Dr. Epstein literally saved my life. I have been going to Dr. Epstein for about 20 tears for allergies. After a routine set of blood tests, he noticed something amiss. We did a consult and he said the gestalt of the tests and his examination suggested a serious medical problem. He sent me to specialists who identified my problem as cancer. Visited this doctor one time as a referral immunologist for my 2 year old a couple years ago. She had blood drawn for an allergy test at the lab and this doctor NEVER called back with results!! Finally after hassling him and the lab trying to get my daughter's test results he told me she was fine and not allergic to bees. He NEVER SENT MY DAUGHTER'S ALLERGY PANEL nor did they retrieve it from Quest Diagnostics to see what she was allergic to. To add insult to injury, the incompetence of the office staff and the lack of communication in this office, one staff member had the audacity after not being able to get my daughter's lab results to tell me that her horrendous blood draw test that was requested by this doctor was outdated now and only requested by this doctor due to my insurance plan at the time. read more

Our son broke out in hives a few months ago, and though they went away after one sad, scary day, we decided it would be best to see an allergist. His pediatrician referred us to Dr. Stuart Epstein, and we made several trips to this office over the last month to figure out our kid's whole allergy situation. I went in once alone for a consultation, then three times with our boy, for three different panels of common food allergens. The office was deep in Beverly Hills with expensive parking (I found street parking once, but otherwise caved and went with the valet, as I was either late or carrying a tiny person). The set-up was comfortable, with an ample waiting area and several patient rooms. I ended up seeing a lot of the place because my kid showed himself around while he was stripped down to his diaper and pricked with potential allergens. I had to keep him entertained for 20 minutes each time without touching his back--not an easy thing to do--and the staff was really understanding when he wanted to play with shit or wander into their space. (One complaint--the wifi kind of sucks, so pre-load your videos if you want to bribe your kid with Cocomelon.) The woman helping us even gave him an excellent toy (he of course ignored all the actual toys that were available), a beeping timer with lots of fun buttons. Dr. Epstein was wonderful, professional and personable with a calm, reassuring manner. He knew what he was talking about and quickly came up with an explanation for my son's hives based on the various clues I'd assembled (it was a little complicated because he got one hive before eating the food that probably led him to break out more thoroughly). His staff was great, too, super nice and helpful. Over the course of three sessions, my son was exposed to 72 different food allergens--24 at a time, in prepared panels that were easy to press onto his little back all at once--and we confirmed what Dr. Epstein suspected from the beginning, that my baby is allergic to tuna. He's also sensitive to a few other things, which Dr. Epstein said we could still feed him as long as we didn't over do it. He gave us detailed instructions and suggested a follow-up visit in a year, which we will definitely be making. It won't be the worst thing in the world if our kid ends up allergic to tuna, but we'll do what we can to help him get over it. Whatever happens, I feel like we're in good hands with Dr. Epstein. I was happy with the care we received and would recommend his office to anyone, adult or child, in need of an allergist. read more

A few months ago, my allergies to food intensified, as did the allergic reactions, bordering anaphylaxis. In addition, I desperately want the vaccine. I'm allergic to several medications. Being a chronic pain in my own a**, compounding all of this, I have an autoimmune disease and can't have adrenaline. I needed to find someone who could understand all of these issues and help me find solutions. I searched Google for, allergist autoimmune COVID vaccine. Dr. Epstein popped up first. I've been seeing Dr. Epstein for a few months. I need doctors to listen to me without judgement and answer all of my questions. I also LOVE transparency. If a doctor doesn't have an answer and tells me, my respect for him or her increases exponentially. Honesty in medicine matters to me. Dr. Epstein checks all of my boxes. He's smart, thorough, resourceful, and takes time to understand me, my situation. He presents options, roadblocks, and a pathway towards solutions. He's a great doctor. I encourage anyone with allergies and autoimmune diseases or concerns to see him. You won't regret it and you'll learn a lot about your body. His staff is AMAZING. I love Debbie. Dr Epstein was knowledgeable and informative. Like many doctors however, when he suggested a gluten free diet and I told him I've been on one for over 6 years, he didn't stop to listen. He instead discredited my knowledge and said, "Well, gluten is in many things, so try this and come back to me in a month." This review is long overdue.... and long. For most of my adult life... now in my 40s....I got sinus infections & upper respiratory infections about every 8-10 weeks, and often even more frequently than that. Basically half of my life I was sick or getting over being sick. Many of the times, despite all other efforts, I would only get well if put on an antibiotic. In recent years Dr. Vanessa Rotholtz was treating my constant infections. Luckily, she cared enough to notice that this pattern of sickness was excessive and baffling. She always helped me get well, but what was the underlying issue? We did allergy testing, scans, you name it. She suggested I see Dr. Stuart Epstein (who my brother has seen for years for asthma ha) for immunity testing. Long story short, after extensive blood tests, Dr. Epstein found that my body showed no signs of immunity towards a bacteria commonly found in... you guessed it....sinus infections, URI's, strep, even meningitis. My body also showed signs of high inflammation as if it was sick even when well. He also discovered food sensitivities that were not helping my situation. To wrap this up.... well, I am currently under the weather and out of the state or else I'd go in. But what is AMAZING, is that after getting the Pneumovax (sure hope I got that name right) which he administered last winter, it had almost been a year since I was sick last. That is unheard of in my world. No exaggeration...for AT LEAST 20 years, sick... constantly. I can't thank you enough Dr. Epstein and staff. Dr Epstein continues to be extraordinary and I sometimes get nervous that he may one day retire. A bit before Covid I was super sick - I assumed I had a sinus infection since I was well versed in those so I went to urgent care for antibiotics. They were awful and refused to treat me. After a few more days of feeling deathly, I went to Dr Epstein where lo and behold I had a sinus infection, so bad that he said if I'd waited longer I'd have been in the hospital. So he put me on strong antibiotics and a steroid. I ended up being the like 0.0001% of people who got a severe reaction to the antibiotic and woke up with the most excruciating leg pain. I called his office early Saturday morning crying, he called back immediately and knew exactly what was happening (tendinitis and chance my tendons could rupture) so immediately went off that drug. I was so grateful for his expediency and being so knowledgeable (my ER doctor mom was jealous she didn't see me bc this is so rare she'd only heard about it). NOT ONLY THAT but he personally called me the next day to check in and a few days after that. As if he hasn't done enough. Last year I had an inexplicable patch of eczema pop up that wouldn't go away. I went to Dr Epstein and he told me to go to the pharmacy across the street because he devised a personal compound cream that they put together. Five days later, it's gone. I'm good to go! read more

BEWARE. This office took both me and my best friend for a ride and they'll do it to you too. I picked this office because I was looking for an allergy doctor close to my home. I went in for an initial appointment and everyone was perfectly nice and happy to welcome my business into their office. I walked away thinking to myself, "Geez, what nice people!" A few allergy tests were conducted-- none of which were explained to me or conducted with my explicit consent. Wham, bam, thank you ma'am style. Fast forward. I return from an extended stay out of the country to find FOURTEEN angry, rude and abrasive voicemail messages saying that I owe Dr. Epstein $1,200. TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS. When I spoke with the aggressive woman who runs the show over there, I explained to her that that seemed preposterous and that we would have to figure out a way to amicably resolve the matter. Fast forward again. I am sitting at my desk at my office at work. I get a phone call from my boss's executive assistant saying that there is a lady on the line looking for me. She hadn't provided her name but sounded angry. This struck me as very odd since I NEVER provide my work number to anyone (not even family). He put the call through and, lo and behold, it was the angry woman from Dr. Epstein's office. This woman had the audacity to look up my employer and hunt me down in my place of work at 8 AM on a Monday morning. WOW. Talk about a severe violation of privacy. I simply could not believe the gall. On two occasions, I tried to work out a deal with Epstein's office and resolve the matter amicably. They wouldn't budge and at last, sent me over to a collections agency. She said to me, in a very threatening tone, "I'm just gonna have Dr. Epstein's guy handle you" -- as if she was going to have the mafia take a hit out on me. Not only was this office dishonest and money-hungry, but the lady who does all the "money-collecting" is down right rude. I cannot in good faith recommend this office to anyone seeking treatment for their allergies. read more

Stuart Epstein is, hands down, the best allergist west of the Mississippi. He is the allergist other physicians call when they have a particularly difficult case in which the treatment has been unsuccessful. How do I know this? No, I'm not a physician myself, I was his patient, and I've been sitting in his office when he has had to take those incoming calls during our physician-patient protocol discussion. Yes, that's right. He actually brings his patients in his office to discuss various treatments and lifestyle changes, which he has found beneficial. I've also come to Dr. Epstein for upper respiratory tract infections, and I've had a level of success with his treatments like never before. Simply put, he is completely committed to his patient's health and well-being, and his results reflect this. He's a voracious reader and keeps up to date in the literature and case studies in his area of expertise. Dr. Epstein is also an Associate Clinical Professor at the David Geffen UCLA School of Medicine and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Attending Allergist. He also advocated for the removal of peanuts and peanut products in the airline industry, to help protect those travelers with this severe and life-threatening allergy. His assistant Deb is beyond extraordinary. She is efficient, orderly, professional and yet also very nurturing. I've sent a number of my friends to Dr. Epstein, and all have been very grateful for the recommendation. Although I've since moved from LA to the SF Bay Area, if I should ever need further treatment for my allergies or persistent upper respiratory tract infections, I will fly to LA to see Dr. Epstein. I was very excited to see Dr. Epstein after the glowing reviews on yelp, but after three visits, I'll be seeking another allergist. The wait times for the office are out of control. My first visit I waited over an hour after my appointment time to be brought back, the second and third were both 30-40 minute waits. I can't imagine committing to something like bi-weekly allergy shots in an office that disrespectful of my time. Dr. Epstein is certainly knowledgeable. He recommended some dietary changes based on my initial test results that have made a huge difference in the frequency and severity of my allergic reactions. However when I came back at his insistence for "nutritional counseling" regarding the specifics of his recommended diet, his recommendations were nothing I hadn't already found on the internet and started on my own weeks before. At first, I was excited when he recommended a local allergen-free bakery, but then when he left our short session to check on another patient I looked up their website and they bake using a flour I am clearly allergic to. Honestly this counseling appointment felt like an excuse to charge my insurance for another consultation, and like Dr. Epstein was just giving me his boilerplate program--not one that took my specific needs into account. I have to emphasize that the changes in diet I made on my own based on Dr. Epstein's initial test results have definitely yielded positive results and I am very grateful for that. However, in my opinion a good allergist needs to be collaborative with their patients and willing to spend time to answer their concerns and tailor a program to the patient's specific needs. They also need to have an office that runs like a well-oiled machine, since allergy shots can necessitate multiple visits a week for months. Unfortunately, neither of these was the case with Dr. Epstein's office in my experience. read more

This Doc sure knows his stuff. His office is casual and fun, but they get the job done. Within the first minutes of me telling Dr. Epstein about my now 7-year chronic cough (for which I've seen so many doctors, lung specialists, etc. I can't even remember anymore), he knew what it was. He gave me a breathing treatment to try out, and within 25 minutes, it improved my breathing rate and lessened my cough by 13%. Dead on, brilliance! Dr. Epstein and his staff also have excellent bedside manner - always laughing and making all their patients feel welcome and at home. I wish all doctors were this capable and friendly! Dr. Epstein had a thorough consultation with me prior to the first skin tests, asking about lifestyle, stress-producing events, diet, etc. He made connections to my allergy outbreaks to stressful events in my life, which I didn't even realize myself. I had never been tested for allergies before so didn't know what to expect, but was really happy with my experience. It was actually kind of fun learning about my allergies, because everyone in the office has such a great attitude and personality. I felt comfortable immedately and don't dread my next appointment. Parking is tough - meters are scarce, unless you book the 7:30 am slot; the lot (enter on Linden) was pretty standard (cost me $7 for an hour visit) - but it is cash only, so be prepared. read more

In my book Dr. Epstein is the best thing since sliced bread. I have been a patient for more than a decade and I have nothing but excellent things to say about him and his staff. I have always been able to be squeezed in for an appointment within 24 hours of a call if not the same day. His office staff, office manage Joi is always on top of the situation and Nurse Debbie is nothing but a sheer delight. I would give Dr. Epstein 5 stars out of 5. FINALLY. For the first time in this over-crowded, yet somehow sprawled out city, I have found a doctor who LISTENS. My own father is a physician back in the midwest - to have a doctor sit down and care about you is not uncommon - it's standard. Everyone expects that, and on the whole GETS that. No wonder people from the left coast hate doctors and hospitals - they all suck out here (if you're not Cedars-Sinai). Except for this wonderful doc. He's a breath of fresh air. I've had a sinus infection for 2 years that has kept me fatigued and is ruining my daily life - he is the first doc out of 8-10 out here who follows through with tests, calls you back, whose receptionists are COMPETENT (good god folks.....try to find a good doc whose receptionists are as smart as you.....seriously, give it a whirl), and is genuinely interested in helping you. Even my middle-of-the-road insurance was a breeze! I can't imagine how difficult it must be to be a doc out here, not to mention the middle finger in the rear that is Obamacare staring down their doorsteps. Dr. Epstein is one of the best doctors I've ever seen. I was referred to him by another great doctor, immunologist Dr. Swamy Venuturupalli. I had suffered with chronic bronchitis for years with death defying fits of coughing during which I couldn't breathe. Various primary physicians just gave me antibiotics and cough syrup with codeine and said they were sure I had allergies. I didn't but I began to get pneumonia. A great pulmonologist who sent me to Dr. V. prescribed monthly infusions of gamunex and sent me to Dr. Epstein. Dr. Epstein is a superior doctor an has kept me well ever since. He is brilliant, more thorough than anyone I've ever known. When Covid entered our world I feared I would die but Dr. Epstein made sure I didn't. I owe him my life. read more

I was suuuuuuper bummed about having to leave Dr. Maxine Baum when my company switched insurance carriers, but Dr. Epstein has proven to be a caring, capable allergist and his staff is awesome! After I told him my history, he made some interesting suggestions I'd never considered and also insisted on an Epi-Pen (something I was urged to get, but never bothered) and explained my allergies in detail, even how they're affected by other conditions, and most importantly how to live a more comfortable life. The staff is great too. Super friendly, and you get a live person when you call the main office (such a novelty these days!). Shot hours aren't as good as Dr. Baum, but they're open early so I shouldn't complain (I'm just lazy!). Parking is meters, but I'm not sure about a lot or if they validate. read more

I had to write a review about this doctor. He is hands down great. I have been seeing him for a few months now and am feeling much better. He helped me a lot. I can't believe what was said about his staff. They are the best office I have ever been to. I owed some money and fell on hard times and wasn't able to make any payments towards my balance. They were so nice and understanding and arranged for me to make payments every month. I was able to afford the payment plan they set up with me. Unlike most offices who always want you to agree to pay an amount you know that you won't be able to afford. They are so willing to work with you and explain anything that you ask them. When I started with this doctor I had a lot of paper work to complete for my appointment, to much paperwork but it was very thorough. It explained what I was to expect to have done and how much everything would cost. I am sure they give the same paperwork to all of their patients. It upset me to see what this lady by the name of B---- said about the person who handles his accounts. I have never met anyone so willing to work with you. I don't believe a word that this B----person said. You know you can't always believe what you read when someone is not happy. Maybe she just didn't want to pay her bill. It wouldn't be the first time someone lied to get out of paying for something. Anyway, he and his staff are the best I have seen in a long time. You should go to him if you need help. Attempting allergy treatment with Dr. Epstein was by far the worst medical experience of my entire life. Before coming here, I read the mixed reviews. There are a lot of five-star reviews, and a lot of really really unhappy ones. The positive ones seemed more valid to me, and I honestly felt more in-line with the happy ones during my first appointment with him. He seemed confident that he could help me, and on first-impression, he seemed genuine and caring. But after my 15 minutes in his office, I was ushered into a room for allergy testing. Weird... It was something he hadn't mentioned me needing because my outdoor/indoor and food allergy testing was done elsewhere just a few months before. When I mentioned it to the nurse who came in, she seemed offended and made me wait 30 minutes more to speak with him again. Then he confirmed that indeed I didn't need general allergy testing and the penicillin and chemical testing had to be scheduled a few days in advance. So I made an appointment to come back, leaving basically empty-handed after nearly two hours and a two-month wait for that appointment. After a few appointments, I noticed a trend of just general disrespect and lack of care for patients. You sit there, waiting, at least 30 minutes past your appointment time while the valet parking cost just goes up and up. Then, you're ushered into a room, assembly-line style, and expensive not-always-necessary allergy testing is almost forced upon you with little explanation. I've had allergy testing done before. I knew I had a ton of allergies. I was more looking for treatment, just some sort of help in managing the hives and breathing issues, rather than adding to my list of things to avoid. Many appointments later and hundreds of dollars spent (post-insurance), he decided to enroll me in an experimental drug program. I finished the paperwork day-of, and more than a month later, the front office hadn't submitted it to the company. Two months later, and at this point nearly four months after my initial appointment, I was approved just in time for my health insurance deductible to start over (something I'd mentioned at my very first appointment as a key thing in me being able to attempt treatment). But the two biggest things that made me never want to come back here? 1. The medical student in me thought to ask about my lab work that was done for the experimental drug trial. My numbers didn't even qualify... 2. When Dr. Epstein told me about my chemical allergies, I asked how I was supposed to avoid a chemical found in the glue of rubber and leather flip flops. He told me to "Google non rubber flip flops" and almost laughed as he went onto the next item in my exhaustive list of chemical allergies. Paper after paper of printed info sheets were shoved in my face for each chemical allergy. I left in TEARS, feeling more lost and overwhelmed than ever, and the valet guy even asked if I was okay when I walked out. The best part? They never even followed up on the fact that I never came back to start that experimental drug treatment. Clearly, they'd gotten enough money out of me already. Avoid, avoid, avoid. read more

It took a couple of months and two cancellations by this doctor's office before I could actually get my son in to see him. On the day of the appointment we showed up 15 minutes early and still had to wait more than an hour. It was evident everyone who came in the office had to wait too. When the doctor finally saw my son -- an hour and fifteen minutes later-- he made some lame excuse that he was reading some results and that's why we had to wait. He was polite and asked us a list of standard questions. We briefly talked about my concerns in his office. I told him I reviewed the paperwork the office sent me prior to the appointment and my husband and I followed all the directions -- no Claritin for a week before the visit (we actually skipped it for nearly a month), no vitamins, etc.. When his assistant gave him the initial test for antihistamines, it came back positive. A second test revealed the same. Now, I have no idea why this happened because we didn't give him any meds but the physicians assistant started making accusations that my husband must have given Claritin behind my back or gave him vitamins without telling me. Then she suggested he put hydrocortisone on him. I said "now why would he do that?" Her attitude was so completely unprofessional and rude. I'm not in the business of wasting anyone's time, especially my own. The doctor overheard what was happening in the exam room and came in and tried to smooth things over by saying it's not common but sometimes you can test positive in a situation like ours. He suggested we return in a few weeks. We left after more than three hours. No one ever called to follow up with us and I didn't bother with another appointment. There are plenty of good allergists in town. I would recommend another office. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Stuart Epstein for more than 2 decades. I first learned of him when L.A. Magazine wrote an article about "Who Do Doctors Go To When They Need A _______ (Fill in the blank)." The article reported that doctors go to Dr. Epstein if they need help with allergy-related illnesses. I remember the article as if it came out yesterday. As the son of two school teachers I had been going to Kaiser Hospital since I was a child (using my parents health insurance). I had very little success with them regarding my allergies. When I later came of age, I searched out my own insurance and doctors. I tested with various allergists and received no better results with them. Then I read the aforementioned magazine article and finally found the results I needed. I had lived with the sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes and throat for 30 years. It wasn't until I became a patient of Stuart Epstein that I could finally learn to live like a "normal person." The sinus headaches were gone, I learned to sleep better and I even purchased pets to live in my home. Dr. Stuart Epstein, with his assistants, Debbie & Joy, have all the answers to your questions. I was a patient of Dr Epstein's ten years ago. I LOVE him. I learned things then that have changed my life and have led to a much healthier me. I was taken aback when after we discussed the very specific reason that I came to him he asked me "what else is going on with you?" That was the first and only time I've ever had a doctor attempt to delve into my overall health. So I mentioned other things that had been chronic. Things that other doctors gave me no hope of understanding. Dr Epstein changed all of that. He gave me answers, solutions, hope. I hate to read the complaints on this page. I just had my first visit with Dr. Epstein and he is the best!! Finally after months of appointments he discovered what I am allergic to and gave me immediate solutions! He's extremely smart and he actually listened to me. He talks fast but at least he's nice and knows what he's saying! I highly recommend him to anyone and everyone, no matter your issue. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Epstein's over 20 years ago for allergies and he is terrific. Recently, I was diagnosed with deficient immunoglobulin condition and he is treating me for this condition. I was very scared and confused, but Dr. Epstein and his staff have been so patient and helpful. dr. epstein is an allergist, and much more. it is difficult to find a doctor, who is not only an expert in his field of medicine, but sympathetic and caring with sincere concern for the patient. the support staff that from looking on appears to be in constant motion,while the phones are ringing off the hook..... behind the scenes... is an organized office, spear headed by debbie, office manager, that makes sure the patient is comfortable and walks away feeling better ...physically and emotionally. it may be hard to make an appointment to see the doctor , as he is fully booked much of the time. he will make sufficient room for emergency cases and if you must wait....., it is well worth it. read more

This gentleman has limited office hours. My wife has been unable to refill an important prescription. The pharmacy started calling the Doctor's office on Tuesday and by today, Friday, no one has responded. We will now enjoy the long weekend wondering whether she will become extremely ill. This is actually the second time this has happened, so we have reached our limit with Dr. Epstein. I do not believe any amount of skill or experience as a doctor can make up for a lack of basic competence or caring. Good luck if you decide to use him. read more

Just ok. Seems more concerned with his Hollywood reputation than helping determine what has been causing our young son's severe hives. Yes, we did the basic scratch tests - twice. Told him our son's history, his office refused to do an Alcat panel, though we requested one. Said we had to go through all the basic steps... again. Still no results, son still having severe hives. Epstein shrugs and keeps taking our money. I saw him myself several years ago, had the same experience. Not impressed. If you're looking for a pediatric allergist, you can probably do better. read more
