Front brakes and wheel bearing on my Hyundai Santa Fe. I got new tires from another dealer and they never addressed my wheel bearing issue. I could have lost a wheel while driving. That being said Stephen the manager took extra time and due diligence to make my car safe to drive. What a difference in stopping power now and Quiet on the road. I have also brought my cousin's car here after a botched tire replacement by another dealer. The manager is clueless about what's going on(and anything about vehicles)while I was there for a simple service and his "techs" are as clueless as he was. They all look like they struggle with the even most simplest tasks. I just be happy when this shop(store 080)is closed at the end of January so they don't screw up anybody's else vehicle .The waiting room/bathroom and shop looked like a real crap hole and I thought I was in a ghetto. read more

I am basically satisfied with the service and repairs at Monro Muffler at 245 Groton Ave. Ext. in Cortland, New York. But i had an oil change on 8/14/24 which includes a tire rotation. In the past when I have gotten an oil change here I was just charged around $100. for the oil change with full synthetic oil. This time I was also charged $29.99 for a 4-wheel balance with the free tire rotation. The tires are practically new, why balance them again just to rotate the tires? The $29.99 is not a big deal but it seems like this charge was a bit hidden to me. I know, I signed the paperwork in advance so it's all on me. I'll be more careful in the future. I had been going here for years. then, just like every year, I take my car to be inspected. It passes, no issues. Two weeks later, my dad drives my car and notices the brakes feel funny. Takes a look at them and the pads and rotors are completely shot. He asks me, when did you get the car inspected? I tell him. He takes it to his other mechanic. Guy let's my dad know, the car needs brakes, and that we were lucky we didn't kill ourselves driving it. Monro has NOTHING to say, only that it doesn't matter how bad the brakes are, they passed it. I called John, the a manager over at Monro, and he gives me some story that NY state doesn't require them to fail inspection if there is any tiny piece of the pads or rotors left. Teally? Okay, fine. But I've been going there for ten years now maybe, so why couldn't someone SAY something to me about the brakes? They failed me last year because the wipers were bad, but they can't even tell me i should have the brakes looked at? John was argumentative and rude. I just cannot believe how I was treated at Monro, after going there faithfully for almost a decade. Beware, seriously. I never write reviews, but please. If it happened to me, it could happen to you. Complete and utter disregard for their loyal customers. Just grateful nobody got seriously injured due to their careless negligence. read more

Less than 1 star if I could. I am sitting across the street (literally) with a flat tire and called to see if I could drive it over. I would wait as long as I needed as I'm from out of town and have no help. She told me they just could not fit in one tire repair even after I said I would wait as long as necessary. I have never seen such poor customer service when a customer was in serious need of help. Truly disappointed in customer service and just lack of overall kindness. we were on the way to our son's graduation from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY when we lost our breaks....OMG! We pulled into the Monroe Brakes & Muffler garage in Cartland, explained the situation to John, the manager, who immediately shuffled things around and replaced the rear brake calliper to save the day. He and the rest of the staff were so friendly and helpful, we made the graduation festivities on time and they certainly saved the day, to say the least. John support and service is the best I have ever been treated by a shop let alone a new visit. I literally broke down on the Cortland exit on Easter weekend coming from NYC. I called several mechanics who either did not work over the holiday weekend or too booked to get me back on the Rosa until Monday or Tuesday. John and his main mechanic opened early Saturday to help fix my car. Long story short they put me back I. The raid early Saturday morning fixed only what was needed and did not charge me more than what was necessary. I was able to help my daughters move that weekend and get back to NYC Sunday. I took my car in for a routine NYS Inspection. When I picked it up, I could not drive it. When I started the car the message on the computer screen read "Pull Over In A Safe Place. Do Not Drive" The Manager, John Vandee, did not mention this issue when I paid for the inspection and there was no mention of it on my receipt. The receipt simply stated "Courtesy Inspection--Included with every visit -- / Service -- NY Emission Inspect and NY State Inspection" When I went back in to ask what happened his response was "It was like that when you brought it in." I definitely would have noticed this if that were the case. Mr. Vandee refused to take any responsibility for this situation and did not offer to bring my car back in to see if the problem could be solved. I had to have my car towed and chose to take it to O'Shea Tire & Service Center where they did a full analysis. The Problem: Found air filter cover tube was not seated and allowing excessive air flow in to the throttle body shutting the car down. Basically, the technician at Monroe, listed on the receipt as A. Sloughter, failed to put the cover back on the air filter correctly and the "Courtesy Inspection" at Monroe ended up costing me $240.00. This could have been easily spotted if the manager, John Vandee, had only offered to bring my car back in and asked the technician to review his work. read more

Let me tell you something: I'm not from around these parts, and this was the first time I'd been to a shop off of Long Island. However, this was the best experience I'd ever had at any shop. The gentlemen working were not only professional, but personable, and it made a 40 minute wait feel more like 10. I actually ENJOYED getting my oil changed here. The tech also did a complementary 31 point safety inspection on my vehicle and ran me through all of his observations. I cannot speak highly enough about this shop and the folks who work here. Not to mention, very competitive prices as well. I STRONGLY recommend Monro to anyone considering. read more

Great service! Friendly and willing to take the time to get it right

I went here for an inspection and failed due to my tires. I set up an appointment for my tires to be done and found a new place for much cheaper, 150 dollars cheaper. I went elsewhere to get new tires done the same day and when I called I was hung up on and penalized for not getting the work done here. When I was told that I would come back for an inspection, I was not supposed to be charged. However, I am being charged for another fee after being charged for a FAILED inspection. I was hung up on and penalized for not getting work done at the site. I would not recommend doing business here, especially for a college student. HORRIBLE! read more

Quoted me $3400.00 for exhaust manifold, catalytic converters and yoke, turned out after I took exhaust apart it was only a manifold connection gasket that sells for around $10. I brought my manifold back to them that I took off my vehicle. They told me that they would have found out that is what it needed after they took it apart, however I was asked to put a down payment on the parts they said I would need because they were special order. They said I didn't know what the problem was until I took it apart myself, well they are the experts in the muffler business that is why I brought it there. Do they expect customers to diagnose their own exhaust issues? Now I have had to order new exhaust manifolds and catalytic converters because I had to cut old parts out old parts believing what they told me was defective, also I have to purchase 4 oxygen sensors. I have had past problems last year with defective work, I would highly suggest finding another garage to do your work or get a second opinion. read more

They are at a convenient location right on the corner of the intersection.if your in a position where u need help immediately, they will do there best to help out quickly. I got a flat across the road, an quickly found out my jack was not put back in my car, along with the 4 way. Being with my 2 babies i didnt have many options besides wait for AAA. I drove across the street to monro an they put my donut on within 10 minutes an didnt charge me, understanding my situation. Thank you guys! read more

They were very flexible with hours and considerate after I had to reschedule my appointment last minute.

Absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. Rude managers and sketchy sales tactics. My girlfriend took her car in for an oil change, a car that requires regular oil i.e. No synthetics, semi synthetics, etc. after waiting for over an hour the manager comes in and tells us the total will be well over the inistial cost as they had to put synthetic oil in the car. After we refused since we've never used that oil, the manager calls to his band of mistfits to "drain the car! They don't want to pay." As if that was some scare tactic to get us to pay. I wouldn't trust these guys to wash my car let alone repair it... avoid at all costs!!! read more

Had an appointment and arrived 15 min. early -only to leave after 1 hr. with out anyone looking @ my car- only needed a NYS inspection. I could understand if they had full bays but in fact only 2 vehicles where in the shop. There must be better places for inspections and service. read more
