Stay away from the Mavis in New Windsor. My son took his car there for an inspection and they told him he needed a brake fluid service and rear brakes. I just did the front brakes and checked the rear brakes while doing a brake fluid flush a month ago, all the pads and rotors were well above requirement, but something could have frozen up so when I did the rear brakes today. The rotors and pads were still all well above the requirements to pass. I went to Mavis to speak to a manager and was told they failed because of a score mark so shallow it would be hard to feel if your eyes were closed on rotors that were otherwise in good condition . [[HIGHLIGHT]]I asked him to explain how such a shallow score mark on an otherwise good rotor with evenly worn pads could possibly pose a safety issue and he could not answer me, he said it was at their discretion[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Here's a shocker an elderly woman just brought her car in for an inspection and guess what, she needed brakes too. She overhead me and asked my advise and I told her to take it to elswhere and recommended a local shop I use. I usually stay away from shops like Mavis for just this reason and always use a reliable local mom and pop shop for any work I'm not comfortable doing. Unfortunately he needed it done on short notice and I had just checked everything so I couldn't imagine it being a problem, but these franchise shops prove me wrong once again. The absolute worst place i've ever let do any work on my car. They broke my wheel studs and lug nuts and tried to tell me I brought my car there like that and they weren't responsible for it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I luckily had taken pictures in their parking lot prior to them bringing it in and was able to prove that was not the case.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They then agreed to "fixing" it. My brand new tires were put on my car and i've now had to replace two valve stems so they would hold air and have had to replace all of the lug nuts and wheel studs that they supposedly replaced since they were either still broken off inside my wheel or not appropriate for my car. My car has been in the shop four times since this company "did work" on it. Never again. read more

I won't go into a terribly long bashing as they have enough bad reviews that kind of give you the impression all is not well. I will say the manager and the staff behind the counter were very friendly, they were helpful and for reals they tried, I think at least. Simple story caught a slow leak took it on in a non busy Friday morning in and out in about an hour to fix a slow leak, aka plug the hole. Was alerted to needed to change my brakes but nothing out of the ordinary. Take car home I notice I lost 2 psi from the lot to the drive home but figure the crazy cold to be the culprit next morning my tire is all but flat, call take it back in the manager apologizes but makes me wait until all the other cars ahead of me are done which in my book is trash customer service considering I was there the day before. But I drop it off at 10am it wasn't done until 2pm totally blew my mind but ir was a Saturday I get that, my dad is a mechanic so I extended them grace. Then in the drive home the tire is still losing air even though they had assured me it was all done and perfect. Long story short I ended up plugging the tire myself in lieu of going back a third time because clearly they could not fin the hole. What shocked me was I found it within a minute with some soapy water and a spray bottle it was a piece of metal about an inch long in the middle of the tread. I literally have NO idea how they missed it. They had one job, it's called Mavis tire but wow did they blow that one. So in the end I didn't bother returning or perusing a refund because why. Beyond disappointed in the service, communication, and execution of completing a job(s). As a female walking into an auto shop alone... I DO NOT recommend coming here. I brought my car in to this location in Vails Gate in June 2023. I immediately after called to let them know that I was still having similar sounds/issues with the car and didn't feel safe. They said to come back or go to another location but unfortunately I was away and unable to get the car back in immediately. Fast forward to September and a few hundred miles later, I had to now replace more parts of the car. Again I drove the car back 30 miles 3 different times and felt that the car was worse than when I brought it back in and had the additional work put in. I even had my brother come with me to test drive the car to ensure we both heard the same noise. We did. After speaking to the manager I was told to come back. I did. Three different drivers took the car for a test drive. Mark had said my car was ready. I arrived back 2.5 hours later. When I returned my car was still in the shop getting work done and. I took the car for a test drive with the manager. Nothing wrong. I then told them a battery light had come on and they alerted me that additional work needed to be done. They let me sit there an from 12-5. Saying it would be done in an hour on and on. They alerted me I needed more work done. New tires, Bearings, Shocks, and now an alternator? No, I had just had that replaced. So- I don't recommend this place as I have zero trust. They don't tell you an approximate wait time and I have now lost 5 days with the car being in the shop, while they do nothing. Granted the car is old if nothing from this review understand that they will say they do not upsell but do, do not communicate at all, and will waste time and money. In addition, I had the mechanic I typically go to check the car over and he said no additional work (alternator) needed to be replaced. See your local mechanic and if you want get your tires and oil from here, that's it's. read more

This review is for back in Feb 2024. I went in for new tires but was told I needed new brakes, which was def a fact. It had been skipping a little. I have a very large vehicle. I didn't have the money up front to pay for all of the work. Anthony hooked me up with the flex plan for the tires and I was able to get all the work done. Antony is super helpful. When the work was complete and it was time to pay Andre (the supervisor) crunched the numbers and gave me all available discounts "legally" possible to match my budget. He got it done! Ty so much! I've dealt with Mavis in different locations and hated all of them so I wasn't really wanting to go to Mavis at all, but it's confidently located near 5 corners and I was able to just drop my car off and and the keys in the drop box because it was too early and the store was not open as yet. Customer service CHECK!!! I'd def recommend Mavis, well this location and I'm def going to continue to have service done at this location. Today 6/3/24 I went by and asked Andre to help me to remove the oil filter cap for me. I had already changed the oil and replaced the oil but I could t get the cap off for the oil filter... Andre had one of the mechanics show me the tool I needed. I was prepared to take it off myself but the mechanic insisted on just doing it for me. So he took the top off let me know the size of the socket wrench I needed and gave me a few pointers as well. I'm sorry I didn't get his name but thank you if you see this! Thank you Andre! I had a 9 am appointment for them to look at my muffler system-I arrived at 8:34. The gentleman took my keys-I asked about how long it would be-he jokingly said about 6 hours/then said probably 3 hours. At 10:34, my car had still not been brought in yet. I asked the manager how much longer before they bring it in. He informed me that even though I had an appointment, they don't really look at exhaust systems- "we do, but we don't". What the heck does that mean. I then asked why they didn't just tell me that when I dropped the car off. He pit his hands in the air. I asked for my keys, the manager told me to "Have a nice day", and I left at 10:50. I immediately went to Monro muffler and they had my car on the lift within 5 minutes. Diagnosed after 10 minutes. Do not go to Mavis in Vails Gate New York!! I've had good and bad experiences there, but this is the end! read more

My wife and I went to Mavis in New Windsor, NY today to purchase a tire and have it mounted on a new rim for my wife's 2021 Toyota RAV/4. After mounting, the new rim had access glue smeared on almost half of the rim. The rim was purchased brand new, still in the box when we went to Mavis. We asked for someone to clean the rim and one of the managers came over and started giving us attitude. He sprayed the wheel and attempted to clean the glue, which only some came off. He told us we had to clean the rim ourselves. We told him he has to clean the rim, as it was brand new when they worked on it while we waited. He insisted he wasn't going to clean it, saying he didn't want to scratch it. A mechanic attempted and could not clean the glue off. A second manager came over and said they will not clean it and said to call the corporate office. We told him they have to clean it, but they refused. The managers basically booted us out and told the mechanics to not do anything, and just left us standing there, like we were not even there. Before we left, another mechanic used a micro fiber cloth and was able to clean it. We couldn't get anyone's attention to settle the bill. The managers kept avoiding us. Eventually they figured out the bill was not paid and then they came to us. We also believe there were over charging of the tire monitor of over $80.00. We were also charged for discarding a used tire when there was no used tire to be discarded. Update: On 7/25/2023, the next day, Regional Manager Andre called concerned with my review of what happened yesterday at Mavis in New Windsor, NY. Andre said the action by the store managers is unacceptable and apologized for the way we were treated. Andre offered a full refund and said he will speak with the store managers in depth about how to treat customers. We appreciate the quick response from Andre and that he understood our concern. I wish I would have read these reviews for the Vails Gate location PRIOR to bringing my vehicle to them. Absolute WORST service and if I was able to give ZERO stars I would. Firstly, I went to purchase 4 brand new tires; spent over $1000 to leave there with my tire pressure light on and my rear tire registering 1 psi I was instructed to drive for a few miles and it would reset. Guess what??!! I drove a few miles and got a message reading, "tire pressure sensor fault"! I took the car back the next day (which I would've had to do anyway since, on the receipt, it states that the "lug nuts/bolts must be checked and retorqued immediately after the first 25 miles of use") and they removed all four tires and still had a difficult time placing the sensors! Then, after mounting the tires again, they failed to balance and do the wheel alignment! They are incompetent, dirty crooks! In addition, they left oil smeared on my center console and all on my window where they placed my inspection sticker! The WORST part of this visit is how they damaged/severely scratched ALL FOUR OF MY RIMS!!!!!!! I have a 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum that had ZERO damage to the rims prior to coming here! I am so angry!! I've contacted corporate and am waiting on a response. I will NEVER go back to this location and I strongly suggest you look elsewhere!! I urge you to take heed to the warnings of their previous customers; I wish I had seen the reviews prior to going to this Mavis Tire Shop! Had a 1pm inspection appointment. Got to the front desk at 12:55p. There's another woman standing there kinda exasperated expression...she takes a business card off the counter and says "I guess I'll just call." Not a good omen. No one at front desk and guys working on cars see me, but kept doing what they were doing. The mgr. came to the desk at 1:05p asking what I needed. I told him I had an inspection scheduled. At which he said I was late. I just looked at him..like is he joking? I told him it was for 1 and you all were in the shop part of the building. He was like...sarcastically..."well I need the key. " It was on the counter already. I pointed at it and said it's right here. I'm not sure if this was a poor attempt at humor on his part or he was having a bad day or he just didn't respect women. But this dudes personality was about as nice as a wet poopy diaper on a 95' summer day. He then asked if I was waiting. I asked if it would be long. He said it would take about 1/2 hr to get to it and it would take 1/2 hr -45 minutes for the inspection. I said I would wait. But, what's the point of having/making an appointment? So really my appointment was for "1ish" apparently.. I have to say that my husband and I always take our cars to Mavis in Walden and had excellent experiences and would have this time, but they didn't do inspections at that location. I would give this Mavis a zero star rate if I could. I made a appointment for 9:30am for a simple New York State inspection. It should have taken 10 minutes. At 10:20am, after two other vehicles came in after me and got in before me, I told the lady that I had to go to work by 10:30. Instead of explaining that they were backed up or any other excuse, she simply said, "Oh, well your vehicle won't be done any time soon". I'm not positive why I even had an appointment. New staff and management at Vails Gate. I recently had 4 tires replaced by Midas in Newburgh and a alignment. Long story short, i woke up to two of the tires being flat in the AM and the alignment was not able to be done in Newburgh. I took my car to Vails Gate due to the lack of confidence in Newburgh and they quickly resolved all the issues free of charge. Cory and Cory were awesome and I would come back again. This place really needs to be investigated by Dateline or by the Attorney General's Office. I stopped recently after boycotting it for several years. I stopped coming here in 2015 because the staff were continuously attempting to pull scams on me. I own several vehicles and I do almost all of my own mechanical work myself. I can't count how many times they've told me I needed my oil and different fluids changed, but I did them myself. They've routinely told me different parts were damaged when nothing was wrong (and I verified this with a real mechanic). I've sat and watched them use scare tactics on young women who drove their cars in, telling them they cannot "allow" the females to drive away unless Mavis repairs it first. One customer threatened to call the police and report the vehicle stolen, and then Mavis suddenly returned the unrepaired vehicle to her... but this was after a lengthy scene. Since it's been 3 years, I tried giving them another chance. I had a flat tire with lots of tread left, but it had a nail in the tread. I will NOT bring my car here, so I removed my tire and brought it to them using another vehicle. The mechanic told me the hole couldn't be repaired, but quickly offered to sell me a new tire. I immediately walked out, brought my tire to a real mechanic, and they repaired it. If Mavis cannot earn the trust of customers, how do they ever expect to keep customers coming back? read more
