I had the roast pork bun, custard bun and the pineapple bun. I'd rank the pineapple bun first, then the custard bun and then lastly the roast pork bun. They were all well made but the roast pork bun was too sweet for me. The filling was sweet & the bread was sweet. I think if the pork was more salty/savory it would have been more complimentary. A pretty decent Asian bakery! You get spilled when you live in California where looking for an Asian bakery was easy! So was excited to find this place on Yelp! The place is not large, it's clean. They have some buns to choose from, they didn't have much on one side of the store. We got a few bbq pork bun, custard bun, ham and cheese bun and egg custard tarts. This little oriental bakery is fantastic! We were dining at a restaurant nearby and decided to pop in. I actually found it on Yelp earlier that day not knowing it was right down the street from dinner! Our first visit we didn't have any cash but still wanted to check it out to see what all they had. She confirmed and as we were walking around looking at all the delicious buns, the lady behind the counter prepared a goodie bag for us! It was the sweetest thing ever!! Growing up in HK, I pretty much ate buns for breakfast every day and I can honestly eat it all day every day because they are just so good. I was super excited to find a bakery that has stuff that I grew up eating. I went there around 2-3 on Saturday and they had a good selection of the buns but hardly any desserts. The buns were all really big compared to what I'm used to, so the prices are pretty good for that size. I got roast pork bun, sponge cupcake, coconut cream bun, coffee cake roll, coconut roll bun and one other bun that I can't remember the English name for it. The sponge cupcake and coconut cream bun were probably my favorites; they were pretty close to what I'm used to. As far as everything else goes, I'm sorry but I was just quite disappointed. The buns were huge but they had very little filling in them, especially the coconut roll bun. The coffee cake roll had great texture and the cream filling was delicious too but unfortunately, I just couldn't really taste the coffee flavor in it. Overall, I must say that I was pretty disappointed probably due to my high expectations for authentic Asian baked goods. The buns also weren't warm like they are in HK bakeries and they didn't seem really fresh either...Maybe I just went in on a wrong day but I probably won't be back again. read more

My mother actually knows the owner, and I've had a chance to walk through the back and it's so nice to see all the dough rising and being prepped and buns being baked. I can see how service can be lacking; however, I really love the buns here. My favorites are the coconut whipped cream bun, the sponge cakes, jelly rolls, and the cakes (with fruit and whipped cream topping! so light and delish!). There's a lot of little knick-knacks as well on the wall and some Asian snacks. I would give it a zero star if I could. I did not see any recent reviews on their fruit cake and decided to take a chance and ordered it since under new management. Save your $40 and buy it elsewhere. They skimped on the fruits on top and fillings on the inside. Like their usual question, they'll ask if it's for a boy or girl. I told them it was for a girl, actually for Mom. You would think they would decorate it with large chunks of fruits like strawberries, peaches, melon balls & kiwi which we are accustomed to seeing knowing that it was for an Adult. No, they put very limited quarter wedges of strawberries only and with sprinkles. It was a kid's bday cake! Even the writing on the cake was childist, no calligraphy like the previous owner. They intentionally flipped the strawberries upside down so you couldn't see the black mold on them, totally disgusting! When I called the next day to raise my concerns and disappointment, the owner did not care and said I should've specified I wanted extra fruits on top before I placed the order. Great local family run bakery, Wife in the front and Husband in the back. They sell an great assortment of Chinese bakery items as well as cakes and other tiny goodies that reminds me of a bakery in Hong King. They only accept cash so bear in mind to bring some hard currency. If you've never tried a Chinese bakery item I guarantee you there's a chance you may like it. There's such a large assortment something will probably click with you. I myself enjoy the pork and pineapple buns but my all time favorite are the egg tarts. read more

Coming from Orlando- where you can find an Oriental Bakery offering a variety of sweet breads pretty easily- I found myself at a loss in South Florida when I felt a craving for something along the lines of a custard bun. I searched on Yelp and after a little digging, came across Maxim. Lucky me, it was only a few minutes from my house so I drove over in the afternoon. It's tucked away in a strip mall, and can be easy to miss among all the other shops. The inside is nothing extravagant, and honestly the staff is not particularly friendly or warm- however their selection is way better than most of the other bakeries I've seen around town. And they're reasonably priced. I picked up a few breads and thank goodness I had cash because they are CASH ONLY. The breads themselves were delicious- I had a custard bun, milk bun and a Bavarian bun. I've been back a few times since and have never been disappointed with what I've tried. As a Chinese person, the bread here isn't all that great. It's on the pricey side too at around $1.30 for each bread. The bread has a lack of taste and perhaps it needs a bit more butter. They have a good selection of the standard Asian pastries and breads. I got two pineapple buns, two pineapple coconut buns, a ham and chive bun, a pork sung bun, and two grass jelly drinks for $10. Decently priced for the area. They also sell fruit cakes and pastry rolls. My mother in law got the roasted bbq pork (chasiu) buns and the egg tarts.
