Awesome store with a great selection of kombucha (Wilder, Better Booch, Forage, Wild Tonic, Marin, and more). Delicious-looking vegan prepared foods. Super cool section of local and other craft sauerkraut/pickled items. Local whole grain bread. Basically everything good all in one place.

Oh man what I wouldn't give to have one of these near my house, an awesome little grocery place with not so little items, organic and fry goods by bulk plus prepared foods, and a little corner to the right of the entrance with gifts and sundries. They have all the basics like eggs, bread, milks, etc. plus a whole lot more, e.g. I'm obsessed with the bolani brand flatbreads with stuffings, such as spinach or pumpkin or vegan, which they have. So few places have them and I'm a huge fan. The vibe is laid back and chill, btw., did I mention produce fruits and veggies? Super down to earth helpful friendly service and a charming funky ambience, exactly like what you'd picture being near the beach. Parking is an absolute bear. But it was worth it to stumble onto this little treasure :-)

Kari Kari chili crisp. Has an addicting crunch with so much garlic. Also a nice sweetness finishing it off as well.

Really neat neighborhood grocery store. They have a nice selection of nuts and nut butters. There's this Hummingbird brand trail mix called "Hazelnut Munch" I discovered in Portland that's stocked here. It's a mix with roasted hazelnuts, dried cherries, and milk chocolate disks. And recently discovered my new favorite chili crisp thanks to them. The Kari Kari garlic chili crisp jar is what I imagined a good chili crisp should be. So thank you to the person who decided to stock it. They also stock bread from Rosalind bakery, but you'll need to go early to grab a loaf before they sell out for the day. Really awesome place to find new items to try.

It's kind of out there. As in, you can almost smell the saltwater. It is only five or six blocks from the Pacific Ocean. I've been shopping here the past two or three years but knew about it when my former employer supplied them products. An Outer Sunset staple, the location was a logical choice in the '70's when health foods was a 'craze' and not yet a lifestyle. The demographics were mainly your 'hippies' and surfers and, being within eyes' view of Ocean Beach, the neighborhood obviously supported them over the years. Though I find many healthy items at those chains, natural food markets, and farmers' markets, there were certain soy based brands that I no longer could find especially after shelter in place became mandated. The staff were kind in connecting me with the buyer who kindly provided me the scheduled delivery days so that I could time my visits to find the items that I sought. Besides prepared foods, they have fresh produce in a refrigerated section inside the store as well as along the sidewalk. They carry supplements, pasta sauces, and variety of health oriented products so it can be a one-stop shop for some. Under the current circumstances, they are limiting capacity for shoppers so there may be a line during peak times. Hand sanitizers are provided and social distancing and masks are required. Contactless payment is available. Will be back when those items are on my shopping list again.

I have never actually been inside OA since my sibling is the one who brings home the beer/alcoholic canned drinks from OA. 5 stars for creative selections, but minus 1 star because I shouldn't make haste inclinations until I've experienced OA myself.

Love that the entire staff was wearing gloves & masks. There was a sneeze guard barrier between the cash register and customers getting rung up. I bought a quinoa salad that was a bit pricey but I appreciated how cautious the store associate was when handling the utensil I asked for...he did not grab it by the head but rather by the handle. Their assortment of produce seemed fresh, beautifully arranged, and fairly priced(considering it was all locally grown). Overall, a charmingly quaint & humble little co-op to visit for some healthy snacks, good ingredients, and assortment of drinks on your way to Ocean Beach.

Wanted to start 2022 with some goodies. I went to Other Avenues and it was a good place to grab a drink and they also a large variety of healthy food options available. I really liked the organic products for sale.

I remarked how this salt looked like Egyptian frost salt and got a head shake, "Don't know that one". Okay, it's esoteric but also got a non-committal head shake they don't carry Maldon sea salt, commonplace for baking and a finishing salt. I explained I use it to make Blue Bottle Coffee's granola blend. Weak smile. I remarked that I liked their photography cards of beautiful recipe ideas near the jars ("What a good idea!") and shared my use of Vadouvan in a eggplant, chicken & basil stir fry I made up. I got another tepid response. I explained I cook a lot at home and had over 200 jars from the former Spice Ace store that needed to be replaced, "Sadly they faded with time." At this point, don't you think the salesperson would've jumped on that, "Would you like me to pull some jars, get that project underway for a New Year?" No. The owners should be slapping their hands on their forehead watching hundreds of dollars not go into their till that day and developing me as a regular customer. I have money to spend, clearly like to cook and told them I need to replace 200 jars. I practically placed a grappling hook in my cheek like a big mouth bass and told them to reel me in! I decided to ask about their pricing structure, noticing the nonsensical spread on the large and small jars, "Because they didn't get good pricing when they bought the smaller jars" Now muttering to myself, "So how is that *my* problem?" Oaktown Spice Shop is a growing and well-received small chain of three retail stores, two in the East Bay, that has a wholesale roster of James Beard and Michelin starred restaurants and high end delivery services like fellow East Bay business Good Eggs. If the owners read this review, they desperately need to retrain their retail staff. They rang up my small $22 sale as I began mentally filling my old Spice Ace jars at Rainbow Grocery.
