Finally got a chance to drop in to try Maverick Whiskey. We went to the upstairs bar, which is small but cozy, and I ordered Homestead Old Fashioned with their Rye whiskey. The drink was well made and their Rye had a nice kick and wasn't overly priced at $13 for a house made whiskey. We had tickets to a show and couldn't stay longer but look forward to coming back and trying the food and other spirits.

This distillery visit was long overdue. My husband and I visited the upstairs bar on an early Friday evening. They did an excellent job renovating an old bank into a distillery. I wanted to try a variety of spirits, so I did the whiskey and white tasting (rum, gin, vodka, bourbon). The gin was my favorite, it had a slightly sweet, yet earthy taste with a touch of citrus. We were told the gin is infused with pecan, very unique. Next, I had a rye old fashioned while my husband enjoyed his beer and rye whiskey (boilermaker). Mike took great care of us and gave us a little tour of the upstairs bar area. The prices are reasonable for the great quality of the spirits. We will be back to purchase some bottles and try other cocktails.

This was such a great experience! Although we came to go upstairs to the bar we were able to order drinks from the bar downstairs while watching football and playing games (which they had already on the tables). Customer service was great, and the bartender was fantastic! We did not order any food, but the experience alone was great! You can also take a tour and they will discuss the whiskey made there. We highly recommend and will be back for sure.

First time visit. Loved the warm welcome and allowing us to choose a quick first floor talk through or head straight to the 2nd floor Bar. Very knowledgeable and.l enjoyed the Maverick Whiskey history and flight taste. Relaxed atmosphere and then heading upstairs. Michael was professional and cool attitude vibe! Custom made a couple of Old Fashions. Great place to head in and relax for a few. Will love to revisit.

SAN ANTONIO, TX: you know we are always thirsty and we found another distillery to rehydrate. Maverick Distilling is located in a historic building and former bank and they serve up whiskey, bourbon, gin, and tequila! They even make their own beer! They have it all! We spent time in the main level distiller's lounge that offered an older ambiance and seating. Leashed dogs are allowed inside. Bring your own food and pair with a cocktail!

    My tasting, awesome.

Fantastic tour and bartender. Great historic place to hang out and enjoy some great whiskey.

Cool place. The lady downstairs said cocktails were upstairs, so up the elevator we went. It was happy hour but it was quiet. Asked the bartender a question about the menu and he assumed a different t drink, so I clarified. Gave me a vague answer so I based me decision on trying something new and it was not great but I drank it all because it was expensive, they don't actually partake in happy hour.

I took my husband here for a private tour of the distillery for his birthday and it was well worth it! Our tour guide was fun and informative. We even got to see the barrels I the basement. At the end of our tour we got to try several whiskeys and went home with a cute engraved glass. The experience was so cool and entertaining that I would make this a regular place to drink and hang out.

You can go on a tour or stop by for drinks. I didn't do the tour but still thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Went upstairs to their bar which was well ventilated with AC. There are some cute photo ops. Everybody working here was kind.

Overall good. Food was flavorful and the charcuterie board was quite good. Liked that it was not TOO fancy.... Good cheeses and meats, and fruit and pickled items were good! I liked my chicken and my wife enjoyed the salmon. Good veggies accompanied... The flight was also good. The reserve whiskey was good as was the triticale.... Never had that before. Waitress described it as a "happy accident". Tequila and vodka were just OK... All in all this is a very enjoyable experience and I can see myself coming back again. I will say the one thing that they could do a better job at is coming up with some sort of parking solution.... That was pretty awful... Other than that all good. The waitress was good but not great- I will also say that the music in here was very "vampire nightclub" and it was a shame that I was not drinking more and dancing.... Lol! Seems like it will be better when more people are here (we were here a little early).

What a lovely place to stop in and get a drink. I found this place on a google search. Whenever I'm going to a new city I look up wineries or tasting rooms, distilleries, and breweries because priorities. This place is a quick jaunt from The Alamo so it was my first stop after touring the historic site. The bartenders are really friendly and the spirits themselves are lively and interesting. I was able to partake in happy hour which includes $10 flights and $8 crafted cocktails. If you're a whiskey lover like me you won't be disappointed. The drink menu is really really imaginative; everything is well balanced and complimentary to the spirit. I ended up ordering the seasonal flight and something that was essentially a reposado old fashioned. I would come here often if I lived in the city and I'll definitely be stopping in on my next visit to San Antonio.

While furloughed during the summer of 2020 I would walk around the downtown area of San Antonio. I had passed Maverick Whiskey multiple times when they were only selling hand sanitizer. The place looked cool. I was downtown for The Monkees show. I wanted to stop by for a drink. The bartenders were very friendly and talented. They had a few unique drink options. The got one of both old fashioned cocktails they had on their drink menu. They were both great. The guys to the right of me were raving about the food especially the fries. I had to order the fries and they were $11. They had a nice cheese sauce, bacon and a runny egg on top. The fries were super tasty. I will recommend them to everyone. I am looking forward to trying more menu items in the future. I will definitely be back.

    Are kids welcomed?

Sure, we might be a distillery, but we're a family family!

Can you watch the games here?

Actually, YES! We do show major games and host watch parties - give us a call for more information!

    Do they take reservations?

Yes they do. We used Open Table app to make reservations and they even had the table set aside near the production floor. Honored reservation even on a slow midweek day.

The mixologist explained they don't do smoked old fashions due to fire hazard and location in a historic building. But he still made an engaging presentation in creating our cocktails. There was no food offered but they let us bring in voodoo donuts. The two gentlemen at the bar were very friendly and attentive and made our late night visit a special treat. Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)

They came with a few spicy pickled veggies as a side. The limonada was as expected . I highly recommend a fried quails legs. We enjoy eating quails, but it's usually bittersweet relationship because of all the small bones however their appetizer for fried quail legs is super user-friendly. If you are scared of choking on small bones, these will not give you that kind of worry at all. We were impressed on how well-made and easily eaten they were. Whether any of you who are reading this know about the history of the Menger Bar and it's role in Teddy Roosevelt's assemblage of the Roughriders in this particular establishment or not the drink which he had was a mint julep. When I ask for that drink for which The past president was known to imbibe in they did not have the ingredients. That was a disappointment. Beyond my disappointment was the reality of a service establishment that had great personnel that is bartenders who were quite service oriented and given the activity in the bar where quite efficient. I mentioned this to suggest that the ingredients for a drink are as much, a managers, responsibly, bartender, and so in fairness to what I think was exemplary service I certainly did not want my personal disappointment to reflect on how good these bartenders were. The ambience is also wonderful. It is the period appropriate or appears to be appropriate and hence gives you the comfort of being able to visualize Teddy drawing together a group that eventually went on to Victory over the Spanish in Cuba. It is romantic and comfortable. The bartenders explained that the round table at which Roosevelt sat has been moved somewhere within the hotel. This is an experience not to be missed.
