This place was very good. I had the Green Chile burger, excellent. We also had hot wings very good.

We ate here on their outdoor patio and were surprisingly pleased with how great the food was (it was one of the closest restaurants to where we'd been and chose it because of the higher Yelp rating). It's truly a hidden gem in a smaller town. My husband had the Beast burger with elk sausage on it and he claims it was one of the best burgers he's ever had. Been coming here for a few years now. Last night was good but left a bad taste (no pun). Food was great as usual. Green Chile is awesome and award winning. The jalapeño bombs were great. Bacon wrapped with cheese and wrapped in an egg roll shell. Really good. Would be 5 stars but what needed help was the service. Our waitress Jodie couldn't wait to turn our table. I maybe had 2 bites out of my burger and she asked if we needed a box to take everything home. ? Ok? The husband and I stopped into Maverick's to give a local place a try and man, it did not disappoint. The beer was cold, the Peach Fizz was strong, and the chips were salted perfectly. The husband is a connoisseur of chicken fried steak and gave Maverick's the thumbs up, though he says to go for the white gravy over the brown. I, on the other hand, am a Reuben Fanatic and while I can't partake in the Rye Bread, Maverick's did offer a Gluten Free option (Udi's) which worked well for me. The Reuben was delicious! Four stars because the steak fries had almost no flavor and husband said the onion rings were "just okay". BUT! If you're looking for good drinks, sincerely kind folks, and some good hearty food - stop into Maverick's! read more

Yelp helped me again! Up in Granby/winter Park and needed a place to eat... came across this local place, FILLED with locals having a good time. I had the Chicken Salad sandwich and my wife had the Rueben both were great. But the best part... the Green Chili. Spicy and awesome. Evidently it's won a bunch of awards. Really good. Wow. So much more than I ever expected. The green chili cheese fries may have been the best I have ever had in my entire life. I'm a fry guy, and I hate soggy chili cheese fries. I specifically asked if I should get the chili in on the side. And I was assured that chili on the fries was the way to go. The green chili was fantastic (best in state 2013), perfect chunks of pork, not runny, spices perfect and the fries were somehow crispy until the very last fry! I can't say enough. The wild game meat loaf was impeccable. Wrapped in bacon, sweet and salty. Brown gravy onion rings and spicy black beans on the side. Just perfect. They lack on draught beer. Maverick's has become one of our favorites. We trek out there every couple of months for their meatloaf. I am not a fan of meatloaf, but theirs is amazing. That's how good the food is. Yesterday was fantastic. Here's why. We were having lunch with our kids. They are generally fairly well-behaved, and they were doing a decent job of not being jerks at the table. We instilled table manners and the art of being good guests at an early age with them. There was a couple on a date at a nearby table. The man decided to moan to the waitress that there were children in the restaurant. Our waitress, being absolutely awesome, said to the man "This is a family restaurant. We welcome families. They include children." The wonderful angel of a woman has always given us great service. Yesterday was certainly no exception. read more

On the plus side: This restaurant has a Kid's Menu with plenty of kid choices. The regular menu has plenty of choices although mainly meat options. Our waitress was very nice to our kids and our food arrived very quickly which was great with the kids. On the down side: When we visited, there were quite a few drunk people in the bar and around out front. We waited 45 minutes for a table, and it wasn't worth that long of a wait. There isn't a lot of seating. Many of the employees smelled of cigarette smoke. The food was so fatty and salty, I felt sick the rest of the night. read more

This place worked well for our group, just a down home family restaurant. Not my favorite restaurant, but my grandparents loved it!

We loved the family friendly western atmosphere. Even had a great selection of O'Dell Beers (Colorado brewery). We had a flight of beer my wife and I shared. The portion sizes were great and three of us took home leftovers. The fried pickles with panko are AMAZING and so is the chipotle ranch dipping sauce! I had the wild game pineapple BBQ meatball sub with house chips. Wife had the Mary Jane Sandwich and she loved it. My boys had chicken strips with fries & we're happy and full. They even made chocolate milk for our boys. My nephew had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. The owners sister was helping out as a server for spring break our she was great and very attentive! If your looking for a family friendly place this is your spot for wonderful comfort food with a wild game flair for the more adventurous. This place would get 4 stars if it were in Denver, but in Granby I'm giving it 5! There's something about getting a very good burger with friendly service up in the mountains that just can't be matched anywhere else. We were looking for a place to eat in Granby after driving and hiking through Rocky Mountain National Park and the first couple of places we looked at didn't pass the "car" test. In case you aren't familiar with it, the "car" test is, "Are there a lot of cars parked out front?" There were a lot of cars and a lot of motorcycles. We received a friendly greeting and friendly service throughout the meal. The waiter said I chose his favorite burger, I forget exactly what it was, it seems like it had bacon, jalapenos and BBQ sauce. He even hung around for me to take my first bite to make sure I enjoyed it! Yumm! They had a very diverse menu, but it looked like everyone was ordering the burgers and sandwiches and staying away from the Rocky Mountain Oysters. There burgers are big at 8oz! They have a variety of meats: bison, elk, wild boar and it seems like something else. I was able to finish my plate although my love could not finish hers. Great value for the money. read more

We were very pleasantly surprised by Maverick's. They have a decent sized menu with a good variety. My daughter has several good allergies, and our waitress was very knowledgeable on the ingredients in the different dishes. She assured us that she spoke with the kitchen and that our daughter's food was allergen free. The food arrived quickly & was cooked perfectly. My husband and I stopped here for our late lunch/early dinner after our hike and were pleasantly surprised by this place. The burgers were the thickest I've had in a long time and had great flavor. The steak fries and onion rings are also delicious. Guinness was only $5.50! Good service for a local bar/restaurant. My only thing is that they serve Pepsi products instead of Coke. Food was good. Everything else was horrible. I ate (tried) here tonight with my wife and two young kids. A group of about six middle-aged, obnoxious, drunks we're at the bar (with a kid of their own). They were extremely loud (and their language was not what we want our kids to hear). The bartender finally told them to lower their voices, which they did for about two minutes. Soon they were back at it, plus throwing things at each other. Another family got tired of it and left about this time. I finally asked for takeout boxes, and the bartender said the group was about to be kicked out. By the time we boxed up our food, they were still there. I mentioned that we should get some compensation for the horrendous experience (that the staff did nothing to change), and the bartender rolled her eyes. Our two year old is more mature, and our four year old more polite, than the drunk group and staff here. $91 wasted. Absolutely will not be back. read more

Big chunks. Not mushy. Full of flavor. The green chili was really disappointing; tasted like pepper; no meat and the sauce had a flour taste to it. Not a fan Bathrooms could use a cleaning. In response to the "car test" one reviewer mentioned, yes there are lots of cars in the parking lot of Mavericks -- because everywhere else in the tiny town of Granby closes very early at night. The staff here are great -- very nice waitresses and hard-working. I don't fault them at all, but the fact is that the food is pretty low quality in most areas. They can cook burgers and make a pot of chili, and that's about it. If you're feeding kids and want to grab a burger cheap, just keep your expectations low. We had two families with us, on a busy night at this restaurant. It was "busy" because everywhere else in town was closed after 7PM (except for the Brick House place down the street, but we didn't want to pay $20 per entree) so we ended up here at Maverick's with everyone else. Most everything served in this restaurant is of the freezer-to-deep fryer variety. The "fries" they serve here are frozen-fried puffs of air, that were cold by the time they got to our table. I think they might have once been potatoes, but that is unclear. I apologized to the waitress, but said I couldn't eat the cold fries, she came back with a "warmer" plate and said "these are the hottest ones our chef has" -- which almost made me spit out my flat and watered-down soda. So I guess if I take something out of the freezer, fry it and throw it under a heat lamp, I too can be a "chef". Totally comical. The tomatoes on the standard burger are the cafeteria kind -- you know the ones: white in the center, hard as hockey pucks and tasteless. You also get the obligatory lettuce leaf, onion and pickle. Remember, it's the burgers where this place "shines". True to form, the kids mac-and-cheese is Kraft. Heaven forbid that this restaurant serve something that doesn't originate from a box. Frozen, fried, and out of the box, that's how this place rolls. Also, my wife is a vegetarian. There is almost nothing on the menu at this place that isn't infused with meat or cheese. She had guacamole and chips. I had a stomach-ache the next day from the food I ate here. I'm sure it was the over-used fryer oil that did it. We won't be going back. read more

Who would expect to have really good food in this little town? My past experience with restaurants in small town (especially resort towns) have been pretty bad. Usually I get mediocre food that cost a fortune. However, this is not the case with Maverick's Grille. We ordered the hamburger that's made with like 7 different kinds of meat and green chili soup. Everything was so delicious and fresh. The meat is cooked to perfection, not too dry and not too raw. The staff are very friendly and fast. We were looking for a simple lunch option near Snow Mountain Ranch which was not even serving their minimal soup and chili cafeteria option that weekday and though we usually head towards Winter Park, we thought we should give Granby a try. It is closer and one in our party wanted to head back to Snow Mountain rather than quit for the day and head for our lodging. With the help of Yelp of course, we found Maverick's Grille. Right on the road into Granby, plenty of parking and a friendly welcome. We were immediately told of the special sandwich of the day, grilled cheese with avocado and bacon and it sounded perfect for our needs. We all ordered it, 3 with the side salad, one with fries, which I intended to share. Drink options were simple, but the iced tea was fresh and tasty and huge, and at that altitude, I sure needed a decent amount of water intake with my lunch. The salads came out quickly and though simple, were fresh and everyone got the dressing they wanted. The sandwiches came soon after, ample avocado freshly sliced (not discolored at all) the bacon crispy, enough cheese and the bread grilled and well buttered. The fries were disappointing because they were the crusted type and I prefer fresh potatoes with skin on. They were hot and crispy, but honestly, we were all so full from the ample sandwiches and salads we didn't really need them. The sides were all included with the special, so it was worth the try. Our server was so friendly, a local welcoming some day visitors. We would absolutely eat here again on another visit to the area. read more
