America was my lovely stylist, which she actually helped me almost 2 years ago, so funny how that lined up. I found Brii on Instagram after seeing a photo of a cut that looked like it was made for the model. I went to her profile assuming that she would have a whole bunch of cuts that looked exactly like the one I saw - but instead, every single cut looked like it was made just for the person wearing it.  So, despite my discomfort with going to a salon, I booked.  I went in mentally prepared for a TYPICAL salon experience...  To walk in and be greeted by smile-less gazes from stylists that have been holding their arms up for too long Loud, busy Share a few inspo pics, answer 0-3 questions, hard to think/speak over hair dryers get a cookie cutter interpretation of the pictures I showed Pay with a smile, cry in car. Max Hair Salon is the best! I love coming here for the great atmosphere, super nice team, and adorable salon space. The new stations are crazy cute, and make the salon look way cooler than any other one I've been to. Alanna does such beautiful work, and I love coming to see her. Terrible Organization and Communication. I called 10 days ago to set up an appointment. They gave me the time 8am, which is early for me but I've never been here before so I agreed because I need a haircut and I wanted to try this salon based on the reviews. I came in, and the woman who was there was nice but seemed as confused as I was; the stylist that I was set up with was not there. About 32 minutes go by, and since the stylist cannot be reached, I am asked if I want to reschedule. I decline; I had already wasted time this morning getting ready, driving and waiting around, and 10 days have passed of me waiting for this appointment. I cannot comment on the skill levels of the stylist since I was unable to receive any services. I have finally found my forever salon! I have lived in North County for 10 years and got my hair cut maybe once a year because I could never find someone that really understood what I wanted or took the time to make sure I was happy. My roommate referred me to Elena about 8 months ago and I have been SO happy since finding her and Max Hair Salon. I am naturally a very dark brunette and we have been working to get me to a silvery blonde. I love that Elena asks questions to make sure she understands what look I want to end up with, but she also makes sure that she keeps my hair healthy in the process. Elena is so friendly and gives the best scalp massages :) I'm super picky when it comes to my hair and I can't recommend Elena enough!! You won't regret seeing her. I've been going to max salon for years and the ownership changed in 2017. It is still a salon with talented hair artists who perform beautiful work. However, I have overheard on numerous visits, staff members bad mouthing other customers and even other stylists! It makes for a very uncomfortable experience. Am I going to be next? This used to be a wonderful salon. I've gone for years. Alas, ownership changed awhile back, and the place deteriorated into sort of a Mean Girls ambience. The owner and her little cadre of favorites gossip about clients - and I kid you not, when I called them on it once ,there was no remorse or shame! They gossip about other stylists, too. Their comments after a customer leaves are snippy and sometimes dissainful. The lack of integrity is just part of the unprofessionalism that makes this a place to stay away from now. When I think about the insulting comments I have overheard, or the sneers conceiled behind peoples' backs, I feel kind of queasy. There are other, better places run by people who value clints and don't see them as sources of gossip and money. read more

This place is FANTASTIC! I highly recommend this hair salon to anyone! Hospitality: every stylist was so kind and warm to me, even though I wasn't their client! The overall atmosphere of the salon is a friendly one, everyone belongs and is welcomed! Pia, the owner of the store, met with me in person to welcome me to the salon! They even had water available for clients! TALENT: each of the stylists I saw did an amazing job with their clients' hair! And I have to give a HUGE shout out to Alanna, who did my hair! A balayage rose gold! Alanna was absolutely thoughtful and communicative. We discussed everything before any moves were made. The cut, where the color would start and what color it would fade in to- you name it! Alanna makes sure she knows YOUR vision so that she can make it come to life! ^_^ she is incredible talented on all fronts, but what stands out to me about Alanna is her creativity and work with coloring hair. She is marvelous with "fantasy" color styles (rose gold, sea, blues, coppers, rainbow) you name it and she can do it! Time: my hair is dark, so I knew it would take a while to do my hair, and Alanna was SO intentional with having me be her only client for the day! We spent the entire Saturday morning together enjoying ourselves, our conversation, and not feeling rushed at all! This is a charming boutique salon. The stylists r the friendliest, genuine and most talented. Ive been going here for 2 years. The previous owner was nice but the salon has evolved since the new owner took over. The vibe is friendly and fresh and it looks super cool with the recent upgrades. Alanna is my fave but i would trust all of the stylists. I read thru a couple negative recent posts and i don't get it. Its like they r talking about another salon or are being completely dishonest with a hidden agenda. I cant recommend this salon more and I especially love Alanna's head massages!! read more
