STAY AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION!! I should have read the reviews before my bringing my car here. They didn't listen to our initial instructions about using a rim with a working sensor and "forgot" to replace my headlight that was listed in the work order. Whatever- mistakes happen. But after spending $1000 on a new set of tires, I at least expect my new tires to be in working order and unfortunately they used the rim that did not have a working sensor. When we brought back the car to rectify the situation the "manager" was getting into it with my husband and insulting his workers as well which did not sit right with me. He did not take any ownership of the mistakes made by his team but still somehow found ways to put down his employees. That was the part that led me to write this review. We are a two car family that needed a reliable service. We read the Mavis reviews but wanted to see for ourselves, especially about the service and management at the Maple Ave location in Smithtown. We made an online reservation for an inspection because our time is scarce to get these things done. Arrived at the specified time to be told by the "manager" behind the counter that he's all filled up! Can't take us only has one guy that does inspections. I told him I made a reservation and he said "oh you see thats the problem, I've told the office about this, it's first come first serve..." problem is this guy ignores the online reservations He saw it on the computer!!!! Been doing it for years apparently and Mavis Management has known about it and done NOTHING! It's all in the reviews which unfortunately I am now a part of. Last summer I had a tire blow on the Taconic with 2 small children in the car. Ugh it was the worst. I had all 4 tires replaced by Mavis on Central Park Avenue in Scarsdale. I am terrible at remembering to rotate my tires and while I was having my oil change in Queens yesterday the guy asked me if he wanted me to rotate them. Yikes. It's time! I went and looked at my receipt from Mavis and ta da they rotate your tires FOR FREEEE if you purchase them from Mavis. DEAL. I called and let them know I would be coming around 1:30pm and they set me up in the computer. FYI if you call the Mavis phone # it's a call center not the actual place. I got there at 1:30 and by 2:30 I was done! And there were cars before me. I asked the owner if I could tip my mechanic and he said yes so I threw him a couple of dollars. The owner also told me that he thinks I should have my shocks & Struts replaced but there was no hard sell at all. I never understood when Yelpers have such a terrible experience that they need to write the review then and there to let the world know. Sometimes you need to experience the full experience and leave and process it all to see how you feel and how you want to tell the story. And I say all of that to give my review of Mavis Discount Tire and the roller coaster ride of emotions that I felt while here. See below for what I am talking about. The tire pressure warning light goes on in my vehicle and I discover a bolt sticking out of the sidewall. This was prior to a work related meeting that I had in New Jersey. I usually prefer going to a tire shop in Queens, they are inexpensive and you get help quickly and you are on your way shortly afterwards. Done. But I was out in Suffolk County and did not want to risk blowing out the tire and/or be late to my meeting because of this annoyance. I hit up Google and found this place a little over a mile away from me. I pulled up and noticed it was busy enough. There was a man waiting in front of me to check his car in. The Assistant Manager (?) named Steve helped me at the front desk and we went through the motions. I told him about my time constraint and showed him the bolt in my tire. He advised that Mavis would not be able to remove and plug the tire because of the location in the side wall. That made sense to me. I asked him to just swap out the tire for the spare tire so I could be on my way. He said no problem and got my vehicle into the shop. This is a simple enough swap out to do. It should take 10 maybe 20 minutes max to complete the job. It was taking longer than that and the extra hour that I had to get to the meeting in time was disappearing as I sat there in the waiting room. I got anxious and checked out the van to see if it was in the shop. At one point, Steve also noticed I was sitting there a minute and went into the shop to double check and assured me soon enough it will be completed. Finally, after stressing a bit he let me know the tire was swapped out and printed out an invoice for $0.00 ....they would take care of it without charge. I would have looked like a crazy Yelper giving a negative review in that waiting room. You have to wait until the end to get the full experience! I have nothing bad to say about this Mavis Location. Second time I have used them for a flat tire repair. Second time they did NOT try to sell me a new tire. First time replaced tire "stem"..today patched a small hole. Total cost both visits: under $60.00. For today, made an on line appointment last nite for 9 AM this morning. After checking in with the manager, my car was on the lift in less then 10 minutes. Finished in about half an hour, maybe a bit less. Honest, efficient, and fair service provided. Will definitely return for my tire needs. Very satisfied! read more

I had originally spoken to the Islandia location about looking for my tires and they gave me a price of $170 for 2 tires. Their wait time was 2 hours, so the gentleman let me know that the Smithtown location had my tires and did not have a wait time. When I arrived at the Smithtown location, I verified the pricing was the same as what the Islandia location provided. When it was time to pay, my bill came to $390. That's over twice of what I was quoted, and it was all because they put the incorrect brand. Funny how they "accidentally" put the most expensive tires on my car. When I asked about the military discount for Veterans, I was so rudely mocked. It was a simple question that I felt was well worth asking. It is disgusting how companies like Mavis will take advantage of you. read more

I was genuinely surprised how bad the service was. Earlier otp I called them and the guy that answered was actually super nice and he said stuff like "yeah of course we'll take care of that for you" and he had a rly nice attitude as well. Then I got a missed call from them, called them back, now it's a different guy otp, I said I was returning their call & he gave me such a horrible attitude. Then, I get there 5 mins early and when I walk up to the register, he's staring down at the laptop completely ignoring my presence. And I damn well know it's the same guy that gave me an attitude otp. After abt 5 mins of awkward silence, I finally go "hi I'm here for an appointment for my wheels to be bal-" *he cuts me off* not even saying hi or letting me finish my sentence, he goes "what's ur name" and I said my name and he asks where my car was and I said it's outside, then we go outside and I was abt a couple of feet away from where he was standing and he was shaking his head and shrugging his shoulders aggressively bc my car was further than expected. Then I say "how long is this going to take? I'm only asking bc I'm on break rn and I have only one hour" in a soft happy tone and he gives me the most NASTIEST attitude and says "this wheels are a pain in the ass, it's gunna take about an hour and a half/two hours" and I said "oh okay nvm then, I appreciate it tho thank you" and he gives me such a nasty look and then randomly asked for my mileage and he said "I'll see you at 4;30" like bro I'm not coming back read more

Been there before with no complaint. This time I scheduled an appointment with Adam, who was very cordial on the phone. When I came in at the time of my appointment I was rudely told 'Booked, can't do it today.' When I said I made an appointment with Adam, I was told 'Well Adam isn't here today,' again, rudely. The most unprofessional and rip off company I have ever dealt with. They completely ruined my sons car. When I called to speak to the regional director, named MICHAEL BOSS- He was another unprofessional asshole who had no sympathy. Wasn't even apologetic for the bad service I received. He instead told me that "we watched the cameras" but decline to show me the footage. Their idiot mechanic put the wrong fluid for the brakes. And I ended up changing proportional valve and master cylinder along with reservoir at a different shop. Like how dumb can your 40 year experienced tech and you as a regional director can be? BE AWARE- do not go here!! They charged me $900 and didn't even fix my son's car- instead endangered my son's life!!!! We changed calipers. Got them new and did a brake flush. My son took a test drive and complaint about the issue at which point he was turned down for help because they said the parts needed to be broken in And now after a month or so when I came back they blamed it on my son for not coming back the next day of service being performed. I was incredibly put off by my last experience with this Mavis and didn't plan on returning. However I couldn't put off my oil change any longer and needed to go and I hadn't found a new place yet. My faith has returned! Mavis hired a new manager who has earned much of my trust back already. I never had a problem with the work but with the one on one service and respect from the employees who I engaged with directly. They couldn't find my first complaint and the regional manager was supposed to give me a call after he investigated the situation!! I made an appointment online a few months ago and when I got there, they told me I didn't have an appointment. I decided to wait because I really needed an oil change. This shop is now owned and operated by Mavis Tire. Russ and Anthony are gone but the old mechanics seem to have been retained. I have been going to this shop for decades, most of which time while Russ was manager. He was a consummate professional and a pleasure to interact with. I spent plenty of money repairing all of my vehicles over the years, replacing tires etc... and I am not going to go into detail but suffice it to say you better have a pretty good handle on automotive repairs or be prepared to have your wallet seriously lightened. They tried to sell me over $500 worth of unnecessary repairs and I have to wonder if I had fell for it would they have even replaced anything or just pocketed the money. That's the kind of vibe I get from this place now. So after they earned my trust in all that time while Russ was there they managed to destroy it in my first visit after them taking over. Now get this... this is the best, on the bottom of their receipt it says in bold red print :"WARNING: Lug nuts/bolts must be checked and retorqued immediately after the first 25 miles of use. Please return to STS immediately after 25 miles of your service so that we can check and retorque your lug nuts/bolts". In all my years of driving I have NEVER been asked, or needed to bring my vehicle back to have lug nuts retightened. I don't exactly understand their motive behind this statement but it just seems very suspicious. Terrible customer service here. The guy at the counter was very bad for any customer facing position. He was yelling at several people because the number google gives you routes the call upstate not the store so when people came in upset thinking they had appointments he rudely told them this and said they could wait or leave. This tire shop used to be friendly and helpful with any car problems we had. My whole family would take our cars here and receive excellent service. Recently, the front desk employees are extremely rude and unhelpful. I've been turned away when they couldn't help me with a starter issue, even though they installed the starter themselves. Used to go here regularly, one time they wouldn't serve my son because the job "wasn't worth it" and brought a car that had just had service done and checked to get an inspection and not a week after the check engine light went on. I don't normally follow up with writing reviews but I said I would...I called about needing a new tire due to a bubble in mine from hitting a pothole. They quoted me a reasonable price, had it in stock and made an appointment for the following morning with no problem. They called to say they wanted to match the tire to my car/other tires and were going to give me a better tire but honored the originally quoted price. They called to give me an update and suggested an alignment but weren't pushy. My car was done by lunchtime. The guys were very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely go back there and recommend them to others, it was a pleasure to deal with them! read more

On my way home from Work today my tire pressure light came on.. I googled what time Mavis in islandia,ny was open until as it would be the closest place for me to go.. it said 6pm.. I pulled in at 545 went inside where "Rich" greeted me .. I told him what was happening and with that he walked to my car to look at the tire. He then proceeds to show me what he called something very strong in my tire... after showing me this whatever it is he goes inside and comes back and says sorry the guy punched out already.. I said I thought you were open until 6? Yep he says but he punched out.. he puts air in my tire and tells me to come back tomorrow!!!! Seriously??? So here I am a single mom with a tire with something in it loosing air and he tells me to come back tomorrow???? When it was before closing time??? When I said I couldn't come back he had the nerve to ask me why!!!! I then took my car to pep boys where they were more than helpful stayed past closing hours just to help me... Beware, Russ is no longer there, he "retired". I dropped my truck off for tires and when I didn't see Russ I new something was up. Long story short, I was overbilled and then got an attitude when I questioned the bill. I was told by John (in Corporate) that a wheel alignment was $59.99 and when I looked at the bill they charged me $79.99, plus a $20 alignment discount. Yes, an added cost for a "discount". Typical auto service smoke and mirrors. Definitely not the same honest experience as in the past so I will not be returning. Just be careful. read more

I have been going to STS in Smithtown for a long time. I always feel like I am being treated fairly and Russ, Anthony and the crew always do a good job. We took our four year old vehicle for a simple inspection. Rashaud incorrectly put our vehicle on the lift causing the pads to go through the floor boards, resulting in our car being TOTALED. Not only was he negligent to cause this severe damage, he rang me up as if nothing happened, as if I wouldn't notice the floor boards sticking up into the vehicle. He was non-apologetic, nor remorseful and extremely rude about the damage he did to my vehicle "It's not that bad" per Rashaud. I had to file a Vehicle Incident Report through Mavis and waiting for call back from Michael Boss, the Regional Manager. Another nightmare. The most unprofessional, condescending, RUDE individual I've ever dealt with. Good luck trying to resolve anything through Customer Service. They are evasive and unhelpful. They would not put us through to upper management, nor give us any contact information. After one month of their shenanigans, they tried to low ball us on the car value forcing us to file a claim through our insurance. The most unprofessional, unethical, shady company. I stopped in a few days ago to see if I could get an inspection. The counter service person,Wayne, asked if I had an appointment which I did not. He turned me away saying he had too many others ahead of me. I went online and made an appointment for 11:30am this morning. I arrived a little after 11am with my appointment confirmation in hand. The service counter person laughed and said they only take people on a first come first serve basis and if I wanted to wait it would be at least two hours as there were four people ahead of me. What's the point of making an appointment then? He said there is none. They are meaningless. Why do they give that option then? He couldn't answer that. He gave me two options: 1. Leave my car and they'll try to get to it later (but I couldn't come back to pick it up); or 2. Call later and see how busy they are and then come back. And if I chose the second option, I wouldn't reserve my original place in line! At this point Wayne (the service man from the other day) comes out. He proceeded to argue with me that he never told me to make an appointment. He was angry and very rude. I've never been treated so disrespectfully. I followed MAVIS standard procedures but apparently this location does not. I don't know how they're still in business. In a customer service business, isn't the customer always right? Don't you do what you can to help them? I had begrudgingly accepted they weren't going to take me at 11:30am even though I had an appointment but where is the common decency of speaking to a customer in a professional manner? Poor customer service. My boyfriend warned me about how rude they were last time he went, but all I needed was an inspection and I'm right across the street. I called right when they opened at 8am and asked if it would be a good time to come in for an inspection. The man I spoke to was nice and told me they just opened so it would take about 20-40 minutes. I got there and there were many people waiting for their cars. I gave the guy my name and said I had just called- he gave me a rude look, shook his head, and said "I don't know." He claimed I spoke to the call center and not him. Then I asked if the 20-40 minute estimate was still accurate and he laughed and said "not even close." He said it would take 3 hours instead so I left and went to the other Mavis up the block on Main Street instead. Poor communication and very rude!! read more

Started out as honest and up front. Really felt like I could trust them. Over time however they consistently tried to up-sell me on things I did not need. I always said no, but then began to question the motivation behind the service. Last time I was there was on a Saturday morning where it's first come first served - it was cold and raining out and a bunch of us were waiting on line outside the door. The owner came, walked past the line and went in and re-locked the door to leave us, his customers, waiting outside in the cold and rain for an additional 10 minutes until opening time.
