Finally tried this spot near my home after driving past several times. I'm not that familiar with Filipino baked goods but love the popular Ube flavor. I was nicely welcomed in this cute tiny shop, and I told her I wanted to start by trying the local's favorites since I wasn't familiar. So, I Tried the ube yema , ferrero chocolate, and Food for the Gods. They were all delicious! I love the sweetness of Ube along with the saltiness of the cheese grated on top of the cupcake/muffin. What a fun combo! Can't go wrong with the chocolate cupcake with a ferrero candy inside. They were so soft and fresh tasting as well. But I LOVED the Food for the Gods, perfectly dense and chewy with chocolate, walnuts and dates, and again you can taste the freshness. Love Max & Lucy's! We discovered them through our cousins whose family will bring some assorted enseymadas up for all their parties and events. I really like the classic and the ferrero rocher ones, especially when microwaved for a few seconds. Now we try to stop by if ever we're in the area and recently we tried their silvanas which are new to their menu. the silvanas were delicious! not too sweet, which made it dangerously easy to eat a lot in one sitting. they also provided a little insulated bag with the silvanas to keep them cool in transit which was great. it's a very small shop, no room to sit and enjoy your treats but just right for ordering some goodies to go. and of course, love that Max and Lucy are their doggies names and their pictures are painted on the wall! read more

I was in the SFV and on my way for lunch to meet up with some friends and wanted to surprise them with some tasty treats. I'm not as familiar with SFV since I rarely travel in this part of town. So, a quick Yelp search and noticed ube and ensaymada at Max & Lucy's. This quaint and small shop was a bit empty inside with limited inventory. Not sure if they were wiped out or made most of their items on an order bases. Anyways, this place reminds me of Goldilocks Bakery back in the day that bakes up transitional Filipino breads and desserts. Max & Lucy's is a bit more of a modern bake shop. Without much inventory to look at, I ordered a 4 pack of ube ensaymada. So after brunch at Brent's Deli not too far away, I gifted my friends from San Diego the ube ensaymada. While on their way down south, I got a call saying it's the best ensaymada they've had. Ensaymada is a bit half the size I'm used to but very good. It's a buttery dense brioche with an ube frosting and sprinkled with a cheddar cheese. If you like sweet, savory, buttery, this is your thing. Not sure if I'd be back unless I'm in this part of town, but overall this bake shop has some good quality baked goods to try. read more

Got this from a friend and have mixed reviews for each one. The ensymada itself is great. Tried the ube yema, ferrero chocolate, Parmesan, and queso de bola (not pictured). Definitely should warm these up before eating. The ube yema was good and well balanced sweetness and saltiness. My niece enjoyed it. Bread is good, cheese ensaymada is very good also, moist, not overpowering cheese, sweetness is perfect, I feel like I went back home to the Philippines. As far as customer service, ahhhhh not to great for Filipina, the lady was a little bit grumpy, but of course who knows if she is having a bad day at the time I visited their store. read more

We're in Northridge visiting my brother and he recommended this place. I'm reviewing this based on the service that was provided to us. I was taking pictures for my Yelp reviews and the lady serving us commented on why I was taking pictures. The comment was arrogant and didn't sound welcome. I have to mention that I was a Yelp Elite and wanted to review this business. She again mentioned not to take any pictures of their operations or kitchen. I have posted the pictures I've taken. Tried this place based on my friends recommendation. The ensaymadas are like half the size of a regular ensaymada but they are delish. MAX & LUCY'S is located in a center on tue northwest corner of Sepulveda and Lassen. The free parking behind the buildings is ample and mostly empty when we were there. Walk around street-side to enter the shop. The shop is small and has no indoor nor outdoor seating. This poses no problem as this shop sells packaged desserts for you to take "to go". Got the box of ENSAYMADA in various flavors. 3 counts per flavor; 4 flavors in one box (of a dozen). For those who don't know what an ensaymada is, it's a brioche bun smothered in softened butter sprinkled with sugar. So that's the "classic" flavor. The cheese flavor would have shredded cheese on top of this. The other two flavors were UBE, which has ube halaya (jam) on top, and FERRERO ROCHER which had a whole Ferrero Rocher chocolate ball right in the middle of the bun. The brioche bun was a great fluffy and yummy foundation for the different flavors. Also got a piece of their UNE CHEESECAKE. It's a single serving of a cheesecake, which in itself was amazing, with ube jam on top. The graham crust on that cheesecake was awesome, I could still feel the grains of sugar in it. The cheesecake itself tasted great. There was only one group in front of us when we entered and we were served in no time at all. read more

Their ube cheese pandesal is my fave, but unfortunately, it seems as though it's only available on the weekends. Their 8 pc regular pandesal is $3! Such a steal. I haven't had ensaymadas nor food for the gods before but they were also good. I'm partial to ube so I liked their ube ensaymada the best. Food for the gods would go well with coffee. My order was a combination of strawberry, blueberry and ube. A lot of my guests loved the ube flavor but I personally liked the blueberry one. I was very excited to find new Filipino bakeries in town. I love their "food for the gods", an indulgence you'll never regret. Little squares of chewy and soft, balanced sweet and salty with tasty buttery finish. You can't stop once you started. Ingredients taste fresh and it leaves you craving for more! The "ensaymada" (brioche) is airy and cloud pilowy soft of yumminess! I can eat a lot of these babies in one sitting! My favorite?
