I'm sorry to say it but I did not enjoy this . My friend and I purchased standard tickets on Viator for a Wednesday evening show. It was stated that doors opened at 5 (well, more like show seating began at 5) for the program to begin at 5:30. We arrived at 4:45 and were a good ways towards the back of the line already which meant standing in the sun for a bit. The company did email in advance to advise about this and encourage folks to wear sunscreen. Those who purchase preferred tickets (for a decent chunk of change more than the $198 price tag for standard) get seated first so seating for us regular folks began closer to 5:15pm it seemed. Part of what slows down the entry process is that there are photographers taking photos of every group. Later in the evening the staff starts walking around with the photos advising that they can be purchased for $20. The program didn't start in earnest until 7pm, after the sun had set. I brought a light jacket but I was still quite chilly. There are some vendors set up selling things market style and they also had tattoo and flower stations set up. The food was surprisingly good, especially to have been produced for such a large crowd (seemed like there were 300 or so of us). I would have gone for seconds but got full so that was at least worth it. There was also an open bar but the one pina colada I had was, unsurprisingly, very watered down. By the time the program began, I was sleepy and uninterested. It didn't help that we couldn't see much and the performers (who all deserve 5 stars) were often sitting or kneeling. The tidbits I did pick up about Hawaii's history and culture were appreciated but I wish I chose another luau experience overall. Had the food not been great, this would have been 1 or 2 stars.

The Lia here is on the NW side of Maui and is in a beautiful location. The weather that night was beautiful and it was out by the ocean, so the sunset was memorable. We had purchased a preferred ticket, so we were swatted first. We were given an Hawaiian island lei that was beautiful. The music and the show was nice. The musicians and dancers were incredible. The MC was friendly and professional but a little too rehearsed. The food was served buffet style with an incredible selection. There was pork, fish, native macaroni dish, great salads and other sides that were well worth the ticket. The show went into the evening and was also worth the price of the ticket.

Go for the incredible artists! This was our first luau since we attended the Grand Wailea luau 15 years ago. The musicians, narrator and performers were fabulous and gave it all they got! They were skilled, powerful and engaging. My only regret was that I wasn't in the front row and that they didn't perform longer. The evening starts with a gorgeous flower lei and what felt like unlimited drinks - although fairly light on the alcohol. If you need more you can buy it at the bar. Guests definitely will not leave hungry - there is lots of delicious food and 3 different desserts. We loved the location on the water with the sunset, the way they started the show ceremonially with a man delivering a fire torch to Black Rock and how amazing the dancers were. I'm still in awe of their performance!

Save your money, this Luau was a disappointment for all three of my criteria, food, beverage, and entertainment quality. I will start with entertainment quality, at 4:45pm, over 600 people were waiting in line to enter. You get your lai, and then stand in line, first come first sat closest to stage. We were near the back, because I did not estimate this Luau to have 600-700 people. They take the family picture, and wait , that will cost you..... later on. And then you sit and wait, and there are activities.... LOL, sure there are. You can get a tattoo, get a flower in your hair, or visit the few merchants, and buy more, spend more..... Ok, to continue show quality, it's the worst Luau I have ever been to. By far..... 6 total actors, 3 female and 3 male, change Polynesian outfits, and between each act the master of ceremonies either tells jokes or a short story. The dancing did not entertain, the whole family was bored, as well as the other family at our table. Myself and the other Dad looked at each other, and were like, this is $200 per person, are we at wrong show. Sound system, total of two speakers in the front by the stage. The sound at this event was amateur. Ten people to a table, over 70 tables..... the sound felt drowned out by conversations, as people were bored. Wait..... waited 30 minutes in Lua line to be sat, and waited 30 minutes in the buffet line. Food quality... buffet style, it's poor quality seriously, our Hawaiian friends laughed at us. They asked us why we chose the Sheraton Luau? Food was same quality as an Asian all you can eat buffet. Disgusting, I did not partake. Deserts, I'm a spoiled European, but the United States has lost the ability to find or taste quality food. Cheap sheet cakes with frosting and jello on top. This show is an embarrassment to the Hawaiian and Polynesian people. The hotel made over $1 million on one show, if average price is $200, 700 guests, photo sales, cost for vendor booths, and VIP seat sales. After they pay the 30-40% booking commissions, food cosrs..... the Hotel made a huge profit. Which is great, but you gave a shit show fuckers. Therefore why not invest into it this show.... Do not go to this show. Alcoholic beverages, don't laugh. It's gross and it's just pitchers with punch and pina colada. But they are not ice blended, just juice in a cup.... All of us in the pigeon section, were pissed. After spending over $1000 on this show, we needed alcohol to drown our bad decision away. Do not do the Sheraton Luau. I literally suggest to skip walk the beach, eat at Dukes, and chill at a beach bar. Do that for $1000, and it will be a better time than this show.

Our first luau and we thoroughly enjoyed it! The food was delicious and the show was entertaining. We were able to watch the beautiful sunset over the beach as well.

This was my first luau and it was so wonderful. It was recommended to me by a friend so I thought we should go. I paid for the general seating and it was fine. The preferred seating gets first dibs and access to front rows. However, every seat has a great view so it doesn't matter. As you wait in line, the servers come out and offer complimentary drinks. Then come the leis and then the pictures. Before the event starts there are some small group activities that people can participate in to learn a little more about the culture. Then comes dinner! Pulled pork, fried rice, noodles, fish, chicken, salad, bread, yams, etc etc! This all you can eat buffet was really good!!! Desserts are also offered. Then the show kicks off and it is sooo entertaining and fun! I'll be back next time!

Keep in mind there are a lot of courses, so you don't want to stuff yourself and miss something later. - AYCD. I had so many lava flows the waitress was giving me grief (in a joking and welcomed way). - Entertaining performance. There's a story through the whole show and multiple acts, sorta like how Cirque du Soleil does it. It's more culturally educational than flashy. Even my hula-nerd dining companion was impressed. - Locally based, so your money goes into the community and not some hotel conglomerate 2000+ miles away. - Food was plentiful (even before asking for more), with more hits than misses. Not the best food I've had on Maui, but nowhere near the worst. - The view and locale, duh. - All the staff were great, with plenty of aloha. Cons: - Yeah, it's pricey. The way I look at it though is you're paying for the food, the show, AND supporting the local community to keep its rich culture and history alive as well as helping them in a small way recover from the tragic fires. Plus tips are already included. - Wish there was a non-alcoholic price option so the non-drinkers aren't subsidizing the drinkers. - The pre-dinner walk around time was a bit short. You don't really have enough time to stop by every display/event/demo. I know they time the dinner & show with sunset, but maybe open up a little earlier? Etc: - Most people are kinda dressed up (aloha shirts, flowy dresses), but shorts and tees weren't too uncommon. Athletic wear and men's tank tops would probably be out of place. - Veteran discount available.

Tyson was one of the highlights of the night--very soft-spoken, very patient, and super sweet. Our group of nine was seated at one table (even though I had emailed in advance and was told they could not accommodate more than eight at one table), which was a pleasant surprise. , The second highlight was the food. You can tell the food here is high-quality rather than typical buffet-style fare. And even though it wasn't buffet style, there was plenty of food, and if you wanted more, you could simply ask, and they would bring more of whatever you wanted and liked. Keep in mind it is also an open bar, so take that as you will. The third highlight, of course, was the performance. All the performers seemed to love what they did and brought such great energy and style. Each one also showcased their personality through their performances. I will say there are no fire dancers here, but that is because it is not part of their culture, to my understanding. One thing I would note is that our group of nine was between the ages of 23 and 26, and we were definitely the youngest ones there. The age range seemed to skew older, as we did not see any kids or other younger groups like ours. Nonetheless, we had a lot of fun.

Super solid luau at the Ritz Carlton!…read more Staying near Kapalua on our latest visit - I decided to surprise wifey with one of the newer luaus on the island, the Tales of the Kapa Moe! Had to make my reservations a few weeks in advance since the luau is only on Tuesdays and Fridays! Some limited, ah?! Taking place at the Ritz newly renovated Aloha Garden Pavilion, such a sight when you walk in! Welcomed by staff and given a fresh flower lei and a stiff cocktail (or TWO) right away! Now that's what I call the Aloha Spirit...quite literally LOL! -Blue Hawaiian -Kapalua Mai Tai (fave of the night, strong & vibrant!) Before going to your assigned seating in the covered pavilion, you can partake in the Hawaiian cultural activities in the lanai, and get your pictures taken underneath the beautiful garden backdrop! Then when you're ready you get escorted to your table for the luau pre-show! I gotta say - the highlight of the night is the luau dinner, pretty swanky! Before they call you up to the buffet line by table, they bring out the whole roasted pig for showing off as it heads to the display line for service! I noticed though that the pig is not made in an underground imu as is the traditional Hawaiian method - it is cooked in a Caja China, which can also produce succulent meat! The buffet is stacked well, and you can go back as your heart desires! So much to eat: Salads -Hawaiian Chopped Salad -Caesar Salad -Kula Beets with Arugula (for you vegans) -Soba Noodle Salad Entrees -Whole Roasted Pig -Macadamia Nut Crusted Fresh Fish Catch -Westside Huli Huli Chicken -North Shore Oahu Garlic Shrimp Sides -Wok Fired Island Vegetables -Local Molokai Sweet Potatoes -Ginger & Soy Steamed Bok Choy -Garlic Mushroom Fried Rice There's even a Build your own Poke Station with ahi and kimchi tako poke and tons of condiments! AND even a Keiki Menu that includes Fried Chicken Tenders and Mac & Cheese! I know this isn't what folks in ancient Hawaiian times ate, but cheee hooo the food overall is ONO! The Kula Beets with Arugula and Soba Noodle salads were faves! Some crazy flavor combos going there and good starters! Cannot go wrong with a poke bowl with your own fixings as an appetizer as well! The Whole Roasted Pig was nice & moist (especially the belly sections), delicious when served with the mu shu buns, poi, pickled vegetables, and hoisin chili sauce. Like basically an Asian taco! The Macadamia Nut Crusted Fresh Fish was delectable too, delicate fish with their mild Thai coconut curry sauce was very good! The North Shore Oahu Garlic Shrimp was liked as well, so much garlic and lemon butter! And what goes well with protein? Why, a heaping serving of Garlic Mushroom Fried Rice of course! More of a modern meal take on the Hawaiian luau, but I ain't mad! I made sure to eat enough for my ancestors HA! After the buffet dinner, relax, digest and get ready for the show. The Tales of the Kapa Moe! Great local host, makes you get interactive too, work off some of that luau food! The show is a lively depiction of a day in the life of the Hawaiian ancestors, showcasing the different tasks of everyone in the village. Many tales to enlighten your senses: *Koʻi Honua - A story of the creation of the islands *Pele - Goddess of the volcano and its molten lava *Kanehekili - God of thunder bringing forth rain to start growth *Laka - Goddess of the forest and all earthly vegetation *Ka I ka hoe - Audience participation chant lesson *Huakaʻi Hele - Migration of our ancestors from the south pacific *Ka wailele o Honokohau - Acrobat in the form of a waterfall *Ae Kakou - Men dance expressing their love for fish and poi *Lānaʻi - The beauty of Lānaʻi displayed as our women dance in a cloud *Moea awakens - Fire finale representing that the fire of our people its heritage will continue to live and burn strong And while you're enjoying the history, don't forget to grab some desserts: -Mochi Tart (must try!) -Mango Pudding -Mango Cheesecake -Kapalua Bar -Macadamia Chocolate Crunch Cake What an experience of a luau, very nuanced! Especially the fire show at the end, super LIT is an understatement! My only note is that this luau is a bit pricey for the 3 hour dinner & show - about $260 per person for Ohana Seating, and about $316 per person for the Ali'i Premium Seating (right near the front row). But if you're a kama'aina don't despair - let them know and you can get 20% off with valid Hawaii ID! Awesome time for wifey & I at the Tales of the Kapa Moe Luau Show! This was us early celebrating our 15th anniversary! Can't go wrong with this luau at the Ritz! AWWWRIGHT!!

You sit for a while (in the sun, or rain, in our case), before the limited apps come out and the music starts. We went with premium, so we were the first for everything, and that alone was worth the extra $$. But, there was what felt like quite a bit of waiting in the beginning. Once sun went down and the show started it was perfect. The fire at the end was awesome. But honestly, I love all the hula and dances. The host was a little hard to hear, but all good. Overall, definitely a must do. Not sure I'd be a repeat customer, but if you can float it, I think a memorable experience.

The staff were friendly but very busy, and I found myself getting up to look for things like soy sauce and drink refills. There were a few downsides. The host was hard to hear for much of the event, and the fire dancing portion--something my son had been excitedly looking forward to based on the posters--was surprisingly short, which left him a bit let down. The Mai Tai drinks were also extremely sweet and noticeably light on alcohol. Overall, it felt a bit like they were trying to stretch a two-and-a-half-hour show into four hours. Most luaus would end up costing me about $1,000. This one came in right around $700. Still a pricey proposal, but I really wanted the wife and kids to have the experience. I'll start with the food. It was good, but the menu seemed to be missing a couple of items that have been served at every other luau I've ever been to; specifically I'm speaking of poi and lau lau. They served Kalua pork, white rice, green salad, vegetables, fish, and chicken. The venue is an enclosed environment overlooking a boat harbour. I think it functions as a restaurant at lunch time. The show integrates Hawaiian chants and dances to support the talents of unique performers. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see `Ulalena on this particular trip to Maui. I was disappointed but I got over it quick because I actually had to go to Maui Theatre because I had the honor of being one of the judges for the 2015 Miss Maui Scholarship Competition/Pageant. The theatre shares a parking lot with the Maui Outlets along Front Street and the theatre screams `Ulalena right as you walk in with multiple posters that advertise the show. They also had some beautiful paintings on the wall of hula dancers and comfy cushioned chairs with a Hawaiian print design on them. The restrooms were overall clean and spacious. The theatre itself is small compared to others in Hawaii but adequate enough for Lahaina. The Miss Maui pageant however was no small feat because for the first time, they combined the Miss Maui Outstanding Teen and the Mister Maui Scholarship pageant with the competition. All of the contestants were incredibly talented and they put on a fantastic show and competition. I think Maui Theatre was the perfect place to hold the competition and the stage, lighting and sounds complemented the contestants really well. I hope to be able to have the honor of being a judge again and also return to Maui Theatre to watch the renowned `Ulalena.

The location of their instruments makes a difference. It's high above to your right. In fact you will be surrounded by the great accompanying sounds of the show. Clear signage. Odd numbers to your left and even to your right. Door wise. If you have a ticket no need to fall in line as you walk in. Head on straight to the door or the concession area. For picking up your ticket. There are two ways: if the instructions from the hotel is to go to Bubba Gump restaurant; it is right across from it in a KIOSK. That's where the tickets are. Or head to the theater if you are doing the will call. Fall in line. It moves quickly. Enjoy the show!

This came highly recommended, we ll walk over in ten minutes. later: It was excellent and a full house. We were in row 5 of 10. Views just fine. I always get more education going to something like this. i didn't realize the introduction of the guitar to Hawaiian music came from the influence during the ranching era and cowmen from Spain and Mexico that brought music and instruments to the Big Island where Ranching remains to this day. Or that the men's higher pitch or falsetto voice in Hawaiian songs came from singing in churches for what would be a soprano or woman's part. It was a full 2 hour event with A wonderful Hula on some songs. After this, you will not forget the experience. A special time for my landmark # review, 2222.

Led Kapaana was fabulous; a privilege to finally hear him perform in person. Loved the availability to buy merch, meet the artists and take photos with them . Great set up- intimate setting but did not appreciate hate having paid for the general seating seats (row 5 and back, getting there early and sitting in row 5, only to have latecomers sit in row 4 right in front of us when there were available seats... so I'm dropping the review from 5 stars to 3.
