Okay, it's summer so I have to relish what this season has to offer, despite the grueling heat and occasional meet-ups from friends, families and colleagues. So, we decided to drop by D' New Aristocrat, a Filipino bakery who specializes in desserts, treats and other things. I tried the "turn" a banana wrapped in with rolls and deep fried in a hot oil. The turon was glazed with sugar, and I tasted the jackfruit with the banana. Oh wow, this cacophony of tastes and crunchiness that transform the easy you look at snacks and desserts. At 4 PM, I was tempted to ate 5 of these delightful desserts but then I saw another stout looking small wallet in flour, the "banana empanada chicken" and oh G...this was an wholesome delight of sorts, taking me back to my grandmother's mini-empanaditas way back when I was 5 years old. She would marinade chicken, pork or beef and mixed it with onions, flour, and all sorts of condiments and baked it to wholesomeness. Let's take it back, while I ah e to go back to work, I bought three (3) dozen for my staff, a dozen for me and three dozen turon too! We all ended up having dinner together and enjoyed the turon as dessert. The Filipinos in the area all know about them so few bother to even review. Their turon is perfect. No qualifiers. Each one is deep golden, sticky, glossy, and crunchy all at once. And the banana always has just the right balance of sweet, tart, and toothsome. The empanadas are also good. They only make shredded chicken filling and there aren't chunks of other things inside which I kind of miss. On the other hand, they are filled really well so you never get air pockets. If you are a fan of Filipino turon, than odds are you already know this is the best by far! By far!!! If you are new to turon, then here's a quick lesson: ripe saba (Filipino banana) and lanka (jack fruit) wrapped in a thin egg roll rice paper that is fried and coated with sugar. Easier said than done, this place has MASTERED the art of keeping the wrapper light and CRISPY up to several days, where others fail in matters of hours. Also, they have an even coat of sugar as opposed to others that are lumpy and uneven. The size of their turon is also consistently the same. Cooked to golden brown perfection with no burn marks. As for the price, the best anywhere in town at $0.85 per turon and it gets cheaper with quantity. Most places are at $1 or even more, and simply not up to the same standard. If i have to nit pick to find ways they can improve the customer experience, then I would say make more more more available. If you show up close to lunchtime, they are sold out each and every time. Their stuff is that good!!! "Make more and customers will come."
