Max and Emilys has good food. I enjoyed the dumpling soup and chocolate chip cookie. I ordered the usual which is a BBQ brisket. The BBQ sauce was very good but the brisket at least for me was very fatty. I don't recommend it for someone who is bothered by fat. However the service is decent and the waiting time isn't that long. When it comes to sandwiches, I love lots of spice and lots of sauce! My sandwich, the Saucy Cowboy, was definitely saucy, with just the right amount of spice and sweet combined! I love Applewood smoked bacon and they were not stingy with it! The ambience was wonderful, with Christmas music lightly playing overhead, not too loud to where you could still talk and hear each other, but they kept us in the Christmas spirit! They have these really awesome lamp posts decorated with garland and brick walls that give the place a unique character! I will definitely be back! read more

A great sandwich shop in a cute little downtown. Atmosphere beats the Jimmy John's next door any day. Lots of sandwich and salad choices on the menu- all of which sounded really delicious, and many vegetation options. Daily soup specials looked really good. I had a fresh mozzarella, tomato, and pesto grilled panini, which came exactly as I ordered- with a pickle and chips. Only complaint is they could explore some more interesting bread. Heard the owners are really involved in bringing performers an other cool stuff to the downtown, I added a star for that. read more

It is in a perfect location for all the students that live near by and want to have a great sandwich, burger, or salad for a decent price. We decided to check it out because we got a free $25 gift certificate from restaurant.com and I'm glad we did. This place reminds me of a place back home called Willie's Bagels. It has a "home" type feeling where its really welcoming. The owner was really nice as well. He kept playing around with my son telling him to get a cookie. He's only 9 months. lol. There is an insane amount of different sandwiches to choose from. Feeling like something spicy - get the inferno sandwich. Want something more meaty and italian? Get the pesto burger. There is something for everyone. There is also specialty drinks whether its fancy coffee or something cold. Stopped by for a wrap for my daughter and soup for me. Loved their homemade chicken and dumpling soup! Seems like over 50 sandwich choices made from fresh ingredients. My daughter had a chicken quesadilla wrap and I had a bite. Quite good. It was hard to walk by the bakery and dessert case without ordering one and I wish we were in town a little longer and I would have come in for breakfast. Some really fun coffee drinks available too! What does one do, when they are vegan, live in Oregon, are attending a wedding in Cedar Lake, MI and responsible for planning and organizing the wedding rehearsal dinner? Call Max & Emily's! Since the wedding affair was low key and informal, I decided to do sub sandwiches, salad, chips and dessert for 50 people, for the rehearsal dinner. After calling a few franchise sandwich shops in Mt. Pleasant and discovering they have no vegan options and will make no accommodations for vegan foods, I decided to find a locally owned sandwich/deli shop. My google search landed on Max & Emily's website. A quick phone call to them discovered they have no vegan options either. However, the difference between them and a franchise business is they were ready to solve my problems. Once I provided them with links to producers of vegan meats and cheeses, they were totally open to providing the catering for my group of 50 people. They did an OUTSTANDING job! Everything they provided was vegan....the breads, the wraps, the condiments, the salad dressings and the delicious cookies. It received glowing compliments from all my vegan guests as well as non-vegan guests. I am truly indebted to them for their personal customer service as well as the delicious food that made my event so successful. However, I'm especially grateful to Elmo for his willingness, attention and desire to accommodate my wishes. Absolutely loved loved loved it. My wife is a vegetarian and I am most definitely not so finding somewhere to satisfy us both is always a challenge. The crew at Max & Emily's crushed it. I had the Holton which is a spin on the French Dip. It rocked. My ever picky wife had the Black Bean Fiesta and I haven't seen her as excited since the birth of our children. The cafe'-like restaurant offers an extensive menu for a great price. My favorite dish would be the B.O.B....also know as the breakfast on a bagel. And for $5.95 it's a great deal that fills your stomach, and also keeps your pockets filled as well. They are mostly known for their homemade cheesecake. Came in with extremely high hopes for this place, and left disappointed. My girlfriend and I ordered the special of the day, two soups, and two drinks. Which came out to roughly $30. The soup was very good, and so was the sourdough bread bowl that it came in. The special, however, was a different story. Our sandwiches came out in tortilla wraps, even though the special said grilled sourdough bread. We sent them back and was told the special was written wrong. So I asked to have what was on the special board then, because that is what we wanted. The sandwiches we got back had the wrong meats and cheeses, and were on toasted white instead of the sourdough I specifically requested. Basically I paid $30 for two soups and a sandwich that I could have made at home with the food in my fridge. Probably won't be back here again. Edit: as we were leaving we took our plates up to the counter. On both of our plates there was old food on the bottom of them. Talk about disgusting. Definitely will not be back here again. Went here on a Sunday morning for a quick breakfast, super concerned that we would hit the students coming in. We had nothing to worry about; very efficient front counter with paper menus and lots of chalk boards to tell you what they offer. I had a breakfast tortilla and my husband had scrambled eggs. Service was pleasant and fast, my food was delicious as were my husband's eggs. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars, is my husband asked for over easy eggs and they said their license required them to break the yolks on the eggs. I am not sure what that is or why that is; but it does not make a lot of sense to me. To start, it is very hard to order if you are a newbie. They have chalkboards literally everywhere that are full and they are all along the wall right behind the register so it was impossible to read them with the line they had because the line of people covers the menu. I finally was able to make my way to the register to find a paper menu to then take to my seat to find what I would like to order. It would be helpful if they were by the door. The space is very small and it was a constant traffic jam by the register where you order but also because the drink station is directly next to it. The layout is not ideal for the busy crowd they seem to cater to. While you do have to order up front and you get your own drinks and condiments, a server will call your name and bring the food to the table for you when it is ready. I ordered the California Girl and a cup of Chicken Dumpling Soup (no drink) and yes, it was very good. I was shocked that I paid $13.71 for it though and while eating I found a hard time justifying why it was so much. I enjoyed my meal inside but they do have outdoor seating also. I am not quite sure if I will return based on the price vs. portion ratio but I definitely did enjoy my lunch here. read more

One of the best places to eat in Mount Pleasant. Food is always top quality and they really work with my fiancé and I, since she has celiac disease. It can be a little bit slow at time, but the atmosphere is cozy, and laid back so it's never really a problem. You can get it with a salad, soup or bread bowl which is a good deal under $10. I chose salad. I should have asked if it was whole wheat wrap - i paid for it next day. It is bang in the downtown mt pleasant and has that good neighborhood feel that i like. Reminded me a bit of obryonville. read more

I love the kazillion sandwich choices -- always fun perusing their huge chalkboard menus. (The California Girl, with turkey and avocado, is one of my favorites.) Their soups are good too, as are their cheesecakes. The coffee and coffee drinks are good. The dining area is comfortable -- a nice place for a quiet lunch by oneself or with a friend. (Be warned, though, that during CMU's lunch hour this place is packed.) My only negatives about this cafe' are my missing their former baked potato menu, and my wishing that they had a couple more vegetarian sandwich choices. read more

We had a lete lunch here because of the positive reviews. Nice setting with a good size crowd in the place. My wife had the French dip which she said was very good. I had a Ruben which had cold meat and was served 10 minutes after my wife got her's. That's the reason for the 2 star rating. read more
