During the 2 years I used this dental practice, I saw Dr. Viv once and Dr. Joe the other times. I stopped going here after concluding that they are not good dentists. A typical exam here goes like this: a hygienist cleans your teeth then (if you're due) takes x-rays; the dentist looks at the x-rays (if taken) and asks if anything hurts. If the x-rays are clean and nothing hurts, that's it -- the dentist doesn't even look in your mouth! If something appears on the x-ray, the dentist or hygienist photographs the tooth and he examines the photos, but still doesn't do an all-around look in your mouth. Dentists who don't look in your mouth -- what a concept! The one big thing I had done here was a crown. After the dentist did the drilling, everything else was left for the dental assistant. After the crown came in, the assistant would have done it all, again without supervision, but she was having trouble, so Dr. Joe came in to fit it and glue it. After switching to another practice later on, I learned from the new dentist that Joe had left a gap between the crown and the tooth and I'm being urged to replace it. This can't be blamed on the assistant. Joe himself fit the thing but he didn't examine his work by looking in my mouth and seeing the gap before gluing it in. (The hygienists here always seemed to do a good job, but on my subsequent visits they must have seen the gap and never told me about it. Whether they ever told Joe, I don't know.) The last time I went here, there was nothing on the x-rays and nothing hurt, but Joe recommended work on 3 teeth. I asked him 2 questions to find out whether the work was necessary and the consequence of not doing it. His answer to both questions was, "I don't know," then he left in a huff. I never went back. This practice has many great ratings online, but you should know that they use a reputation management company to get positive reviews online and bury negative ones. With so many dentists around, there's no need to go to an incompetent one. read more

I suffer from major anxiety. Thanks to covid I have been 20 times more anxious. And as fate would have it I got a toothache. The idea of leaving the house to go to a dentist was terrifying me. On the date when the state allowed dentists to re-open their offices they fit me in right away. It was super clean, staff checked temps and Dr Joe made me very comfortable, pulled out my tooth quickly and as painlessly as possible. That was less than 24 hrs ago and I am already feeling better. Had a deep cleaning by Dr George, and minor cavities filled by Dr. Vivian, and since I hate novocaine and overall needles in my mouth, I asked for the topical anesthetic used in regular cleanings instead. The office is extremely clean and the receptionist staff are very friendly and welcoming! I did not give this place a higher review because the current dental hygienist is so gentle that if feels as if you hadn't gotten a cleaning and the female dentist is very rough. By rough I mean tearing up pain during and pain afterwards. I never understood why she was so rough. Male dentist is nice, can sometimes feel as if you are being talked down to, but that is just what I personally felt there. Overall, I would still recommend this place, it does have its flaws but it's mostly good then bad! read more

I went to this dentist almost 3 years ago with a crippling toothache, when I was in NJ for a vacation, and it turned out I needed a root canal. He was the first dentist I could find online and I had read one decent review. He seemed confident about doing root canals, said he did several every day, and began the procedure right away. He was nice and friendly, although I found that he got rather impatient as the procedure wore on (it was for a lower molar and fairly complicated). After the root canal was done, I noticed some pain when the dentist rubbed the gum around the tooth/root, but he dismissed the problem (he didn't seem to think it out of the ordinary), prescribed antibiotics, and sent me on my way. A few months later when I was back home, I was still noticing a mild pain/discomfort, so my usual dentist took an x-ray when i went for a check-up. He said there was an infection by the root of that tooth, but that it was hard to tell at this point whether it was the previous infection getting better, or if it was healing. I forgot about it for over a year, but when I next went for a check-up, the x-ray showed that the infection was getting worse. This meant that I would need to get a root canal re-treatment (basically doing the root canal all over again -- read: expensive and uncomfortable and stressful), and if that did not work, getting a root end surgery (apicoectomy). I was living overseas at this point, which added to the stress, but I managed to find an english-speaking endondontist where I was, who re-did the root canal. It took much longer this time, he used a microscope (which Dr. Mauriello had not done, if I recall correctly), and he said that the problem could have arisen if the first doctor had not properly disinfected all the canals during the initial root canal. This must have been the case, because four months later, I went for a check-up and it seems that the infection (or rather, the inflammation caused by the infection) is slowly getting better. Dr. Mauriello may be fine for the usual procedures, but if you need a root canal, I would advise finding an endodontist who will do a more careful job. read more

I had a crown done by Dr. Mauriello. He cut my cheek with the drill as he prepared my molar, and then left a gap in between the crown and the tooth. It had to be redone only a year later. read more
