I decided to support local businesses because I was mad at Amazon.... so to get my protein shake I spent almost an hour looking for supplement stores in San Francisco and found out that unfortunately, a lot have closed doors, which is why i got excited to see Max M. Nutrition, so I got in the bus and after less 30 mins. However, the selection there was less than ideal, they were sold out of a lot of products and not even close to what I needed, so I left disappointed in myself because the reason a lot of stores are closing is the competition with online shopping, perhaps if I had done this earlier this store would have more selection :( read more

I walked in looking for little packets of protein powder that I could take on an out-of-town trip to have healthy travel snacks. They didn't have any little packets on display so I was about to walk out when a very kind gentleman introduced himself as Dustin and asked how he could help me. My go to place for all things supplements and nutrition. Highly recommend their Emerge which is only sold here. It's a weight loss supplement that essentially utilizes your fat as energy but also puts you in a great mood. Some other things that are my go to buys here are their Quadra Night Cuts which is a pill that maximizes your calorie loss while you're sleeping. On top of all their great products, they have great and friendly staff too. Amongst them, Dustin has helped me the most. I feel like he's always there whenever i stop by the shop. Take a day off bro! Oh, the Castro. Its men: whoa, mama. The 'hood has got its fair share of hunky men, especially those roaming around the gym. So, when I saw Beyonce's mile-long stems on the Grammy's, I was encouraged to work harder on my own routine. You know, to add to the Castro's repertoire of hotties. Just doin' my part here, folks. I know nothing about protein shakes, but feel a lot more informed after one visit. I tried a few MaxPro flavors and settled on tiramisu. (It sounds weird, but it's a lot tastier than the vanilla and strawberry.) Afraid of injecting yourself with steroids? Welcome to Max Muscle. Full of supplements to help you be ruff and tuff like a spicy cheese puff. I hate to say it but I prefer GNC. Maybe because I used to work at GNC. Also it seems like GNC has more variety of products and lower prices. I have not actually compared the prices, but that is the feeling I get. But hey, if you want some supplements that will really help you get in shape, come get them at Max Muscle before the FDA outlaws them. Something about this place is just weird. I don't feel comfortable browsing the shelves. Maybe because only buff gay guys feel comfortable here. There's no women's section, that's fer sure. The employee always helps you very quickly, which i don't like. I like to just look around. I actually know some things about supplements because I worked at two different GNC stores when I was a teenager, although supplements have changed a lot since then. My advice, don't get carried away with supplements, but use them. Also, don't trust the FDA at all. Anyways, it's cool if you need supplements. The place isn't exactly my cup of tea, but then I am not the type of customer they are trying to attract. I give it 4 and a half stars. So I will round it up to 5 because I have no reason not too. Matt has been coming to this health store for years; since high-school to be exact. When the then-healthy Matt was single and Adonis-like, he would buy all his necessary protein shake mix and supplements here in order to look like Captain America. Now, marriage, and after consuming over 2,000 super burritos and 800 In & Out Double-Double Cheeseburger, he looks nowhere like his idol. Hopefully Matt will get it back together in the upcoming New Year. Matt was here to buy a big container of protein shake and a box of meal-replacement bars. Finding the time to have lunch or even a 1 minute break are hard to come buy these days for Matt's job. The prices are cheaper here as oppose to other healthful stores including GNC, even with the first Tuesday of every month sale. The friendly staffs are really knowledgeable and suggest what items to get and avoid. The male staff complimented on Matt saying he has a nice chassis. It is what it is. Look, GNC is a supplement store for the masses and you'll be very lucky to actually find someone who A: Speaks fluent English and B: Knows ANYTHING about supplements. Max Muscle is the opposite of this. While I still do as much research as possible prior to taking any new supplements, I have always found good information from the guys that work there. Since I have lifted hard for 10 years, I would say I am pretty knowledgeable about my supps and I never worry about an up sell for buying something I don't need. The supps go from Mild to Wild and it is the only place in the city that sells ACL products. If you know what ACL is, then this store is for you. If you want a solid protein, creatine and multivitamin, this place is for you as well. Solid prices, about the same if you buy online and add shipping. Also the only place in the city that sells xtend, which in my opinion is the best product on the market today (BCAA's). read more

I have been coming to this MM Store for probably 3 to 4 years. I've always gotten great assistance from all of the employees I've come in contact with. They have never been rude or dismissive, or rushed. They take time and will either research or just know the answers. When I don't have the time to research, which I don't usually, I can rely on the staff there to have the answer or get back to me about it. And on top of that they are all very good looking; that's a plus. It is as if the pleasant wonderful positive experience of patronizing Max Muscle and working out @ Gold's Gym go hand in hand like working out @ 24 Hour Fitness and buying your supplements @ GNC. I seem to always get some sort of free promo too, they always give me something new to try for FREE. Now, I am hardly in here, they can't possibly recognize or remember me, so I think this is just too great! The service is friendly, without being over bearing or commission oriented (although it may be). Product tip: For a great appetite killer/fat burner that REALLY WORKS, buy 'Intek Evolution' in the green bottle. After being a GNC guy for years, it only took one visit to Max Muscle to through my GNC Gold card in the trash a year ago. The guys are extremely knoweldgeable and the service is terrific. In addition, their supplements are worlds above the GNC formulas. It is definitley more expensive but they will give you a discount for the gym you belong to, repeat customer discount and I think even a Yelp discount and because their proteins and supplements are more effective, you actually use less than GNC's products and they last longer.
