I can't imagine how you wouldn't love the place! FREE WINE people! We stopped by on our way up the 7 sacred pools, many people also stop here on the road to Hana. It's a great stop to break up any Trip. We missed one of the free tours (10:30 AM daily) but if you can definitely check it out. We had a great time talking to the gentlemen working the counter and trying our free tasting. We bought a bottle of the Maui Splash for $14 - which is what it runs for two people to even do a wine tasting at most places. The views were STUNNING, the grounds extremely well kept, and the staff was friendly.. and again have I mentioned they have FREE WINE HERE?! I would absolutely recommend Maui Wine to anyone in the area, it is not a terribly long excursion but it was pleasant, fun and totally unique. Beautiful grounds and friendly service. The cheese platter was delicious and my friends and I enjoyed tasting the different wines that they offered. My only negative was that my friend and I did the tasting for two and we didn't like that we had to share a glass for each new wine we tasted... I'm not sure why they couldn't split the wine in two different glasses. If we had known this before hand we probably would have done a different flight or just ordered different glasses of wine individually. Otherwise, definitely a beautiful spot to spend an hour or two of relaxation. :) read more

A WINERY IN HAWAII!?! Also the only way to get here would be going through Road to Hana, or the opposite direction, which are both treacherous. This was a fun and interesting experience. The drive to the winery should get a five-star rating, gorgeous views. Ample parking snd good signage welcomes the visitor. As we walked up the path we both noticed the well manicured property, excellent signage displaying COVID-19 procedures. We were welcome by an attendant, super kind, then seated (yes, we had a reservation. The couple in front of us did not and we heard an hour an a half for a table!) This really emphasizes the popularity of MW. Our server was quick to welcome us and provide a menu. We loved our server and selected wines. Delicious. Why a 3-star review? When you have a semi-truck unloading rocks, two bulldozers working at full speed, it really kills the serene wine vibe. Since no one ever mentioned the work (in-person or website), it was really terrible. Someone had to know you'd be running huge construction equipment 75 yards from a wine tasting area. How do you discuss flavor notes when 10 tons of rock are falling out of a semi-truck? I'm sure this experience is a five star on a good day, just please let me know when the good day is planned, we'd come back. read more

The setting is lovely in upcountry. The tasting facility is comfortable and shop is very nicely done. The wine tasting itself was interesting, and the small bites were good. The problem for us was our server was impatient and rude. It wasn't super busy and we were the only customers on the deck where we were sitting for at least half the time. I think we possibly irritated her because it took us a few minutes to get on their Wi-Fi and download the menu. But, it was just a few minutes. No one really engaged us or offered to share anything about the winery or how it started, or any history at all. If you have experienced wine tasting on the west coast of the mainland, don't expect that kind of interaction at this location. We were excited about going there, and it makes me kind of sad for them. We bought 2 flights apiece, and food. Not everyone was rude and irritated, but no one seemed excited at all about what they produce there. I would say, if you want to experience the pineapple wines, and see more of the upcountry, go; don't expect much interaction though, you're kind of on your own. read more

Staff were very pleasant. Wait was about an hour, but we were walk-ins during a busy time so that was to be expected. The winery had two friendly kitties that we just adorable. 5 stars for the kitties and the staff. The wines however... very limited showings, and while I love Maui Splash, they sell that for 13-15 bucks at every ABC store on the island, so a 1-hour drive from the west coast hotels just wasn't worth it. The rosé flight was unfortunately dull as dishwater. Maybe just buy some of their pineapple wines at an ABC store and take them on a picnic and save yourselves a long drive to the middle of nowhere read more

We made a day trip out to the winery and, like others have recommended, we had lunch at the Ulupalakua ranch store prior. It's a beautiful area to drive through on a clear day and worth a trip whether or not you're going to Hana. We were told that they recently got the license to serve wine (tasting flights + by the glass), so it's no longer free (that I know of). I think these options enhanced our overall experience as we were able to try 10-12 wines. They have 2 complimentary tours at 10:30am and 1:30pm. There are no vineyards or pineapple fields as you might expect, but the views and grounds are beautiful. Now for the wine... I don't know wine that well. In my opinion they range from ok to good. I didn't feel like any of their bottles were worth the price, and, you can actually find some of them for cheaper at places like Foodland and Walgreens (no joke), which is the main reason for the 4* instead of 5*. read more

I loved loved loved this winery! Get there at opening!! Or ten minutes prior. It gets busy around 11am. So glad we did not only an upcountry day on our last day in Maui but the winery on particular. The winery grounds are stunning. Lush, green landscape with tropical trees and birds singing all around. Tucked into the mountain you have views of the Wailea area, Molokini Crater and valley as well as the sloping mountain going up into the clouds. I am from Oregon so used to green and lush but this place charmed me and I just wanted to stay all night and wake up alone there with a cup of coffee and just the birds chirping. Clearly I was taken. The winery itself is small, beautiful with light wood interior. Homey but upscale. It's in the old King's Cottage and you can do a guided tour of the grounds which helps give the history of the place. Very interesting. Our guide was newer but did a lovely job on the tour. Kudos to her. We did the tropical flight, think that is the name. Basically three pineapple wines, one grape and one raspberry dessert wine. The wines including grape were wonderful. I especially loved the pineapple because who wouldn't? We actually signed up for the wine club and took home our first shipment. Next in five months! Kind of feel like I'm cheating on oregon but it's pineapple wine, pineapple grown in Maui and made there on site. When Oregon starts into the pineapple wine business I'll reassess. :) After our tour and tasting we popped over to the General store for a burger, Pinterest said we had too. It's right across the gravel road so you may as well. It's well known in Maui for those willing to make the upcountry drive away from the beaches. So all in all, loved the drive up...beautiful upcountry views, totally different from beach scene. Loved the winery and setting. The staff was fantastic, fun and helpful. There is history for those interested in that bit, which you should learn if you're there anyway. Lots of seating outdoors, maybe some rain since you're up in the clouds (we didn't have any rain but it's something to keep in mind) but the porch is covered, they had umbrellas on site for guests. They have corn hole set up and like I said, elk, lamb, venison and beef burgers right across the road. Out of all the Maui adventures we did, even snorkeling at the crater, this tops my list. read more

The last time we were here it was Tedeshi Winery! In 2015 they re-branded to Maui Wine. 30 years ago the tasting was free. Those days are long gone no matter what winery you go too. The tastings are $12 or $16 per person. My husband doesn't like to do tastings so I was alone at the bar! The gals were nice but were definitely more interested in the locals who came in. They poured the wines but didn't engage or explain each wine, just...this is the Kula, this is the pineapple brut. I really felt a bit awkward standing there alone with zero engagement. I enjoyed the Pineapple Blanc and purchased a bottle along with a small jar of Kula honey. My suggestion would be to sign up for a tasting at the original building. Hopefully you get a bit more info on the ranch, the wine. I have no clue where they grow the grape, what the varietals are. They make more than pineapple wine. Lovely grounds with beautiful views. Was lucky enough to find a walk-in table on a busy day! The patio is so so gorgeous--staghorn ferns and breezy views of Maui coast. Wanted to love the Maui Blanc with all of the hype, but Hula o Maui, Maui Splash, and the dessert wines are the ones to write home about. Love the subtle but distinct pineapple of the dry Hila o Maui. Don't normally like sweet wines, but the Maui Splash was tropical and very fun--great for fun company on a hot day. Highly recomend the Lokelani dessert wine WITH the chocolate pairing. Finally, shoutout to our fabulous hostess Rina and server Kiana, who were so friendly, accommodating, and informative. Then take you to the garden to tell you about the history of the land and the plants on their property. You'll also get to see they fermentation tanks and system. Nice venue, lots of history, and well rounded wine menu. That said the wines weren't overly satisfying and it seemed like there were too many blends. As far as I saw there was no simple Merlot or Cabernet like you'll see with old world wines. That's fun and all but master the old world wines before you mess with blends. They did have lots of parking, clean restrooms, and friendly & informative staff. The pineapple wine was certainly unique and worth a try! Prices could use some work. $25 for tasting and a glass of Mele. That's a lot! read more

Great ambiance, with a couple of reasonable flight choices. You must have a reservation and they will lot seat you until then if you arrive early. Only a few small plate food choices to pair with your wine, which is a bit harder if you'd like to stay for a while and enjoy more wine and weather. Our server Lu was fantastic though! read more

Wow! What an amazing trip to Maui Winery. With my reservation I got VIP service, and a look at their new flight menu. They have surely stepped it up with an incredible new set of flights. My favorite was the rose flight. Top notch! I was treated like royalty with the new table service and everyone was fantastic. Not to mention I had one of the best rose wines of all time. You need to try the 2019 rose, with fresh strawberry and lemon verbena notes. It is out of this world. I new never been as impressed with this winery as I was today. Bravo!!! We made a stop at Maui Wine on our day in the Upcountry. The grounds are nice but there is construction going on to expand the store. Several of the wines were not available during our visit which was too bad. We waited a while before even being acknowledged by anyone behind the counter. You are given three small tastes of the available wines, most of them very dry. The estate Syrah wasn't bad but don't compare it to anything from Napa. We ended up buying two bottles of the sweet Maui splash pineapple wine. It will be perfect for the hot Vegas summer coming up. It is light and refreshing. Im glad we stopped here, but wouldn't make a point to come back when we return to Maui. read more

Aloha! Stop there! You can taste up to 3 free samples of wine. I'm sure you will end up to buy at least one of their bottle. I'm working with wine every day in my profession (F$B supervisor with sommelier license). I recommend Shiraz 2012. Good value (quality x price). I tried only 6 samples tho :(Somebody had to drive). Pineapple wine was not my thing! But try it. We all have a different palette. I was skeptical, because this is only official winery on island, but they really do good job. If you are driver I recommend spit the wine you are tasting. You have to ask for backet. Even you spit, there will be always some alcohol going in your body. Have fun there! I would be DEFINETLY back next time. But this time with better planing. We stopped here after trip from Hana so we couldn't be there long enough to try all samples. Mahalo for reading it! read more

Havent been to this winery since the rebranding from Tedeshi. Brought two friends and made it a girls trip. We all enjoyed the experience..ok it not napa..but it is a beautiful place for the tourists to visit thats upcountry. Enjoy the ride. The wine has greatly improved and our flights of wine met our expectations. The only thing I was disappointed on is..the wine they sell is available on Oahu..so we wasted 500.00 shipping two cases back to Oahu. Im guessing the sales pitch "that you cant get it on Oahu" ..is just that..a sales pitch, as we found it at Malama market. This place was awesome! Truly amazing and it is worth fitting it into your Maui schedule. My Husband and I were in Hawaii for our Honeymoon during the Summer of 2015. We were on the Norwegian cruise and we rented a car and drove to the winery. The drive along the Hawaiian countryside was beautiful. We arrived at the winery right when they opened. We took the complementary tour and the complementary tastings and they were all very fun! No need to make a reservation, just show up! Among the group we tried all of the pineapple wines and thought they were very nice - there is a dry and sweet option depending on your taste and we all thought the sparkling pineapple wine was great! There are some grape based wines as well that very fairly well done, some were better then others. But you come here to try unique pineapple wine. On the tour we learned that they used a grape press to press the pineapples to make the juice for the wine - very cool! The tour also covers the ranch's history in relation to Hawaiian kings and through past owners. It's very well done. read more

The hostess was not helpful and very rude. Had family with back problems and they would not accommodate, be aware that there aren't many chairs with backs on them, so if you make a reservation make sure you let them know you need a table with chairs with backs. The waitress serving us was very nice, although she did charge us extra for things, so if you weren't paying attention that would have been a bummer. The wine was good, very little options of food, not sure why we need to make reservations for a place like this when it's just pretty much a wine tasting situation. I visited Maui Wine in December 2020 and it was on of my favorite moments while visiting the island. The staff were so friendly and sweet. Maui Wine is located on top of a beautiful mountains and it's so peaceful and sentence. The wines were amazing! My boyfriend and I took some bottles home with us and we had different flights and mimosas. It is a Wednesday and we arrived at this fine location around 10:50. Several other groups were here and ready to drink just as we were. The gate was opened and all walked in. The hostess began speaking with people. As the third group, she said she needed to get through reservations before seating those without. There were about 9 groups in line about maybe 5 had a reservation. To each group without a reservation, she made an emphasis to point out that reservations are highly encouraged, as if we can just visit in two weeks when we're back in Kula. To each group that has a reservation, she asked if they need to use the restroom prior to seating - as if an adult can't figure out when they need to go themselves. She told us 10 minutes and she'd know if we could sit. Another group after us mentioned they tried booking on Resy but we're unable to do it because it was "blacked out". The hostess explained that means there's no openings, yet somehow she "tried her best" and was able to get them a table despite them being after us in line. Ok. 30 minutes goes by. She is the slowest person ever and takes an entire 30 minutes to seat 6 groups of people. There are 5 open tables and it is 11:30. With the last group seated, she walks back to the podium and takes her iPad and a notebook with her to walk inside. She doesn't say anything to us. I kindly ask her if we are going to be seated at one of the 5 tables that are open. She says "I'm going to go call some reservations to see if they're still coming and then I'll come back to seat you." It's been 30 minutes and again, there are 5 tables. She comes back 15 minutes later and states that she has more reservations coming and doesn't know when we'll be seated. It has been a full 45 minutes with 5 open tables. For the love of God, go with a reservation and do not have any type of idea that you'll be able to enjoy this like any other winery. You won't be able to buy a bottle and enjoy the grounds like you'd expect. Hopefully you won't encounter the hostess that acts like Maui Wine is the hottest joint on the island or the incompetence that she exudes. read more

My husband and I drove to Hana (I did the driving) and we did the full loop around. At one point I commented on how I needed a drink after that drive, and then we drive by the winery. Knowing my husband doesn't like wine, I didn't suggest it, but he did! It was a great stop after that drive. I did the pineapple flight and added the sparkling rose and Mele. They were all so good! Oh Maui Wine - how you have brought so much happiness to my world! Making the drive from Kihei was lovely - the weather shifted a lot though (so bring a jacket maybe). The grounds are just beautiful - so lush and so many historical stories from this place. We took the free tour and learned so much. Definitely take it if you can. We did wine tasting and they are all super good but that Maui Splash is the best! We ended up getting more glasses of that, sitting on the porch and enjoying the misty rainstorm that rolled through. We shipped boxes of wine back home to San Diego and even got sweatshirts. Everyone is incredibly nice and friendly here - I hope to return in the future! read more

Enjoyed our trek out to Maui Wine. Beautiful drive puts you right into this historic winery. Lots of cool pictures on the wall to look at. During Covid it was all outdoor seating and I saw them sanitizing in between guests. Reservations help them keep capacity and tables were very spaced out on the big patio. All servers had on masks and menus were QR code's. Fun wines to try including ones made from pineapples. Definitely worth a visit! read more
