I brought my car in because one tire had a SLOW leak in it. (down 4-5 psi every 3 weeks). I waited 90 minutes (with an appointment) for the tire to be repaired. Three days later, the same tire has a ,AJOR leak, down 8 psi in 3 days! so not only did they either not patch the tire or patched the wrong spot but they made the problem much worse! This is supposed to be a company that specializes in tires, and they can't get a simple repair right? in 90 minutes? Completely dissatisfied, and I would recommend ANY other tire store before Mabis. read more

Be extremely cautious with this Mavis or any other Mavis. The manager and assistant manager of the Vestal location attempted to rob me of 400 dollars by telling me I needed stuff fixed that was completely fine as sworn by an honest mechanic. The manager and assistant manager of this location tried telling me my back brakes and rotors were bad and needed to be fixed that second. I am so thankful for the honest mechanic I brought the vehicle to after the Mavis crooks. Both the manager and assistant manager of this location deserve prison time for their outrageous lies. The employees will go along with the scam too, trust nobody employed by Mavis. I knew someone that works at this location and they were nothing but excuses when I confronted them for what happened. They even tried saying that's why I've been at the front street Mavis lately, like I'd forgotten they were there smiling with the people trying to rob me the day they tried to rob me. There was also another review posted yesterday, that I'm pretty sure it's a Mavis employee trying to burry my review from being on top. I heard the assistant manager mention at one point that was he was personally trying to do as many google reviews as possible because it's good for their business so I would take most reviews with a grain of salt. The manager of this location also stole my VW beetle wheel cover at one point too, after mentioning his kid has the same car with the same missing cover. The manager of this location needs to be jailed. I also saw the manager of the location creepily hit on a younger woman one time when I walked in for an appointment. That girl had no appointment and he gave her my appointment even though she literally just barely beat me in the door. This caused me to wait for a ridiculous amount of time all because he wanted to be super creepy and hit on the girl. I gave a negative internal survey back to Mavis about the manager creepily hitting on that girl and giving my appointment away. That could be related to why he felt compelled to try to rob me for $400 most recently. That's a stretch though and I think the manager and assistant manager are just trying to rob people all day long. I hope you both get the jail time you rightfully earned. read more

Went in for an oil change. They changed the oil and said the car wouldn't start. Said starter was bad and replaced it. Still wouldn't start. Claimed transmission was bad. Cost $442.80. Took it to my regular mechanic and they found that the starter wasn't installed right and the ground wire was not tightened down. Cost $244.13. Give these guys a 3.5. Service is always greats me the guys are always nice! 5 stars for that. But every time I'm there it literally takes ALL day long. First time I dropped off to wait, they said an hour for tires, dropped off at ~10am and didn't get done till 5-6pm. Last time I went there was the same way. I was told come early and I'd be the first car in. I was sitting in the parking lot for an hour (staff told me they open an hour before they did) and was the second person in the door. (Checked in at ~9am). After waiting I got picked up at 11:30 as my car wasn't touched yet. Finally called at like 4pm and they said they just finished. Again service is always done great and staff are kind and knowledgeable, just know to leave your car as it's an all day affair. read more

I had an "idiot light" come on at 5:30 on a Friday night, traveling to the Catskills for a weekend of hiking/vacation with my 2 young children, and dog. Stopped in Whitney point to put air in my tire and saw 'it'... a shiny metal object in my tire. Had my daughter google tire shops and found we were 15 minutes from Mavis. I called, since they were closing soon, I explained where I was, how long I would be, what I needed, and that I was traveling- I was told "yes, we can help you", so I drove right there. I was not only taken care of at 5:45 on a Friday night (closing at 6), but got the best service from Marc and his tech I've received anywhere. They had my kids and I (safely) back on the road in under 20 minutes. Marc was so kind, and courteous it restored my faith in humanity. I was desperate, they helped, and I am eternally grateful. Found this place when travelling in upstate NY as I knew I needed four tires, immediately. I called the telephone number and asked for a certain tire - the top rated Michelin tire. The helpful staff told me that he didn't have those in stock but did have the 2nd rated tire, according to Tire Rack, in stock and could fit me in. I timed the appointment as to when I'd be passing through Binghampton, on my way to Syracuse. I arrived and they immediately pullled the car in. This company and this store in particular have restored my faith in humanity. Seriously! Unlike other (downright predatory) muffler shops that try to take advantage of you and sell you things that you don't need, Mavis always gives you the honest truth and saves you money. I have had work done here several times and was always happy with the price and the quality of the work done. In addition to exhaust work, I also had them replace a transmission seal on one of my cars after my regular mechanic was unable to get to it (leaving us stuck for two days.) They got me in the same day and an hour or so later we were driving down the road. Best of all - their price was actually LESS than what my regular mechanic was going to charge me. I know it sounds like I am gushing, but I can't say enough good things about them. Their manager Chad is cool and will take good care of you and your car. They take for ever to do anything Dropped my car off at 2:53. For an oil change and tire rotation. I was told it would be ready around 4 o'clock. I returned. My car was finally ready at 5:37. Every time I have been there they take forever. I complained n got 20% off my oil change when I got home my car was smoking. The next day my car was leaking oil I took the car back and they tightened the filter to much and my car was leaking oil. They fixed it immediately and gave me two free oil changes. I went to Mavis Reynolds Rd Johnson City mid September. I have been a customer at Mavis for years and have them take care of about 10 cars. This time there was a temporary manager, Tom. I went in for oil change on my car. Tom refused to give me my fleet price for oil change. I told him to go ahead anyway and he said something that sounded very rude so I told him to tear up the order and keep his oil. He does not want my business. Since then I have had 10 oil changes, 7 tires, struts, tie rod, axle, wheel bearing and other repairs. NONE of this was done at Mavis since they do not want my business any more. A year ago I added up what I spent at Mavis and it came to about $13,000. I feel they have lost a good customer - wonder how many others Tom lost for Mavis. read more

My daughter went in because she notice a screw head sticking out of her tread...Mavis of Johnson City told her that she should buy 2 new tires at a cost of $230.00 and never looked at the problem...She left there and went over to another shop...The tech pulled the car in and pulled the screw head out of the tire...there was no issue with the tire because the screw was less than a quarter inch...I gave the Tech $10 for taking the time to save my daughter $230... I used to go to Mavis on Front Street, Binghamton, NY and have left favorable reviews in the past, however, they have put 4 power steering pumps on my car in approximately the past 6 months and the noise is still there. Finally I took my car to our local mechanic who determined that not only was my power steering system not flushed ( they flushed it twice) but all of the pumps that were replaced by Mavis were put on the same old reservoir. I was forced to spend the money to have another steering pump with a new reservoir installed on my car along with flushing the system again and now my car has absolutely NO noise coming from the power steering pump. I feel a lot more confident taking my car to a mechanic that has the same person working on my car at all times. Thanks Tony at Wrench's in Greene, NY.
