I compared a lot of luaus and did a lot of research before selecting this one. We finally went and here is my breakdown. Overall, I do recommend it, but you must go in knowing that the price is extremely expensive for what you actually get so set your expectations. Location: the location is very easily accessible. You can easily walk from Whalers Village. What we did was hang out and shop around Whalers Village a bit, grab lunch and then we walked over to the Westin. Right next-door inside the Westin is an arcade so if you're going with Kids, you could hit up the arcade first as well. But be aware the arcade is very expensive. A $50 game card lasted my kids under 30 minutes. But it was fun. Arrival time: No need to arrive too early. When we arrived 20 minutes early there was already a long line to get in. But what we find out is that it's not first come first serve. The tables are already assigned to you. So as long as you show up on time, it is OK. With this being said keep in mind the earlier you actually book your tickets the better table you get. We got regular seating and not premium. We were literally one table behind the premium table. So therefore, I don't think it's worth getting premium unless you're booking your tickets last minute. if you can reserve your tickets at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance I think you will get a good enough regular seating table that you won't actually need premium. premium is closer to the stage but for me I was happy with my regular seating and saw the stage just fine. The buffet: come hungry. The buffet had plenty of food and they call up one table at a time so it doesn't get overly crowded. They also had a kids buffet with kids type food such as chicken nuggets, french fries and mac & cheese. I'm not a huge fan of the phase, but I would say that this one was definitely above average. They had a lot of local favorites like pulled pork, sweet potatoes, pineapples, rice, and fish. It's definitely enough to keep you full. They also had a special table for dessert buffets. The drinks: It's open Bar and you can drink as much alcohol as you like. They've a variety of mixed drinks as well as wines and beers. They also have kids drinks and sodas and lemonade. It will also have a coffee section with unlimited coffee and tea and hot drinks. Recommendations: the show is very slow to start. In the beginning it's a lot of sitting around. Yes the bar is open and you can drink but the kids definitely got bored. I went with an 8 and a 12 year-old. What I recommend is bringing sunglasses cause you're sitting in the sun and heat waiting. Perhaps even a hat. And a deck of cards to keep the kids at the table busy. Value: This is the part that gets me. I felt that it's very expensive for what you get. To me the price is outrageous. For regular seating we paid over $550 for two adults two kids. This is a lot of money! Yes, the show is good, but it's not excellent. It starts off very slow, but the end is the best. The fire part is actually the best part. when comparing other luaus I chose this one specifically because I thought my kids would love the fire part and honestly, I think the fire part was the best part of the entire show. The show itself is definitely above average. I would say go if money is not an issue. Let's be real, Hawaii is expensive. And this show is just like everything else - overpriced. Despite a little rain early in the show this was fabulous! Hot tip- premium seating gets you closer to the stage but isn't covered. When it was raining they provided ponchos but I was jealous of the Ohana seating under the roof until the skies cleared. First the show- wow! These are very talented dancers/performers. I was impressed by the range of dances and songs. The live band support was solid, and why I think my husband and son found to be most thrilling was the fire performance at the end. Dude licked and grabbed Fire. Second the food- I'm a vegan and was a little nervous about having enough options but they really had something for everyone. It's pricy but if you can make it work, it was an awesome experience. My kids said it was one of the top highlights of the trip. Buffet was solid. It's a buffet. But the roasted pork was delicious. Drinks were sugary. It's open bar, but man, those drinks are sugary. I had 2 - 1/2 cocktails and that was enough. Service was great. The performers were awesome. They were engaged and working their butts off. They were truly the stars of the show. The one piece of negative feedback: it was so slow to start. You sit for a while (in the sun, or rain, in our case), before the limited apps come out and the music starts. We went with premium, so we were the first for everything, and that alone was worth the extra $$. But, there was what felt like quite a bit of waiting in the beginning. We were a bit torn on whether or not this would be a good show given all the yelp reviews that were all over the map. There are plenty of luaus available and depending on what you are looking for, this one may or may not fit the bill. For example this show is not strictly Hawaiian culture, but Polynesian and talks about the history of those who originally came to Hawaii. More traditional luaus that focus only on Hawaii, don't include the fire dancers. For me, that was the part of the show I wanted. As for our experience. Checkin started sometime before the 5:30 time on the ticket, but the line moved quickly and table assignments were handed out with instructions for how to get to the venue. There we found ourselves in another line but quickly realized this is where the line splits between Ohana seating and premium seating. Our premium seating tickets got us through the line much quicker. At the bar, Mai Tais and non-alcoholic POG juice were at the ready for the crowds to grab and go to their seats, usher by friendly staff. Ohana style snacks were brought to our table - boiled peanuts and fresh edamame and we enjoyed the conversation with the rest of our table along with the musicians providing ambiance with their musical stylings. Fun fact- boiled peanuts are the Hawaiian Super Bowl snack of choice according to one of our hosts. As the show started, several dances and history was shared before the dinner portion and once dinner was to begin, tables were selected to join the line one by one. In addition to the adult buffet, there was a separate kids buffet with more kid-friendly fare like Mac n cheese and chicken nuggets. On the adult side, everything you'd expect from the buffet. My favorite was the poke tuna and the catch of the day but it was all decent. Except for poi. That's not my bag, but you gotta try everything right? Following dinner was the rest of the show. And it did not disappoint. Overall notes: (1) when researching it seemed that either the show OR the food would be spectacular. We wanted a spectacular show with decent food and that's what we got. (2) more traditional Hawaiian shows do not include fire dancers. This one, being more Polynesian did and that was one of the highlights for me. (3) the sound system was not great at all. Music was lively but the spoken parts of the show were hard to understand. (4) open bar and yes, the premade drinks are watered down because many are made at one time and sit. So this is a Polynesian Luau, offered at the Westin but open to anyone. There are several different kinds of luaus. You can attend in the Hawaiian islands, from events like this that are all Polynesian, to those that are focused solely on Hawaiian culture. Depending on what you're looking for, entertainment, food, or culture will influence your choice. For us, as a first luau, all Polynesian was absolutely fine, and this one was rated as having the best fire dancer show of any of the offerings. Now let's be clear, fire dancing, isn't strictly Hawaiian, but it's the tourist experience that a lot of people are looking for, including us this time. You'll notice that there aren't a lot of food pics, I was too busy eating and enjoying the food to take pictures of it. I know, bad yelper... The food here is buffet style and you're welcome to go back as often as you'd like. There are a wide range of options, both food and bar and when you're in the premium seats, you're also served some Hawaiian snacks while everyone else is getting seated. This is a fun event that all age ranges will enjoy, and the show is well produced. Fantastic dancing, great action, and enjoyable music and comedy. We purchased the premium seats as we were returning to the Westin for our anniversary and were excited to have the extra amenities advertised on the website. From the website: Highlights Premium seating will also includes: Early access to the luau A glass of sparkling wine hosted by Valley Alley Local Ohana style snacks at each table Upon our arrival, we were seated at table 13 which was next to a pole making it difficult to see the stage, we did not get early access to the luau, did not receive a glass of sparkling wine, and our table had the same snacks that all the other tables had. Most of the amenities that were advertised to be included with the premium seat extra cost were not provided to us. The food was good okay but be cautious of the chicken. It was the only item that my husband ate and I didn't. During the show, he started feeling queasy, and when we got back to our hotel, he got sick. The show was good, the dancers were very talented. It was different than the luaus that I've seen before, more emphasis on the male performers versus the female dancers. The hotel was beautiful and nicely decorated for the occasion. We were greeted with the warmest Alohas. Drinks were handed out, and we were led to our seats. While waiting for the luau to start, they have vendors selling various items of Hawaiian culture and a spot in front of the waterfall you could take a family photo. They also served fresh pineapple at our table. They have an open bar, I don't usually drink, but when in Hawaii try the tropical drinks, but beware the mai tais are sweet! The show was great and the performer put on a wonderful show. The food was decent. I have done other local luau's over the last couple of years. Definitely be prepared to pay for your experience. The vibe was very friendly, the wait was minimal and there were plenty of food options. My niece has Celiac Disease we made sure the staff was aware ahead of time and there were no problems an plenty of options. Her 12 year old daughter enjoyed the food as well. I specifically chose this luau over others in Maui because of my special dietary requirements. Their website was the only one that had a fill-in form to indicate allergies and add details in a comment box. When my wife and I arrived, the person at registration and our table server had the information I wrote in the online form. Our server was very attentive and checked with the kitchen staff to see what I could and could not eat. When he discovered the mahi mahi was cooked with dairy, he ordered one just for me that did not have dairy. He also served me a custom non-alcoholic drink. Tip: We signed up two days in advance and still got in but sat at one of the furthest tables from the stage. If you want Ohana (standard) seating, sign up early. read more

My friend and I purchased 4 tickets for Ohana seating at the Wailele Luau from the Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villa upon our arrival and check-in. We paid $875 for 4 tickets, that's $218.75 per person including tax. We found out later that other places were selling tickets around $80 per person... For the price, we had really high expectations of a spectacular show and food/drinks. The show was a disappointment. There was only one guy worth watching. All but one male performer was either short or flabby and were not very performers. Two of the female performers were good, while the others were forgettable. The entertainment did not meet our expectations and was not worth the money. The fire dance was the highlight of the evening, and even that was less than impressive. The buffet was pretty good, but nothing special about it. The roast pig was tender but was very salty. The alcoholic beverages were really lightweight. We ordered some cocktails that came in cheap plastic cups and barely had any hint of alcohol. For the premium price that we paid, I would have expected some well-decorated drinks with a decent ratio of alcohol at the very least. We had a nice time, but I would not recommend this particular luau. It was way overpriced for the sub-par quality. read more

I would best describe this luau, or any luau while in Hawaii for that matter, as an activity to do once but not necessarily again. The food was average - totally edible, but nothing that felt particularly memorable or special. I will say that they dismiss tables to the luau in groups and the buffet lines did seem to move quickly. We saw them actively refreshing the chafing dishes with fresh food throughout our time in the line. Drinks were fine - probably not high alcohol content, but that was perfectly fine by me. The area the luau in is nice and partially covered, which was nice to stay out of the sun. Seats are pre-assigned (presumably based on when you buy tickets) so in theory the earlier you buy, the closer you are to the stage. Our server was awesome - great personality, fun to interact with, and happy to bring us additional drinks when requested. The dances and music were fun to watch - I wasn't expecting a live band and they were excellent. The show goes through different Polynesian cultures and different dances/music indigenous to each. My rating is a 3.8. My family really wanted to experience a Luau for our first time in Hawaii. Ill be honest I didn't do much research but we were staying at the Westin Maui so we ended up just booking their onsite Luau mainly because all Luau pricing seemed to be similar and this was convenient for us. I was a bit bummed on the price, especially for the kids and probably would not have booked it had it not been for the 20% promotion they were running. Even with that price was still a bit ridiculous but its Hawaii, aint nothing "cheap" Hours before the event we heard from two couples how absolutely terrible the experience and food was for this event. It made me really mad so I tried to call and get a refund even though I was within the 48 hour no refund window. I spoke with Frank the manager and he did hold strong to their cancellation policy but allowed me a little grace with a reasonable offer. "Come to the Luau and if you have a problem with the experience at that time, we can talk." I am a passionate but fair man. So I gave a gentleman's agreement and we attended the event. As stated we were staying at the hotel so it was a whole 5 min walk. Very easy to find. We arrived maybe 5 minutes before they started letting everyone in and there were A LOT of people. However, the line moved very quickly. As we entered everyone was greeted with a lei and a drink. To my surprise Frank who I spoke with on the phone, I believe was waiting for me, introduced himself and walked us to our seats reiterating that if we needed anything or had a complaint to notify him and he handed me his card with his cell. I will be honest, the rest of the night went well. The performances were great, the service and staff were on it and friendly, they had all you could eat and drink (yes both alcohol and non). Overall we did enjoy ourselves. And because I am fair, I did not feel the need to make any complaints to Frank. Here is the brutally honest part. Are there maybe better Luau's? Maybe, wouldn't know. While the food was decent, no it was not gourmet but again this isn't the Ritz. If you are picky or snooty or a food snob, ya you are probably gonna have issues. But I think for most reasonable people it's a fun and tasty night. I do however believe the pricing IS a bit much for what it is but I do understand they have to pay a lot of hard working staff. I absolutely think the kids prices should be reduced or tiered by age. Anyhow, If you have the money and arent a primary dona and never experienced a Luau, take the leap, otherwise. Dont bother. I also would like to thank Frank for the customer service and effort he provided to us amongst the other unexpected gratuities which were purposefully not considered during this review. This was one of my favorite luaus I have ever been to mostly because it was perfect for kids. The buffet was delicious and they had a separate kids buffet area - it was adorable. I have never seen a luau do this before. The Westin website was offering 30% off so we upgraded to premium seating and I'm so happy we did. The entire luau is on the small side so I don't really think there is a bad seat. Other luaus offer more cultural experiences (basket weaving, etc) I didn't see any of that but didn't feel like we were missing out at all. There was a few tables set up souvenirs you could purchase. The premium seats paid for closer seats, there is no vip line or early access. Same line as everyone else, same food, same drinks. The show was our favorite part! They did such a fantastic job! I think they're struggling to find people to work because it was basically three people doing the entire Luau show. There was no entertainment during the meal so long periods with nothing going on. If you have never ever been to a lu'au you will likely enjoy this show. If you go and think this lu'au is great you have no clue what you are missing. I'll say this the performers in this show give it their all. And the customer service is great. HOWEVER this is the worse produced show. A good lu'au is about the customer experience and for a good experience the customer needs attention. Here are the pros And cons of this lu'au. Pros: -Customer Service -Great resort -Performers gave it there all - the end of the show with the fire throwing is fun to watch Cons: - The show is dry and lacks enthusiasm from start to end - The break between performances is too long - lacks audience participation - lacks the authentic feel of watching a pig Being roasted, etc - There we're no greetings with performers in the traditional wear, meaning no pics with performers (trust me you're going to want pics and if you have kids they will too) - no traditional lei greeting when you arrive (but you can buy them for $15...this is TERRIBLE) - some of the tables are obstructed by large pillars so expect to move and stand. - The food is okay but not plentiful, it's family style...small portions. Tip: Do not do this lu'au unless it's convenient and you're staying at the Westin it is not worth the price of admission. If you want a suggestion on a better lu'au message me. We've been to four luaus and this is the best by far. We splurged on the premium seating and it was well worth it. We were pretty close to the stage so we had a great view. The food was all great and there was a wide selection. The show was fantastic. The MC did a great job of narrating and telling the story of the Hawaiian islands, myths and people. This was our first luau experience and it was so much fun. The performances were so beautiful and exciting to watch. Sat with others and enjoyed good conversation. The drinks flowed all night and the food was amazing. Went back for more, definitely recommend trying a lil of everything to find your liking. The staff was always around to get you a drink and clean up. At the end of the night we wanted a pineapple and were given a good one to enjoy later on. Didn't get to see a pig being cooked in traditional style, but this was a great experience, we had a memorable time. read more

We aren't luau experts by any means, but this one just seemed over priced by the food standards alone. Show was good and pleasant. Ambiance was still very touristy- it is held at an upscale resort. Next time, we'll try the more authentic experience. All servers and workers were very welcoming and kind and performers all did a great job. read more

I loved it! The show had a really good flow occompanied by a great story line. The live musicians were on point as well. Open bar for a good amount of time, plenty of tasty food options (my favorite was the poke), the pork was a bit too dry but again, there were many other well cooked options to choose from. I have been to a luau was i was younger and remember it being a lot bigger by the water where they also held the smoke pig ceremony. This one wasn't as expected but, i did love the stage and waterfall set up. it gave it a more exotic ambiance. If in Maui, i do highly recommend this Luau. read more

Our first luau,so glad we booked with the. Through The Westin spa & resort hotel in Maui Our waiter was "Lance" he made our experience fabulous and memorable,something will never forget . Because of covid our food was pre plated Wasn't sure how that would work out from the traditional luau. This way was better everything was brought to our table and we were assigned a table server ,ours was "Lance" he was so friendly great hospitality-couldn't have had a better human to make us feel special and welcome . At sunset he took us out to the beach and all his table he waited on, he take our sunset family pictures . Super sweet and made sure we always had a drink and plenty of food. The food was super delicious and perfectly cooked. From appetizers to main course to dessert. The show was out of definitely highly recommend anyone booking through The Westin.
