What's not to love about a place named Gilligans? Located on a golf course with views overlooking the ocean and greens, this is a great place to catch a snack or Buick bite. I ordered their HOG WILD SMOKY BBQ PULLED PORK (Pulled Kalua Pork with BBQ sauce & house-made coleslaw on a brioche bun served with waffle cut potatoes) with added chili, cheese sauce and jalapeños. My server/barkeep was working her tail off single-handedly taking care of business. She did a great job. The pulled pork sandwich was melt in your mouth tender with a taste of smoky good flavor. First time in Hawaii, didn't know what to expect but I was excited by the performances, more than satisfied by the musicians & very happy with the vocals. The costumes were attractive as were the dancers. The staff was very willing and worked hard to keep the visitors happy. Their work supported the dancers & musicians. Total team work for a great evening. I've seen Luaus on TV but so hard to compete with Hollywood . So glad Gillian's had a very ample, competent crew. We were welcomed with smiles and ti leaf leis. The check-in and seating process was pretty seamless. The view was very nice, especially at sunset. We were surprised to sit in the back since we purchased our tickets four months ago. The drink servers came by quickly to take our order, but it was hard to flag them down during the luau for more drinks because each server had to attend to several tables. The buffet line moved quickly as you could serve yourself from both sides of the tables. The food was just ok, best thing I had was the pineapple. The performances were not on the elevated stage, so sitting in the back made it difficult to see. We enjoyed learning about the culture. The music and dancers were entertaining, especially the fire dancer! There was some interactive fun towards the end. Walked in 15 minutes before the Sunday Night Football game. There were three people at the bar and the bar tender never greeted us. No waitresses acknowledged us. Over on Maui for a bachelor party. The boys and myself out on the golf course having a great time. Didn't think it could get better until we met the course cart bartender Savannah. She told us about all the local hotspots, including Gilligan's for a luau. This is our second time on Maui and second time on Gilligans and it just keeps getting better with the performers at the luau the food at the restaurant and the bartenders are awesome. Arrival went to bar and the bartender was crabby and rude.; tried our best to get him to be friendly but it was an impossible task. Someone's went to order a drink he bit her head off. Drinks were terrible watered down. No working bathrooms. Ambiance was a dive bar hot as can be no air conditioning. Best thing about this place was the luau and luau food. read more

This would have definitely been a beyond 5 star review. The food , service atmosphere and the absolutely beautiful luau were top notch. Everyone was so kind and helpful. We were a party of 25 and like I said I would have given this a 5 star, but there was no inside bathroom. They only had portable toilets outside which made it very difficult for the children and our elderly mom. Please get that taken care of so next time we visit we could give you that 5 stars you deserve read more

Good to see that Gilligans Bar & Grill is expanding. They've added the Gilligans Island Luau. We've seen many different luaus in Hawaii and this show has all of the bases covered. The show is a little on the small side. There are 5 dancers, but they are very talented and so nice to look at. They have a really good band, too. There are only a few picnic tables for seating, so nobody needs binoculars to see the dancers because it's very intimate. Good variety of dance numbers with quick costume changes and even a fire dance at the end. The buffet has all of the choices that you expect to find at a luau and the food tastes good, too. They have an open bar with a limited choice of cocktails or wine or beer to choose from. Our server did a great job of bringing us drinks and clearing the used plates and glasses from the table. It's easy to book your reservations from Gilligans website. Since this is a new show and word hasn't really gotten around, you can easily reserve seats for shows next week. read more

Food is not very good here. It is over salted. The chicken breast sandwich was way over done, not moist or pleasant to eat. We left disappointed. Tried three times to contact a manager. She did not even let me explain, interrupted me several times in the brief conversation. I would not recommend this place to eat. We dropped in after our round of golf. The bev cart girl suggested we try our 19th hole here. We've never had a bad meal at any 19th hole so we took a chance. We were warmly greeted by Maria. She asked indoor or outdoor seating. We went outside but came back in as it was too breezy outside. She sat us at a table for four. She made some suggestions but we knew what we wanted to order as the bev cart girl mentioned the hot dog with a twist. Hubby & I both ordered the West Virginia chili dog. It was lathered with mustard & slaw. Served with waffle fries. We both had draft beers that went well with the hot dogs. Hubby had a second hot dog with his order as each dog is only six inches. We saw advertising about this place and had to check it out. We were seat inside the restaurant, part of the golf course. Inside is very industrial looking with different painted tiki's on all the pillars. We sat by the window with spectacular view of Kihei and the Maalaea harbour, with the west Maui mountains. Troy was our server, very friendly and efficient. Before we knew it he was serving our food to us. We ordered Frickles, beer and Pog. Everything was delicious, we weren't very hungry we just wanted to see what all the hype was all about. We will be returning to sample the main menu. Absolutely horrible luau!!! Unless you're in the front row you can't see anything!!! Terrible experience and waste of money. So disappointed!! Our dishes sat in front of us for 20 minutes dirty and than we piled them behind us and they sat for 30 more. My friend never got asked if she wanted a second drink (drinks were included in price.) she could have had 5 if she wanted, but waiter never asked her! Show was awful- can't see anything!!!! We came for the luau and the food and service was AMAZING! However, my view of the luau was from behind this pole and I could not see anything the entire evening. They have a perfectly good stage to the side, I am not sure why they don't use it so everyone that pays $200 for the show can see. read more

Looking for a luau close to home base (Kihei) and found Gilligan's luau. Decided the price was right and the location was perfect so we didn't totally screw up our kids' bedtimes, so we went for it. The location is gorgeous - you can see the sunset, and you have the rolling hills of the golf course. Parking is easy - big parking lot. The seating was picnic tables for those who didn't pay for the VIP seating. After talking with the manager (?) it seems like they're upgrading the seating to nicer accommodations in the near future, which would be great for the price. I would say there were probably 100 ish people in total - if that. The food is good - the fish was a little dry, but it was also on a buffet line so I wasn't surprised. Still edible. Would have been great to have a sauce to go with it. The buffet was filled throughout dinner - so you could go back and get more if you wanted, even if it didn't look full when you went through the line. A few Hawaiian specials - Mac salad, poi and lomi lomi salmon - were really delicious. My husband said the lomi lomi was some of the best he has ever had. My six year old loved the pork, which was a nice change from her normal menu of chicken tenders. The performance though - WOW. The musicians were amazing - I'd go see them anywhere they were playing. The dancers were also really good - fun to watch, and clearly enjoyed what they were doing. This is not the Four Seasons - so if you're coming into it thinking that's what you're getting you will be disappointed. Of course, you're not paying that ridiculous price either; what you're getting is some pretty decent food and a very intimate show, without all of the extra bells and whistles. Super fun, and even my six year old who has been at the luau at the Grand Wailea said that the one at Gillian's was better. I mean, who can argue with a six year old? Of note - a member of our group has celiac disease and cannot have gluten, so we called before booking to make sure they could accommodate. Cheyenne (the manager?) was really easy to work with to make sure they could accommodate us. Cheyenne's communication was an absolute deciding factor in us attending this luau versus another. read more

Loved that the luau was smaller and not extremely packed like most luaus. Loved the sunset backdrop! The dancing/storytelling was so unique-absolutely loved it. The food was delicious. Even our picky 9-year old got full. Our server was spectacular. Highly recommend this if you want a smaller venue with yummy food in Maui-especially if you are staying in Kihei. This is really not what we were expecting. Had I known better I would have paid more for our resort's luau. First off, the show was very entertaining, and I take nothing away from the performances. Unfortunately, the venue and food were definitely subpar. Folks, this is a small, golf course bar and grill overlooking some apartments and part of the golf course. This is where they hold the luau. So, don't expect some beautiful ocean backdrop. You are cramped onto an open-air patio with too many tables, eating shoulder-to-shoulder with other attendees. And the stage is pretty small as well. Put it this way, when the fire thrower did his part, all the folks sitting at the (VIP tables) in the front had to get up and stand in the back. Yeah, they paid more to stand in the back for a bit! Hopefully, you don't have a tall person sitting in front of you either, because you'll miss a lot because the patio is flat. I suppose there were maybe 200 folks packed onto this patio area, and I do mean packed! Either way, it seemed way too small for all those people. We also got a little rain, which sent folks scrambling into the indoor seating area. The food is served buffet style, so you line up to make your plate. It honestly tasted like cafeteria food and the chicken was not grilled, it was baked at best. I've had way tastier Hawaiian food at Ono Hawaiian in LA and Mo Bettah's in OKC! It honestly felt a money grab; pile as many people onto this small patio, feed 'em cafeteria food, and charge 'em as much as we can. The desserts were store bought, I'm sure. The servers were nice, but the term you get what you pay for definitely applies here. Spend the extra money at a resort luau if you want better food, space and a beautiful Hawaiian backdrop. read more
