Very professional and nice folks, however i feel cheated. I just got my battery changed which took less than 10 minutes charged me $72 for labor, plus no body told me they charge 4% on credit cards, when I go to pay the bill they added the 4%. They said i could walk across the street and take out cash and not pay 4%, question is why did they not inform me before hand. Screamed and threatened me when I objected the inflated charge. Did not accept any method of payment other than cash. Held me and my car hostage until my boyfriend brought in cash for me. Meanwhile, parked my car on a pile of rubbish with pieces of broken glass and metal sticking out. How is this car service still in business? I see I wrote a review bad review for them 10 years ago and today I'm going to write another one. I contacted AAA for a tow and Riverside shows up. Guy proceeds to ask me to do his job for him, turn the wheel of a car that is dead and much too hard for me. He insists I just try harder and keep turning the wheel. When I complained about it, turns out he was reporting to his boss that I was being rude to him. Didn't know it was rude to ask someone to do their job that you're paying for! When I spoke to his boss about the exorbitant towing fee they were then charging me, he proceeded to call me a Karen and told me to just hope I never have to find another tow in Greenwich. OUTRAGEOUS!!!! I have reported them to AAA and I would highly advise people not to use this service. I'm only rating five stars because Yelp doesn't allow ten star ratings, which Riverside Service absolutely deserves. I bought a Honda Civic, great car, it needed a few things. Most notably a clutch and eventually air conditioning work. I took my vehicle to Riverside and Frank was able to guide me through buying not only a decent clutch, but a GREAT clutch for the way I drive and the way I wanted to perform. He had me in and out in a matter of a few days. Months later, my heat went. I took it back to Frank. He diagnosed the car with a cracked water jacket in the head, and advised I replaced the motor. A no brainer, I'm having Riverside handle it. My car was done the next week with an excellent used motor, heat working, ran like a champ, all at a very affordable price. I couldn't be happier. A few months later, I hear the dreaded rod knock coming from my motor. It happens sometimes. I called Riverside and it was explained to me that while I was over my 60 day warranty, they'd still have a look at it. A day later I received a phone call from Frank not only expressing his empathies, but also stating they were just going to replace the motor for free anyway and would have me done in a week. A week later, my Civic was as good as new, and they even went so far as to have my vehicle detailed for me. In life, we all have choices. Dishonest business... Told 'Frank' I needed brake pads and rotors. He quoted me $800, which was in-line with three other repair shops in the area who quoted me about the same price. These quotes were for replacing ALL FOUR brake pads and rotors (front and rear). While the car was on the lift, Frank called me to say my car needs rear pads also...!?!?!? They gave me a quote for half the job then charged me nearly twice the quoted price to complete the work. I had no practical choice but to pay the additional price for rear pads. Classic bait and switch. I am absolutely certain I did not ask for only front brakes during the quoting process. I shopped this around and had confirmed quotes for both front and back from several other shops. Why he assumed I wanted only front brakes and not both, I'm not sure. No other shop did. And why are they charging for only two sets of brakes what other shops are charging for all four? Completely dishonest practice. Do not have your car towed here. NEVER use this scumbag "service" company. Today there was a Riverside Service Van on the road driving like an inmate. The Driver of this van blew threw a stop sign on the corner of Field Point Road causing me to slam my brakes and swerve into a small tree on the side of the road. The driver of the Riverside service van flipped me off while blowing the stop sign and proceeded to continue on and not stop. He may have not seen me swerve into the tree, but he left the scene and left with 0 consideration for my well being or any accountability. The police officer showed up almost 45 minutes later with no real help for me and basically told me im on my own and she can't help me. The officer was nice enough to go with me to Riverside Service Station where the entire company denied it. Low level employees and human beings coming out of Riverside Service Station. We needed one of the vans from my fleet to be towed out of a driveway, we called roadside assistance for Chrysler dodge, apparently they are on there list of service providers. We shortly received a call from someone in that company refusing to work with us. Apparently he had an issue with someone named John at a different company, the fellas exact words were "he use to give us a lot of business and now he doesn't anymore, you guys only call us when you need us". I assumed that being a service provider meant to provide service when someone needs it, I guess that's not what they believe in riverside srvc. My Audi broke down on a trip and the AAA tow came from these guys, nearby. I know a fair amount about cars so knew pretty much what it likely was, and they didn't play any games about making it sound worse than it was. They didn't do any game playing about making things worse or adding extra work. They expedited things as much as possible and got it all done pretty much on time (a couple hours late), the next day which was really critical for the trip (a death in the family). The communications were good all along the way. The price was fair, but not cheap and they used good quality parts (as confirmed by my local mechanic at home). The hourly rate is high 105., but I guess that's Greenwich for you. Triple AAA said there would be a 10% discount if I used them, which I didn't get (I forgot to ask about in all the hurry and stress) but should have been applied. A nearby Enterprise helped keep me on my way and they had some kind of deal with these guys it seems. All in all, they were really very good given the circumstances of a roadside breakdown and urgent repair needed. I wouldn't hesitate to use them if I lived nearby. they aren't slick like some chain or dealer but professional as any independent garage gets. Based on the reviews here, and in life, just be very clear as to what your expectations are up front and I think they will take care of you. read more

I had work done on my Lexus IS 250 in May 25, 2017. I had the rear brake pads and rotors replaced, both calipers replaced as well as hoses, plus break fluid at a total cost of $948.93. That is a lot of bread. The car has only gone an additional 10 thousand miles as of this posting since the new break job. You would think that the brakes would have lasted with so little miles on them. They didn't. After taking it to another repair shop, the old Bluebird Garage in Easton, Ct to check out a burning smell from the pad, Chris, the owner of the garage, said that these brakes were down to the metal and should have lasted a lot longer than that. He said it was worth a call before he took on the job and that I should talk to Riverside to see if we could work out a deal of some kind ie they pay for new parts and I pay for labor because undoubtedly the job was faulty in some way. Riverside would not budge since the work was done over a year ago and out of warranty. I was out of luck and they would charge me the same price to replace the brakes. Ouch! I decided to have the job done by this other guy, Chris at Old Bluebird Garage in Easton. He did a great job for a lot less money and he said if I have any problems no matter how many years have gone by that he will take care of me. AAA tow service took me to Riverside so I had no choice, but they lost my business for good. They will only stand by their work if it's under warranty and even then they were making excuses about their work saying brakes can go anytime if you drive rough. Blame the customer. The point is, they wanted nothing to do with me after the check was cashed. No customer service. They didn't even say "I'm sorry for the inconvenience." Nothing! So, buyer beware. read more

Nothing like planning a day with your daughter, who lives halfway around the world and is home for a visit, when her car completely gives it up in a parking lot outside an urgent care center, in an unfamiliar town. A quick call to AAA connected us to Riverside Service, Inc. who promptly came to our rescue. They not only came equipped to replace her very old battery but worked in sync with AAA and provided us with a tow to their service station less than a mile from where we were. The mechanics quickly diagnosed the issue of a bad starter, ordered one to be delivered and in about two hours, replaced it and got us on the road once again. am honestly shocked and appalled by the behavior of this business, particularly during this pandemic. My elderly father and I went to pick up his car, and knocked on the door per the sign that was posted. The woman sitting at the desk told us to come inside, and when I asked her if we could discuss outside she said "you can go outside while he (my father) is in here". Mind you, she said this WITHOUT a mask!! Not only did she not follow the sign posted by the business, but she put my father's health at risk!! If that was not enough, this woman had such an awful attitude when we were asking about the bill. She had no problem acknowledging the extra tax on credit cards vs. cash, but when we asked about the AAA discount (which is literally posted on the desk), she raised her voice and said she doesn't make the bill. We then asked to speak to the owner, to which she said that the owner had left. We asked her if she could call the owner, to which she said no, and then said that the owner would not pick up. So to be clear, she gave us an attitude about a discount that is explicitly stated and claimed she couldn't do anything, but refused to contact the person who could? As for the billing, we were charged over $200 and the shop didn't even fix anything! I wish I had read the reviews on yelp before coming here. My family will never return here again. The terrible customer service, the overcharging, and the sheer lack of respect during a pandemic is outrageous and quite frankly, despicable. Riverside Service recently replaced the alternator on our Ford Explorer. When they returned the car, the electronic ignition key was broken. Because the key was still functioning, we decided not to say anything about it. After two weeks, the key stopped working, so we went back to Riverside to request a replacement. They did not deny that they had broken it, but refused to pay for the replacement key because we had "waited too long to complain." The replacement key cost us $240 in total. They could have been honest by flagging the broken key when we picked it up. And then they could have had the integrity to pay for the cost of their mistake. Given the lack of integrity in how they handled this issue, I DO NOT RECOMMEND this repair shop. read more

Imagine your car hitting a protruding pothole or sewer cover (or whatever the H it as) somewhere near Greenwich, CT on a crappily maintained city street. BAD SERVICE + BAD MANAGEMENT= STAY CLEAR!!! To summarize the situation; our 2007 Toyota Yaris broke down on Interstate 95 on September 28, 2014. After calling AAA, the car was towed by Riverside Service to their garage in Cos Cob which was also AAA approved. Three days after the engine was replaced at Riverside and the Toyota driven away, the car overheated on a New Hampshire interstate because the serpentine belt installed by Riverside mechanics had snapped. Immediately following the belt replacement, the car's transmission began slipping. After bringing the Toyota to another, trusted, garage in Massachusetts, we were informed the axle was bent which caused a transmission seal to fail and leak. The reason the axle bent was because a Riverside mechanic neglected to install a "locking ring" on the axle shaft. These repairs, a direct result of subpar worked performed at Riverside, cost our family over $500.00... a figure that does not take into account damage done to the car's left front fender while stored haphazardly on the street outside Riverside Service awaiting repair. In late October, I began asking Riverside's owner, Mr. Al Jagodzinski, to do the right thing and reimburse us for the extra expenses incurred as a result of work done at his garage. Despite phone calls, emails and faxes, Mr. Jagodzinski failed to offer any restitution and, in fact, ignored all attempts to contact him other than a promise that a check was "in the mail". Since our family members are AAA customers, and because we have trusted AAA auto repair and towing recommendations in the past, I think you can understand how disappointed and upset we were that a AAA endorsed company would behave in this unprofessional manner. AAA has a long and proud history, one that has not been served well (if these Yelp reviews are any indication) by Mr. Jagodzinski and his garage in Cos Cob. Worst towing experience I've ever had. After setting up roadside assistance through my insurance company at 10:20am, I received an email confirming they would show up at 12:10pm. Ok, not as quick as I would like, but I can wait... At 12:30 I called them to ask where they were only to be dealt with in a curt and unprofessional manner. The man I spoke with told me they would be there within the next half hour. Fair enough. An hour and a half later I call again, only to be told it's going to take another hour at least before they can help me out. Keep in mind that I am located in Old Greenwich, less than a ten minute drive from their location. At 4:00pm, I called for the last time to ask what was happening. This time, a much more polite gentleman told me sincerely that he didn't want to lie to me and that they weren't going to be able to help me today. While this was the worst news I had heard so far, at least this man was honest and upfront. Great, thanks for wasting my day Riverside Service. I created a Yelp account specifically to write this review. This is a business NOT to be trusted. "Frank" and his crew are not honest and overcharge. Our car had issues and my wife wanted to try someone new and closer to home so they diagnosed a lot of issues and ended up giving us a charge of close to 4k and they triple charged us for "diagnostics" which is $150 alone. After a month after these repairs the car broke down. They said it would be another 5k to fix. I took it to my regular guy and he was able to fix the issue for less than 500 and said the ones who looked at this either don't know what they are doing or are trying to cheat you. So take it how you want either they are clueless or crooks, the result is the same STAY away from them and make sure you tell others. read more

They had the car for quite awhile before I got a quote. Everytime I called it seemed like they forgot they had the car. Tried to charge me for storage for the week they had the car prior to diagnosis. I opted to have it fixed elsewhere. Manager wasn't happy with my decision so he refused to take a credit card. I explained that I didn't carry a very large amount of cash around, so he gave me a "break" by taking 300 cash and agreeing to put the rest on credit card?!?Overall, the whole thing was a nightmarish experience you'd rather avoid. After all that, the "broken radiator and air conditioning compressor" were fixed with a $0.60 hose connector. My car was towed in with the need for a new clutch. We were quoted that with everything it would be 1395. That included all parts and labor. Total ripoff when we went to pick up the car charging 5 per cent more bc "we do it right". Said that it took 7.5 hours of labor and that was what we were quoted in the estimate. First of all, there's two listings for Riverside Service in Yelp, one being this one, with their old address (...but current phone number) and full of negative reviews, and the other one being another page with no reviews but their current address. I'm understandably confused, but I have to assume this page is still the Riverside Service that just towed my car. Second of all: 5 stars. All the stars. Will is a wonderful guy and a damn good tow truck operator. I used the AAA app to summon a tow from a parking lot on Greenwich Ave. The app helpfully informed me that my human would be coming from Riverside Service, and that I should expect to wait a mere 34 minutes for his or her (probably his) arrival to my automovehicle. I automatically knew that by 34 minutes, they meant 3.4 hours, so I put on my waiting hat and started rationing my Logic electronic cigarette's remaining nicotine for my long wait. 15 minutes later, Will showed up in his big-ass car-haulin' flatbed thing. I was incredulous but hopeful. Was this my guy? No rushed telephone call asking me what the app should have told them already? Nobody asking me where I am, because they "just drove past where you supposed to be at" and they didn't see me? Those idiots. No, none of that crap. Just a guy dutifully showing up to my exact locale within 15 minutes of placing the request. This is a pleasant surprise, I mused. I muse quite a bit, actually. This whole ordeal turned out to be the most pleasant and uplifting tow experience I've ever had. "Why the dealer?" he asked, when I told him where I was going with my old BMW. "Yeah I know right? Well, I trust them...and they'll give me a loaner," I replied. "Enough said!" he said with a smile and a hearty laugh. This guy isn't condescending and standoffish! He's an actual nice guy! This kinda set the tone for the whole thing. Despite a tight spot and a weird angle, he got my car up with efficiency and obvious know-how, gingerly reminding me how to correctly help without making me look like a total dolt, which I am in these situations (do other people always leave the handbrake on like an idiot too, like I do? No? Anyone?). He even had the thoughtfulness to reach in and turn the key off before I even had to ask. What a guy. When I reminded him I requested to be towed like an hour away, he scoffed reassuringly and said no big deal. He seemed happy to make the drive. Once the car was up, he gave me a nod and we hopped in the truck. Noticing my e-cig, he struck up a conversation about it, and immediately we began hitting it off. Laughing, having real conversation. He's down-to-earth, very easy to talk to, and just a calm, positive presence. Not a single bad thing to say about the guy. A great driver, too. The whole hour-long haul to Poughkeepsie was like hanging out with a buddy. We talked cars and music-making and life in general. Very thoughtful, intelligent talk. I can't say that about most conversation I have with tow truck drivers, or anyone else. He got me to BMW of the Hudson Valley safely and sanely, lined up and unloaded my car into the spot like a friggin' glove ("Damn, you're good!" "Yeah, damn look at that!"), and after some goodbyes and pleasantries, disappeared into the milky night...but not before exchanging emails with a promise to stay in touch. This was something I would not normally expect from a situation like this. Normally it's an awkward ride and a meaningless exchange. No, not with Will. Riverside did not let me down. Despite the dirge of Yelp negativity from the well-meaning but moronic public, my experience with their towing was top-notch, and I will not add to the negativity. I can't speak for their in-shop service or other drivers, but I can speak for Will's professionalism. I hope I get so lucky next time. read more
