I met with her and I shared my frustrations and communicated what I wanted. Kara was honest and told me what she could do to correct what the previous stylist had done to my hair. I loved her honesty and I decided to make the switch. I know it's going to take some time to get my hair to where I want it to be but I do know that I'm in good hands. This salon is everything I could ever want in a salon. It's small meaning they provide very intimate appointments where I feel like I'm having my friend do my hair. I went in just getting a simple trim but Deanna magically transformed my hair. I don't know how she did it but I don't think I ever loved looking at my hair this much till I sat in her chair. I've been going to Kara for about a year now and wow! My hair has never looked so full or so healthy. She prefers to do more natural hair colors and is definitely not scissor happy like all my previous hairstylists. I have fine, thin hair and Kara recommended instead of layers which I've had my whole life, a blunt cut across the bottom to create to look of full hair. And wow did it work. I've gotten highlights from her and she's helped even out all the odd colors I was getting from my previous hairstylist and now it looks natural and great! She sells shampoo and conditioner, the brand I've fallen in love with is Framesi. It makes my hair silky and shiny and it's reasonably priced. The salon she's in is rather unique, the owner sell paintings of a bunch of random things. The salon is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Carlsbad, and walking distance to the beach. There's free parking across the street also. All in all, I highly recommend Kara to anyone that wants great looking hair! Kara is ABSOLUTELY wonderful! My hairstylist is moving out of state, so I searched the area for someone in my price range, but still great. :-). I am so glad I found Kara! I booked appointments for my mom and myself, and we had not had our done for a very long time. Lots of growth to cover!! Kara took so much time with us asking what colors we wanted and what cuts we would like. My mom's hair came out beautiful. The gray was covered and it still looked totally natural. I was not sure what exactly I wanted, and Kara asked questions to help guide my decision. She explained the pros and cons of the colors I was contemplating, and was very patient and really listened to what I wanted! She even took the time to ask me what the long term goals were for my hair, as that would influence what type of color I should get. I have an infant daughter and had pretty much figured a style that was cute was out of the cards as I have it up most of the time. Kara styled my hair so cute, but still practical for having a new little one that likes to grab it. Kara was also as excited as I was to see how the color came out. I had made the mistake a year or so ago to dye my hair black. So, the color before I went to see her was this awful ash- orange shade. I left with a beautiful shade of blonde! Better than I thought it would turn out, and she is priced at a point I can actually afford to keep up with the coloring. :-) I actually signed up for Yelp specifically to rate her because I am so happy with the result. The search is over I have finally found a hair salon I can count on and come to here in North County. I live in Northern California. I have been desperately trying to find a good stylist in N. Ca for several years. I found Kara while visiting family in S. Ca and decided make an appointment based on her Yelp reviews. Wow I am so glad I did, Kara spent a while looking at my hair and asking me what I did and did not want. She made several suggestions and explained the why behind those. I have extremely thick hair. Kara had to do alot of color correction. I found it interesting that she would put the color in section by section and washed the color out section by section so as not to over process any portion of my hair. She didn't cut alot off, just cleaned it up and gave it a better shape. The end result, WOW!!!! My new hair has taken at least 10 if not 15 years off my appearance. Kara is amazing!! I came to her after reading all these great yelp reviews, and she is even better than I had dared to hope. I came to her with my hair messed up from a new stylist at my old salon, no fault of anyone's, but man, it was bad: brassy from a bad highlight job, then fully covered up with a Big all-over color of dark, quickly washed-out toner to "fix" it, and growing out I gracefully from those insults. I had resigned myself to a year or two of awkward color, but Kara fixed my hair to its former glory in one visit, and has a long-term plan to keep it healthy and improving along down the road. I love that Kara understands that beautiful hair is a part of someone's confidence out in the world - she makes it feel so noble to want great hair, not shallow or vain. She also respects the desire to have natural looking hair, as just as legitimate a choice as wanting unicorn rainbow colors; other stylists sometimes made me feel like doing my hair was boring or something, but Kara celebrates her clients' wishes to simply look like the most awesome version of their natural selves. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE KARA!! I don't normally write reviews, but Kara deserves her 5 star rating! This was my 3rd cut/color with Kara and once again she did a great job. She really listens to what you want and will let you know truthfully if it will work with your hair type or not, and not just cut your hair looking at a picture, charge you something crazy and have you leaving disappointed because your hair doesn't look anything like you asked. She uses very gentle and safe colors that won't burn and ruin your hair. Besides the great cut and color job, SHE DOESN'T EVER OVER BOOK HER APPOINTMENTS! She books appointments with only 1 client at a time and she gives herself enough time to get the job done, but because she doesn't over book, she is able to get it done in a timely manner. I found Kara on Yelp, and it was her great reviews that brought me to her to begin with and I am extremely happy to have found her! Kara is super sweet and honest - and she's not scissor happy!! She even told me to please not tell her I wanted to cut all my hair off because I had beautiful hair. She listened to what I wanted and we all know that is rare.
