A good spot for South Indian cuisine that my friend's family brought us to! Upon entering, it was very bright and spacious with a small section to buy snacks and other goods. There are lots of seating, and they were moderately busy. We were given a tablet to look at the menu and place orders, but they do also just come by to take orders, which was the chosen option. They have a lot of dishes, and it took me awhile to decide what I wanted (they have a lychee paneer curry?!). Everything is vegetarian too! From what I've tried, everything was flavorful and delicious. This was my first time having a coconut chutney, and it was nice because the coconut really came through, but I preferred the other two chutneys with the dosa as well as the sambar. The mushroom pepper fries were very reminiscent to black pepper steak, but that's most likely because of the main seasoning being pepper. It was yummy, but it made me wish I got to try the chili version instead. If I were to come here alone, the mini tiffin gives enough variety and food to be filling, but I would rather get a thali unless I wanted something more homey. read more

We went to A2B with Indian friends who kind of filled in the understanding gaps as we went. There's an automated sign up system at the entrance to put you in the queue. Then they wait the tables like normal. Everything was quite fast and the food was fresh and hot. We were concerned that maybe we hadn't ordered enough until we saw the dosa bigger than my head! The sauces were nice, although when we asked for some mango achar they brought a tiny plastic portion unlike other restaurants we've been to. The service was excellent too. What a delicious lunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. We came early in the lunch hours and were seated right away. It got progressively crowded as time went on. Their menu is extensive and can take a while to review. We ordered the rasam vadai, mini tiffin, Rava masala Dosa, kothu parotta, banana flower vadai, two mango lassi, and one filter coffee. I don't know where to start but everything was yummy right from the dosas to the chutneys. The highlight were the super crispy and light medu vadai and the tomato and beetroot chutneys. Amazing. Having lived on the East Coast--mostly in central MA--for most of my life, I've been waiting a long time for a place that serves excellent South Indian food in Massachusetts... and it's finally here. A2B opened a location in Northborough a few months ago. I had been to a location in Bangalore several years ago while visiting India and thoroughly enjoyed it. So I was excited to hear they were (a) stateside and (b) in Massachusetts--close to home. My girlfriend and I have been visiting my parents this week, and we decided to stop by for dinner tonight. We made sure to arrive early--around 6 PM--to beat the crowd (which steadily grew as we ate). We were promptly seated, and our orders were taken. The restaurant is quite spacious, with plenty of seating for both small and large groups. For our meal, our table ordered: * Chole Bhatura * Karivepulla Dosa * Mini Thali * Thali * Poori Masala * Vada * Paneer 65 I kid you not, the food started arriving within minutes, piping hot--and all of it was SO good. Honestly, some of the best Indian food I've had at a restaurant outside of India and New Jersey. Service was impeccable--every staff member was attentive and kind. I can't stress enough how fast the service was. I only hope they maintain this standard going forward. I'd definitely recommend this place, and I'm excited to stop by again on my next trip home. read more

Been twice now and don't understand the hype. I think there are better South Indian restaurants nearby in northborough / Westborough that taste better, but I would like to give A2B one more try to change my mind. They do have a huge menu and stuff you don't always see at other places. I was disappointed in the flavor profiles of the dishes I had tho. I got a podi dosa which is usually my go to but this one was just fine from what I remember. I'd like to try it again fresh tho because I did get that as takeout. For dine-in I tried the Adai Aviyal which was described as a kerala dosa and I did not like it one bit. Could be how it's supposed to taste but just not for me. Idk if there was egg in there but it's not a dosa like I like, and the veg filling tasted off putting to me. I was hurt lol. I wanted to love it. The poori my aunt got with aloo was fine but nothing special imo. The pakora was a little bland to me and too small. Overall not impressed but I want to try the mushroom chettinad and some other dishes again. Recommend Peppers just down the street. read more

After hearing so much about A2B, I finally decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it turned out to be an underwhelming experience. The food at this all-vegetarian restaurant was pretty average--I've had better in the area. For appetizers, we ordered the Cauliflower 65 and Chilli Paneer Fries. The Cauliflower 65 was pretty good, but the paneer fries were alright (the seasoning was mid, nothing chili about it). For entrées, we tried the Paneer Tikka Dosa, Masala Dosa, and Garlic Dosai. I really liked the Paneer Tikka Dosa but the other two did not stand out. On the plus side, the portions were generous, and the service was impressively quick. But overall, I don't think this place lives up to the hype. read more

Brand new place in Northborough MA, this is a chain from India which I have had back in the late 90s. A lot of space but was extremely busy for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, had. 45 to 60 minute wait. You get to put your name on the list, you can track your position via a website. When your table is ready you get a table number, and you will have to show up at the table for you to get seated. Coming to the food very delicious South Indian vegetarian food. Service is quick, but they focus on getting the item to you on time, after that you don't see your waiter around as they are busy running around. Quantity of Chutney and side curries are very small and need to improve, otherwise you are waiting for them to bring extra as they take too much time for a refill or even forget. The place also offers Indian pickles and curry powders freshly made, for you to buy. Overall still a good quality and quick service for the food. We had pretty low expectations coming in because we had previously gone to an A2B in NJ that was not very good. But we were pleasantly surprised by this A2B! Food was made well and we didn't feel bloated/full like we usually do at Indian restaurants. Dosas made well. The chaat was pretty dry so that wasn't too great. Glad there is finally a good Indian restaurant in the greater Boston area. Would be great if they opened up more branches in MA as this one is pretty far out from Boston. I've eaten here twice. The first time everything was great, the service, the food etc. so my friend and I went back. Second time we ordered the same dishes as before but the waiter was horrible. From the second we sat down I felt like he was trying to get us in and out. He made a comment about not ordering much food and kept trying to take our dishes when we weren't finished. My friend and I were catching up and hadn't seen each other in a while and there were plenty of seats free so we didn't think we were preventing anyone from sitting. We paid our bill and left a tip but lingered still and had probably been there an hour and then another man came over and asked us to leave because people were waiting. We were shocked. I go out to eat all the time and have never had this happen. At least try to hide your rudeness. Maybe how is everything going? Again I counted the number of seats available on the way out and plenty to seat the people who had just arrived. Clearly this was about this one waiter. If you have to ask people to leave to accomadate a waiter why don't you give him other tables? Such horrible service. read more

This is hands down the best Indian restaurant in the area. The food, the service, the ambience is all top notch. Let's start with the food. Everything is awesome. I have tried the South Indian thali, the mini tiffin, the dosas, the idlis - especially the thatte idlis. The vegetable biryani, the mushroom curry are worth a special mention. I am a meat eater and I will gladly give up meat for a meal at this place. I could describe each and every dish here and make this into a whole chapter. I won't do that. Just try it for yourself. Most Indian restaurants are pathetic when it comes to service. A2B does this really well. Right from the wait listing process which is automated to when the waiter takes your order (they repeat the order and always get it right) to promptly asking if I need anything else and finally getting the check. All done well. Finally, the ambience is just perfect. The wall art reminds you of the villages in India the rich south Indian culture. Just takes you back home. Full house(popular) waiter came in around 5 minutes. Dosa came first, 3 min waiting time. Other than dosa, food is coming at mediocre pace, still waiting on everything else. Now the food has taken over 30 minutes. Sanitation: Minimum glass and plate staining, Utensils look scratched up but clean, small specs of imperfection. Since I am a critic, they let me see the cleaning process, the glasses are cleaned on this machine called the Noble products glass genie. It applies no pressure to The glasses, only cleaning big stains, probably why all the glasses had small stains and specs floatingin my water! This machine is effective, but they didn't use the hot soap water bath included in the machine. Food: Dosa is thin, very large, plate overbite. Sauce trays are clean and averagely separated. Ordered dip two refills, waiter forgot and brought one, played it off like he meant to, but lied. In the malai Cofta, there was only 2 coftas, and in the kadai paneer, there was only 1 paneer! If you don't know about these dishes, both of these dishes usually have 5-6 of each. This is outrageous. The hot garlic tofu bok Choy only had 2 tofu pieces. And the tofu dish was disgusting, it was this thick sludgy sauce with unflavored plain tofu. It wasn't spicy at all, in fact, it was a bitter sweet. I have come here before and the minimal amount of vegetables in curry's is a reoccurring issue. Drinks: Strawberry Milkshake is sweet, crispy, and creamy, very good but nothing special. Glass has minimum staining. The Cheeku Shake was the same but way too much added sugars. Clean up: Fast and efficient, no gloves, used a cleaning agent(spray) and cloth, seats not cleaned and poorly dried. Dust remains at and of table. Customer came 30 seconds after table cleaned Price: everything came up to 163.87 which wasn't much, but almost all of it was terrible. And when I calculated it all, there was 30 dollars paid on something I didn't even order! I took the money off and left. 3/10 do not recommend. Bad service for bad food. You reserved the table at the door and was supposed to get a message. There is no table numbers. So after getting the message you don't know where to go to find your table. The managers were rude and said they assigned the table to someone else. They claim they called but never received the call. The whole reservation system was very confusing and inefficient. Also, we ordered South Indian thali with other dishes and other dishes (starters, Main course, deserts) came before they served South Indian Thali. Only after asking multiple times they informed Thali was getting late. So we had to watch others in the table eat their food and than others need to wait till we finish Thali to end the dinner. When we ask for something to get order we want THAT EXACT THING and this waiter pressured into getting something more expensive when we said "No thank you" a bunch of times.
