Here's a clean, strong review version you can post: Back at the beginning of February, we took my wife's SUV to Mavis Discount Tire in Vestal, NY for four new tires. They were the cheapest option we found at $850. While the vehicle was there, they told us a sway bar link was broken and charged an additional $250 to fix it. About a month later, the car started making a loud, obnoxious banging noise. It briefly went away, then came back again a couple of weeks later. We brought it back to Mavis because it seemed related to the repair they had done. They told us the part they installed had failed, but that it was covered under warranty. We picked the car up the following Friday, and the noise was still there. They then said their "mechanic" needed to look at it, but he wouldn't be in until Wednesday. After dropping it off again, they called and claimed the issue was a bad strut mount and quoted us another $1,250. Instead of moving forward with that, I took the vehicle to Weaver's in Owego for a second opinion. Within minutes, they found the real issue -- the sway bar was loose. The same part Mavis supposedly fixed. I brought the receipt from Weaver's back to Mavis and asked to be reimbursed for their improper repair. When I followed up days later, I was told they were "too busy" to look into it. After making it known in their waiting room what had happened, they suddenly refunded me $111 -- but then told me to "get the F out" and not come back. They failed to properly complete their own repair, misdiagnosed the issue, tried to upsell an unnecessary $1,250 fix, and handled the situation in an extremely unprofessional manner. I will never use Mavis again and strongly recommend others think twice before trusting them with their vehicle. read more

GO ANYPLACE ELSE!! I've gotten tires from them in the past without issues. Then I bought all around suspension, alignment. I started hearing a knocking sound when going over bumps. Brought it back. and their mechani (I mean, he must have ben a mechanic; he had tattoos and smoked cigarettes!) said there was a heat shield on the exhaust that was rubbing so he bent it. The problem persisted, so I took it to the dealer, and was able to explain the issue directly to the mechanic. He called a short while and said it was fixed. I was sold a bad shock, so he replaced it. I asked him how he knew. He said "I took the shock out and drove around the parking lot an the problem was gone." A real mechanic... Anyway I needed a state safety inspection and figured they couldn't screw that up, so I made the appointment. They said it would take an 1 to 1 1/2 hrs. because they were short staffed. isn't that why you make an appointment? So I watched them pull my car in put it on the lift, take the tires off, and it sat un-touched for forty minutes. So they were right. An inspection that should take 30 to forty minutes, took an hour an a half. Plus, the "mechanic" had an attitude because he knew I was watching him through the "provided" window, so he purposely left the old adhesive, and mounted the new sticker on a VERY lop-sided angle so I have to look at it until next year when I can bring it to a reputable place. read more

YouTubed a customer absolutely screwed by the Management at the Vestal location. Broken swaybar link, ($15cost) charged $200 to replace. Broke again,....reluctantly replaced and again, a third time of noise. They didn't install it correctly nor tightened it down. Management literally told him to "Get the F out of here" just a heads up of the quality of customer service if THEY misdiagnosed your car. read more

Against my wishes, my husband took my car here for an oil change and whoever did the work didn't properly (according to the mgr.) screw in the oil filter causing at least a quart of oil to leak in my garage. I was told they fixed the problem and cleaned up my car for which I will have to take their word for it because I'm not about to crawn under my car. So naturally I'm a bit suspicious. I was also given a hand written coupon which may or may not be valid 3 months down the road if that manager still works there, also I'm pretty sure I have no confidence in the shop. I had to spend $30 on kitty litter and pine sol and do the labor on a stain which will most likely never come totally clean. read more

i've been going to this Mavis location for many years and I've always had great service. Through multiple oil changes and car inspections and brake repair and tire getting new tires. The team there always gets it right. They are competent and I feel like they do the right thing by their customers. read more

Today I had to come in and get a TPS changed, another one checked, 2 new tires, and the spare put back in the trunk... They got it all done! I'm am glad that I found this location last week when the bolt went through the tire! So far between both locations, and now dealing with 2 of the managers, this place imo is AWESOME! First time customer. I recently needed new run flat tires (4) put on my car. They were quick giving me a good price, getting the tires and did a good job installing them. Be extremely cautious with this Mavis or any other Mavis. The manager and assistant manager of this location attempted to rob me of 400 dollars by telling me I needed stuff fixed that was completely fine as sworn by an honest mechanic. The manager and assistant manager of this location tried telling me my back brakes and rotors were bad and needed to be fixed that second. I am so thankful for the honest mechanic I brought the vehicle to after the Mavis crooks. Both the manager and assistant manager of this location deserve prison time for their outrageous lies. The employees will go along with the scam too, trust nobody employed by Mavis. I knew someone that works at this location and they were nothing but excuses when I confronted them for what happened. They even tried saying that's why I've been at the front street Mavis lately, like I'd forgotten they were there smiling with the people trying to rob me the day they tried to rob me. There was also another review posted yesterday, that I'm pretty sure it's a Mavis employee trying to burry my review from being on top. I heard the assistant manager mention at one point that was he was personally trying to do as many google reviews as possible because it's good for their business so I would take most reviews with a grain of salt. The manager of this location also stole my VW beetle wheel cover at one point too, after mentioning his kid has the same car with the same missing cover. The manager of this location needs to be jailed. I also saw the manager of the location creepily hit on a younger woman one time when I walked in for an appointment. That girl had no appointment and he gave her my appointment even though she literally just barely beat me in the door. This caused me to wait for a ridiculous amount of time all because he wanted to be super creepy and hit on the girl. I gave a negative internal survey back to Mavis about the manager creepily hitting on that girl and giving my appointment away. That could be related to why he felt compelled to try to rob me for $400 most recently. That's a stretch though and I think the manager and assistant manager are just trying to rob people all day long. I hope you both get the jail time you rightfully earned. read more

I have used them in the past, I would never use them again. I went there for a NY State inspection. I had an appointment for 2pm that was made 5 days prior. After arriving on time, they kept me waiting for 2.5 hours and several other customers arrived after me were taken care of with later scheduled appts (3pm and so on). I know nothing about cars and fair prices (sad to say I fit the stereotype of women who are more likely to be taken advantage of and be over charged- the last tire place I went to didn't tell me I could keep my old tires) these guys were great- upfront and definitely gave me a low price and awesome customer service. We needed a tire change and it was 5:48pm all I look for closed at 6pm. Called here and they said bring it in the bays were full but they would get to us tonight before they closed at 8:30. They could have said sorry not tonight as others said but didn't . We needed it done as wife has to be in Syracuse tomorrow morning for cancer treatment. I'd recommend here to everyone. I have used then in the past, I would never use them again. They messed up my repair, and when I asked what they were going to do to resolve it, they said they would give me a voucher, just come back to the store. I drove down, only for them to say that they changed their mind. Ultimately, I called corporate and they offered a voucher to return. I got here at 11:30 for a free tire rotation with a coupon. There is 1 car in the shop with 4 bays left open. There is no cars in the lot which makes me think in and out. Well manager said we will get it in as soon as someone is free. ???? Really!!! There is between 5 and 8 employees including the manager. Ok ok be patient I'm thinking. Well it is noon and they just pulled my vehicle in. I guess in a nut shell if you are not spending a lot of $$$$ for repairs you will be waiting awhile, at least at this shop. I came back here after my last review to let them redeem them selves but in my opinion they failed once again. Work requested was to swap summer tires for winter tires. Shop manager called and recommended front brake be replaced (85 to 90% pad wear). Car had just been inspected by a different shop 2 months earlier with no issues. I declined the additional brake replacement repair. Picked up the vehicle. On the drive home the tire air pressure indicator light came on. It was not on prior to the tire swap. Returned to the Vestal Mavis shop. Was told that both rear pressure sensors were bad and would cost $160 for repair. Shop would not cover the cost of the repair. I did not have the sensors replaced and have contacted the corporate customer service group. Recommend that you not use this shop. I will not use them again. read more

Wish I could give less than one... they did my brakes back in October... at that time they told me I needed a wheel bearing and sway bar replacement.... couldn't manage the extra at that time so I delayed....THANK GOD neither of these two things are needed... my tires are out of round... have found a reliable and truthful mechanic.... they never bled the brake lines so even though I had new breaks they never responded like they should have... I refused to go back... best decision ever read more

I was a long term customer of this Vestal Mavis locale. Spent thousands of dollars over a several year period with this Mavis. Damaged my interior during a tire change over. Put my summer tires mounted on rims (winter change over of 4 tires) on my rear leather seats...after I told them at least 2 times... NOT TO PUT THEM IN MY CAR (I would pick them up later w/my wife's SUV). Causing a 3"+ tear in the right rear seating panel. Admitted the damage. Said they'd get some resolve on the matter...never did! After repeated calls and just "excuses & promises" over almost a 2 month period, including several calls to the local manager...I contacted the corporate office. Got some run-around with them also. The regional manager offered me less than 1/2 of the cost of the repair in "store credit"...I said no! He then offered me only 1/2 the repair $$$ in payment...I again said no. He said that it was his final offer. I told him I'd take them to Small Claims Court...he said "Go ahead"! Well...I did and WON! Won by default...they did not show up! Now they claim they were never notified of the court proceedings and want a re-trial!!! They were given, by court order, 30 days to pay up. It's been 38 days now. Now...More excuses and stall tactics! They will NEVER get any of my hard earned $$$'s again! I'd tell anyone to stay away from this Vestal Mavis and really any Mavis as it would seem that "Corporate" is not so interested in keeping their loyal customers. At least not one's who complain. BTW... I see on the last few 5 Star reviews...Mavis Management were quick to "Thank" whomever for the 5 Stars. I see no replies on the low star ratings...one's like mine. read more

It's a waiting game every single time! I had an appointment for 4pm for a simple inspection and I say simple because I have a newer vehicle and keep up on all maintenance but I've been sitting here for over an hour and they still have not even moved my vehicle. What's the point of an appointment time when I still have to wait an hour? Meanwhile a couple of the workers are just talking and telling stories, another guy sitting on his phone when I arrived. This was not the first time I have waited for an appointment here , just to get my vehicle pulled into the garage. It happens every single time. I just wish I didn't waste my money on tires here because the only reason I come back is for the warranty and tire rotation. read more

I got a flat on my boat trailer while traveling to go hunting and fishing outside Corning NY. I put my spare on and quickly found Mavis DT on my phone. I walked in and was back on the road in less than 30 minutes. They took my spare off and mounted my new tire. Very good customer service. Brought my car in for an oil change and told the guy in the office that I was 99% sure I needed break pads and possibly rotors. I left my vehicle there and received a call from them about an 90min later letting me know my oil change was done and my car was ready to be picked up. They also informed me that my brake pads and rotors were fine and the intermittent squeaking I had been hearing wasn't anything to be concerned about. I was pretty pleased that they didn't take advantage of the fact that I was completely expecting and was prepared to pay for the brake service. When I arrived to get my vehicle I thanked the manager (I wish I could remember his name but I'm terrible with names!) for their honesty and told him how impressed I was with the prompt and friendly service I received which must've flattered him because he gave me quite a discount on the oil change which he didn't have to do since I already planned on using them for future repairs... but it was very much appreciated!!! I can't speak for all Mavis locations as this is the only one I've been to but I highly recommend Mavis Vestal! read more

I started coming here in like 1975, they replaced our exhaust on our AMC Gremlin and did it for less than half the price of Midas! I have used them for my exhaust work exclusively ever since. I price them out with a local parts store and it's just not worth me doing it myself. They have replaced mufflers only under warranty with no charge several times. One year on pipes, lifetime on mufflers. When they do warranty parts, you only pay for labor. They have fixed many other aspects of my car too, suspension parts; brakes and tires. Get an estimate beforehand, they will stand by that price. First come, first serve, no appointments unless you leave it there. They will call for an OK before doing work. All around, I really have very few complaints, they honestly try to make things good! read more

Took my car in for service and was told that I had something other than power steering fluid in my car based on the manager showing what he said was contaminated fluid. Not knowing he was lying, I had him change the fluid for $59. Something seemed familiar about this whole business so I looked through old receipts and found he had done the same thing to my wife just 3 months earlier!
