Definitely doesn't appear to be much from the outside (or when you go in), but Mawa house has a great selection of small Indian bites and an excellent variety of Indian sweets to try. I stopped by here for lunch with my mom and brother earlier this week to grab lunch after a day out doing errands. We each got a coffee, my mother and brother got an order of the samosa chaat, and my brother and I got an order of the Chicken Kati roll. I also ordered a chicken puff... but more on that later. The food came out pretty sporadically - the first thing to come out was the samosa chaat which tasted very good. Next up were the Kati rolls. This was my first time having one and I was pleasantly surprised - it was effectively tandoori chicken with a masala sauce, wrapped in a Malabar parotta and served with chutney. This was a highlight for sure - the chicken was tasty and everything just worked. And lastly ..... we got our coffee? Personally, I was hoping that it would be given to us sooner but it is what it is. Now - back to the chicken puff. I had distinctly mentioned asking for a chicken puff when I originally ordered but it appears the employee who took our order completely forgot it. I ended up grabbing it to go (and it tasted good at home). Aside from the service issues I mentioned (bad pacing of meal, missing items, etc.), Mawa house does a great job with Indian food and snacks. I went to Mawa house after 2 years or so. Instead of ordering the Indian snacks, which I know they are bad at making, I ordered sweets. They said they have a baker now and sweets are made fresh in house. It was horrible. The Rosogollas were not in syrup, they tasted like canned sweets transferred into rosewater. This is a small hole in the wall joint in a strip mall. The space inside is quite large and we came in on a Saturday and it was quite empty. We yelped Indian street food and were a little worried based on the reviews however had a deep craving for panipuri. The service was good and the gentleman at the counter was sweet. Service was quite fast we had our food within 10 minutes. As for the food the pani puri was yummy having potato chickpea and all of the traditional things. The pani water was a little watery but the best thing was the papdi chat. Great textural differences with crunchy and soft and fresh ingredients. Overall we're happy we took a chance. read more

I would have loved to give them more stars but they have issues like all others. Folks working behind the counter please understand we as customers do not like to see uninterested sales folks. I understand you are bored or your phone amuses you over and over again hour after hour but when someone is out there waiting to be served that's not a right time, right? Also, being an Indian selling a few of the food type I expect you'll know what you are selling. Maybe a tip to the owner on training these folks/ atleast tell them what veggies are in the stuffing or if the chicken is fried or baked or grilled. That's basic. The person making the food (might be the owner : sad for him as it's a typical owners plight) had to come out to even answer basic questions. The chats are actually good. I was surprised that even their egg puffs are perfect(just how I had imagined them being one from any Bangalore side seller). The Kari roll was actually good esp the wrap felt like made in house fresh. Am yet to try the sweets( desserts) esp the Bengali ones (being a bong myself) as those were what I went there for. Major specialities here ( as per my personal experience) are : 1)chicken tikka roll(spicy chicken with onions, green pepper) wrapped in paratha (Indian tortilla). One has an option of going for a full roll(double) or half.This one can be quite filling and its not a bad idea to try a half roll. 2) Vada pav- potato based curry fried with dough and is sandwiched between Indian bread( pav). This is provided with sweet and spicy chutneys. 3) Veg puff & Egg puff-Savory pastries stuffed with vegetable curry and egg respectively. These taste great when made fresh. 4) Pav Bhaji- This snack is similar to vada Pav where the bread is the same. This comes with mixed vegetable curry made with loads of butter (bhaji). This item comes with onions, cilantro and sweet and savory chutneys. 5) Various flavors of Indian cakes/ pastries. The pineapple, mango, mixed fruit,black forest cakes are available per piece or a 1/2 pound or 1 pound cake are made to order. These items when made to order taste great. I was happy to hear that we have an Indian bakery in MA where we can find the usual Indian bakery snacks. So on my next visit to a friend's place, we drove some extra 15 miles to come here. I have never seen this place crowded, the ambience is very quite, and they have recently added a Indian cloth store inside the restaurant. I had expressed my feedback via mail to them, but did not receive any response, so here is a public declaration of that. We have been here a couple of times before this latest visit, and have got their pastries and snacks. The snacks were just ok we felt, but their pastries were good. This time, we went in on a Saturday evening to get some pastries. We got an assortment of four/five pastries. Both my son and wife fell severely sick after eating these. It was so severe that we had to go to the Emergency Room, to get treated for persistent vomiting. We suspect that the fruits they used on the pastries may have been tainted somehow. Been the a client of this place since it opened a few years back. The place used to be great for chaat and chai. However the quality of the food has dropped precipitously over the last year. This area missed a good place for Indian chaats and sweets until Mawa house came into existence. A group of friends and I went there on a Saturday evening and indulged ourselves. We had lots of chats: aloo tikki chat , samosa chat and dahi aloo chat. They were amazing. Do specify your spice level though. We tried the Pav Bhaji and chicken kati roll. They were good too. The best part of the place is the Indian sweets and pastries they offer. All the Indian sweets are about 9-11$ per pound , and they can give you a combination of sweets for how much quantity you need. We got some boxes of mawa cake , sandhesh and mawa burfi packed. We also picked up vegetarian puffs and stuffed buns for later. They have a cookie section too, and I was surprised to see ragi biscuits in their collection. This place is pretty average. I have had veg and paneer puff twice here and both the times they were not fresh, the puff coating also felt as if it was baked in daalda like thing.
