Mavis discount tire? More like mavis RIPOFF tire. I brought my girlfriend's car in for a routine oil change. Simple, right? Wrong. After we got the call that her car was done, we arrived at Mavis to pay and take her car home. It's a simple oil change, so I was expecting a bill anywhere from 30-40 dollars. Nope. 46 dollars just for the oil for a compact Chevy. Plus labor. 70 dollars for a simple oil change? No way. That price is criminal. I'm surprised with all the negative reviews. I've been using this service center for everything. I brought in a car to get a tire patched and was told front strut needed replacement. I asked questions that an upseller mechanic would get wrong. I asked about the back strut, to see if he would bite on replacing that as well. I had the back strut replaced recently so it was an easy question to fail. He was honest and said the back looked fine and that it looked like it was replaced already (right answer!). Then I asked if I should buy a new tire instead of a patch job, but he reassured me that the patch would hold and the treads on the tire were fine (right answer again!) In the end, I actually didn't get charged for the patch job. I have since come here for all auto work. Jason especially is always friendly and helpful. read more

I brought my 11 Chevy HHR in last Saturday because the "service ESC" light was coming on. I waited over 20 minutes in the waiting room when there seemed to be only two other vehicles in the service bays. They told me I needed a new front wheel bearing and that the speed sensor was possibly bad. They wanted close to $500 to replace the wheel bearings (you have to replace them in pairs). I had just had both wheel bearings replaced last August by Dimension Auto which is across town from Mavis. I called Dimension and told them what Mavis told me. I brought my vehicle into them this morning and Roy found no issue with either wheel bearing. That's not surprising since I have put all of 3,000 miles on the replacement bearing. IMO, Mavis Tire of Hackettstown is not honest and tries to sell customers parts/labor their vehicles don't need. I will never go back there. read more

If I could give less than one star I would!! $800 for tires eight months ago, only got $20,000 miles out of tires rated for 50,000 miles! Went to complain & the manager said he "wouldn't entertain " our questions & told us we needed 4 new tires again! We never had this happen in all the years and different cars we've ever had. My wife made an appointment two days in advance for four new tires and was told that the tires were in stock. I was fifteen minutes early for the appointment, waited about half an hour to get the car in and up on the lift and was then advised that the tires were not in stock and they would have to go to another location to get them which would only take fifteen minutes. Bottom line is two hours later sitting in a dirty waiting room I had four new tires. They then told me that the complimentary alignment check would be another half hour or so - I didn't believe them and left without it. I went to the car's dealer for the alignment which cost $110. and had to buy a new tire pressure sensor (which I think they broke) for another $282.The place is a mess, tools all over the place in the shop, a bunch of kids who have no idea what they're doing. Wow a horrid day to spend my Tuesday... I brought 4 tires and rims, a place where they did them for free in the past no bothering I always was nice, I decided to bring in my rims and tires to be switched to a new set of tires that I got online For $20 a few hours later I was called to come pick them up I go get them and put them in my car and go inside to say thank you and tip the man who did my tires for me well I was told that it would be $84 19.99 a tire, after talking to the manager he got them down to about 25 for all of them seems awesome right ? When I got home I saw my rims damaged and the manager wasn't pleasant when I called he said that the money should come out of the mans pocket who changed them?? Odd if you know that you're machine may damaged my wheels why not tell me? And why is it the mechanics problem! Never again read more

I was a repeat customer and had good experiences before today. On Sunday, July 1, 2018 I had an appointment for an oil change. Everything seemed fine until I noticed oil dripping this morning (July 3, 2018) upon arriving at work. I drove straight to Mavis after work, but they told me they were too busy to check on it and asked me to try later, told me it was probably residual oil, handed me a business card, and sent me out the door. Luckily I followed my instincts and stopped at another shop on my way home. The shop owner stopped everything he was doing to check on my car only to find that the drain plug was barely hanging on and oil was pouring out all over. I would need a tow truck to bring it back to Mavis so they could fix their own mistake. The car was not drivable. When I immediately contacted Mavis the manager at the desk told me that they would take care of the problem, but they would not pay for the tow truck. He told me that it was my choice to leave the shop today instead of waiting it out, that I knew it was leaking, and it was my fault I needed a tow truck. This was their mistake, they refused to help me or even look at my car while I was there and told me to leave and come back later, my engine could have seized, and they refused to pay for the tow truck required to get my car there to fix their mistake. I told him to forget it, that I would never step foot back in that shop ever again. The mechanic at the other shop took about 20 minutes to replace the gasket they never changed at Mavis and properly re-install the drain plug, and put oil in my vehicle. That is the level of customer service that I should have received at Mavis. This person stopped everything they were doing to check on a suspected oil leak and fixed someone else's mistake without question. Please beware of going to Mavis for anything. This was the third time I used them for service and it is a new crew and manager every time I go. Clearly they are not properly vetting their employees and teach them nothing about good and proper customer service. read more

Do not go to Mavis Discount Tire! I brought my Mercedes Benz in for two new tires. I left it there at 8:30 am and said I would be back at 3 pm. When I came back the tires were not done, my car was parked in a different spot and pulled in to the spot erratically, the window was down and rain was pouring in. The mechanic said they were sorry and they would take some money off my bill because they had clearly taken my car for a ride. I wish I had checked my mileage before I left to see how far they had driven. The next day my new tire was leaking air so I reluctantly went back. The mechanic said, didn't we tell you that you had a cracked rim? They had not. Please do not go near this place! read more

Management was very pleasant and friendly - BUT - They have no clue what it means to have an appointment. I ordered tires earlier in the week and made an appointment for 2pm Friday. I didn't get done until 4pm. It took over an hour to get my vehicle on the lift and almost another hour to mount 4 tires. There was lots of standing around and no one had a clue about productivity. I questioned the manager about the meaning of an appointment and he said he knew the meaning but they had other vehicles in before mine and only 2 guys..........blah blah. He did discount the tires since it took so long which I did accept but it seems it would be a better business practice to work more efficiently and honor appointments or just not accept appointments if they are not going to be honored. Also, when I first arrived I told them I wanted the road hazard insurance for the tires which I had previously been quoted a price of $16 per tire ($64) but when the insurance was added he said that it added $139. I questioned the price and he apologized and said he put in an incorrect code for the tires I was purchasing and then corrected it to the $64 price. I wonder now if that was truly an honest mistake or their way of doing business. Just be aware if you chose to use this location. read more
