I had the most awful experience. I am a physician, and I know to do ALL my research and look up ingredients and see what ingredients should be interacted with each other. I spent months looking into into IPL and seeing how it would react with other skin products that I use. I decided to make an appointment for IPL, however, I then found out I had an interview 3 days after my appointment so I emailed the place to see what their thoughts were. I got an email stating that it wouldn't be a good idea because my face would be darker before falling off, which I already knew so I agreed as well. I decided to just come for a consultation and a facial. When I got there, Maxine was very confused as to why I was there. I explained it to her, and she said that I could still do IPL. I was nervous. I showed her every single product I was using on my face and all it's ingredients. I told her that I was nervous about IPL because of my interview and she insisted that my face would actually look better rather than worse because she did not feel that I had much hyperpigmentation. She also went ahead and said " I met people like you before" making fun of the fact that I actually do my research and get nervous about procedures on my face. I don't know about you but this is a normal way to react to your own face! My face was burnt-- first degree burn. I sent pictures to Maxine the next day and she said " I didn't anticipate for your face to be sensitive". She then wanted to give me a " calming facial" but told me to come that day. I couldn't come. She was also closed Sunday and Monday I believe because the nExt day she offered to as Tuesday. I don't live in Philadelphia, and I had to go back to work- and last time I checked, facials don't cure first degree burns. She then sent me some hydroquinone for my face to my house to use-- 2%. This is something you can just get over the counter. This Wasn't anything special. She doesn't offer any money back, no refund, no nothing. I basically paid almost 200 dollars to add dark spots to my face and burn my face. I don't recommend this place to anyone. It's just throwing your money away. read more

This place is just okay especially for Fishtown. I went there a while back and it's like a mediocre Med Spa especially if you compare it to a more prestigious and gorgeous looking Med Spas like La Chelè Med Spa out in Newtown area. Even En Vogue Med Spa out in Southampton, or Enigma on Red Lion Rd, or even Revive Med Spa on N.2nd St. offers way more services than this place and treatment rooms look nicer. Their rooms look unprofessional to a degree with poor looking cabinets and carts that look disorganized and unsanitary. Every Med Spa I have ever been to have their rooms furnished with nice bed tables, adjustable chairs for injections, nice cabinets, counters, ample work space and their products aren't in bottles that are written with a sharpie marker. For the prices they charge their treatments rooms shouldn't look like it was thrown together with bare minimum effort and equipment. I even noticed they keep their old looking towel warmers on the floor and that is utterly disgusting and feels like an unsterile environment especially for a Medical Spa. Clients DO notice these things. Your treatment rooms represent your brand and image of your business. Give your employees/business partners treatment rooms they would be proud to work in and makes the client feel like you care about it's sanitary environment as well. The services are great no doubt; but they need to keep up with what the other Med Spas offer in terms of the latest technology and various types of services to stay competitive. They don't offer for example Emsulpt, Co2 Skin Resurfacing, Coolsculpting Elite, RF Microneedling nor Velashape. I hate to have to travel out of the area just to find these services. They don't even have a designated receptionist area by the front entry area to greet you, their receptionist works in some hallway and walks out from behind this hallway to greet you. The front looks eerie empty..nice but oddly unmanned. It's a very bare minimum type of place, nothing too special about it. The one good thing is atleast their technicians wear professional lab jackets and they carry themselves professionally, do amazing services, and very nice to talk to. She prices services fairly, treats patients and staff with respect and gives honest advice about whether each service will be a good value. I am nearing 40, and my skin is showing some years. Maxine has steered me away from expensive procedures and helped me keep a healthy perspective. I've had great results with microdermabrasion facials to brighten overall. She also removes those pesky milia (keratin cysts) on a regular basis to keep my skin smooth. I'm especially grateful for what Maxine did with the IPL laser to remove broken capillaries by my eye. Very good experience for my first time getting a facial. I had a consultation first. Tip: bring the current products you use on your face that will help with the consult. I had microdermabrasion, extraction and a light chemical peel. Everything took about an hour and 15 mins. My face was smoother to the touch after the process. Days after my face began to peel from the chemical peel but it wasn't too much. I loved my experience because Maxine explained everything step by step. Check in to Facebook for $5 off. I hadn't had a facial in a long time, so I thought I'd go all out on this one. I opted to take advantage of their "celebrity glow facial" special ($200 instead of $300), described as "An incredible skin tightening and collagen plumping facial " Maxine did my facial, and she was a total sweetheart. I felt like she really took the time to understand my skin, she was gentle and she really knew what she was doing. That being said, I'm not sure what I expected after this facial, but unfortunately I don't really see or feel any difference in my skin. (No noticeable glow, tightening, etc). So, that was a bit of a let down, especially considering the steep cost. I'm giving 4 stars because I did like Maxine a lot. I would love to find a go-to place, so, I might try a different facial in the future and hope for better results! read more

I have had many ipl in nyc. This one i did face and neck for $300 total and the entire procedure took 15 min. What a rip off. DO NOT GO HERE. The technician was nice but this place is a rip off and doesn't work. I wish there was a complaint department cuz if the machine works then it def takes longer as my other treatments have. I guess u get what u pay for. 1/2 price = 1/2 results. The manager emailed me and said sorry but they haven't done anything to make it right. I have been going to MaxAesthetics for over a year now: I've had both the genesis laser and microneedling procedures done, and I've been happy with the service and the results. Siani and Maxine have each worked on my skin separately, and they were both so attentive and caring of my concerns. This was my first time at Maxaethetics and I can't recommend it highly enough. I had a problem with a sebaceous gland on my face that had become increasingly enlarged over the years and was now something I was acutely self-conscious of. Maxine treated it with an electric needle, which was essentially a pain-free procedure, with Maxine explaining everything as she went along. She was so friendly and welcoming, as were her staff. After a couple of weeks the area had healed completely, the sebaceous gland was gone, and there was virtually no noticeable sign that my skin had ever been worked on. I came to Max Aesthetics on Memorial Day weekend for a bikini waxing. I was surprised that I was able to make an appointment at the last minute (I'm talking just three or four hours beforehand!) because my aesthetician at my usual place was on vacation. So I took a chance and came here to a small salon tucked away in a luxury hotel in Philadelphia. It was kind of hidden, so I would recommend that you give yourself an extra ten minutes when coming here for the first time. Since I could not find it at first I gave the salon a call and was given on-point directions right to the door where I was greeted by Maxine, the owner. Turns out she kept the salon opened on the holiday weekend and was running the place seemingly by herself so that her staff could go away for the weekend. Sounds like a great boss huh? So Maxine herself gave me a bikini wax of the full brazilian variety. She did it as quickly as she could in an attempt to cause as little pain as possible, which I appreciated. Not only was she fast but she was thorough and did not miss any spots, plucking where she needed to. The place looked clean, but did not have your typical decor for this type of salon (miniature water falls, low lighting, buddha statues, harp music in the background, whatever the case may be) but I didn't miss any of that honestly. It cost a bit more than my regular place would have - I usually pay $50 for a full brazilian and she charges $75, but I think it's still worth the price, (plus she gave me a coupon to come back). I would definitely return to Maxine at Max Aesthetics for my waxing and hair removal needs and I recommend you give her a try as well! * Oh, and please note: there is street parking right outside, and I didn't have much trouble finding a spot, but you may want to allow some extra time getting there just in case you have trouble parking. read more

I paid a large amount of money for a horrible experience getting a chemical peel and comedone extraction done by Maxine. First she was too rough doing my comedone extraction. She extracted pimples near and around my bottom lip that caused my lip to be swollen for 3 weeks. Second the chemical peel had an overwhelming burning sensation that caused her to wash it off my face very early. At the end of my treatment I was trying to learn more about her products and she walked away in the middle of our conversation.I was blown away by the amount of unprofessionalism that was displayed so I kindly left and never returned. read more

I bought a Groupon for IPL and was excited like one of the reviewers. The result: IPL didn't deliver any improvement and I was red-ichy-peeling after the treatment. What I have experienced were: -technician briefly explained the treatment procedure -no cleaning before the treatment -no gel or topical anesthesia was applied before/during the treatment -technician warned about rubber band snapping sensation -snap snap! -cooling by the laser head (the part that did the snapping) -done! The all procedure was done within 20 minutes. I have no previous experience of IPL treatment so I can't compare. The reason of giving 3-star is that I feel there should be more of this treatment based on what I've read about the treatment, but I'm not getting them because I paid at a discounted price. I was also surprised that I had a rather severe sunburn-peeling side effect afterwards. I was aware of the possibility but didn't expected that my whole face would be peeling. Conclusion... I will not go back there, although the technician was nice and welcoming, because I'm worried to have my face burned. read more

I have been going to MaxAesthetics for years and I can't say enough about the treatments I've received. No matter what my issue, Maxine always customizes my treatments - and varies the intensities - based on my skin at the time/day of my visit. (I am in my mid 40s.) I go in and tell her I feel dry, or my skin looks dull, and she always knows what combination of treatments I would benefit from the most. Sometimes it's Microdermabrasion, a few extractions and a skin brightener, or maybe it's a laser treatment, and a light peel. I never know what she is going to do, but my input - combined with her years of knowledge and experience with different awesome equipment - and I am never disappointed. I even had a series of 2 IPL facials and my dark spots and freckles flaked away as promised. NO more heavy concealer for me. People are whining about their skin being dry or flakey after the IPL, but that's how you get a nice result, and what it's designed to do. MaxAesthetics is the only place I go for my skincare now. I was looking for a solution to lightening the scattered freckles on my cheeks and nose and an overall skin refresher. A friend of mine suggested I look for certified dermatologists/ estheticians just to be safe and I came across Maxaesthetics while searching the internet. Maxine had a quick and thorough consultation with me before the procedure. I initially thought I wanted a chemical peel but she advised an IPL facial would prove more beneficial for what I was looking to accomplish. The process took about 15-20 mins and it's accurate that the laser feels like quick rubber band snaps. Nothing unbearable and it took no time at all. Maxine then explained any dark spots would darken in the upcoming week as it rose to the surface of the skin then eventually flake off. I was given a list of after-care instructions which I followed and 3 weeks later I am so glad I went in and definitely see the results. The price was also way more affordable than I expected so I will be coming back for any future skin care needs. Maxine is knowledgeable and patient and I feel I was getting so much value in what I spent in guidance, professionalism, and results. Side note for any future clients: The office was a little hard to find for me. Maxine and the other staff are amazing! I went to get my very first IPL and was pleasantly surprised when I was told that they were offering a special rate of $150 per session! I had done some research and found costs between $200 and $500 per session!! YIKES! I quickly booked my appointment and waited anxiously! Meeting Maxine was great! She was professional and informative about the process, expectations and aftercare. The whole visit took less than an hour. Awesome for me since I went on a lunch break! I booked my second session for 4 weeks later and was out the door! My skin reacted to the IPL wonderfully! Until about day 10!! I started noticing that I was developing some brown patches which were large and unsightly! I was devastated and thought that I had ruined my face with this procedure. I waited to see if it would clear up, but it didn't. I reached out to Max a few days prior to my follow up to explain my dilemma. She was very helpful and asked me to send over a photo. I was armed with a ton! I even sent over a collage showing the progression of my skin post treatment. She responded to email quickly and said that we could take care of things on my next visit. I went in with a positive attitude and was excited to see what we were going to do. Max explained that sometimes the melanin can come back up to the surface. In my case, I had melasma (8 month old baby) and I didn't realize it. So, this treatment she increased the light in some areas. After the light she applied a cream to my face and sent me home with instructions to apply a cream nightly that SHE INVENTED!!!! beginning the third night! Welp, here I am day 12 after my second session and the compliments on my skin just keep coming in!! Everything from "you're glowing" to "wow! You are looking younger and younger every day!" Even my 16 year old daughter who almost never has anything nice to say to me, commented on how awesome my skin looks! I am loving the results so much that I can't stop looking at my skin! I bought IPL Photofacial (series of 5) on Groupon and this by far was my best IPL experience. I had it done once before by a dematologist and really didn't have the results I hoped. I ended up doing a series of 4 on my face and the last one on my very badly sundamaged chest. My face looks stellar! Broken blood vessels are gone and 99% of the sun damage and uneven skin tone due to acne scars etc are gone too! My aesthetcian was as sweet as can be and very professional. She didn't rush through it and really focused on the different areas of my face that needed the extra attention. She also was constantly asking how i was doing in terms of my pain threshold. I consider myself to have a pretty high threshold so I never needed a break but be warned it feels like an electric shock and it's not pleasant. But it doesn't take long and the results are really worth it. I will go back to this med-spa for additional services as needed. I also saw a doctor come in especialy to just do the injections on another patient. This is a small bare bones med-spa but I really like them. read more
