Tire balancing and alignment were performed at reasonable price. My car was done approximately after 1.5 hours of waiting in their lounge. Poor communication between whoever took my call and then the people actually working at the location. Was told it would be no issue to bring my trailer rims in and get them replaced promptly. I was given a time and sent an invoice. When I showed up the guy at the front desk fumbled around looking for me in the system and started the entire process over and then told me I would have to leave the rims with them for hours because they were booked up for the day. Due to miscommunication between either corporate or their call center this was overall a waste of everyone's time. Had a screw in my tire. Showed up at 9am when they opened and just needed a plug for the tire. There was no one there. They told me it would take them two hours before they could get to my car. This is something that normally takes 5 to 10 minutes at any other tire shop. He continued to argue with me telling me there were other customers they needed to get to first. Yet they had just opened and I was the only costumer there, they refused to plug my tire. Horrible customer service Once they finally started working on my vehicle. Manager is a complete jerk to every customer and employee. Took truck, drove to Flemington and pulled into Sammy Shine Oil change. No wait, guys were all nice and professional, in and out in 11 mins. All because they didn't bolt it in properly Shoddy work. I won't be back. In December, I made an appointment at this establishment to have a new set of high end tires installed on my car. Two days before the appointment I received a call from Mavis confirming my appointment. At this time I confirmed that they had my tires as well as the correct size which they confirmed they had. The person on the phone asked if I was dropping off or waiting which I told the person I would wait. The person recommended that I do not wait because these were low profile tires which took hours to install. I told the person that I did not have the means to drop off and that I'd have to wait. The day of my scheduled appointment I arrive and the desk person told me I'd have to leave my car, that the wait would be too long. He told me it would take two hours to get the tires in, then hours to install them and that they were swamped with work. I thought that's why you scheduled an appointment. I canceled my tires, ordered them elsewhere and waited an hour and a half to have my tires installed. I had been using this location for many years even when they were STS, but will no longer do so. read more

Stopped in on Sunday to have a small leak fixed. The lady behind the counter was clueless as to scheduling a quick repair and completely out of it as to how many were there before me waiting. She walked in the back and asked another lady and that lady comes out and say we don't do same day appointments. Lol. Walked in 11 months ago during the height of Covid all masked up and bought 4 new Perrelli tire s and had them installed and a alignment within the hour. So she lied and probably does frequently. Stopped at another in south Amboy and that nice women was at least honest and said sure they could do it same day but it might be an hour and a half before getting me in. I declined as I didn't have that much time but insisted that she could book it first thing in the am if I was avail since the wait wouldn't work. I'm writing this because the Clinton mavis is led by liars and It turned me off Mavis. I am amazed how the only people that leave reviews are the negative experiences. I have been going to this place for years and never have had an issue. They take care of both my Honda Civic and my Ford Mustang. Their work has always been courteous and skilled whenever I have an issue. Most recently, my front tire would not hold air. Travis and his team got me in and out timely and thanks to the tread warranty - it was free. Be realistic with your expectations. Went in for wipers on a Sunday and afternoon and they did not have so they would order them, call me a few days later and I could pop in for a quick change. A few days came and went , phone call never came and when I stopped by they had forgotten. Missed Opportunity because that was my test to see if they would handle the small simple request before I would trust them with larger service request. complete scam, doesn't honor warranty. I bought all four tires from here with warranty less than two years ago. well my one tire was going flat so i took it in to check for a leak. A leak turned into a whole new tire and they said I didn't have the warranty on the tire with the leak so had to pay full price. Went back with receipt that I did in fact have the warranty and they tried to lie and gaslight me saying everything they could to deny giving me a refund. As a young woman I felt very taken advantage of during a stressful situation. They will do whatever they can to get the most money possible from you. By the way, I called the "customer solutions number" they recommend on other negative reviews and the woman I spoke with said it was a store issue and directed me to call the store, total waste of time. My family and I have been bringing our cars here since it was an STS and Mavis has really been running this place like a well oiled uh... driving machine :) These guys are always timely about getting you quotes and they are always upfront about estimated wait times. Today I went to my car's dealership to get some major maintenance done and the dealership came back and tried to charge me $180 for an insanely marked up service. I asked a Mavis technician about this service and they said that I could easily do this service myself for a whopping $7. I didn't even have to bring in the car to them to have this done, the tech recommended me a product and I saved $173 because of his kindness. These guys look out for the community they are in, their prices are always fair (tip: check their website for service coupons), and the staff is great about staying in contact with you. We will definitely be continuing to bring our cars here read more

When this location was STS Tire they were MUCH better. Mavis however has been a disappointment despite giving them second and third chances to do better. With the exception of Jay, one of their seasoned and very capable technicians, I would not recommend this place. It's conveniently located so I get lured in by that... but I'm done getting misquoted pricing and unacceptable delivery times. They've kept my car overnight just to put new tires on and there always seems to be a delay or issues! And the last price they gave me didn't include labor! Would give them negative stars. Had a flat on way to work and had it towed to them only to hear they couldnt use my wheel locks on it. Stated they didn't fit and it would need to be towed to the dealership. Dealership said my wheel locks worked fine for all the tires. Dropped my 2017 Charger Hellcat off on 10/30 Sunday to get a flat tire either repaired or replaced; this is a simple service that I have had done once before at this location, with no issue. I was told that due to my car having side skirts, that they wouldn't be able to put it on the lift; keep in mind that the service that I have had done there previously was for THE SAME CAR. All the manager on duty could say initially was "You need to take this to a high-performance shop"; after some back and forth where I told her driving it to another shop on a flat tire might be a problem, she then offered "Well maybe one of my other techs can look at it tomorrow (10/31)." Come Monday someone there was indeed able to figure out how to get it on a lift and they fixed the flat, so then I was told that I could come pick it up. My rear bumper has a diffuser (painted black) and I could tell that whatever "tech" backed into the parking spot after the tire had been repaired wasn't paying attention in the slightest, because the diffuser was clearly making contact with the curb. I brought the person working behind the desk out to show him, and sure enough, you could head a SCRAAAAAPE sound as I pulled forward. Though the resulting scratches are not readily visible, the point is that I didn't bring my car there so that it could get damaged in any way. When I pointed this out to the individual behind the desk who had come out with me, he basically tried to play it off as no big thing and how things apparently get scratched all the time where you can't see it right away, so what's the real harm? They offered to waive the tire repair fee (about $27) to "call it even", but I paid it, as that job had been done satisfactorily, but I made it clear that they will cover the costs to have the diffuser re-painted. The manager told me someone would be in touch, but in general they gave off a vibe that I was being a pain by not just letting it go (I wasn't being a pain, never raised my voice, but did let them know that their techs should pay just a little attention when parking their customer's care). Mavis Discount Tire - Clinton, NJ Beware Parts Pricing! I recently took my Mazda to Mavis Discount Tire in Clinton with a rough running engine. I needed new ignition coils and a tune-up. Before Mavis, I had trusted the STS Tire at this location for years because they did good work at honest prices. Unfortunately, Mavis has taught me not to trust them. The tech's still do good work! - but the management is opportunistic and overcharges for parts, sometimes 2x to 4x over the retail value for those parts, far above the wholesale prices they pay for same. I was in sticker shock when the Manager of Mavis called me with the quote for my car, twice what I was initially quoted over the phone for the same work (bait-switch). 'Good thing I probed further into the parts pricing as Mavis did back down a bit on the Coil pricing. Thinking that was settled, I did not probe further into pricing for plugs & gaskets before authorizing the work. Excess profit on the plugs alone was over $70. Here is the breakdown: Part Descr. Brought my car in with 26000 miles for oil change, tire rotation and alignment. Got a call from mavis telling me that 1 of my tires was slashed in the interior sidewall, couldnt be repaired and needed replacement. They then recommended new tires, but couldnt get the exact match tires for the car. Wanted to give me goodyear tires, couldnt get the pirellis the car came with. Finally told me that they could get michelin tires that were the right size. Told the caller to order the tires and install and that I wanted all four of the tires they removed kept and given to me. Picked the car up and they had disposed of the supposed bad tire and only gave me the three remaining tires and they hadn't aligned the car...the paper said I had declined the alignment. Not true. I think they forgot or just didn't feel like doing it. When i got home I realized that the new tires are NOT specified for the particular model of my car....they are primacy michelins and the Pilots as required. They fit but are not specified for the sport model of my car. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. They are either deceitful or incompetent or both. I have been going there for years and have spent a lot of money there, going back to the days when it was an STS store. Since it has been Mavis, store appearance, quality of employees and my confidence in dealing them have all declined. I'm not going back. read more

For 20 years we've taken our cars to STS in Clinton for everything from tires to repairs. It was very convenient as the park & ride to my day job was just around the corner. A few months ago STS was bought by Mavis and the two times we've brought our cars there we've left with a sour taste. Not only have the prices become ridiculous (we were quoted $350 for front brake pads on a Ford Flex - I bought them for $50 across the street at NAPA and taught my teenagers how to install them one Saturday morning) but it is clear that they are up selling and adding in extras that we neither asked for or need. It's too bad to miss out on the easy drop off and pick up, but they they worked very hard to take a 4 Star Auto Repair shop and drag is down to 1 Star. Add some more reviews, let us know if they get back on their game, but until I see evidence of a turn around I'll look for someplace else. read more

It's not often I write reviews on yelp. But my experience last week at Mahvis certainly deserves my appreciation and gratitude so I thought I'd share for others. I started my day getting a flat tire at my first appointment (had four to run to and had a very busy day ahead). This is probably one of the worst things that could have happened to start my day. I was very frustrated and put a flat tire on as quickly as I could and found the closet tire shop on Google as my tire was unreparible and needed a new one asap. I then landed on the door step of Mahvis tire and boy did I luck out. These guys salvaged my day and allowed me to get to my other appointments on time! I first met with Rich, who could tell I was in a bit of a rush and needed this issue handled swiftly. He was professional, he was prompt, and he did not try to sell me on anything other then what I requested. The entire team there had me out of the shop in less then an hour, two new tires and an alignment later. Prices were fair, customer service was great, and the fix was super quick. This service was 10/10 across the board in any industry. I thank the entire team as you made a start to a hectic day finish strong!!! read more

If I could give less than 1 star I would. Before you go,please read the negative comments posted here. The former STS had been slightly higher (priced) and I am certain they "built-in" work, but the quality was there. Since the change in ownership (same staff), there has been a material change in quality of work. Tom, Steve,Travis are polite,the quality of their "work" and the subsequent charges are grossly out of line. I have receipts. Note:customer requested work was NOT what we asked them to do, but likely supported the $707 bill. If you still decide to go: - Make certain they call you before they start the work - Have them itemize what they are doing and why. - Ask to see any replaces parts. - Check print out of receipt to see that work completed is what you requested/paid for. - Take the car back to them for re-work and don't support them anymore...go somewhere else! The employees seemed overwhelemed and not friendly. The guy in charge Steve always seems to have an attitude with customers like you are bothering him. Terrible. Really terrible. Charged me 150 just to read my engine light ( something that autozone does for free). Told me that a part needed to be replaced and charged me 300 for it. Light came on immediately when I drove it home. Had to go back 8 different times just for them to tell they couldn't get the part to actually fix it. Twice they didn't call me to tell me they were closing and to pick up my car, had to rush over after having called them and not knowing they were closing early. Basically I spent almost 500, had to go back 9 different times and my car is exactly in the same condition it was when I started. Great place to waste money. read more

had an oil change/tire rotation appointment for 10am, didn't leave til almost 1230 -- tires weren't even rotated bc they couldn't find the stock key to remove them (i found it myself 5 mins after i got home). 2.5 hours for an oil change WITH an appointment... was told appointments didn't really mean anything. ok didn't ask what kind of oil i wanted and just did whatever they felt like. this place sucks. spoke to the regional manager who basically laughed repeatedly and said this was normal for this location and he hears it about the front desk guy all the time. excuse after excuse and kept saying they can't help if they get backed up bc of other issues from other vehicles. i get that, but my appointment was a half hour after the first appointment -- must be A LOT of issues first thing in the morning here's an idea: communicate that to your customers instead of having them wait 2.5 hours for a simple oil change (couldn't even get the full job done!) go literally anywhere else -- this place is a joke. Our tire blew Sunday afternoon on 78. Took the car to Mavis for a quick tire change. Arrive at 4:40, the shop closes at 5:00. Group of techs refused to change tire.
