I asked for an estimate to install a GFCI outlet and they gave me a quote of $250-$500. I reiterated that I was asking for an estimate, not for work when they asked for my availability to meet. I confirmed the day/time and when I asked for them to confirm it was for an estimate, not the work, they said they wanted to come onsite to complete the work. I figured maybe it was just a miscommunication... However, when I reiterated to them I only wanted an estimate they then asked for pictures and what was near and behind the toilet. I didn't follow up as it seemed sketchy that they were unwilling to send someone onsite or at least do a video call to give me a more accurate estimate and some idea of what the work would entail similar to what other electricians have offered when collecting estimates. read more

We needed an electrical retrofit to be completed in part of our home as well as updating the circuits in our kitchen. Max Electric (we dealt mostly with Andrii) did a great job quickly updating our wiring (we unfortunately have plaster...so lots of holes and mess) and also made some nice suggestions (such as: considering an outdoor outlet and a heated towel rod). They also pointed out and made corrections to some work done from other electricians (many thanks)! They had to take down all of our light fixtures during the retrofit, and in retrospect I should have cleaned everything before they got put back up again (as everything was covered in dust)...just assume that you should move everything you can to make the job go more smoothly. I was nervous about the cost and process to get a Tesla wall charger installed but Max answered all my questions and made this whole process super easy! You'll say it shouldn't cost $150 for a specialist to flip a wall switch, but you know that's how the world works. I called them about an outlet that had stopped working, forgetting that a wall switch controlled it. (The switch is supposed to be always on; I'd forgotten that it existed.) So the electrician came out with his tool box, promptly saw and flipped the switch, and charged me $30 less than their advertised minimum. My living room LED light started flickering, so I decided to get a brand new ceiling fan with light to replace (I also had a kitchen light changed to a new ceiling fan). Max gave me a free estimate and scheduled an appointment a day after. I live in Oakland, but Max came on time all the way from San Francisco. Max was very professional and focused. He brought heavy duty "boxes" for the ceiling fans so that the ceiling fans could be installed correctly and securely. These ceiling fans are operated by remotes (lights are also turned on/off by switch - I asked Max to install that way, too), so he set up the two remotes one for living room and another for the kitchen separately so that each remote won't get confused which fan to operate (it could turn on one and turn off another at the same time if the remotes were not separately set up). Max also hooked up the remote holder on the wall, replaced a new switch for the living room ceiling fan, changed the reverse switch to the correct switch for the kitchen fan (they previous home owner had it reversed way) without charging me extra, cleaned up the working area, took all the trash including the ceiling fans' empty boxes. Max is very knowledgeable and reliable. I will be calling him for all future electric work for my house. If you need any help for electric work, Max Electric is the place you want to call 100%. Max Electric responded to a project I had sent out to install a 50amp ChargePoint EV charger. They were very responsive via Yelp to my questions. I sent them photos of my panel and where I wanted to set up the charger per their request, and they quoted me $650-850. I had some concerns about all this since I had another business try to upsell upsell upsell and quoted me $12k!!! Max Electric very quickly confirmed my suspicions that I was getting squeezed by the other company, and they reassured me that my panel would be able to take the added stress of the charger (after giving them information about my house, appliance make up - gas vs electric, daily habits etc, all details that the other company didn't bother asking). They scheduled me within a couple weeks (they offered an earlier appointment but we couldn't make it work with our schedules, and I didn't have the charger yet in my possession). The electrician who came out was professional and timely (Andrei). My husband did mention that there was a bit of a language issue with the installation instructions (the electrician spoke a Slavic language we think?). The installer was supposed to download the ChargePoint app as part of the installation, but there was some misunderstanding there that was a source of frustration for 10 minutes or so. Ultimately, it was frustrating (for my husband) but at the end of it all, the charger was installed where we wanted, works perfectly, and they charged us $650, the low end of the range they quoted!
