut butter, azuki and several more. Some of these manjookies were also dipped in pink chocolate and white chocolate. As I'm browsing, the owner, Janelle, greets me and explains what manjookies are. Such a sweet and gorgeous lady, and the creator of these treats, Janelle explains that it's a different consistency than manju. I also spot the little bags of shortbread cookies, again in different varieties. I choose a bag of oatmeal shortbread cookies and strawberry manjookies, dipped in strawberry colored chocolate, just to try. I also notice they serve hot foods and have their daily lunch specials posted on the wall behind. Hmmm. Manapua? After trying the other 2 new manapua places on Maui and being very disappointed, I was hesitant to try. These manapuas are made by Janelle as well, and although she downplayed it, I must say, the manapua ended up being just as good, if not better than some of the ones I've had in Honolulu! So now I know where to get my manapua fix on Maui, and it's not at those other manapua shops! Ssshhh! Back to manjookie! So I get home and try this new found treat! As I close my eyes and take a bite of this decadent dessert, I can't stop at one bite! The flavor is there! Not overly or underly sweet, but jus' right! The filling was strawberry flavored as well, but I couldn't place my finger on it. So I placed my tongue! Yummy! After all 5 were gone, I moved on to the cookies. After all the cookies were gone, I went back... The sign says they are opened Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sucks! Not opened on weekends! But, still convenient, nonetheless. I had to try more, so I tried the peanut butter flavored manjookie, with the azuki filling. Yes, peanut butter flavored crust! That was delicious as well! Also had to try their homemade Hamburger Steak Plate. At $9.00 each (4 smaller patties with homemade gravy and rice), I have to say this Hamburger Steak was also the best I've had on Maui. Also tried the homemade energy bars. What can I say? I'm hooked, addicted, etc.! If you're tired of the same omiyage to take to Family off island, you gotta go here! Prices will run you around the same as if you went to the other manju or mochi places on the island, but your Family and Friends will definitely love these more!
