Absolutely wonderful Dr! Highly knowledgeable,caring, patient, empathetic, accessable. Had chronic health issue with facial angioedema,was hospitalized numerous times with anaphylaxis.. Other Drs had no clue how to treat. Dr Baum gave me a cocktail of -over- the- counter-medications and I haven't had one episode for over 2 years! What an incredible experience. I was suffering from post-nasal drip, itchy, watery eyes and sinus pressure for weeks. I had sinus surgery in 2014 to remove a cyst, clean out my turbines and crack my septum into place. Since then, I haven't had major sinus infections and certainly no chronic infections. My ENT Arthur Wu (a gem) advised Maxine after a bout with non-stop symptoms. Maxine consulted with me in her office first and we discussed my history. She was not condescending or arrogant. She immediately put me at ease and was determined to find the root cause and cure of my suffering. I was impressed. An assistant administered the allergy test. Maxine provided a detailed list of allergins and let me know I have vasonasal motor syndrome. A slight pollen and cat allergy, but the rest are climate-driven. She told me to try zyrtec vs. claritin and to continue with my nasal spray steroid regimen and irrigating my sinuses. She said I wouldn't need allergy shots. It's 3 weeks later and I feel incredible. Dr. Baum is my allergist and a darn good one. She's throrough, friendly and her staff is great, too. I have chronic allergies and asthma, and they always manage to make me feel better even though i have to breathe this gross Los Angeles air. She is kind of serious though, and didn't think there was anything funny about her writing "extremely allergic to the outdoors" on my allergy test results. Good listener and takes into consideration what your insurance might/might not cover when it comes to prescribing medications, also very creative when coming up with alternative solutions for specific problems. I can't use a liquid nasal spray because it gives me headaches, so she recommended using an inhaled powder, only i put it up my nose. with a plastic nipple from a baby bottle. go figure. nice art on the walls, not such a great magazine selection, usually prompt about appointment times. parking at cedars sucks, but if you park at beverly center and walk over, it's only a buck. read more

I might even get a emotional writing this. I started coming to Dr. Baum 2 weeks ago and it was only for allergy shots, so I actually have a different allergist that has been treating me for 8 months and shares patients with Dr. Baum. But I have to admit, that might change for me soon and I might just go to Dr. Baum for everything, When I came in I had severe asthma, severe eczema and severe allergies. I was so miserable and hopeless it was actually turning into depression. Eczema all over my face and eyes, asthma so bad I can't sleep and allergies so bad I've had to totally remodel my house and the way I live. I used to live near the beach and just moved into the city a year and half ago, thats when my world was turned up side down. I found out I'm very allergic to pollens and dust. City = dust. Beautiful Landscape on the property = pollens. :( Dr. Baum changed my inhalers and some of my allergy meds. WOW!!! With in 4 days it was all gone!! I'm still on the regimen until my follow up in a month and still getting weekly allergy shots but I'm already a different person. My skin is back to normal and even glowing or perhaps its the joy within thats glowing. :) read more

My favorite doctor. Ever. I was referred to Dr. Eitches' office (ha sounds like itchies!) after a seriously freaky hive outbreak that left me looking like Mystique from X-Man on and off for WEEKS. Dr. Baum was available for a consult the day after I called, and I went in exhausted, defeated and generally feeling like a leper. She immediately addressed my fears and offered a wide array of remedies and OTC drug cocktails to kick my hives to the curb. She's even available on call, and talked me down on a Sunday when the hives covered me up my eyeballs (literally). I came back a few weeks later for an allergy test and WHOA, I discovered that I'm allergic to just about um, everything and again, Dr. Baum and the nurse, Star, were very thorough and kind explaining everything step by step. I started allergy shots in April of 2010 and dutifully went every week until my company switched insurance carriers and I had to switch allergists. TEAR!! Dr. Epstein is great, but I'd love to go back to Dr. Baum! read more

The reason I give this office three stars is because it is so inconvenient to get a prescription refilled by them. They literally won't call the pharmacy or fax the pharmacy orders for you when you need a refill. You have to call the pharmacy and get the pharmacy to call or fax the office with a prescription refill request. The reason they give for this is that the nurses are too busy to be calling the pharmacy. Then HIRE MORE NURSES because every other doctors office on the planet calls in prescriptions for their patients when they need a refill. When I told the pharmacy tech that the doctors office would not call or fax them to initiate the refill, she laughed and said "but that's their job. Of course they will." Jokes on me! They won't. Every time I need my eyedrops refilled it's this huge process of having my pharmacy request a refill by fax, it being ignored by the doctors office, me having to call the doctors office to get them to respond to the pharmacy, and then having to call the pharmacy back to ask them to resend the request because now the doctors office is alerted and ready to respond. Not to mention, I have to wait on hold every time I call the pharmacy because this is Los Angeles and pharmacies are incredibly busy. It should not take 3+ phone calls and several faxes to get a prescription refilled. It's just not that difficult and it's something the doctors office should take care of once you make the request. Aside from this huge inconvenience, I really like this office. Dr. Baum is incredibly sweet and knowledgeable and makes you feel well taken care of. They have created an alternative to allergy shots which are drops that you put under your tongue every night. It's super convenient and I can tell it's made a difference with my allergies. As far as medical care, I definitely recommend this office but the inconvenience of them not calling in prescriptions is almost enough to make me want to switch doctors. read more

Dr. Baum is such a wonderful doctor. I actually found her here on Yelp by searching the word "hives" because "hives" had me in a world of pain and I was desperate to get out. I had already been in the emergency room twice with head to toe hives, and if you haven't had them, basically you feel like you're on fire and you want to rub up against a tree like a bear to make the itching stop. Thank God I found Dr. Baum, she prescribed me the medications that ended my bout of hives and she even discovered that I have slight asthma. The best thing about Dr. Baum, aside from the fact that she's brilliant- she's incredibly kind and and lovely. She knew I was about to meltdown into an (itchy) heap and she was able to assure me that everything was going to get better. With my mom so far away it was nice to have someone dote on me in a maternal way. Best doctor EVER! read more

I went with my Dad a few weeks ago to try to figure out if I have food allergies. I didn't have insurance because I live out of the country, so I had to pay out of pocket, which was about 195 USD per person, per consult. Kind of steep, but so worth it. Dr. Baum was very kind and understanding when I explained the financial situation, and helped me pick some of the main things to test for on her list of potential allergenic substances. So, basically, I did the main food items (corn, soy, wheat, milk, eggs, etc), cat, dog, dust, and something else. My Dad, who I dragged to the appointment with me--I figured, same blood, same symptoms, same problems--sat through the light examination, but didnt go through the test. She told me outside the office to not even go there, if he didnt want to do it. So, OK. Even though my Dad was adamant that he didn't want to be tested, she still spoke to him, saying that based on my result, he could have the same thing. I found her to be patient, with a lovely bedside manner. Worth the money because now I have proof that I do, indeed, have some sort of reaction to wheat, and it also confirmed that I am allergic to cats and dust. Also, I found out that I react mildly to soy and dogs. Didnt know that. read more

I saw Dr. Baum today after my internist, Dr. Aliza Lifshitz, scheduled an appointment at Dr. Baum's office for me due to an allergy diagnosis from a dermatologist. Dr. Baum is a real gem -- she listened to me, looked things up because I can't use certain ingredients in creams -- and took excellent care of me. I left the office knowing that I have found an intelligent doctor who cares listens, and is willing to think out of the box. The dermatologist whom I saw last week did NOTHING to help me because he "didn't know" of any creams without the ingredients I must avoid --- and didn't bother to look anything up! Dr. Baum sent me home with two prescriptions and some samples of another item that are already helping my allergic rash. She is an excellent, caring doctor and I can't recommend her enough! Dr Maxine Baum is won of a dying breed of caring Doctors. In the past I saw Dr. R. Eitches and was perfectly happy but, he was always booked. I am lucky that my PPO covers Dr Baum she has treated me with respect and my allergies are so much better. She is relatively easy to book an appointment with the same week which is helpful, when you feel lousy! read more

Sometimes you don't realize what "good bedside manner" means until you find an MD who really has it. For me, Dr. Baum was just what I needed. She is very thorough, listens carefully, and has a sweet but professional demeanor. I went to see Dr. Baum after suffering from year round allergies (mostly hay-fever, brain fog symptoms), and she helped me with a plan of action for living with them. Since I had tried almost everything else, I ultimately chose the immunotherapy (allergy shots) route - which has helped immensely. Sherri, who administers the shots, is awesome and makes my visits fun. The office staff and nurses are all very helpful and friendly as well. Dr. Baum saw me yesterday as a new patient. Her office is impeccably clean, there is no perfume or allergens floating in the air (something I have found in other allergist's offices.. the amount of perfume in the air, air fresheners, etc., all of which cause me breathing problems) Her staff were all very professional, polite, kind and very good at their jobs. Dr. Baum is one of the most wonderful MDs I have met in all my years. She is kind, thoughtful, helpful and she listens to you. She takes her time and she performs a thorough evaluation on you. I was so very surprised in this day and age, that she was able to spend the much needed time with me that she did. She talked to me as an equal and a person. She explained everything and she wrote it out for me. She is absolutely wonderful. As an adult, it was easy for me to undergo testing, however so many children have allergies and it can be devastating on them to undergo testing, shots, etc. This office was full of happy children, albeit ones that had allergies :) The office is efficient, they run on time and they are the best. I am so happy that I have found Dr. Baum and I will gladly refer her to everyone I know or to anyone that asks me for a referral to an allergist. Having someone Like Dr. Baum and her staff there to help you makes you feel like you can live a normal life! You will love her. Also, if you are needing allergy testing, you have the BEST nurse there performing it! She is happy, smart, kind and so very quick! She makes this testing so very easy! Dr. Maxine Baum is one of those rare finds. In a big city like LA, with so many people, it is hard for busy practices to give such undivided attention to their patients. I have been a patient at this office for years, seeing both Dr Eitches and Dr Baum. Today I took my little boy. She showed true interest and gave us all of her attention. I didn't feel like we were a number and I didn't feel rushed. She was thorough, engaged, interested and sincere. We did not wait more than 5 minutes to be seen. It was very refreshing to see there are still doctors that are in it for the love of it, not to get insurance information and rush you through a visit. I have had chronic allergies for 20 years. Dr. Baum is the first to have been able to give me a program that really provided relief. My biggest challenge is inflamation which causes all kinds of trouble and her solutions really have worked. I have alot more good days now!! read more

Last week I went to see Dr. Baum at her office while I was on vacation. Everybody in the office was really kind to me and very helpful. They were eficient and got me in right away. I was terribly allergic to something I ate at a sea food restaurant. My throat started feel funny and my skin got all red. It turns out it was the lobster. She tested my and quickly figured out what caused my awful reaction. Now I know not to eat lobsters anymore and what to do if I get in trouble. What do ya' know!
