I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience with Maximillian Motorsports. Maximillian Motorsports was recommended to me by Auto Tech Services out of Rochester. Unfortunately, due to the experience I had here, I will no longer be bringing my vehicles to either business ever again. I brought my 2013 BMW 328i to them with a check engine light, but the vehicle was still running and drivable. Their own initial notes stated that though it had a rough idle, the car drove okay. After a two week wait and based on their diagnosis, I approved a major Valvetronic repair totaling several thousand dollars because I trusted their professional recommendation that it would resolve the issue. After the repair, the vehicle was in significantly worse condition and would no longer maintain idle properly. I raised my concerns and was eventually contacted directly by the owner, Max, who told me the car had been personally test driven, was in better condition than when I brought it in, and was drivable, although it still had a rough idle and needed additional work. Based on those assurances, I paid the remaining balance and picked the vehicle up. After a sketchy drive home the car home, it would no longer stay running at all. I understand older European vehicles can have multiple underlying issues, and I was never expecting perfection. My frustration comes from paying thousands of dollars (6000 total) for a repair that ultimately left the vehicle in worse condition than when it arrived. Communication throughout the process was poor and inconsistent, and expectations were not clearly communicated. Even the owner, Max himself, acknowledged directly to me that the business needed to improve its communication and standards. I attempted multiple times to resolve this professionally before posting this review. I would strongly encourage anyone considering major repairs here to make sure they fully understand the risks, possible outcomes, and financial implications before approving expensive work through Maximillian Motorsports. read more

My family and I were stuck on I-5 and needed a reliable place that could help in a pinch. I contacted several shops in the area but most were either unable to help us with the short notice or unable to provide us with a clear plan. After several towings and 18 hours later, I was able to reach a plan of action to get my vehicle back from Chehalis to Seattle. Incredible service - I would highly recommend Maximilian Motorsports. My car broke down during a trip 4 hours away from home and I was frantically calling around to mechanics in the area to assess my car. All the other shops said they didn't have availability for over a month. I spoke to Max on the phone and explained my predicament and he was able to provide a diagnostic (overheating leading to a broken head gasket) the next day after the car was towed to the shop. He provided exceptional service and attention to detail at a very fair price, despite knowing I was likely a "one off" customer as I reside in Vancouver, Canada. My gas line, filltube-to-tank had come loose and disconnected from the gas tank not allowing me to fill my car with gas as gas would just exit the fill tube and enter the ground. I drive an E92 BMW. Due to the covers under the car the fill tube and tank cannot be seen or accessed. I just drove the car 180 miles and went into a store in Chehalis. When I came out, the tank was empty with some spillage on the ground so whatever occurred, did so at the time I was in the store which was about 10 minutes. My car was towed to Maximilian. It was late at night. They sent me a fuzzy photo of a slice in the tank and said my driveline had some weird anomaly that they could not replicate and rubbed a hole in the gas tank. They wanted to charge me 1400$ for a repair so I just towed it home and replaced the tank myself. When I removed the covers, driveline, exhaust and all required parts the tank can finally be seen. The tank is horribly thick and flexing is impossible. The hole I believe was made by the shop. It fit my 4" grinder for a perfect slice going inward, not outward as a driveline would have made. Also, the driveline is round and would have created a thin concave pattern before the thinnest part to make a tear, this was a perfect delivered slice. There were drain patters where the fuel came out - these were all from the fill tube hole, with no drainage coming from the slice. Also, the slice was 5" up the tank and would have allowed for the tank to hold maybe 7 gallons - but the tank would hold no gas, as it was draining out the filltube connection on the bottom. This would show that no fuel leaked out the sliced hole and all fuel leaked out the fill tube hole before the slice existed. Someone sliced my tank with a grinder after fuel had already drained. This would not have been any nefarious action at the store as the tank is inaccessible and removing and replacing covers would take a lot of time and a jack - also there would be spill patterns at the slice. Someone accessed the tank and cut this. I believe it happened at this shop. Reading other reviews I conclude that if you are not from the area, exercise caution as the reviews seem not to go with good ratings from people that are out of town. read more

Sadly I have to give 1 star. Would give less if I could. Max had my sons car for almost 3 months. The answers I got when I'd call seemed in hindsight mostly B.S. The car died at the end of maxs driveway when my son was finally able to pick it up. A "mechanic " came out and got it started again then laughed and said good luck as he walked back to the shop. The car made it half way home. I had to tow it the rest of the way. So, about $2000 at maxs shop and its no better than before. The issue was that it died and wouldn't start. It will turn over now but thats it. In looking things over I found 1 spark plug just beyond hand tight, 1 completely loosen maybe a few turns in, and the last 2 barely hand tight...and I mean hand tight without a ratchet! Gave him a call, texted, and finally a response to look for a new coil plug at a wrecking yard. No offer to look at the car or stand behind his work. I'm beyond disappointed! I've been in the auto industry 30+ years and this is not a shop I would take a lawnmower to. Way over priced! Just a side note, my son is paid for this. Thats alot of $ for a full time student working part time to manage. The only other shop I've had this bad of an experience ended up in the news a week later facing various charges. Max and his team helped me in a pinch. I was in town on a road trip from New York and needed a battery replaced in my Audi (inconveniently located under the Driver's seat) and the electronic system reset by computer. Definitely not a simple DIY job. Max took my call, jumped into action, located a battery in town, communicated well throughout, and I was back on the road by the afternoon. He also knew I was unlikely to be a repeat customer, but treated me like one of his best. Bonus is a great lobby for customers with WiFi, clean bathroom, etc. read more

I was very optimistic when i first found this shop in my area. A clean small shop that seems to care about its customers and their cars. My first time was a positive experience. I brought my car in, less than two days later i had my car back all fixed up. No problems. But my second attempt was not so smooth. Communication from the shop is nonexistent. After agreeing to do some work on my vehicle, no progress would be made for weeks. So I would call back, over and over. Every time i got the same response, "yeah I will get right on it" or "I am working on it right now". I eventually gave up and took it somewhere else. In the end I have concluded that the shop is unreliable. I simply cannot trust them to do what they say they will do. Very disappointing. read more

Max is very understanding and very open when doing business. He always offers to find a comparable part that costs less for his customers. He always goes the extra mile to make me happy to give him business. He also has a very clean shop and a beautiful lobby area, this is not something I have seen in many shops. On July 3 I was on a road trip and 140 miles from home when I re-fueled from an empty tank at a location near this shop. As soon as I put gas in the tank it spilled on the ground. I had the car towed to the shop location and inspected. I was with my wife and 2 very small children. We were in a hotel for 2 nights and spent a great deal of money. The car was "inspected" by this shop and they sent me a very poor picture of a gash in the plastic fuel tank. Their explanation was that an unknown phenomenon caused the fuel tank to expand and rub on the drive-line until the tank had this sharp gash in it. I was quoted $1700.00 I towed the car home using AAA and my insurance tow. To remove my tank I had to remove the exhaust and the drive-line and work was extensive, it took me a week after coming home from my job and a weekend to have all the parts and get the job done. Upon inspection, where the gash was located was impossible for the tank to reach the drive-line in any way and I could not replicate the problem. The cut was sharp, through 1/4" of hard plastic and the rub was outward, not inward. The drive-line had small white spots on it but not a solid line that would support anything remotely what was explained by the shop. The cut was not concave from the round indent of the drive-line. We matched a 4" grinder to the slash and it was a perfect fit and matched the damage perfectly. The cut was located 1/4 in depth in the tank so it held 5 gallons of gas before it would spill out of the hole, however, when I fueled the car from empty, gas immediately spilled on the ground, supporting a leak at 0 level, not 1/4 of the way up or the tank would have held 5 gallons. The tank had stains from fuel spilling at the fill hose, and no stain whatsoever from the gash. At no time did fuel leak out of the gash that I could see. It was more likely that the fuel-fill line had separated from the tank and spilled, as there was evidence of fuel draining there all over the bottom of the tank. A free fix by reinstalling a clamp and tightening could have likely been completed. Based on the evidence, it is my belief that someone at the shop cut my fuel tank with a grinder to create the job of service to produce profit. If this did occur, the shop would have allowed me to be stranded with 2 small children and out more than $2,000 with hotel bills etc. Please see attached photos and decide for yourself if my conclusion is likely or not. As I read other reviews, it might appear that other individuals on road trips or far from home have stated they were taken advantage of. There potentially could be a pattern here. read more

This would be a very good Euro auto repair shop in any location. I would have expected Max to have located his shop in Tacoma or Seattle, but fortunately for us, he's right here in Lewis County, just a couple minutes off I-5 (exit 74 if you're coming from the north, exit 72 if you're coming from the south). Max and his team are Euro car experts, and will give you dealer-level service at a very reasonable price. If you drive a BMW, Audi, Mercedes, VW, Porsche, Volvo, Bentley, Rolls Royce, or just about any Euro or British auto, you don't have to take it to the dealer or to one of the expensive shops in Seattle or Portland. Maximilian Motorsports has been operating in Lewis County for over 20 years. Max is genial and honest. They are Repair Pal certified, and carry an A+ rating from BBB. I am a competent DIY mechanic, and generally do the routine service on my cars, including brakes, suspension, timing belt changes, etc. The issues I cannot diagnose and fix, I take to Max. read more

If this is your only choice for an auto shop just stop what you're doing and buy a new car instead. It will be less stressful and cheaper. Getting my car fixed here was literally the worst mistake I have ever made in my entire life. I needed a timing belt fixed. From an original estimate of a few hundred dollars and a week of time it went to around $7,000 and over 3 months. The "repairs" cost more than my car. Max said I needed a whole new engine, which would cost 4 grand... he ended up putting 3 different engines in my car... telling me my car would be ready and to come pick it up several times. I was living in a different state (car broke down while traveling from parent's home to a new town for college) so I literally had to book a flight to come get it. I would call the day of that i was supposed to pick it up and he would tell me that the engine he put in had something wrong with it and he had to order another one. This happened 3 times. Every time he said it would for sure be ready in a couple weeks, and he would call me or email me with updates. Not once did he email me, not once did he return a call, not once did he call me. Most of the times I called wondering what was going on with my car he would promise to call back in 15 minutes. He would never call back. I literally had to cancel a flight because my car wasn't ready after he said it would be for sure. After my engine was finally fixed (he even said he test drove it) and ready to pick up he then said that my air suspension was broken and the car could not be driven, and he refused to let my dad drive it home. So my only choice was to let him fix the suspension. This cost about $600 for one side. After literally 4 months of me trying and trying to get ahold of him and trying to get a cost estimate and breakdown of what he was actually doing to the car I finally was able to pick up the car. So many of my plans had to be cancelled and changed that summer because he'd say it was for sure ready, then the day I was to pick it up he'd either make up an excuse for why it wasn't ready or he would just act like he had no idea what I was talking about and would say that he "never guaranteed it would be ready." He always says he can't let me take the car unless its totally finished because it has to be up to standard to his warranty. So literally this was a terrible, horrible, nightmare but finally I could pick it up.... and when I went to start my car it was dead. The battery was brand new and worked fine before I gave it to him so now I had to wait for that to get fixed, which shouldn't have even been bad. Finally now I am getting ready to pay for it, and it costs way more than I expected. I was trying for weeks and weeks for him to give me a price and he never would. So now I have to use a credit card to pay for it and not cash. He freaks out and gets mad at me for asking to use a card (even though there is a sign that says they take cards) because "he is already losing so much money" and he doesn't want to pay the card fees. Finally my mom had to bitch him out before he would take the card. The entire time he was guilt tripping me saying it was MY fault that it took so long and MY fault that he was "losing" money. I finally have my car back and drive it home and guess what, the engine has an oil leak and the air suspension he "replaced" is leaking. So I had to take it into a new shop that fixed my entire suspension with new parts and the oil leak for $800, it took them one day. They also said the parts that max used to replace on my car were old, bad parts. (it cost $600 from max to "fix" ONE of my air bag suspensions and it still leaked) Since all of max's work is under warranty I called him to ask about the air suspension and get a new part but of course he just said I'll call you back and then never did. Also, while I was waiting in his shop lobby I heard him guilt trip other customers. They were shocked about a price and he acted confused and asked if they never got his emails that he sent? They said no, and that they kept asking for emails of the estimate but he never sent them. He tried to convince them that they just didn't know how to use email and that he indeed sent everything, which I'm sure he never did. In short, Max is the worst mechanic I have ever met and also a terrible person and I truly hope with all of my heart that his business fails and he becomes bankrupt. Very very glad I found Maximilian Motorsports! I have an older beetle and used to go to someone else nearby, I wish I had used Maximilian's services from the beginning. Very knowledgeable! Has been a pleasure to work with, he took time to ask me about my car and to what level I would like to get it at. Has worked within my budget and given me some direction on some things I wanted to fix myself. I have called several times with questions when something happens and been told to swing by so he could take a look. I highly recommend Maximilian Motorsports!
