The staff is friendly, and this place is fine for oil changes and minor issues. However, I would not recommend it for major car problems. I was towed twice in one week after paying the full amount. They guaranteed that everything was fixed and safe to drive, but my car broke down again right as I was about to get on the highway, which was very scary. I came here for a nail in my tire a month ago and they took me right away. I was out the door and tire fixed in a half hour for $32. My friend went somewhere else locally for the same issue and paid $75. Everyone was so nice I'm now back today for an oil change $52 , blended oil and a tire rotation. Booked a tire replacement and alignment through the Mavis website a week in advance. Turned up to be told an alignment wouldn't happen because they don't have an alignment tech onsite on Mondays. They also only had one set of tires in stock that would suit my car, whereas the website said I'd have about 11 options. I had a better experience a few months back where I turned up with a flat battery and had it changed within about 20 minutes, so I'm disappointed that things were pretty subpar the second time around, especially given that I'd booked in advance. read more

Brought my car in for brakes and tires, and was told that they were comfortable servicing my BMW sedan. The work was completed at a very comparable price to the dealership which in the end was not worth it. They did not reset the electronics and the warning lights continued for several weeks, and after bringing it back was told the brake sensor had not been installed properly and had broken. The part was not in stock I had to come back yet a third time and wait significantly to have that part replaced a second time. Overall, would have been better off, taking it back to the dealership for service. read more

I went in for an oil change. The guy at the front desk was rude and talked over me and other customers repeatedly and impatiently. The mechanic tried to pressure me into replacing the Valve cover gasket saying that if they did the oil change now, I'd be back in two weeks for them to do it again. I spoke with my own mechanic whom I normally go to but was away and he said that what they said was BS. Not impressed. A word of advice to the staff. If I'm trying to buy one thing don't try to upsell me using high pressure sales tactics. If you're nice people and you provide a good service, I will be back for future visits unlike now which I'm never going there again. read more

I took my car to Mavis a couple weeks ago for an oil change. The guy at the front desk was very polite and they did the oil change pretty quickly. However, they called me to tell me that my car's upper control arm was in really bad shape and needed to be replaced. They said they could do it right then and would cost $500+. I declined. I didn't tell them this, but I have a regular mechanic who is the only one I trust for anything beyond an oil change. As I paid up, the Mavis guy warned me that I should get it done soon. Well, I made an appointment with my mechanic, and he said nothing's wrong with the car. I'm lucky enough to have a professional that I trust, but many people don't, and they will take mechanics at their word, especially when they use scare tactics. It seems that at Mavis in Madison, integrity isn't a concern, so I would avoid at all costs. read more

I am SO GLAD I scheduled my appointment before checking reviews here!! I was looking for inexpensive tires online. Mavis tires had the best deal and low and behold there was a location close to home. I thought, perfect. I called the shop, gave them the tires I wanted and booked my appointment. After looking at my vehicle, Jason, the General Manager told me that I had ordered the wrong size for my car, but told me that he may be able to find the correct size at another Mavis and install it later in the day. Unfortunately, I had to go to work and couldn't wait, but that I would return the next morning. I found Jason to be very kind and his demeanor showed he really wanted to help. I returned at 8am, which is when the shop opens. Jason greeted me with a smile and though his mechanics hadn't arrived yet he did not have me wait. He pulled my vehicle in right away and changed my tires himself. He gave a few tips, and was kind and considerate. Then, when I thought I was done my key had gotten stuck in the ignition! Turns out, there's a problem GMC issued regarding this issue. Stupid car! Jason spent extra time (quite a bit) on getting the key out and he made sure not to cause any damage. I will, without a doubt go back to this Mavis. I plan on buying all future tires from this place. I find the entire staff (honorable mention goes to Jared the manager who I spent a little time talking with, who was also very kind and pleasant). I trust that my car will be in great hands, and the level of service is exemplary. It's not often that we leave any car service place with a huge smile due to the service. read more

Brought my car here because the rear air suspension failed. The manager, Jason, advised not to drive it but to park it. I parked it locally than brought it back two days later. I advised I wanted the aftermarket parts. When I went to pick up the vehicle he said he had to use OEM parts but only charged me for the aftermarket parts. That's great customer service. I needed brakes and front tires but advised him I'd do it another time. No pressure to do it now. Glad I didn't, because I ended up trading in this vehicle for a new one. I have been a loyal Mavis Customer for over 10+ years. The Madison NJ location has been my headquarters for any car repairs needed. I especially respect and honor the relationship I have been blessed to have with the staff. The Manager Jason is one of the most intuitive, responsible, respectful, intelligent and knowledgeable master mechanics in the business. I feel that he is an imperative asset to Mavis and to his colleagues. The man leads by example over and over again. I had countless great experiences with his mechanics. For example last week I brought my 2003 Honda Civic in for some work. Jason's guys Ed and Erick handled the project amazing and fixed/adjusted all the parts and not for one second did they add or fabricate any other areas of the project that did not need to be done. In other words they were honest. Honesty is a huge character trait and its not easy to find a well rounded staff that has these core values. Now, regarding the tires and tire install. Jason recommended a tire that was exactly what I was looking for. I needed an all season tire that was reliable in all weather that wasnt going to put me in the poor house. Jason found the tires and his team did such a wonderful install that when I saw my car I almost blasted out of my shoes, my jaw dropped and I was so happy I couldnt wait to get home to show my wife. Took my car for 4 new tires. When I got home 2 of the hubcaps were missing. Called them and they said they installed it and it's not their problem. The hub caps must have fallen off. I have had this car since 2013 with the same hubcaps. Never had an issue. All of a sudden after they changed the tires, 2 became defective and fell off!!!! Filled out the survey but submitted it to early while trying to correct my comments. Wrote a letter to corporate to tell them how great these guys were. Basically saved the day by switching my snow tires for summer tires i purchased privately which needed spacers and Amin ordered them and had them delivered in 30 mins. Jason, Amin and Antuan all stayed after closing to finish the job! There was also one technician who originally noted the tires were rubbing but i forgot to ask for his name. Thank you ! read more

I priced the tires online with TireRack and Costco including mounting, balance, etc. and then called Mavis for a quote and availability. They instantly quoted a lower price than Tire Rack and Costco and scheduled me in. Jason the manager is outstanding; very customer focused. Told me it would be 1.5 hrs and finished earlier. I just HATE dishonest business people who take advantage of women, assuming they are stupid. I called Mavis in Madison, NJ to get a quote on a Synthetic Oil change. The guy quoted me $77 for up to 5 quarts. This seemed high to me, so I called 2 other Mavis locations and both quoted $59.99. This is just bad business. This is not the first time that this location has tried to charge me 25-30% higher fees for the exact same services at another Mavis branch. The owners of the franchise should investigate this branch's business practices because it reflects badly on the BRAND. This is how you lose customers permanently! The Bernardsville, NJ Mavis staff are all honest and hard-working and have always done right by me. The Madison branch is closer to my office but I will NEVER give them a dime of my money! I am writing my first review ever - it is about Mavis Discount Tire in Madison, NJ. I live in Madison, so this is a local store and convenient. My complaint is about my Bill and the way I was treated when asking questions about it. Imagine Paying $900 and merely inquiring about charges and to be treated rudely and with an attitude like I was stupid. Believe me, I am polite and certainly not stupid. I informed Mavis that the Bill was different that what was quoted when I made an appointment over the phone. I was then informed that "the phone person" was not a Madison, NJ person - it was a call center person and they could not be responsible for what the call center stated. I replied that I called the local Madison number and the gentleman who answered said that it was not busy and they had room for me to come over right away....how could that be a call center I asked? I was then told by the Madison NJ manager that such a claim was a ruse....all calls are forwarded to a call center despite having local numbers. Hmmm...... Regarding my Bill.. I was not given a paper bill until I paid. I had to look over the managers shoulder and onto his computer screen...a good 6-7 feet away. The Bill had an item I did not ask for - like an extended warranty. My tires also had a mail in rebate - I inquired how that worked...response was "don't know, you'll have to go to the internet and figure it out." Hmmm...nearly every tire brand in the store has rebates and you can't help a customer? Needless to say all the people in the waiting room who heard this sympathized with me as I left.... Tires are a commodity item and can be purchased anywhere at the same price....a shame that local businesses push local people away...especially when it is so easy to be honest and just answer basic questions. read more

Mavis is my go-to for replacement tires, which is like twice a year thanks to the garbage politicians in NJ. This is a super Mavis. They loaned me a wheel! My wheel was cracked in 2 places (again, if you're drawing a check for running this state, I hope you get gout) and wouldn't hold a new tire. They offered me a random wheel to keep me on the road while I waited for the repair. Gave me a fair price and quality sympathy as well. I'm sure I'll see them again soon. read more

I've been going to Sts for years. I bought tires from them have my oil changes done. Had my front and back brakes done. Today I had them fix a tire. And I talked to them about new struts and tires. I said I would be over after work to pick up my car. They didn't leave the keys and lock me out of my car and I had no way home. The police were nice enough to call management to tell them I was locked out and then I needed my keys to get home. The manager Robert refuse to come down to help me out. I literally have spent thousands there. And had no way home. So people of Madison in Chatham. What would you do. read more

I am giving Mavis 4 star because I needed to change my tires and went there for the first time. I took the car to another location and was told I needed to change 4 tires so I decided to go and look for another opinion and at this location I was told I only needed two in the front. I decided to leave my car there and asked them to check my tire pressure light also, because it was always on. I was told I would get a call with the budget and then we would move forward. I didn't get that call and ended up paying extra 200 dollars from what I was initially told. I didn't like that but was ok since I just wanted the car working properly. When I got the car the tire pressure light came back on. I took the car there again. They checked it. The light came back on as soon as I rode out of there. I took the car there again. Basically it was a back and forth because the light would come on and I would take the car there and they would check it and say it was ok. It was annoying for me and I also felt bad that I kept complaining about it. Long story short Jason assumed there was no way we would be able to turn that light off and they refunded me the money I spent on the sensors. I decided to give it 4 stars anyway because I appreciate the fact they tried everything they could and when it came to final decision they ended up refunding the money as the problem wasn't solved. I appreciate what they did and even tho I still have a problem I can't ignore the fact they did what they could. So thank you for that. I will take that into consideration every time. Also I was always greeted with kindness and I think that's very important for a business. read more

We had two front tires and an alignment done on our car. Driving down the highway afterwards with our whole family in the car we notice that there is a noise coming from the front left tire. When we stop we discover that THREE lug nuts are loose and one was halfway undone. Be careful and check the quality of their work. We are lucky nothing happened. I will never go to a Mavis tire again and recommend to others not to go as well. read more

Safety NOT first! I took my daughters car there Dec 2017 to get new brakes for $79 before she left to go back to college 200 miles away. I left with a bill for over $1300 for new rack and pinion steering and control arms because they said the steering fluid had a leak. My husband and I decided to err on the side of safety since my daughter was leaving for school in a couple days and we didn't have time to get a second opinion or price. She drove the car to school and parked it for 3 weeks while away. When she got back and went to the grocery store she had no power steering. She was lucky to find a local mechanic who looked at it and said she had no steering fluid, the O rings were deteriorated and hoses old. He replaced the hoses and rings, and sealed them, then replaced the steering fluid. This cost me another $200. When I called Mavis in Madison, told them the story, and demanded they reimburse me, the manager first started to defend but I quickly told him this is not about the money, it is about safety and shoddy work....was he really going to argue with me?? I sent him a picture of the receipt and I am getting reimbursed. However, I will never go there again! It is one thing to get ripped off but another not to be able to trust that the mechanic expert does the job right! read more
