This place is freaking HUGE and has SO MUCH EQUIPMENT. They have plenty of treadmills in multiple locations (you're nervous about being in the open? No problem they have some in a back room), but I'm more into weights - I love that they have every type of weight to choose from, plenty of racks, AND they have so many individual pieces of equipment. Sometimes free weights/racks make me nervous, so having individual machines is freaking awesome and the ease of use is so much better. They have multiple spaces, including a back room that is pretty secluded which is perfect for new people/for stretching. They also have balls, steps, small weights, etc back there. They truly are an all encompassing gym. My only complaint (some people don't care about this) - it is very overwhelming for women AND for those of us that aren't SUPER fit. I will not come in here without my fiancé because I'm too nervous haha! It's....a lot. There's a lot of really fit people and coming from a small planet fitness, this is a lot to take in. However, there are a few things that push me toward switching to somewhere new. -Cleanliness. It just isn't very clean. I see staff cleaning regularly but they seem to focus on the floors. Which is great, but the machines need cleaned as well. There are paper towel dispensers a few places around the gym but they are pretty inconvenient to walk to depending on what you are using. They also produce the smallest, thinnest paper towel so that you really need 3-4 to properly clean with them. I would say about 50% of the time they are out paper towels. And the locker rooms are absolutely disgusting (at least the women's is). Everything from the benches to the stalls and showers needs deep cleaned. There is only 1 soap dispenser that works properly so for months it was the only one shared between 4 sinks. They did begin buying small soap pumps, thank goodness. The showers are straight up nasty, with broken pieces of wall laying around them. Toilets don't all flush properly so usually at least 2/4 of them are clogged or filled. Hand sanitizer on the floor is straight liquid, makes a big mess. -COVID precautions. They are not enforcing masks or social distancing. It is really tough around peak gym times. It gets super crowded, as all gyms do at this time, but is not safe when patrons are not wearing masks or cleaning the equipment.

(I have been to a lot of sub optimal gyms where I wouldn't feel comfortable hitting a respectable bench there.) Lift STL certainly met my needs. They had many racks & locations to bench press -- no waiting on the sole bench press. They had top notch Sorinex equipment throughout. A wide variety of barbells to meet any specific needs -- including one Strongman log, DBs up to 120#, about all the machines you could need, and lots of turf for conditioning drills. If you need it, they likely have it. Personnel were kind and welcoming & put up with my occasional #OldManNoise while lifting. Facility was clean, easy to get to, & lots of nearby parking.

Members spend enough time working out without having to tour the entire gym looking for equipment that was left somewhere else. When I mentioned that the equipment should be put back where it came from, Sharon's professional response was to tell me to "mind your own business" and that "it doesn't matter" where the equipment is returned. Interesting philosophy. I wonder if LifeTime feels that way, too. You can almost understand when an occasional member leaves equipment lying around. But when it's an employee--someone who's literally being paid to teach good habits--it's a masterclass in hypocrisy. Maybe the next training package should include a session called "How to Return Equipment 101." It's a short class: pick it up, walk it back, and put it where you found it. For a club that markets itself as a luxury fitness experience, I'd expect trainers to set the example--not encourage members to lower their standards. Apparently, "mind your own business" is now considered customer service.

If you've never tried body pump before but want to, Michael B is the best instructor when it come to new folks. Go to any of his classes and learn everything you need to in order to get strong and stay safe. This location also has super new machines as it recently opened last year, so everything feels super fresh. Also, I love that they have a gender neutral restroom/ locker room. I will say this location isn't super family oriented like I've noticed other locations are, but that seems more fitting for downtown as the crowd seems more transient and younger. I've also had generally great experiences with the folks who work at the front desk. Very inclusive, accommodating, and friendly. It's my spot! The only downside is parking downtown can be a drag.

Reasons why I love the workout: 1. Treadmills / running are incorporated! I love to run but I hate when I have to chose either weights or running. I love Shred because it keeps both! 2. Minimal thought/ experience required. You don't have to wait for equipment or think about what your next set is going to consist of because they tell you what to do the entire time! Also, if you don't know how to do something- it doesn't matter- because your instructor shows you each move before they expect you to do it. Reason why I love this location specifically: The Instructors & Staff are just the best! I truly feel like I have made some great friends here and that all of the people in this location genuinely care about you. It's so nice that I can pick my classes to go with my favorite instructors or I can take one with someone that's not in my regular "schedule" and I still get the same amazing workout and attention.
