They have a subway restaurant. I recommend that you stay as far away from it as possible! Not only are their employees extremely rude and disrespectful. They don't even prepare the sandwiches properly. Go out of your way go anywhere, but don't go there. The gas is higher than anybody else by about $.10 per gallon. Do yourself a favor and shop and Weatherford. read more

We stopped in for a pit stop. Bathrooms were pretty clean and the store had a lot of items but sadly no fizzy water. We did grab some plantains and the employee was very friendly. We saw a restaurant inside so this was a pretty nice suprise. Next door is a cool antique store so check that out too. read more

Wow. I reviewed this place 10 years ago. Update! My favorite travel center on the way to DFW. It's 100 miles from home, so the perfect place to stop. There is a Taco Casa inside if you want some quick fast food. OR, the Maverick Grill has some great food. Mike and I love the steak fingers. And the cake is fantastic, except the size has shrunk a little lately. The convenience store side has everything you might want, and the bathrooms are always clean. Today they were packed. I was at the back of the line with my cup of coffee. As an employee walked by, she looked at my cup of coffee and said is that all your getting? I said yes, and she said take off, it's free! What a sweetheart! Always great service at Maverick. Things like that make you remember to stop here, not at the Megastop on the corner. Thanks Maverick! See you on the way home. read more

When traveling west on IH20 at the hwy. 281 exit go south for an eighth of a mile and Maverick is on your right. There is a walk up ordering. The menu is loaded with home style food and the dessert's are delicious. This visit we went for the burger and fries. I was shocked that the total for 3 people to eat was $47. We had a reg hamburger, a double burger, an order of cheese fries (small) and a chicken tender plate. Besides the price (which everyone has gone up) the hamburger needed more flavor. I drowned that thing in extra mustard and ketchup just to get something to give me a punch. The patty was thick, but it needed sone char, pepper, season-all......Something! Then there were the chicken tenders that were breaded wonderfully! --BUT--BUT--BUT--- they were not marinated or put in brine so they had no flavor. It was like chewing through the most basic chicken ever. It was so disappointing. My chicken-tender teen did not even finish 2 of the tenders. Waste of money, gonna have to pass this place next time and keep heading into Stephenville to eat lunch. read more

So we were invited to an early dinner here by family members who live in the area. We were totally shocked to see it's a gas station! Who eats dinner at a gas station! We ordered our food and we're still skeptical until....the food came out!!! I MEAN, WOW! The chicken sandwich's, the Cobb salad, the burger & fries...the pies! For a place so far out and off the beaten place, it is definitely a hidden gem from our usual stomping grounds and I will definitely be back!! All the fam was full, fat and happy! My wife and I frequent Maverick for lunch. The brisket quesadilla is great. However, I went there for breakfast and I requested a special order burrito. Im allergic to pork and wanted eggs not cooked with bacon grease. Not only did the cool refuse to make it, she told me I had to pick from the nasty burritos in the warmer. I usually don't write complaints, and I debated whether IRR not I should mention it. There are ALOT of peole in Eastland that don't eat pork for various reasons. Mostly because of nasty parasites. I won't be going back and glad there are more restaurants opening here in Eastland. I'm happy to see it grow. I'm an Arizona refugee and love it here. Stopped in here for a potty break. Super clean and people were very friendly. Plenty of fuel pumps and parking. Convenient on and off to the freeway. While there we got hungry smelling all the food from the grill so decided to split a burger. It was your standard burger but hot and tasty- needed a little more salt but otherwise good. We added a fried egg and I wished I had specified that I wanted it runny, because it was actually over hard. This is a good place to stop for a rest break or a quick meal. Food is a little pricey but for the location you won't find anything close that has this quality. read more

Huge portions and great tasting food are what you receive. We had the catfish sandwich, fries, chicken fried steak plate (it comes with salad, beans, Texas toast, pickles and onions and fries or boiled red skin potatoes), and it was only $23.11. The reason I knocked it by a star was the noise and cleanliness. Located in as a gas station stop not too far from the corner of 20 and 281, this place is pretty cool. Mix between a souvenir store and little eatery I was in need of some food after 9 pm which had a Taco Casa and then a Grill with a good selection of food. I opted for the Grill and ordered a the fried chicken sandwich. The place felt like a mom and pop operation. The little dining room felt a little out of place but hey I didn't mind. I took a seat and got my sandwich and it was pretty good for what it was. Fries were nothing to write home about but this is definitely a good stop if you're looking for a bite to eat and want to peruse the store. read more

I sincerely love this place and if it wasn't for the fact that they aren't open 24/7, I'd specifically ask for loads to Laredo or San Antonio just so we could eat their delicious catfish once again. Yes, I'm sure the burgers are fantastic and the Taco Casa isn't half bad either, but do yourselves a favor, and get the catfish with a side of boiled red potatoes and a piece of German chocolate cake. Also, you'll fall in love with the fried pickles, Italian cream cake, coconut cake and the homemade hush-puppies. THIS is the place to eat, my friends! I also really enjoy browsing the Texas-themed store as they sell homemade salsa, jam, beef jerky, candy and baked goods. My sister and her in-laws recommended we stop here to try the catfish. When I looked on the map and saw that it was marked as Mavericks travel center, I was not encouraged as most travel centers are not that nice and more geared towards truckers. I'm really glad we went. This is a home grown operation that has increased in size to a medium size place. It is a clean family oriented establishment. It sits on the south side of the intersection of Hwy 281 and interstate 20, near the Stripes convenience store. One half on the left is the café, the half on the right is a nice fun convenience store that also has home made goodies, salsas, hot sauces, knock knacks, baked items, and so forth. We started at the café. I ordered the catfish. It was delicious. It came with a healthy serving of fries. The tartar sauce was a normal mayonnaise-based tartar sauce, yet the red sauce was something a bit different and special. The red sauce I normally make and enjoy with seafood is a combination of horseradish, fresh lemon, and catsup or something similar. This was not like that. It was more like a puréed salsa that happened I have horseradish in it. We all agreed it was different and delicious. My brother-in-law ordered a chicken salad and he said it was delicious. I had tea to drink and it was strong, I mean very strong. If you enjoy a very strong clean tea, this is it. We placed our order at the counter, then find our seat. They delivered the food to us with a smile. The restaurant was clean and had a few funny things to note, which I put in my pictures. For example, the Boone & Crocket sandwich description that I took a picture of is absolutely hilarious and something we agree we want to go back and try someday. The idea of using two grilled cheese sandwiches as two slices of bread, so to speak, intrigues us. The sign posted by the register to stop here and get gas had a good homespun funny feel to it. There are other such touches around the place that lend to a warm atmosphere. Recommended. read more

My family & I stopped in here to get something to eat. Fun place to go into. We ordered two burgers & five kids chicken strip meals from a rather large menu with assorted down home foods. The staff is friendly & our food came out in a timely fashion & was the perfect temperature. Everything tasted really good. When you walk in the front door to the right is a dining area and around it is the convenient store with shopping items and to the left of the front door is the Maverick Grill and Taco Casa, and an eating area. it is a little confusing as to where you're supposed to sit. I asked around because by all the men who looked like truckers; I assumed that was a truckers only dining area to the right of the front door. but it is for anyone who eats there. We ate at Taco Casa. Good food as always! Piled high with cheese! My husband ran into a trucker he knew from work. I found purses and toys and brownies! Alas! I only recieved a brownie! Delicious brownie! The bathrooms were not so clean so I had to take off a star for that. We are thinking of stopping on the way home and trying out "The Boone and Crockett Burger". My husband and I were traveling through and stopped here for the last time. The cashier mocked us for being the only ones in there with a mask on. What's crazy is that technically we were wearing one to protect those around us including her. Too bad they can't do the same or at least keep their comments to their self . I got the grilled chicken club, it was very good. It took them a little while to get my sandwich but I guess that's because they are actually making it from scratch, not just having frozen stuff and heating it. Would definitely stop here again if I get to drive through here in the future. read more
