RUN AWAY SCREAMING FROM THIS RIP-OFF ESTABLISHMENT. I had brand new brakes put on my car 1 month ago and needed an inspection. I was told that because there was rust on the outside of the brakes, I needed brand new brakes. I put less than 1000 miles on this car since having new brakes and rotors installed. The guy who was trying to rip me off insisted that the surface rust meant that the rotors and brakes were shot. He never even took the tires off. I left and went to a real establishment and was informed that my brakes were fine...that Mavis is known for ripping people off and that I should have tape recorded the mutant who was attempting to rip me off, and brought that to the DMV. He also told me to immediately file a complaint with the BBB. I am doing that right now. PLEASE STAY AWAY from this place. Good selection, service and pricing on tires. Friendly accommodating staff. Beyond that - buyer beware. If you go in to have a specific repair done, it will be done at a fair price. If you go here for an inspection or look like you know nothing about cars, be prepared for surprises. My wife was told she needed new brakes because they were "rusty". Pads and rotors were fine. My daughter's car mysteriously had no power steering fluid. No leaks, but the reservoir was empty. Wonder how that happened? Was told it needed a $89. PS flush. I declined, had them top it off and it never had a problem again. Tried to sell my son on new springs because the paint coating on them was flaking off. I could go on but you get the idea. Go to Mavis for tires and specific repairs that you know in advance that you need. Steer clear of their brake service. Yes, you will pay a lot more elsewhere, but quality components and thorough service do not exist at a $69.00 price point. read more

Read a few bad reviews about this location but I was satisfied with the service. Bought a set of Goodyear Triple Treads which were very noisy and also caused the car to vibrate, needless to say I was not happy with the purchase. Went back to Mavis and they swapped them out with Michelin Defender's, after 3 weeks of riding on the Goodyears, no questions asked. Very happy with the Michelin tires. read more

The worst customer service. My car was damaged while it was being worked on I had to use my own insurance to have it fixed. Stay away!

I send everyone I know to this specific Mavis Discount Tire store. Everything is fair and honest. These people will do the best they can to help a customer. I've been going here since I had my first car. Just today I awoke to a disappointing flat tire. That I didn't even buy from them it came with the car. They had me come in right away and took care of me. All it needed was a plug! There service is top notch I get everything done here varying from routine maintenance to large jobs everything has always been honest and fair. They are such a large asset in our little town of Mahopac! And by far one of the nicest best business around! If you ever have a problem there's no need to call around just give these guys a call. I have been here a number of times for repairs and tires. They are fast, friendly and reliable. These guys do not nickel and dime you. Often little jobs are done free as a courtesy. I went in with a leaking tire today, and two pages into my book, I was sent happily on my way. I almost, almost look forward to buying my next set of new tires. read more

I have been going to this Mavis for years. They have always treated me well. They done many small jobs (plug tires, evaluate everything) for free. They have always been thorough but NEVER recommended anything that wasn't needed. I am not a mechanic but I do know cars, and when they tell me it needs something but I can't afford to do it right away they will give me all the options including what else might be damaged if I wait to long. I'm glad that they are here for me. I do not hesitate to recommend them to friends or family. read more

Great customer service. I was not a customer here when I brought my car in this afternoon to repair a flat tire. Always expecting the worst, I was prepared to pay for a new tire and possibly a rim. I bought two tires at a Mavis center in Pleasantville when my tire went flat, I now 8 months later have a air leak in one of the tires I bought so I went to the Mahopac Mavis because they are close to my home. I was told that my tire had a bubble in it and I told them this tire is new a how could that be, they also said I needed another tire that was no good I told them I would speak to corp. office because I felt something was wrong, when I call office they inform me and I should bring it to one of there other Mavis stores which she gave me in my area, I took my car over to Peekskill Mavis center and inform them that I had a leak in my tire they said no problem we will look at it and after 20 minutes they inform me that there is nothing wrong with the tire it just needed to be reset and that maybe I hit a pothole which could have cause the problem, then I ask to check other tires and was told all good. MAHOPAC TIRE CENTER IS A CROOK AND DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR FOR REPAIR BECAUSE THEY LIE. Got my oil changed @Mavis on Miller Road- told me i needed 4 new struts, and was offered a "special" price. Checked with other garages for estimates, and was told my car was fine, none needed. Back to Mavis because they failed to top my fluids with oil change when i hear them tell customer standing next to me " your gonna need new struts, I can offer them to you at... blah blah blah". Crooks. Never will return, nor will my mother, my brother or my neighbors. word gets around. read more

I don't review a lot but felt the service was so good I had to add my experience. I had a large screw in my tire, went in expecting to replace the tire. Not only did they say it looked worse than it was, but they fixed it for FREE! I gave they guy $$ who did the repair but I found them fast and attentive. read more

STAY away from this place....very dishonest. Go in for an oil change and then you apparently need 4 other items replaced. When I told them I do not need anything, all was done already a month ago. Ray and the top mechanic Brian have left the building...I went just recently brought in both a 2013 Pathfinder with less than 18000 miles and Chevy Avalanche 2500 with less than 500 miles on the odometer since the last NY State check up at this Mavis, which I have been having my vehicles serviced for the past 7 years. For the Pathfinder, they would not pass the NY inspection unless I spent over $400 for front brake rotors and pads, because they were rusted...the Avalanche "requires" 4 new 33"inch tires @ over $275 per tire plus mount and balance due to mild dry rot...it has less than 500 miles since the last year inspection, with the same set of tires, from this Mavis. In distress I took the car and truck to another mechanic at D&C Auto Repair in Valhalla, 45 mins from me..."NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLES, THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN PASSED!!!" He told that a lot of complaints have been with this particular Mavis, using false FAILURE inspections to up their sales. I WILL NEVER RETURN!!! Im in total disbelief of the experience I just went thru at this location. The Mavis name will never again mean the same in our family. The following is what transpired: So, I'm in need of replacing the rear shocks of my 2008 Toyota Sienna. After some research I had decided on the brand name KYB in particular its Monomax Shock but was not sure if it was compatible. I then decided to get professional help and called Mavis at its Mahopac location were Mike answered the call. We spoke of the specifics and was placed on hold while he call his supplier to to find out if the Monomax was compatible and in stock. He returned on the phone and assured me that it would fit and it was in stock for today. We agreed on a time and reviewed the cost. Upon arrival, Mike attended me at the counter and reviewed the order. The vehicle was then driven to the bay for service. After waiting for over an hour, the work was completed. I proceeded with the paper work and payment with another salesperson. Upon completion, I noticed on the invoice the description of the shock was not the specific model I had requested.Sure it was a KYB brand but not a Monomax shock. The salesperson who had taken payment was not able to explain what had happen. Mike returned to the counter was ask about the situation.What came next was a total shocker. He began saying the supplier had said that KYB did not make a Monomax shock. I then displayed the KYB web site with its Monomax shock model.Only after this he began a new line of defense by stating the Monomax was not compatible my vehicle. Had he been honest from the beginning it would have saved us both a lot of aggravation. We agreed to to have the old shocks re-installed and a refund within a couple of days to the credit card. After another 40 minutes wait I left with my original shocks and a bitter taste of customer service. read more

I brought my daughter's car in for a seasonal tire change over and a PM. I was informed by Mo that the vehicle needed struts and shocks, he said the vehicle was unsafe until this work was preformed. Being apprehensive (every time we bring a vehicle there it always seems to need a big ticket repair)we brought the vehicle to a local shop. The mechanic told us the struts and shocks were fine, he further explained that it appeared that "someone" put grease and oil on the struts and shocks to make them appear to be leaking. Needless to say Mavis has lost a customer. if you chose Mavis get a second opinion before being talked out of your money. Stay away!!! read more

I got a rim repair done in Mahopac and I got phone call from them that my car broke because my timing belt snapped. I towed my car to mechanic and he tells me that the engine is completely damaged ($3000 worth of repair), however it wasn't because of timing belt. Top piece of pump in the engine broke probably under pressure and got inside the engine. The salespeople kept lying that they didn't drive the car. 4 days later I found out that the took it for "test drive" and that's when it happened. They tried to convince me that I came with check engine light on, they blamed it on my car being "old" (VW Passat with 135K), etc. Promised to buy the engine if I pay for labor and changed it couple days later to "we only offered you a discount". I was really hoping that they would act more professionally and take at least partial responsibility since nobody even bothered to let me know they are taking it for a test drive and they lied from very beginning. Very disappointing! I will never go back, nor any of my friends and family. read more

went there last week to get a quote on four new tires, the individual i was dealing with tried to over charge me by sixty dollars. i then checked the price on the mavis website and found the tires cheaper. i then called the same individual i was dealing with back at the mahopac mavis store and told him this. he started to stutter saying his price included extra work but could not explain the work. do not go here they will try and rip you off. read more
