Initially what started the summer…read morebefore, with a call about a noisy neighbour's a/c and what could be done to help dampen the sound, continued that positive experience into a great one to follow. Who wants to be without heat in the winters that we seem to have here, but kerplunk it did, the 'ol 21 year old Frigidaire furnace cracked its heat exchanger. With -30°C weather in the forecast, this was not ideal timing, but when is it ever? Anyway, Chris showed up as soon as he was able to look at what we needed to do for getting heat in the house again. The calculation was a little different than I expected, now they just look at the number and size of windows in the house rather than the size of the house. We also looked together at other issues that we were having like not enough heat pumping into the upstairs and downstairs and how the airflow could be improved. They gave us some time to think about our options and what we were going to do for the install... but they also didn't make us wait on their end. The pencilled in an install date for us so that we wouldn't have to wait. That was so appreciative. They dropped off some smaller space heaters and some larger ones that plugged into the 220V outlets. The rental ended up being free with the install. (But do watch your usage as they're going to chew into your electricity bill... if you have a gas fireplace, best to use that.) So install date came. We chose the Lennox Merit ML296, it is a two-stage rather than a variable stage, but still better than what we had. The furnace could not be vented out of the chimney anymore with the hot water tank, as per the new regulations, and now is vented out the side of the house. So be sure you keep that in mind as there's going to have to be some new pipes and drilling involved. They helped pick the best path for the new intakes and exhaust. One thing that was good was there was no more need for the combustion air intake of the house, so that huge source of cold air into our utility room was going away! They cut and blocked it off. Demolition happened in the morning. The two installers arrived on time. Note for anyone, if you can give them your garage as a staging area that will make things way easier for them. When they pulled out the old furnace it was very clear that the heat exchanger had a nice big hole with another one or two more on the way. Ugh. (See picture.) The new Lennox is a bit smaller than the old one, but they were still able to use the existing ducting by installing an extension. They repositioned the furnace and new filter system (we went for the Merv16 filtration system to take care of dust allergies) to point in a more accessible manor than the old one. In addition to the installation of the furnace I was surprised that they also went and improved the drainage system of my humidifier and the furnace with proper PVC piping rather than the hokey flexible tube it replaced. Way more professional! They carefully went onto the roof and dropped down a new inset in the chimney to allow the water heater to still vent properly and soon after, that afternoon, the new thermostat was installed. All of this was done with proper social distancing and precautions, yet at the same time were available for any of my constant questions or inquiries during the install. Part of the installation included a new thermostat to properly drive the new furnace. We requested an upgrade to the Honeywell T6 Pro Smart Thermostat WIFI (TH6220WF2006/U) and we couldn't be happier! We can now turn up and down the heat when we are away from the house or still in bed with the app or with Siri. With Apple HomeKit, we can set scenes to control it and our other devices. We like the touch display screen a lot better than the normal T6 Pro. It can even send you an alert if your house is too cold or hot. I recommend it. The next day involved opening up the return air on our main floor to allow for better circulation and the addition of a proper one into the basement. New ducting was put in and installed in a location that wouldn't impede the positioning of furniture. The downstairs is still cool, but it isn't freezing like it was before. One thing about the install I did have concerns about was the exhaust outlet, it was positioned at the level of our backyard access path on the side of the house and my boys bumping into it. It also was near where the window opened. I sent them some pictures about it a few weeks later and they happily agreed to put an extension on the pipe to raise it above both issue sources and insulated it from freezing. No charge for the adjustment! In all this was something that I didn't want to have to do... the roof was the one planned. But obviously it was something that we had to do and it was obvious we had to do it with True North Heating and Cooling. I wouldn't have done it any other way! They came out and said it was fixed. It worked for three days. That's when the real problems began. I made numerous phone calls. No one answered, so I left messages. Some calls were returned, some were not. There were three or four no-shows. One time, a tech said he had to run to the shop to grab a part and would be right back. He never came back or called. I had to follow up myself. After waiting another week with no word about the part or a return visit, I called again and told them I felt I had been more than patient. I gave them one more week to fix the system or I'd call someone else. Still, nothing has been done. This started in July. It's October. The air conditioning still isn't fixed.

When asked about what would be done to compensate my clothing as it was soaked and stained red I was told I would have to send a receipt I did nothing followed so I went to get my clothes dry cleaned to see if that would fix it as it was a sweater that my grandmother that passed away had given me, it was still slightly stained. Asked if he would at least cover the dry cleaning. Said to send him a receipt, waited a few months asked again and was told "you must not be as busy as I am" when I asked to pay for his clear negligence. If this is how he deals with such a clean at fault situation I can't imagine doing actual business with this business owner.

The duct cleaning service man indicated to them that the switch in my humidifier was not working. 2. So I had to book another call (with another service call fee added which I was not pleased about -but they did give a 5% reduction) 3. Second time out the service guy (a different one) came out to look at the furnace (said all was good) and then he looked at the humidifier explaining my switch needed replacing. So once again another service call to book with them which I did with Heather. Apparently the service guy "did not carry the Aprilaire switch part. A quote of $200 was set to me which I approved because I did not want to spend another service call fee for the third visit. 3. The appointment reminder (for the third appointment) email was incorrect. The service call was to be for 11 am- the reminder said 1 am. I dismissed it with a laugh thinking it was just a "typo"- they meant 11 am. 4. I texted the repair service guy reminding him he was to come at 11 am. He texts back no "it is 1 pm". 5. I called Heather and explained my dissatisfaction that the appointment was for 11 am and that three service calls to replace a broken humidifier switch (which should have been sorted out the second time after sending pictures of the model of Aprileair 500) is ridiculous. I then sent her via email the incorrect reminder they sent me of my appointment time. 6. They emailed me back to cancel the appointment. Moral of the story.....go elsewhere - there are many other services that are better. They do not schedule appointments correctly and when they are called out on their BS and errors they just cancel you. Unprofessional and incompetent.

My dryer vent was supposed to be cleaned and was not done. The process took about 15 minutes. That blew air from a hose into the vents and then over charged me. They also have a tip option on the machine. I decline a tip. No one tips me to do my job. Now I will need to have another company clean my vents. I will be going to the BBB website for a credible company. So disappointing to pay for a service and it's done so poorly!

His service tech Jackson was friendly but incompetent. In hindsight he was sketchy and I should have watched him like a hawk but I try to let people work. Offered him a coffee and everything. I can't say he was malevolent in his actions but they appear that way to me. Incompetent at the very least. My entire house was / is currently covered with very fine dust. I mean everywhere. I can't sleep in my own bed. My family can't come here until it is cleaned and I am having a tough time finding cleaners with immediate availability. I complained to Roger on Saturday and they "refunded" the $200 I paid them to coat my house in fine dust. I followed up with Roger on Oct 8th 2019 regarding the issue indicating that I wanted my home cleaned. To Roger's credit he showed up same day and tested the air quality which indicated poor with high particulate levels especially in my room where I cannot sleep. He kept saying "So what do you want me to do about it?" and I said make it clean. He would flip flop between "We provided the service you hired us for". Yes. My vents are clean, thanks guys. I told Roger I wanted to have him pay for a furnace cleaning by another company and a cleaner. Above and beyond the hours of cleaning I have already personally done. He kept going back to proof of air quality before the cleaning and that he could not verify the quality of my air. He will blame the quality on the renos that I am doing or my broken humidifier. I have a $1200 HEPA air filter that I run constantly, so the 3700 PPM dust readings in my bedroom ARE without a doubt in my mind, a direct cause of Ducts Unlimited. Just another incompetent company.
