I live a just a couple miles away from this shop and have been there a few times for tire rotation, replacement and repairs. Everyone is friendly, kind, and accommodating, particularly Joseph running the front desk. I had some minor mix-ups at first with not getting calls due to a wrong phone number on my account, but nothing I wasn't able to fix by giving them a call myself to check in. Most recently, I had a tire with a slow leak and called in the morning to see if they could fit me in to take a look. Joseph said to come by in 30 min, and had the car up and the tire fixed right away and I was back on my way in 20 min, and they didn't even charge me for it! Now that's what I call good service!! read more

Poor customer service After getting a good quote for work I needed done on my brakes, I brought my car in on a Saturday. I was told the work would be done the same day, but later that day was told that it would not be done until Tuesday (holiday weekend). I understand that things happen and there are extenuating circumstances. On Tuesday, I was told my car would be ready to pick up at the end of the day. Great! Then, I was told that the parts arrived late but it would definitely be ready by 10AM Wednesday morning. Frustrating, but okay. When I arrived Wednesday afternoon to pick up my car, it was up on the left with the front wheel off. Only then did I find out that they had the wrong part and I would need to pick it up on Thursday. No phone call or message to let me know. No apologies. Irritating. Five days after I was initially told my car would be done (for a one day job), I picked it up. Then, I was told that one of the services I was quoted for and told the car needed was not completed because it did not in fact need that service. Why was I told I did? Why was that included in the quote? Finally, they tried to charge more than the quoted price (for doing less work). When I called to ask about all of this, I was given short responses and little information by the supervisor, Sam, who worked on my car. Infuriating. read more

Had brake pads and rotors replaced. Soon after, calipers locked up, quickly wearing out new pads and rotors. They replaced pads, rotors and calipers, hoses and brake fluid at no charge. Brakes are like new. Dealer wanted over $1400 for this work. Can't ask for fairer than that. read more

A longtime customer of Mavis at another location. Not pleased at this one. I had a 10:00 appt for an oil change and tire rotation. Simple I thought. I had a coupon. Of course expected to wait for my car. An hour or two maybe I thought. I was told it would be ready by the time they closed at six!!!! Had to get my husband to pick me up. I called at four and was told it wasn't ready and would be by six. Then I was told the charge was over $100. Are you kidding me??? He said they used synthetic oil which I neither requested or approved. There was no indication on the receipt that the tires had been rotated and I was too aggravated to ask about it. When I get my oil changed at valvoline they check all the systems. No indication any of that was done here. And even though I requested it, my washer fluid was not filled. Made an appointment online for an oil & oil filter change at 4pm. Got off work a bit early and arrived at 3:30, expecting to wait. Counter staff told me to take a seat, "we'll get to you right away." FFWD to 4:30 and numerous customers serviced...not even a look in my direction,or acknowledgement that I was (still) there. I just got up and left. When this shop opened as an STS a few years ago, it was a godsend. Since Mavis took over? Not impressed. read more

I've been there 3 times now and the experience is decidedly meh. Quality of work seems OK-ish, but customer service is severely lacking. You can't make appointments. Customers are more or less served on a first-come basis. This is, unfortunately only fully true if you wait around. This wouldn't be so bad if it's a little thing you need help with, but it appears that no matter what time you get there, the wait is going to be at least 1-2 hours before they can even get to your problem. Now, if you decide you don't want to wait for your car and leave, they will get your car in whenever. The people waiting around seem to get priority treatment. When you call in to check on status, you will invariably get "we're working on it right now." The guy at the front desk (I dealt with him twice now) is quite uninspired. He will do his job, but it's just the bare-minimum effort. The contrast to the automated telephone-answering voice, which is insanely over-exuberant is quite stark. You go from super-duper enthusiasm to barely audible/understandable "this is hnghng, how can I help you?" Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any competitors in the area. You could go to Ewing, but somehow I don't expect customer service there to be any better. read more

Called tonight to ask if they were able to fix a break light. They told me to come right in. No waiting, super helpful and friendly and got the job done. Very happy, especially since the delivery time on Amazon for the bulb was two weeks and I would have had to fit it myself :) read more

Posted this on the one on RT 33 in Hamilton as well since I went to both. STAY FAR AWAY! Check engine light came on in March and went to this Mavis. Spent $250 for the fix and when I went to pick it up the check engine light was still on. I went back in and told the employee and he said it'll automatically turn off. It didn't. Went to the Mavis in pennington (a week later) because a friend worked there that I trust. He wasn't in that day and they had someone else "fix" it. Told me it was the coils and replaced them for $900. Now it's May and I'm having to go to the new AAA because of the same issues and they are telling me my coils are bad. The ones that should have been replaced the first time. So I'm out yet another $800. read more

I have used this Mavis location for several years for tires, batteries, and general maintenance. They have always been reasonably priced, friendly, and turned the job around quickly. I have an older Volvo and they replaced a battery last July. It is not a heavily used vehicle and when the battery was having some problems, they quickly diagnosed the problem and replaced the battery at no charge. Much appreciated and recommended. read more

Customer service stinks at this place. Even with an appointment expect to wait at least 3 hours. Got 4 new tires at the advertised price of 104 but then they add on storage and handlinf fees of another 20 per tire, makinfg them just as expensive as the other tire dealers. Beware of the added fees. They keep you waiting endlessly for someone to talk to you and they are very shoddy with their work. I had 3 out of the 4 new tires that did not have valve caps on the valve stems.I had givene them a second chance as the first time i took my husbands car and had new tires put on and 2 days later the hubcap went missing. I went back and told them about it but they could have cared less. Would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I visited this shop first on 01/25/2015 after seeing positive reviews and also STS my friend recommended STS (not this store). After the car inspection by a technician, I was told over the phone that there were so many things wrong with my car. I asked them to go ahead and fix those. Total bill was around 1100+. Although i was skeptical, I was fine with this as I authorized them to fix everything. My second visit was on 07/30/2015 and it was around 2 pm. I visited because my car failed NJ state inspection and I wanted to get an estimate for the codes that were mentioned by inspection agency. I was asked to come next day early morning. Next day I was there at 8 am, I was told that they will call me with the estimates. I did not receive a call from them for the entire day, I called them back at 3 pm and they told me that they are still looking at my car. I went back to shop at 4:30 pm when I was done for the day at work. My car was still outside and no one has touched it. At 4:45 pm, my car went it and it was out before 5:00 pm. At 5:00 pm, I was told that there are again number of things wrong with my car and I would need a repair of 2,200+. I declined repairs and I was given the same codes which were initially there. I was handed a bill of 135.04 which included an hour of labor at 117.95 (+sales tax) which looked like a joke to me because only a single technician spent like 10 minutes on my car. Of course, I do not like their pricing because I took my car to the dealership and it was fixed for a lesser amount. However, this is review more about their attitude less about pricing. The lady who took my keys in morning was so rude and the gentleman who informed me about 2200+ repair in the evening was talking to me politely but as soon as I declined repairs his attitude and tone also changed. I paid 135 for something which was already mentioned by inspection agency, all I needed was an estimate for repair. I am sad that I spent that money, but I am happy that I took car elsewhere and don't need to go to this shop again for any business. Note for STS managment for this shop: I understand you are employee owned and majority of profit will go to you guys but at least learn how to treat your clients fairly and politely. read more

Can a heterosexual man fall in love with a tire distribution center? Apparently the answer is "yes". Both the Pennington and the Somerville location have always done right by me. They always quote the price before they do the work, they do the work properly and every once in a while will go the extra mile without being asked (like the day my girlfriend's windshield wiper came dislodged in post an ice storm and it was too cold for her to pop it back on. She stopped at STS and asked Dwayne if he could help out and he did, or like the day my car was making an insufferable noise and a pebble had gotten stuck somewhere near the rotors). Kudos to both these locations for doing right by their customers. I can't say enough nice things about these locations. P.S. - This used to be an STS. They got bought up by Mavis but they retained the staff. Let's hope they continue to be as awesome as they were when they were STS, read more

This happened on a weekend and after trying two other businesses with no success I decided to give Mavis a chance. Boy did they come through. First of all, I cannot believe I'm leaving a review for an auto center. I truly hate going to any of these places. People are usually rude and assume you have to know everything about your car. Anyway, back to STS. This place looks modern and clean; there was even a little coffee station for customers. The employees were kind and not pushy. I needed whiles alignment and oil change. I just left this left establishment for the last time. I will never go back. After years of taking cars to them they have literally shot themselves in the foot. One of the worst experiences I've ever had with vehicle service. I dropped my GMC Sierra off at 9am for a routine oil change. Something I have done dozens of times since I've owned it. No word until 2:30p. I had to call as usual. Strike one. I asked what the total was and was a bit shocked. $80.000 for an oil change. I asked why. They said because they used synthetic oil. I asked that they look at the computer and see the vehicle history. Since my last oil change was synthetic, they assumed that's what I wanted. All previous oil changes were NOT synthetic and I told them they messed up last time. Don't ever assume what the customer wants. Strike two. I always get a tire rotation with my oil change and after realizing that I had forgotten to request this, I asked if they could do the tires and reset the TPM sensors before I leave. The manager said no problem. He said he would also discount the price on the oil change because they made an assumption. Still two strikes but at least things were looking up. After about 20 minutes, the manager comes in and says, we broke a lug nut stud off trying to remove the lug nut. He then asks, where or who put the lug nuts on so tight. I said Mavis. He said, we'll have to send out for parts and we'll get it repaired. At this point, I'm approaching being out of work by 1 hour and 30 minutes. The parts arrive and the truck is fixed and the keys are handed over to me. Feeling unnerved by the incompetence of the mechanics and workmanship I did a walk around of the truck before leaving. There was a lug nut missing. Strike three. But the game isn't over yet. I asked that the manager come out. He walked out and said, what's the problem ! I said I'm missing a lug nut, weren't you going to tell me about that? He said, we told you it broke. ??? I asked, where's the lug nut? He said, why? It was laying on the concrete under the car lift. He said, here you go, but I don't know what your going to do with it. I said, I'm still missing a lug nut ?!?! The manager said, what do expect, it broke .... (here's the thing that set me off) .... you're the one that asked for a tire rotation !!! The conversation escalated from there and I walked away with a new lug nut stud BUT a missing lug nut. He didn't even offer to put something on to get me home. Again, the conversation escalated and three of the employees began laughing as if THIS was my fault and I no right to be upset. What kind of customer service is this??!?! The mechanic that actually did the work (older, and obviously with some work ethic) came out and offered to try and get a lug nut on the vehicle that would work. At this point it became a war of words between the manager and myself and him threatening to call the police after I called him and his staff at Mavis incompetent. Is this how Mavis treats their customers?! Is this the kind of people that are hired to work here?! I get sub-par service and can't voice my displeasure. I didn't make the mistakes, Mavis Tire did .....and you want to call the police and have me removed because you can't handle criticism?! What ever happened to customer service and the customer is right no matter what? You don't burn bridges with your paying customers. The manager actually asked that I never come back because I was being unreasonable to his staff. WHAT !?!?!? The manager at the Rt. 31 Mavis Tire ought to be fired immediately for being incompetent and down right RUDE !! The former STS on Rt. 31 has gone down the tubes since it changed to Mavis Tire. One star rating is too generous !! Absolutely horrible, horrible service !!!! I will NEVER go back. read more

I was recommended to come here by a friend when I asked where I should get my flat tire repaired. They were so personable and friendly when I walked in. They were also so flexible with my schedule- they even waited for me past closing time so that I could pick up my car. I needed my wheels balanced for my 2009 ///M3 and I was hesitant on going here as my car had "special" alloy wheels. I was reccommended by my peers to just pay the extra $$ and go to a BMW dealership. They ended up doing a great job and my car drives smooth like it should. I didn't like that they don't allow customers watch their cars get worked on within the shop though. This was a concern as I didn't see them properly torque my wheels but only heard the airgun...I dont know maybe its just because im a big car guy but I have always been able to watch my car within the shop. read more

I tried to wait for resolution before posting this, but I can't wait any longer. Took daughter's car in for an oil change. Mavis identified a strut and tire problem repaired it and charged $900+, 48 hours later, as my daughter is driving to college, loud noise as if something broke under her car. She stumbles to the nearest repair shop, and the wheels/brakes lock up completely before she can get into a parking space. Upon inspection, they find that Mavis service personnel, broke something in her wheels and left the broken piece in her brakes, it rattled around destroying the brakes, and resulting in a $1200 repair. Called Mavis, emailed copies of receipts, photos of damaged parts, etc. and requested a full refund both for the work they did poorly, and the subsequent repairs. Was told I don't know how many times that someone would call me back...no one ever calls. I call them twice a week, and nicely remind them that I am still waiting. Eventually I call again, and the manager says his regional supervisor authorized payment only on the subsequent damage, nothing for the fact they did a poor, and dangerous, job initially. So I call back, and they offer an additional $500 repair credit...as if I am ever going to let them touch one of my cars again, they almost caused my daughter to have a major accident. So I say that is unacceptable. Again, promises of a call back from the regional manager, no one ever calls back. So I called again today, get put on hold for 10 minutes, ostensibly because he is trying to reach the regional manager, but I think he is just helping someone else. Then he comes back on and says he is now going to try to reach the regional guy (not sure what he did for the past 10 minutes), and will call me back. So here I am...what are the odds anyone calls me back? To be continued. read more

Stopped in without an appointment for an oil change. I was really impressed by their customer service. I go to STS in Princeton as well and live in between but I think this will be my "go-to" STS. They miscommunicated the cost of my oil change which should have been about $50 more but they held their word and charged me the original amount they quoted. Barring any issues with how my car is driving I will be back. Waiting room is also clean, has enough magazines, etc. read more

This will be long, because I want to be fair to all involved. As a summary, cheapest price by a small margin, poor pre-service, neglectful damage, exceedingly poor customer service after damage. As I have gotten older I have become more dependent on others to do work. Mavis was very helpful on the phone and had the OEM tires I needed. Mde an appointment to have them do the work the next day. My wife ended up waiting for several hours with the kids before they actually started the work. The next day I did my usual check tire pressures and lug nuts. As is the norm the tire pressures were much higher than required by the car maker. Lug nuts were put on so tight that I barely go them loose using a 2 foot breaker bar before retighten to an appropriate torque. Good luck to my wife if she needed to change a tire. I noticed that the left rear center cap was damaged. I removed the wheel so I could push it out to try to fix it, and noted that the center cap irreparable. I tried to determine how it had been damaged because 36 hours prior it was perfect as I had personally moved it from my winter wheels to my summer wheels. As I looked closer at the wheel and the center cap it was clear that the center cap had been pried out--almost certainly with a screwdriver. If they did it on one wheel.....Yup all four wheels, leaving chipped paint and damage on all four like new wheels. I drove to the store immediately. When I walked up to the counter Drew (who identified as the store manager) snorted, "What did we do wrong now." I said it was hopefully a small issue. He immediately ushered, out of the waiting room. I explained my concern to him showing him the on each wheel--he didn't look he just told me that they don't need to remover the center caps to change and balance the tires. I told him that was untrue. He then stated that they would never use a screwdriver to remove the center caps--and yet someone had in the last 36 hours. He then admitted that the severely damaged center cap may be his responsibility because it may have fallen on the ground. He offered to maybe replace a single center cap (He had said that they don't need to remove the center caps). I told him that it wouldn't be needed as I will have to go about the issue in a different way. He told me that he would review the surveillance tape and asked me to leave me my name and number. I told him that I would like to be there when they review it and he said OK. A week passed and I had not received a call so I returned to the store. Drew asked me what he could do for me. I inquired if they had watched the video. He indicated he had and no one had used a screwdriver, because they don't do it that way, in fact the gentleman behind him had been there at the time (this person later identified himself as Jon Edwards, Service Manager). I asked him why they hadn't called me to watch the video as agreed. He said he never said he would do that. He gave me a corporate number to call as I asked him about the ownership of the shop. He was terse and advised that no one owns the shop it is owned by the corporation and that he had no supervisor. I asked him if I could have the shop's insurance company information to share with my insurance company. He told me they don't have an insurance company . He said that he was finished with to me cursed me and left. Jon then asked me to follow him so he could show me how they remove the wheels. He took me to a tire balancer and showed me how they punch out the center cap from the rear with the spindle on the balance. He asked me what he could do for me. I told him there is not much he could do for me unless he was Drew's supervisor. He said he works for Drew, but Drew was not his supervisor and he does not answer to Drew. I told him about my concerns and he asked me to give him a few days to see what he could do. However he said that it will ultimately need Drew's approval as his supervisor. I thanked him for his time and left the store. It has been over a month, I have heard nothing. read more

Brought my car in because my daughter skidded into a curb and popped the hubcap. Asked them to check the tire, rim and put the hubcap back on. Of course, they came back with the suggestion that I get 4 new tires. After agreeing to two, I was told they were not in stock and to leave the car and wait a day. At 4pm the next day i was told the tires were never delivered and it would be done first thing the third day. At 10am the third day I was told the order had been cancelled (no explanation why). I'll give them credit for scrambling to get me tires anyway that day, but drove home only to find that the hubcab was still sitting in the back seat. Really? read more

I called and they said they could take me now for alignment and new tires, and when I walk in they say it will be 1.5-2 hours until they can get me in. Another customer came in right after me and had the exact same experience. The guy at the desk muttered something about "take it up with national" when he expressed his annoyance. When they first opened, this place was a Godsend because there's no other real mechanics in the area. Now however, they seem to be taking advantage of that fact and doing shoddy work when they do it at all. This morning I took my Subaru in for a simple oil change and tire rotation, and they didn't rotate the tires (this happened once before so I've gotten in the habit of marking the tires) and the car is leaking oil. I have to go back and have everything done properly and you can bet this is the absolute last time I go here. read more

Purchased a set of 4 tires on your website with an installation date, confirmation, and a turnaround time of 3 hours. Needless to say that one person said that they didn't have the reservation nor did they have the tires. Promised that the tires will there by 2pm that day and be done by 4pm, I changed my plans and was expecting that. Called the store at 3 to check the status, to find out that the tires were still not off of the delivery truck. To save time for everyone, the bottom line is when I addressed all of these issues with the manager, he kept placing blame on others, not once taking ownership of his store and the company he represents. Rude management and the lack of customer service will deter me from returning or recommending this place again to anyone. Sad, since Im a local business owner as well. read more

I have been here to get an oil change a handful of times, and have had no issues. However on my most recent trip back, I was extremely disappointed. I called the day prior to make an appointment to get my oil changed the next day. When I went in for my appointment I was 15 minutes early. The man at the front desk asked what I was in for, I told him I had an appointment for an oil change. He said he'd be right with me, however I waited for about 10 minutes while he kept taking other walk in customers who were behind me (and completely disregarding the fact that I was patiently waiting) He even watched tv for a few minutes instead of helping. Then he walked in the back to hand the mechanics the other customers (who didn't have appointments) paper work and keys. When he came back to the desk, he AGAIN asked what I was in for, I told him I had made an appointment to get my oil changed the day before (by now I was there for about 15 minutes) he looked me up in the computer and said there wasn't an appointment. I was very confused considering I spoke with a man the day before, who took all of my information, and confirmed my appointment at the end of our conversation. I said okay, and asked how long the wait would be for an oil change. He told me it would be at least an hour before they even took my car back, and about another hour or so for the service. I declined and took my business elsewhere. What was the point of making an appointment?! I'm very disappointed, and won't be back. Today left a very bitter taste in my mouth. read more
