Cheesesteak sandwich and tater tots
Jackie B.

Went here for lunch on a Tuesday. Lots of places not open mid-week. They are missing out on LOTS of business! Rockies was PACKED at noon! Servers, bar staff, cooks did amazing keeping up. Food was incredible as well. Waterfront burger was great. I didn't care for the tons of grilled onions on it. But that's a personal preference, and it easily comes off. I got the apple pecan salad as a side (no upcharge!!) and it's sooooo good!! Husband got the cheesesteak sandwich with tater tots. Best meal he had eaten on our 2 week road trip! Their sour was awesome too!

We popped in. Left after being seated. Tables weren't bussed, drunk locals at the bar. Overpriced. The place felt off. Went back to Sagebrush BBQ for the third time this weekend.

We sat outside at the bar and service was great. I loved the classic rock playing. Everything was great, including food. They have a dog friendly patio! I loved seeing everyone's pups (made me miss my dog). I think if you're coming out of the national park and find yourself in Grand Lake, I think this is a good spot for some food after a hike/drive. I got the BLT and it was delicious. My husband got a burger and he said it was pretty good. He had the plate clean.

I'm not sure if they normally serve breakfast but it was good! The service was quick and super friendly. An easy stop before starting the Memorial Day weekend

$18 for this grilled cheese which is supposed to have 4 different kinds of cheese.

The staff at Rockies were very friendly and let us change tables to a shadier spot but it all went downhill from there. Our server started off strong by confirming our order and asking if we're ok with the charcuterie coming out first - which we were ok with. Our drinks came out relatively fast, then our food took over an hour. We didn't mind waiting but our server never came to check on us and we wanted another round of drinks. We flagged down another server who said she would find ours. Shortly after that our server emerged, didn't make eye contact with us and walked right past us - three times! The other server checked on us twice before our server came to get our drink order. Why didn't SHE just take our order?? So frustrating. She did eventually take our order. 20 minutes later, the other server came by to ask if we were ok. We said we didn't have drinks and she asked what we ordered. At that point she told us one of the beers we ordered is out of stock. Why didn't our waitress tell us this in the first place? She did say she would take the beer, which we appreciated. Finally our food came out, but not the charcuterie. They couldn't tell us which burger was medium vs medium rare. The tater tots were overcooked and crumbled at our finger tips. The grilled cheese sounded great but lacked cheese and it wasn't fully melted. When we asked for the bill, our server told us she needed to take my card and run it inside. Despite my reservations, I agreed. When I got the receipt I saw that we were charged for the beer that was not in stock. That was the last straw- I asked for the manager (which I never do). The bartender told me he was cooking and offered to help. I let him know the whole story and the hostess (who was so sweet) heard and took over. She not on refunded the beer but gave a us a 50% discount. While that was very nice and she apologized profusely, I cannot recommend this place. Perhaps they are working out some kinks but they definitely have issues.

Great patio with live music for the 4th of July! Great service! The food was just ok. My husband had the mushroom Swiss burger and I had the chicken kabobs with rice and plantains. The chicken was good but the portion was small for how much the dish cost. The rice was under cooked. The plantains were very delicious!

Food was ok but the service was extremely slow. It was however lunchtime on the July 4th weekend, but we waited over half an hour for the food to arrive at our table.

Have been in this area many times over the years, but never ate here and gave it a try. The inside is nothing to write home about. It certainly needs a good cleaning and update. Our server was not doing a great job as we waited for everything. The menu is varied, with appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and a few entrees. At 1 pm they were out of their elk sausage soup. We decided to share the wonton appetizer, which came out quickly and was good. Ham and cheese were hot and gooey and the guacamole dipping sauce was good. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries for my meal, which came out cooked at the right temperature and the fries were good. Why 3 stars? Service wasn't good, flies were all over, and our lunch was $75. I don't think I have ever eaten an $18 cheeseburger before. I have had $10 burgers which were just as good. I know this is a tourist spot, but we paid more for our meal here than anywhere we did in Denver.

Atmosphere - Just OK. The restaurant is on the small side and some of the tables are picnic tables and bench seating. Service - Disappointing. Our server paid little to no attention once our food was delivered. Food - Good. My wife and I shared a fried wonton with ham and cheese appetizer, which was great. I ordered the Double American Cheeseburger. The patties are 5 oz each and so the protein on a double is substantial. The hamburger was cooked to order and the house sauce tasty. The French Fries were decent. The bun was fairly fresh. Overall Value - Average. My burger and fries alone were priced at $22. Yes, the meal was good and it is a tourist town. However, the restaurant atmosphere is lousy and the prices are more than I would consider being a decent value.

Poke bowl. Pink lighting is from the red umbrella above ;). I enjoyed this!

A $24 dollar burger is....ridiculous. While the burger was good, $24 bucks was not commensurate with the food.

Food and service were both great. We were a "needy" party of 8 and they handled us with no issues. Friendly fast service.

I was told 15 to 20 minutes and arrived right at the 20 minute mark, but it was obvious the pizza had been sitting there much longer. It was served up ice cold. Even the dollops of ricotta tasted like they were added after the pizza was made, straight from the refrigerator. I am not exaggerating when I say ice cold, despite parts of the pizza being burnt. The edges of the crust were burnt, not in a good wood fired way with flavor, but just hard, overcooked, and inedible. While the toppings were generous, the pizza itself was extremely dry, just like others have mentioned. As I waited, I could see into the kitchen and noticed they were using pre made crusts, basically the kind you would grab at a grocery store when you do not feel like making your own. Charging $47 for that? No thanks. I hate wasting food, but we could not even finish this pizza. It was that bad. That is on me for not checking reviews beforehand. We should have just stuck with our usual spot, Grand Pizza, which happened to be closed for mud season. The difference in quality is night and day. I just want to warn others before they make the same mistake and waste their money like I did. Definitely will not be back.

Fantastic service (Josh is the greatest), fantastic food, and fantastic drinks, you're going to struggle to have a bad time here. BONUS: They have a walk up window outside for drinks and food during the day! Everything on the menu is fantastic and little vacation within itself. It gets crazy busy, but they move the menu quickly and it won't be long before you are sitting down. For the win: Grab a Colorado Bulldog or Craft Beer to start. Hot Choccy for the kids. First bites are the Elk Chili or the Buffalo Wings, the biggest and meatiest wings you will ever see. For dinner, try the Short Rib Ragout or the Prime Dip. For dessert, the Crème Broulee is a can't miss'

Woo, okay this is going to be a long one…read more... Bluebird bistro was a rollercoaster ride, starting with a frustrating welcome. We called ahead to see if they could accommodate our group of (14). The "helpful" person on the phone offered two options: 1. We could be seated separately at different tables right away OR 2. Wait about an hour for one large table. We decided to go with option 1. Arrived at the restaurant just 5 mins later (we were literally already down the road), only for that exact person to tell us when arriving a completely different story. She claimed that we didn't call her back to let her know we were on our way... ? .... Therefore she had no wait time for us and didn't know how long it'll be.. uh? Ok? We were all confused, and frustrated. As we talked amongst ourselves in the waiting area, we decided we were going to take our business elsewhere..... well what do you know suddenly a table was ready for us. At this point, it was getting late, chilly and hangry. We decided to stay and give it a try. And honestly I'm happy we did because we were blessed with a waitress named Kendra, who was phenomenal! Kendra transformed our experience, her service was top-notch. When a few people in our group were not happy with their drinks/orders, she quickly took the items off the check and brought out replacements. I had ordered the elote nachos, and they arrived without queso, instead of just bringing a side of cheese, Kendra took the entire plate back and returned with a fresh, hot order made correctly. Let's talk FOOD: Honestly it was mostly a hit. My margarita pizza was delicious. the ingredients tasted incredibly fresh, and the balsamic drizzle was a perfect touch. The others in our group were happy with their pizzas, wings, burgers, and steaks. Even the kids seemed pretty happy with their basic chicken fingers and fries( lol ) .... I was told the only miss were the fish tacos, which were on the dry side, and my elote nachos. While the nachos were good, they didn't have much of the classic "elote" I was hoping for like the crumbles of cheese, sauce etc... Overall, it was a decent spot, and thanks to Kendra, our meal/experience was really SAVED. I took off stars because again while the food was generally good, the confusing and unwelcoming check-in process was a major let down.

All of this review is written to improve future dining experiences for others. The historic rapids lodge restaurant is trying to be a fine dining experience when they don't have the front of house service, nor kitchen experience to hold that standard that they are having you pay for. ($82 ribeye, $21 deviled eggs, etc..) It is a beautiful venue on the river I will give it that. We also had a LARGE party, and I recognize fully how difficult that can be, but it was my sister in laws engagement day and celebration. We tried to set our reservation months in advance (as we were a LARGE party and wanted them to be prepared) and they didn't respond to our several calls until a month before (not bad), then the night of the event they were not even close to prepared. The host walked us into the restaurant without the tables set up, WE had to help set them up because they didn't know how many were in our party nor how to seat us. We didn't get silverware until we asked twice, we didn't have enough water for 20 minutes, we didn't get menus after sitting at the table. Those are the base line issues that any restaurant should have down, especially one with this price tag. The fine dining issues I want to mention, they don't have wine menu's to pair their food with. We never had enough bread for the 17 of us (we got a quarter loaf at a time). I see the owners vision, and he tried to make up for the mistakes with free sides and dessert, but while he was a pretty good host I don't think he has the staff to accomplish a fine dining experience. Overall, disappointing experience for the price point, and mid tier experience for a dining experience at one quarter the price point. To the restaurant, meet the bare minimum before you try to charge $100 a head. Get a wine list and prepare your waiters when you're charging $24 a glass. Train your staff to care about the menu and know what they're talking about with food and wine pairings. I know it's not denver, so if you can't find people like this in grand lake or train them yourself, LOWER YOUR PRICE POINT and change your business plan to upscale casual. Please. P.S. We still tipped 20+%, but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone until they try to adjust their business plan.
