You cannot make an appointment online with Clinton STS. They do not have email, so they don't know that you have submitted a request for an appointment. Since I could not make an appointment, I was just going to take my car to my dealer. I took a chance and gave STS a call and they took me right away. I was in and out in a jiffy. Our tire blew Sunday afternoon on 78. Took the car to Mavis for a quick tire change. Arrive at 4:40, the shop closes at 5:00. Group of techs refused to change tire. We are from out of state with no other options. Poor customer service, did not want to make a sale, rude and inconsiderate. Will never go to another Mavis. read more

Don't waste your time here. They had my vehicle for 2 days for a flat tire and when I finally called to ask for an update, they told me its been ready. I went to pick up the car and the tire is still flat, exactly the same as when I dropped it off. People on the phone were incredibly rude and couldn't care less. read more

I always took my car to this location when it was STS, unfortunately since switching over to Mavis this location has gone down hill. I've given them a few tries and had problems with both tires and brakes. In both cases the people there have done repairs that haven't fixed the problems I brought the car in for and I've had to argue and spend thousands of dollars in repairs that probably did not need to be done. It's unfortunate because I did like that location, and use them for at least a decade when they were STS. I think a lot of the managers that run the desk are the same however the quality of the work and the integrity of the people have definitely gone downhill. read more

This was so bad! Called in the morning for an oil change. No problem! Given a work order number. Arrived around noon. Was told within the hour. We went to lunch. Back to Mavis. Told we were next in line. Waited another hour. Others came and went. My husband went to the counter, asked for the keys. Was handed the keys, no inquiry as to why. No apology. NADA! Dropped off Ford Explorer at 8. Asked for an oil change and to check the brakes. Also was hoping to fix the door ajar light. Haven't been able to work the windows for some time now. Also the driver's side window was open about an inch. (Not comfortable in the past rainy, windy, snowy week!!). Car was done in a timely manner. Unfortunately the wire requires a dealer or garage repair. Boooo. So I was worried about passing inspection (due this month). Thankfully they were able to close the window. I had to get an alternator replaced and they wanted to charge me $800. Midas wanted to charge $500. And I was able to find a local garage do it for $300. In December it took them 2 weeks to fix my car because they kept ordering the wrong part or the part was "lost and delayed". Go somewhere else read more

Tom is extremely knowledgable and friendly. Fast and Accurate service..although minor oversight this most recent trip. Was having a number of items serviced on one of our vehicles. Tire Rotation, Balancing, Oil / Filter, and Transmission Service. I left the shop, entered the highway, and noted a shake in the wheel. Come to find out they forgot to balance...they were very accomodating, and apologetic, and immediately 'jumped' on the car upon my return. No big deal. Overall, very good shop. It is quite busy on Saturdays. The line up begins around 6:30 AM out the door. Just a warning...I would recommend to others. read more

Completely dishonest. My husband took his car there for a rattle in the exhaust in March of this year. Even though they they fixed something that was lose under the car (more than likely heat shield) they told him that not only did he need a complete new exhaust system (even though they replaced the catalytic converter in November) and but also new struts. We told them no and that we were going to sell the car. We felt that they were lying to us and wanted to get another opinion. We took his vehicle to another shop on Route 22 for them to say NOTHING was wrong with either of these things. Very unethical and not trust worthy. I will never take either of my cars there again. read more

Sorry, but I'm usually very fair with people about things, but this place is the worst. I've not the energy or time to go into great detail, but I will tell you that they try to sell you things not needed, and just now wouldn't give me a price on a new car battery when I called on the phone. They said it's $10 more than what the battery costs, but couldn't tell me now much it was. I replied that I Googled it and I knew what the general price is, so why don't they after I give them the make and model of the car? Try this yourself to confirm. Mavis is only good for tires and oil changes now. For decades my family had been going to this location for all repairs and maintenance for our vehicles. When STS was purchased by Mavis, things gradually began to turn downhill in the quality department of their work. They also lost their ability to properly diagnose issues with my SUV. This summer I was given a quote of $3,800 to repair my exhaust from the engine back. Hesitant to dump that kind of money into an older vehicle, I was assured that it would be a sound investment by Thad to make that repair based on how solid everything else was on my car. He also told me that getting a new vehicle would be silly since they, "make them out of glue and plastic now." After agreeing to the work for around $3k, I got a call a few days later to hear "good news, we were able to do the job properly for $2,000." They replaced the exhaust from the y pipe back and put my old O2 sensors back into the exhaust. I picked up the car, paid and was going to get inspected and travel to NH. Check engine light comes on immediately after leaving. Not sure if anyone actually road tested my car after repairs, but I doubt it. Soon I can hear another exhaust leak. We have to leave for our planned trip and do so the next day. We go to fill our tank and for the first time ever (coincidence or not) the tank will not take gas. We had to fill up at 1 gallon every 5 min for one week. We return to hear that a valve relay sensor has to be replaced in my tank as they fix the exhaust leak (poor seal). Not trusting their workmanship, I take my car to the dealer and get my work done there for the gas tank. Still needing to pass my inspection, the check engine light comes on AGAIN (mind you, it NEVER went on until Mavis touched my car - even when my exhaust blew the first time). I take it back again to Mavis b/c they have warranted their work. They end up having to replace one of my old O2 sensors. Needless to say, after 4 trips to Mavis and one to the dealer and $2,500 later, I passed inspection. Three weeks ago, I sheepishly brought my car in to get an oil change before a road trip and my check engine light was on AGAIN. Some unpleasant man told me over the phone that I had very loose ball joints in the front and needed to replace my tie rods at the tune of another $1,800 and I needed to replace ANOTHER O2 sensor. I declined the work, and took my car to a local recommended shop: Russ's Wrench. They did a thorough diagnostics and found so many more issues, and found that only half of what Mavis proposed was correct. They also saw that they missed the rear ball joint needing repairs too. I was given a comprehensive Review with photos and was advised not to invest more money into a dying car, and purchased a new suv last week. I am not quite sure how I went from Thad at Mavis telling me my car was "solid" 4 months ago to being told that I have a vehicle that is not safe to drive, and in such poor shape that I need not repair it. Mavis, I am so frustrated with your location in Clinton. That was hard earned money down the drain. I will never be back. Mark, you were pleasant to work with, and I don't think you knew of my overall vehicles health. I don't like to beat up hard working people, but buyer beware and always get a second opinion. read more

I am so impressed with STS Clinton, so much better than going to the dealership. Early this week I stopped by and asked about my tire pressure (the warning light was on) and Nathan came out and spent a good 5 minutes checking everything for me and he would not take payment or even a gratuity. This morning, I returned just dropping in at 7:00 without an appointment and they took care of everything at a nominal cost. I appreciate how professional and friendly everyone I met was and I will continue to be a customer there! read more

Called on Monday to schedule an appointment for new tires. Dropped off Saturday morning and my car was not ready by the end of the day. I went Sunday morning to get it and the battery was dead. They made me hang out for 30 minutes and then tried to sell me a battery. The battery is fine, they must have left lights on. Coming straight from a friend who has worked there before (and my personal experience of course)--if you just want a quick oil change, they will try their hardest (with no shortage of creativity) to find something else wrong with your car, and it will at least run you an extra $200+. Not only that, but god are they disorderly. Appointments are scoffed at even though other Mavis' are happy to take them. I am a senior citizen 70 years old. My cars A/C unit stopped working. I brought it to Mavis Tires in Clinton, NJ. My Godchild who lives in Clinton always raved about their 6 month payment policy, when it was STS. The salesman said it would cost me $1,113.00 plus tax. I was shocked and told him I would have to think it over, so it cost me $160.00 for checking the A/C. A couple of days later I went to a mechanic in Jugtown, NJ, asked for an appointment. My A/C unit was totally repaired for only $425.00, I would NEVER RECOMMEND Mavis Tire in Clinton, NJ. NOBODY takes advantage of me!!! YOU JERK! read more

My family and I have been coming to this location and the Flemington one for years now and have never experienced what we did today before. I went in to get my oil changed and a few other things checked out on my car (i.e. check engine light, etc.) and was met with mostly friendly service so I thought nothing of it. When I explained everything to the guy (Eddie) he said that in order to do all of that they needed to do a diagnostic check on my car and me not knowing a ton about cars other than how to drive one said alright; when all is said and done my car has a whole laundry list of things that need to be fixed (including my battery which they've been saying the last 3 years and that I replaced about 2 months ago) but my bill is over $200 when normally its max around $90 due to the synthetic oil. I couldn't believe how much they charged to run a diagnostic and that they weren't transparent about it before it was completed. On top of all of this the public health standards at this location were lacking. During my nearly 4 hour wait I witnessed multiple employees hanging out in the customer waiting area either improperly wearing their masks or just disregarding them completely. On top of this proper sanitization protocols were not enforced for surfaces many different people came into contact with and employees failed to follow social distancing while interacting with customers. Suffice to say we will not be coming back to this location and I'll be having a lovely chat with the local health department. read more

Dropped it last night and today at 1:30 they finally took a look and confirmed that they had likely damaged the oxygen sensor when replacing the exhaust. Called Mavis in Clinton to have one tire fixed. The guy on the phone said "sure", we can do it when you get here. I said I would be there in 20 mins, which I was. The "service manager" informed me there were 10 others in front of me, and they couldn't get to it until end of day, roughtly 4 hours from that time. Not what I was told on the phone. Well, not everyone has that kind of time to wait, but that was of no concern to the "service manager", apparently. Kind of dumb, and not good for business. Beware the "preferred customer discount card" My son took his car to the Clinton NJ location for a simple oil change as my family has for the past 20 years (until recently this was an STS Tire store). We had built up a level of trust over the years as we had been treated quite fairly and believed we could still trust the advice we received. My son was offered a "preferred customer discount card" that supposedly would provide coupons and other discounts for our long-time patronage. He believed it was nothing more than a loyalty card as that was how the card was presented. At no point did employees of Mavis disclose the fact that they were having him apply for a Credit Card with an associated "hard" credit pull. My son is graduating college in a few weeks and has no permeant employment or income. That fact did set off a red flag for Mavis. They had him apply for this "discount card" anyway, and of course, he was denied due to lack of employment. Thank you, Mavis, for a negative mark on his credit! My discussion with both the employee who pushed the "discount card" and the regional manager produced no satisfaction. In fact, the regional managed defended the employees' actions, United Airlines style, suggesting my son "should have known it was a credit card application" regardless of how it was presented. So much for honesty and trust. I have to assume employees make some additional compensation bonus for every credit card application they submit with no thought of how it impacts the customer. I also emailed the corporate office but have received no reply. They clearly don't care about how people are treated and should be ashamed. This short-sighted stunt has just lost Mavis a long-standing customer. read more

I made an appointment at Mavis on a Saturday for my 2002 Toyota for a simple tire patch. I did my own plug so I have some experience with wrenching on cars. They took my tire off and feed me the line of "we can't patch that, it's on the side wall". They didn't have my tire match so I bought 4 new and wasn't specific about mounting but white letters on the outside? Here nor there this isn't my issue. I've been wrenching on this truck for a few weeks and know my way around. One day after Mavis, check engine light. All my vacuum hoses were disconnected, makes you think. Put all my hoses back, replaced a few and sure enough, battery light. So before I get into replacing an alternator I got underneath and my alternator connection plug was not fulling plugged in and the bolt to that holds the main on is halfway loosened. Yep, I drove the truck to Lake George and back no issues but a slow leak on a tire. I paid the 700 for four new tires but just know all this seems weird that after my visit two issues that I know would not have happened on their own. I've used Mavis in Clinton in the past and have not been pleased . the OLD management in my eyes was not up to par.I decided to call The corporate office and they put me in touch with the regional manager Mark who I have to say took the time to hear me out and invited me to bring the car in. I was told there was a new manager at that location and I figured let me give it a try. I have to say there is a new atmosphere at this location definitely more customer friendly ! I dealt with the manager Travis I have to say to was fantastic listened to my explanation of my past experiences with having my car serviced at Mavis , and address all my questions and concerns. The mechanic Spencer was great to deal with as well ! I want to Thank Mark , Travis and Spencer for the great customer experience I had this time around , and if you were like me who I had bad experience I say give them another try the new management team there is willing to try to make their customers happy ones ! read more
