The dining room was clean and uncomplicated, with understated decor and an enchanting aroma of balanced spice. The menu here is a tome- while they're halal and vegetarian friendly, it's pretty clear they have all the meats halal allows... the usual chicken, beef, & lamb, but also mutton, goat, fish and shrimp. The first two pages are all different Mandi, or meat platters (there are vegetarian options), and then it goes on... soups, salads, classic entrees by ingredient and style. Then there's extras- biryanis, Indo-Chinese, and of course desserts. My coworker and I got a mixed grill and a chicken curry with garlic chili cheese naan and a cucumber salad. We asked for medium spicy. Everything was well prepared and expertly spiced, from a surprise sharp chili note balancing the sour tang of the yogurt in the cucumber salad, to the naan that had a welcome note of butter. The mixed grill was well prepared and the simple chicken curry was the surprise star... deep and rich, perfect over rice. The service was attentive, and it took a bit for the entrees- this isn't fast food. But the waiters and host were gracious and let us linger and finish our conversation past closing time, and let us try their rice pudding. All in all, this is the first Indian restaurant I've been to in a long time that didn't need to prop up their offering with a buffet- the entrees were compelling in their own right without having an array of choice. The bill was reasonable, and all in all we had a great time. I'll be back, and next time I'll try a mandi and ask them to dial up the heat on the curry, since they're fairly conservative with the spice levels. Judging from the well-mixed crowd in the place, they've probably got good reasons. Recommended!

The star of the show was easily the tandoori chicken - juicy, tender, and succulent - there stars for this. The rice was nice. I requested for mild spicy and it wasn't spicy at all which was great. However, the white sauce they have with it was actually over-whipped mayo which was a strange choice with this dish; wouldn't raita have been better? The brown sauce was also not appetizing. Flavor-wise, I would easily opt for a biryani vs this dish. Plus from a value for money perspective, mandi is easily more expensive even for a single portion. It feels like it's a big tray when you pick it up, but the layer of rice inside is pretty thin with only 3 pieces of chicken. Probably not worth a repeat visit unless I only want their tandoori chicken.

The place has been overwhelmed on grand opening week with crowds lining up to order and the seating all filled up. During the opening phase, this location offers a selection of Indian street foods, sandwiches, chaats, Bhakri pizzas, Indo Chinese dishes, South Indian entrees, milkshakes, fruit shots, and other special drinks. They will also be offering curries, tandoor, punjabi, palak, dal, and naan soon. After driving by last week, I saw the place was getting ready to open. I drove back to "Shrewsberry" and entered a very busy parking lot. I got lucky and found a parking spot 100 feet away. Many people were parking around the corner past Patel Brothers. Jay Bhavani was very busy upon entering, every table occupied. I took a few moments to decide what I was going to order reading the laminated menu pages. At the register, I ordered the Butter Vadapav ($4.99 plus tax) and Bhaji Pav ($13.99 plus tax). They would call my phone when my order is ready, which was 20 minutes later as I sat in my vehicle. I went back inside and got my bagged order to go. The Butter Vadapav had a crispy fried potato dumpling (soft texture) on a soft hamburger bun, packets of green chutney and vadapav sauce were provided. The sandwich was pretty standard. The Bhaji Pav is a popular street food, which was comprised of a container of mashed vegetables including peas, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes & butter. A side of chopped red onions, lemon, and two toasted hamburger buns were included. I also had some extra rice, which went well with the bhaji pav, which had a spicy flavor, but not too spicy. I'll plan another visit to Jay Bhavani soon as they are planning to open more locations in Chelmsford and Norwood.
